Kim - Happy Birthday as well!! Glad it was a good visit with your mom
Terri - I too make out my shopping list according to the layout of the store. Heaven forbid I get distracted and miss an aisle, lol. I even mark through the items on the list as I put them in the shopping basket, and circle the ones where the item was out of stock to put in the new list I create when I get home. Creatures of habit, lol. your garden sounds great, by the way. That U3A group sounds very interesting!!
Heather - I enjoyed reading your spending plan. So true about spending money on what you enjoy now - like your meals. Since we don't spend much money or travel or entertainment or clothing - I have loosened up on buying better quality food items as well.
It dawned on me the reason I gardened for so many years was to save money and have fresh good quality organic food just a few steps away. Things have changed - I no longer can, the deer and rabbits have become such a problem here that I can't depend on the garden to thrive. DH no longer eats fruits and vegetables like he used to. Other than tomatoes and a kale plant and some storage onions, I'm happy to turn over the garden area to snapdragons and other flowers.
I found a new source for veggies - a gal has a "farm cart" on Saturday mornings in a little town nearby only 8 minutes away down a country road. I went there last Saturday and loaded up on lots of fresh organic produce. That's going to become a regular stop for me.
Make it a great week, ladies!

Happy Birthday Kim xoxo1

My mom came to visit on Thursday for my birthday and ended up staying till today as there was a plumbing problem at her house and no water for 24 hours. An extra day of company, actually it was fine, sometimes she is a pain and sometimes not, this was a good visit. Yeah!!! I tried hard to make good – or at least ok choices food wise while she was here and had some good and some not so good moments. I’ll get on the scale in a couple of days and see how things are. I find it easier to do food when I am in my routine.

Backs better Hubby took JR with him to the grocery store so I could get a rare break (fell asleep) y shower. No exercise yesterday was busy day. Watched 90 day fiancé as a couple. We went outside as a family to play soccer ⚽️ with JR. Viva la Futball! Jajaja.
Shopping 🛒- A list sits in the kitchen I add as I go try to remember to add it. I research new items to add to try or switch to. Then either I go with hubby to shop or what usually happens he goes alone I hope he gets what I wrote .I hop on Walmart.com when needed too like for my salad dressing to vitamins. Then after we get our veggies, meats, fruit,y more I decide what to cook every day per person depending on their diet .None of ours match fully so a lot of tweaking. JR -high caloric intake 2yr old with rapid growth spurts he’s hyper y a extremely picky eater (he’s next level even organizes his cups to food on his plate picky). Hubby- Special Health Diet needs 1200-2000cal hard job Construction in the heat plus a 2yr old low metabolism.
Me- Special Health Diet 1000-1300calories 2yr old wrangler lol 😂 no longer high metabolism it’s low functioning now peri menopause building muscles back from surgeries. Diet for me is 4oz meat,Veggies lots, fruit occasionally, tea 4-8oz a day to Gatorade zero, water 💦 lots, low calorie ice cream to baked chips to snack on. Brunch,Dinner,y late evening snack or meal depending on calories left.If calories don’t get used or go over I try better tomorrow. Walking indoors. Cousin dieting same time so if got a question can ask each other to suggest new items y talk about the crazy folks in the news. Only me y JR have an app to monitor calories (JR only as needed).
JR yes electronics the IPad I programmed it to only have educational boy apps. So when he’s on it he’s learning. TV got educational programs on I occasionally get something for me . A lot of soccer ⚽️ to books 📚 y studying. Non-stop activities until I drop lol 😂 even at nap time he takes forever to wind down.
Trying to cook 👩🍳 everything (except JRs pizza he only likes PapaJohns) .Hubby y me trying to buy healthier options y teaching each other what we’re learning. JR learning to climb more to head standing so if I don’t comment lol I’m just busy wrangling
Weights yo-yo from 162-164 in a pattern so waiting for it to go down stay there.

Katbid: Welcome! Best advice I can offer-- Let MFP set your calorie goals and stick with it. As you lose weight they will reduce allowed calories. Sometimes the weight seems to hang in there for a while before it slips away. If you are consistent about counting calories you will win in the long run.
Lisa: I’m happy that you love your new home. It took time to find the right place, but the time and care are worth every moment of the “hunt.”
Rebecca: You are an organized and smart shopper. WTG!!! :flowerforyou:
Michele: Your soup kitchen sounds like a great place. Treating people like guests with real silverware is a step in the right direction for the dignity of people and also for the environment. Nice!!!
Kim: Happy Birthday!!! :flowerforyou:
Lanette: We live smack in the middle of town and deer visit our garden. I know they’re enjoying my blue berries, but there are plenty to share this year. The deer are year around residents here. They seem to hide in hunting season, although it is illegal to hunt within the city limits. I have a neighbor who tattles on the deer in my garden but I don’t mind sharing. I grow herbs like chives and parsley, green beans, and blueberries. Beyond that, farm stores are not too far distant.
Our DDIL’s mom has had a horrible round of cancer treatments and is finally getting the chance to recover. I found a cancer map online and shared it with my son. She lives in the state with the highest cancer rates in the nation. Our son & DDIL have taken her to their home for her recovery. Their area has one of the lowest cancer rates, as do we.

Had a lovely walk (3 miles) with my bff this morning. She always brings along her Cockapoo , Sierra as we walk. while we were engrossed in conversation, Sierra found a mud puddle too late for us to intervene She was covered in mud and so very pleased with herself! I’ve included a pic of her after her hose down. She still looks mighty pleased with herself.
Loving all the convos about grocery and food planning. It is something I spend lots of time thinking about as well, i love a well made meal and love budgeting to stretch a dollar.

Budgeting- I do it but go over every month. I really need to get a handle on that!
Groceries— I use a list but shop with DH who is a splurge shopper. Makes the budget harder to manage.
Meals— since doing LCHF, I focus on dairy, good fats, and veggies. DH does most of cooking so he does meats.
Exercise— been lacking due to high heat and we have been splurging a bit on libations.
Got a board meeting today so must get moving.

Food Shopping, I am a minimalist with food as well as with other parts of my life. I fix simple meals and eat the same things over and over. I don't have to budget as strictly now as I did at other times of my life but I am careful especially to buy only what I can use and make sure that I don't let things spoil and have to throw them out. I would eat the same things all the time but Jake wants more variety so he started reading recipes and bought a slow cooker for making things. Since the recipes make more than we can eat in a meal, we freeze the extra in canning/freezing jars to have at another time. This also assures that we control portion size and don't eat too much of anything at one time. When I buy bread for myself, I keep it in the freezer and take out one or two slices and put them in the toaster. I buy primarily frozen vegetables because that assures that I don't worry about spoilage. We do buy salad makings and Jake will often make a salad for himself with bleu cheese dressing. I eat salads plain (a good budgeting strategy for both money and calories). We rarely eat in restaurants, drink no alcohol, and have stopped traveling so money for food doesn't have to be rationed so strictly. I lost weight using the Isagenix plan and still have an Isagenix shake for my breakfast.
As a great contrast to my simple cooking and eating style, two of my favourite TV programmes right now are "The Great British Baking Challenge" and "The Big Family Cooking Showdown", both shows set in Britain with fancy cooking with ingredients I've never heard of.

Warning - theft in progress, 'cause Barbie's was so cute! Hope it was a good day with your mom, Kim.
Kim,
Buzzing through on my lunch hour.
Going to the gym at all this morning was a triumph. The third-week blues. Weird family thing. Three days, three weeks, three months, three years, we all struggle with holding onto good habits at these junctures. Probably psychosomatic. But now that I've made it past the three-week Monday blues, I should be fine.
Weight stinks.
Other than that, everything is fine.
Love y'all,

I decided that today was our 'eat out' day that DH had promised me. We were planning to WALK to our favourite pizza place but the sky looked very ominous (it had been heavy showers all day) so we decided to catch the bus. We got to the bus stop and the heavens opened with lightening, a downpour and hail! Various people ran to shelter under the canopy.
The bus very kindly pulled up with its door directly opposite us.
Pizza and wine was heavenly, as was the service and the atmosphere, and we called in at the big supermarket on the way home to buy stuff we can't get locally.
Then we caught the bus home.
Now relaxing on the sofa with a couple of programmes to look forward to. I am just inside calories as I had cycled this afternoon for an hour.
At the restaurant DH asked if I wanted a meal out for my birthday. I said I thought the cruise was enough! We will be in Copenhagen for two days for my birthday, so I will research if there is somewhere good, but not too formal, for lunch the day before. To be honest, I'm not that bothered. On my actual birthday we are going over The Bridge, of TV fame, and will be champagne dining on the boat that evening in my sparkly dress and tiara, with the waiters serenading me. That's enough for any woman, I think!
We will probably do something nice for our 15th wedding anniversary in November. Unfortunately it's a Monday, I think. Not a good day for fine dining.

Here it is Monday and I am behind again. I did not work Friday as had acouple doctor appointments. Firgured nothing new just routine. At my eye appointment found out I have the start of glaucoma in one eye. So go back in 30 days for more test and a treatment plan. In meantime ordered new glasses with a big change. Then went to my regular doctor for my 6 month check and was so proud my AC1 is only 5.5. But my blood pressure was way high. So have to keep an eye on that.
We were lucky as the big wind storm last week we lost no trees or had any damage. Last 2 nights have had rain and wind again. Keeps a person on their toes for sure.
Heather--Sounds like you are going to have a fun and full trip. Glad you are feeling better after your scare. Please be carefull.
Pip--Congrates on reaching your goal!!
NYKaren--DH and I take day trips like that when we can and have the most fun. No schedule and just go where we feel like. Hope you and DH had a great day.
Well I am only up to page 35 but out of time.

Happy World Elephant Day!
"On August 12, 2012, the inaugural World Elephant Day was launched to bring attention to the urgent plight of Asian and African elephants. The elephant is loved, revered and respected by people and cultures around the world, yet we balance on the brink of seeing the last of this magnificent creature. ... World Elephant Day asks you to experience elephants in non-exploitive and sustainable environments where elephants can thrive under care and protection. On World Elephant Day, August 12, express your concern, share your knowledge and support solutions for the better care of captive and wild elephants alike. Support World Elephant Day so that we can continue to be a collective voice speaking out on behalf of elephants!"
bwetc - Hope the new carpet smell has dissipated by now so you can enjoy your new carpet! We are getting ready to do some painting and I've already decided I'm going to move the parrots into the RV until the paint fumes go away. Might move Philip and myself in there too, if it's too strong!
Sue - Here is a picture of Phineas supervising the contractors for the catio. As you can see, it's a chicken coop! We built a platform to raise it up two feet. Now I just need to add some interior bits to give them landing spots and then shove it up to the window and build a tunnel from the cat door to the enclosure.
I dropped the ball over the weekend. Still getting back into the swing of this thing so I was far behind this morning! When I was doing Noom I used my phone but I haven't found the MFP app very useful so on days when I'm not sitting at my computer it's easy to let the day get away from me. And I really really don't want to exercise. It's too hot to do it outside so I'm limited to what I can do in the house, and I haven't been in the mood for the Nordic Track or stationary bike. I just need to keep that ski trip next year in mind, and maybe shove the furniture aside so I can do exercise videos on days when I want to change things up.
Think I mentioned that I assigned Philip the task of meal planning. Well... that has not gone well and I'm irritated about it. He pulled out a handful of recipe cards, went to the store, and bought the ingredients for one meal but that was the extend of it.
Philip is a wonderful person and the love of my life, but now and then I just have to vent. There are only a handful of chores he's ever stuck with and he doesn't really do those the way I'd like. He tends to kind of do the minimum possible - for example, taking out the trash is his job. When I take out the trash I empty every wastebasket in the house, but Philip just empties the big kitchen trash can and that's it.
We've tried lists, gamification, all kinds of stuff but mostly when it comes to house work he'll do better for a little while and then it tapers off. By now I'm at the point where I'm not going to give him up over this and I don't want to argue about it, so mostly I just accept that I am the adult in the family and try not to be resentful. If we can get rid of enough extraneous stuff I'll lobby for a housekeeper every other week or so. But meal planning is not exactly rocket science, and it annoys me that a smart man can't take this simple task off my plate.
Anyhow, that's my vent and it's a small one in the grand scheme of things. Now back to work.

Yvonne Tx- Takes time to get family on board with dieting. Venting is a stress reliever which keeps weight down. If need be write what you are on paper 📝 stick with a few recipes you like so you know the calories ahead of time. Check out Walmart.com or other food sites that home deliver by mail (I’m not big on Uber versions only feel safe with my postwoman y young man). $35 it ships free can buy some diet food in bulk. Might not get everything you want since can’t get meats or veggies but you can get canned food to zero calorie dressings even tortillas. Can get the non-freezer department almond/soy mills etc to seasonings. I got myself 2 bottles zero cal Walden Farms Dressing,10cal g Hughes hickory bbq sauce,y special K Bars in the mail Saturday already digging in!
