Got my new special K bars in the mail had 3 flavors the cinnamon was great! Tastes like pop tarts .100 calories per package their 2 per package so if I want 1 more 1/2 is 50 calories put the other one in a Tupperware. 18 packages with 2 bars in each. Ordered more Walden Chipotle salad dressing.

Heather thank you for your kind thoughts. The updates today have not been encouraging.

Next up finding a place to live.
I made these afghans while taking care of her for 3 mos in VA after ankle surgery (March to June)!
Our Planet Fitness had an overhaul and upgrade. Enjoyed the stairclimber and seated elliptical today! Have some new weight machines also! Feels good to be back at the gym.
Really hot in these parts. Feel real temps over 100 degrees. Thank goodness for air conditioning!

Well lovely day ,didnt get to the beach but did go to an early dinner.. which was nice and got some stuff done here..had some chamomile tea to help.me sleep..
Lisa - yes when you have any surgery like that always ask the orthopedist if you will need a pre med.. usually 4 pills 1 hr prior to your appointment. If your allergic to sulfa then its clindamycin, if not amoxicillin..
Well cant wait to drift off to sleep to the sound of the ocean ..5 -
Carol in GA – I think you guys look terrific! Don’t worry about your arms!
Machka -love the post about goals! So true.
Oh anet OKCJ that is so sad about your sister. Hope they can figure out the issue.
Lisa in AR – too bad they didn’t tell you that about antibiotics. I think it is almost a doctor by doctor thing now. My Orthopedic surgeon does not follow that protocol (and dentist lets him make the call).
[bKatia ][/b]– hope they do something for your husband soon. Chronic pain is horrible.
Cheri – congrats on daughter’s job. The afghans are gorgeous.
Our children’s community event went very well today. Got there about 9:15 and got home at 6 pm. Got a bit overheated a couple of times, but was able to cool down for the most part. Kept drinking water so I think hydration level is ok (well, now it is). My main task was to give out shoes to families. We had a large number donated to us so I had them bring down 6 extremely large tubs. Mainly had just some women’s shoes left, less than one tub, so that was very successful. And the kids loved the activities (face painting very popular), bouncie houses, carriage rides, dancing. Served 1,000 hot dogs and who knows how much pop (soda) and water.
Came home and watered front yard while having dinner and cooling off. Had packed food to take with me, keeping in mind the heat, so light stuff. Knew with the walking and hauling I would have extra calories for the day. Since MFP and Fitbit didn’t want to sync, I stayed away from extra food (which given how hot I got was a wise decision). So tonight I had to eat to get enough calories in.
Dragging myself off to bed and watch some football. Feeling tired but satisfied with the day’s efforts.

Y’all, you have to try this if you love mint-chocolate chip ice cream.
I used a Ninja mini-chopper but you could use a food processor or blender.
1 banana, sliced and frozen
2 tbsp canned coconut milk
1 tbsp cacoa nibs
Mint (leaves, or flavoring, or food-grade essential oil) just a tad for flavoring
Blend together until ice cream consistency
Eat immediately
Double for two servings
Less than 150 calories of pure deliciousness!

Good eve all. Finally done skimming July posts & determined to say hello before Sept. To me that is beginning of Fall,no matter how long summer holds on.
DD returns to work at school this coming wk.
My Sis from Minn joined the family vacation..... 10 of us,all ages ....had a wonderful time in Pigeon Forge,Tn for 10 days.
Love the Smoky Mtn area.
A couple mos ago,got a nasty haircut......was back in car in exactly 11 minutes. Sis (retired hair dresser) took one look & we bought scissors so she could trim the mess. Said this is one of the worst haircuts she’d ever seen & spent well over an hr snipping .Did a great job.
Doing therapy now for bursitis in one hip.Dr said it was aggravated by getting in/out of a tall vehicle rented for Tn. My own fault,....DH had a truck I refused to ride in. Same problem, comes from being short.
Happy August & good health to all.

Oh - and come to find out that my dentist visit had to be cancelled because, once you've had a joint replaced, you're supposed to be on prophylactic antibiotics ordered by your surgeon. No one mentioned this... until I got there. So, after all the fuss last week, I'll be on a course of antibiotics this week and try again with the dentist next Friday. *sigh* Life is weird, and irony is not my friend.
Love y'all,
Lisa in AR
I also have to be on prophylactic antibiotics before dental appointments because I had rheumatic fever as a child which resulted in a heart murmur. Some dentists don't bother, but most do. So last week, when I was feeling quite awful, my mouth was infected but I was pretty sure I was generally battling an infection. I could have gone to my Dr and asked for antibiotics with about a 50/50 chance of getting some, but I knew I could go to my dentist and they would prescribe some. They did and I'm feeling much better.

Did Jillian Michaels Killer Buns and Thighs DVD. The plan for tomorrow is to ride the recumbent bike
Barbie – thanks for posting that pic of SW and the dwarfs. Those are the same as my molds! From what I understand (and this makes sense) TECHNICALLY these are illegal molds. Disney SUPPOSEDLY doesn’t allow them. But it’s nice to see how SW looks among them
Don’t really know what to do: Jess was talking to one of the neighbors and she invited them today. Jess said that they’d come, but I have a feeling that they won’t. I wanted to invite either the entire neighborhood or just the people on our street. These people don’t live on our street. One of the ladies was the person I spoke to asking if she’d help me and she said that she just wanted to enjoy herself. I honestly thought she’d at least for the first time help me out. According to Jess she said we’ve invited selective people before, which we never did. I suspect things got misinterpreted. I never said anything to another lady she spoke to and invited because she doesn’t live on our street. She’s a really sweet person, but I didn’t want her to feel like she was invited as an afterthought. I feel I really should at least tell her (the sweet neighbor) the reason I didn’t say anything was that we just invited the people on our street. I guess when I see her out walking or something I’ll say something to her. Vince is quite upset
Katla – (((HUGS)))
Well, as I expected, not one person came. To me, this says that we invite the entire neighborhood, it’s really questionable how many will come. Probably not many. But Colby came down and the four of us had a good time in the pool and spa, so there was a silver lining. It’s interesting, one of the sons next door was out playing soccer while we were in the pool, but never came over.
Rebecca – I never thought to add a liqueur to canned frosting. Vince absolutely loves amaretto, maybe I’ll try adding it to the frosting next time. Interesting…..
Tracey – I’d love some of Rebecca’s budgeting skills, too. So you can’t have them all…..lol
Cheri – how wonderful for your daughter and you!
Katie – that recipe for the mint chocolate chip “ice cream” sounds delish….but can I use almond milk instead of coconut? Jess is so allergic to coconut that I don’t want it in the house. I’m thinking that you can probably use mint extract in place of the mint leaves. How many calories are in the cacao nibs? I remember at one time using dutch chocolate and banana to make chocolate “ice cream”. Just never thought of adding mint.

Machka's Exercise Tips ... this is just how I fit it into my day YMMV.
I work full time at a desk job and attend university part time getting my Master's degree.
I walk as part of my commute.
I take the stairs and I often climb extra stairs throughout the day when I get up to stretch and get another coffee.
I walk at lunch.
My husband and I often walk, cycle or exercise indoors after work.
We also do the same on weekends.
I also walk to get places ... I rarely drive. So I walk between the university and work. I walk to the bus, and around here, sometimes that can be a couple km. I walk to the shops, to medical appointments, to run errands, etc.
And in the evenings, I'm up and doing housework things quite often during commercial breaks.
My project in my current course is to create something based on the theme "Get Moving At Work". The first step (submitted on Friday) was a sketch and a 1500 word description of the something along with research about other similar somethings and why something is needed, etc.
The research was really interesting. There isn't a lot of research about the harmful effects of extended sitting, but what research there is is quite revealing ... sitting for long periods of time is harmful!
I developed DVT in 2009 and I've got a genetic predisposition toward developing blood clots so my doctors have warned me against sitting for long periods of time. I'm to get up at least once an hour, preferably even once every 30 minutes.
Turns out ... that's good advice for everyone. Even just standing up for a few minutes every 30 minutes is beneficial.

Heather: Yes, DH and I did take a cruise last year in celebration of our 30th anniversary+my retirement+my birthday. Loved it, but can't afford to take another one for awhile. This year, budget is going into the bathroom renovation, which starts this Monday.
Katla: I feel for DH. Chronic back pain is the pits.
Janetr: Prayers going up for your sister. Can't believe how many folks connected to this thread suffered bad ankle injuries this year. I'm so grateful both of mine healed with minimal medical intervention. I don't recognize the woman in that 'before' picture. What an transformation! Bravo!!!
Re neighbors: I've lived in this condo community on and off for 16 years. I know the names of people's dogs, and everyone knows my cat, Mars. When folks see me or DH, they just know us as the cat walkers. Have to laugh.
My DB feels tremendously improved today. He felt the Reiki energy healer was very good for him, and he is open to getting another treatment from her soon. He and I went to Costco today, which was his first time out of the house since Tuesday evening. I have two friends lined up who have volunteered to take him to AA meetings if he is willing. Treading carefully here, as it has to be his decision.
The Rolling Stones are playing in Denver tonight, so we had our own little RS festival here binge watching back to back concerts on Netflix.
Stay well friends. We can do this.

Machka - I read an article or something not long ago that states that sitting is worse than smoking.
Rori - I hope your brother accepts the help being offered. Your Rolling Stones concert reminds me of my brother. He has lots and lots of DVD’s of different bands concerts and documentaries. He visited here a few years ago and the only thing he bought himself were 2 new DVD’s.
Well I’m off to bed soon, helped my friend for 5 hours today setting up for her yard sale next weekend, still lots to go so I’ll probably help tomorrow some too.

From one of the articles I read for the assignment ...
"The link between excessive sitting time and adverse health outcomes, including CVD, type 2
diabetes and premature mortality, has been well recognised even after accounting for the influence of
moderate to vigorous physical activity [8,9]. Persons who sit 8 to 11 hours per day have an estimated
15% increased risk of death over the next three years compared to those who sit less than 4 hours per
day [10]. Too much sitting has become a key public health concern [11], since sedentary behaviour
occupies more than half of adults’ waking hours [12]. In office workers, workplace sitting is the
single biggest contributor to daily sitting time [13]. Further, as office-based workers constitute the
largest occupational sector and the proportion of industrial work that involves sedentary activity is
increasing [14], the office workplace has been identified as a key setting in which to reduce prolonged
sitting time [15].
In contrast to the detrimental effects of prolonged sitting, large scale prospective observational
studies have reported that time spent standing is linked to a reduction in all-cause mortality risk in a
dose-response manner [16,17]. Furthermore, analyses using isotemporal substitution modelling have
shown that replacing sitting time with equal amounts of standing is linked to substantial mortality risk
reduction in Australian adults [18]."
Gao, L, Nguyen, P, Dunstan, D & Moodie, M 2019, ‘Are Office-Based Workplace Interventions Designed to Reduce Sitting Time Cost-Effective Primary Prevention Measures for Cardiovascular Disease? A Systematic Review and Modelled Economic Evaluation’, International Journal Of Environmental Research And Public Health, vol. 16, no. 5, viewed 4 August 2019, <http://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&db=mdc&AN=30866495&site=eds-live>.
That was even a bit startling to me, and I knew that sitting wasn't good.

Morning, afternoon and evening, all...
Carol - what a terrific picture! None of you look like you're 71, not to me anyway. I don't think anyone on this site looks their age in the pics I see, though.
In my happy place, rattling on the computer, washer going, kitchen clean, Egg (the cat) on my lap purring (which won't last long unless I stop typing).
Pat in OH - good to see you posting!
Mia - hope your kitty made it home... thinking about you.
If my husband sleeps in, I may head for the gym, do my aerobics at 7 a.m., and then come back and mow. He's canning pickles and more salsa today... so I said I'd mow. He works in an un-airconditioned shop all day every weekday. He could use two days in a row of staying inside where it's cool.
Love y'all,

After getting my knitting mojo back now find I can't do it for too long as right hand hurts. It's the way I hold the needles I think. Presume it's arthritis in thumb joint. Really annoying as it keeps my hands busy when sitting. Last week was really painful and I used Voltarol and took paracetamol. Any advice welcome. BTW I already take cod liver oil every day.
Not doing too well on eating front as I'm also stressed as airline pilots have voted to strike when we are due to fly to Spain and the weather is awful
Kate (not too happy) UK6 -
Almost caught up yeay! Having to dash to the shop for my mum, I'll try and get back later this aftrnoon.

cheri your blankets for project Linus are so delicate and lovely.
Well we had a lovely drive from our little neck of the woods to the Poconos mountains. Had a simply gorgeous day, drive, hike and late lunch out. DH and I tried to envision retiring out there and concluded the snow would be too much for us—also seemed a little remote for year round living with intense tourist traffic in high season. Another place to check off the list of possibilities but that’s a good thing yes?! Retiring in 2-4 years from now so of course we’re already thinking, dreaming and planning and then of course life will do what it’s gonna do.

Just reread my post and giving myself a lecture 'stop moaning, be grateful for family and friends, many are having much worse times' Hugs for all my friends on this thread. Will go out with DH this afternoon, meet some friends and have a couple of wines, listen to some Karaoke. I love music, can't sing but will singalong.
Have a lovely Sunday

Sunday -- nice lie in this morning. I slept a long time, but woke a little bit earlier than I thought I would and just lay there for a while dozing and stretching a bit. That's a luxury I don't often get.
Since I've got no pressing assignments this weekend, I've been catching up on stuff, ticking things off the list. I've put away all my laundry, tidied up the bedroom and sprinkled the bed with lavender oil, and importantly, I've tied my dining room table (aka desk) area. I've got my uni stuff sorted so that I'm already to get going on the next assignment. I sewed a hole in a pocket in my winter coat and washed its collars. Just a bunch of those little things that seem to pile up.
And I've included exercise, of course. Cycling inside yesterday as I posted, and I spent an hour on the treadmill today walking with a bit of running. My physio has told me I can include a little bit of running, so I walk for 5 or 6 minutes, run for 1 minute, walk for several minutes, run for 2 minutes, walk for several more minutes, run for 1 minute, and so on. Right toward the end I ran for a full 3 minutes!! But I'm not to overdo it. I'm to ease into the running.
My husband and I also walked to the shop today to pick up a few groceries in between rain showers. It was good to get outside and get a little bit of fresh air.
Then this evening, I decided to make Lava Cake. I've made it before some time ago ... 2017, I think, and have been wanting to make it again because it's so quick and easy and absolutely delicious!! So I did and it was as I remember ... quick and easy and absolutely delicious. OK, it's probably not the best thing for losing weight, but there's not a lot of it and I only make it occasionally.

Allie - happy to see you in your happy place, and at peace.
Kate - love the pics! As far as the arthritis goes, paracetamol may not work, as it's a pain reliever and fever reducer, not an anti-inflammatory, and arthritis pain is almost purely due to inflammation of the joints. I'm dealing with it myself, and our version of paracetamol, Tylenol, has been pretty well useless for me.
The NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) work well for arthritis pain, but I'm dealing with a few side effects from those. All NSAIDs other than aspirin can also increase your chance of having high blood pressure, heart attack or stroke, however, so if you have heart issues, talk to your doctor first. They include ibuprofen, naproxen, and diclofenac. Your brand names vary from ours of course, but the medicine names should be the same.
Off to accomplish something. Corey's still not up, and all the laundry's done. Don't want to be too noisy, as I'm hoping he can sleep in...

Thanks Lisa I used to take diclofenac years ago for osteoarthritis in my knee but it did push my BP up. I can cope with pain as long as I stop knitting as soon as it starts and rest it for a couple of days.

Hi all,
Bea slept for 13 hours in her own bed at home and woke up with her eye all better! They brought her round to us as they wanted to try out their new bikes and their new equipment. DDIL hasn't used clip shoes before, but got used to them after a bit. They cycled up to a local beauty spot on the South Downs, chalk hills that are a National Park.
I had a lightbulb moment this morning and decided to make pancakes (crêpes) for breakfast. Melted some chocolate, found some strawberries and huge fun was had by all! Max helped me weigh and measure.
I was happy when the parents came over just before lunch for coffee and to take them home. I'd had enough of playing 'veterinary surgeons' by then!
Now relaxing after a mammoth tidy up. I will do some rowing this afternoon as I didn't get my usual session in this morning. I feel knackered!
Next time we have them all is Friday, so DDIL can prepare for the holiday. They are swopping houses, so there is a lot of prep to be done.
Much love from a tired, but happy, Heather UK xxxxxxx4
