Cheri: Very impressed by your afghans. Congrats to your daughter.
Machka: Totally agree re excessive sitting. When I was a teacher, I seldom sat during classes. Preferred to move round classroom. I also get up during ad breaks. It’s surprising how many steps that can rack up.
Kate: I had to give up on the knitting after working intensively to complete an Aran sweater for DH about 5 years ago gave me RSIin one of my thumbs. I can crochet, though.0 -
Happy Sunday!
Janetr - I never tire of seeing your before and after photos, always inspiring. Heather and others, yours as well. The way your health and quality of life has improved is amazing and keeps me going.
Will there ever be a time we won't be fretting about what we are eating? Perhaps. But there's so much junk food and fast food around now, we have to be more vigilant. I think as we get older, our appetites shrink somewhat so I am constantly asking myself do I want to fill my tummy with chips and cookies or hummus and veggies?
Cheri - congrats on Ros's new job and I really love those afghans. That pattern looks very familiar.
Katla - you are so right about WA State and their lax Fireworks laws. Current state code is something like it's allowed the WEEK before the 4th and the day after! What idiots thought that was a good idea... who knows, lol. Maybe the fireworks manufacturing lobby?
Barbara AHMOD - ah, the goop project is your deck. The guy that redid our deck last year said he could come sand it in a few years which would help when we restained. We do need to give it a coat or two before winter comes.
Kate - so sorry to hear about your achy thumb joint. Lovely photos and enjoy your evening and karaoke! I had a type of carpal tunnel surgery in my wrist about 10 years ago to stop my thumb from aching. It has helped immensely, but it's not 100%. Good old repetitive motion injuries. At least I can hold my coffee cup without pain.
Allie - so glad you had a wonderful couple days at the beach! Very healing. Your GF with the comments... when I read what she said to you, I couldn't help but wonder what was going on in her own life to make her so harshly critical of you. I do have a couple GF's that will tell me their opinions if I ask them. It might not be what I want to hear but they are generally right on, or give me enough feedback to get back on track.
I got behind yesterday! Need to get moving so more later-
Have a good Sunday!

Well will check in when I get home..1 -
Cheri, your afghans are beautiful.
Kate, Sorry to hear about your pain when knitting. I often have to stop for a bit and do some hand stretches but then I can go back to knitting again. Love your photos of Yorkshire. We recently watch a TV series set in Yorkshire and loved the beautiful scenery.
My current "battle" with food has to do with Jake's bread machine and all his bread making cookbooks. He keeps showing me recipes he'd like to try and wonders if I'd like them. I love bread but have difficulty being moderate with it so I limit it to special occasions. He is working at limiting sodium so for him, any recipe that is low sodium is a healthy one. All I see is carbs, calories, and the desire to eat the whole thing (probably with butter). I don't want to discourage him because this new hobby is bringing him so much joy. His health has made so many things like playing golf not possible any more so it's such a blessing that he found something new to fill his life.
I just finished reading "The Dorito Effect", a book about flavours and why it is so easy to crave junk food and thus overeat.

Rebecca: Happy Birthday to your son!!!
Heather: I hope Bea’s eye is better. :flowerforyou:
Pip: It sounds like you’re getting ready to do a little travelling. YAY!
Tracey in Edmonton: Thanks for your kind words; they help keep up morale. :flowerforyou:
Cheri: Congrats for your daughter’s new job!
Ginny in OH: Thanks for your kind words. Chronic pain is horrible. DH is enduring. We look forward to medical intervention but no clear details yet. :ohwell:
Machka: I am impressed by your commitment to good health practices and pleased that you’re sharing some very good strategies with us.
Rori: Happy to hear that your brother is feeling improved. I would love to see a current photo of the Rolling Stones. I wonder how well they’re doing at 50+.
Kate UK: I have some plastic gizmos that slide onto knitting needles & crochet hooks. They make the circumference bigger and help my hands relax a bit. I also stretch my hands frequently while knitting or crocheting. Good luck!
Lanette: I suspect that hunting dogs and dogs with floppy years do a bit better during fireworks week. I know there are gun protection products available for hunting dogs, but they’re all for dogs that are Lab or Golden Retriever sized. Our guy is too small for them to work. Going to a noise free park is our best strategy for this dog. :ohwell:
DH is awake and moving around. I suspect he’ll spend most of his day in the sitting area beside our bedroom windows. The chairs are comfortable, the view is nice and he is happy there.

Doing therapy now for bursitis in one hip.Dr said it was aggravated by getting in/out of a tall vehicle rented for Tn. My own fault,....DH had a truck I refused to ride in. Same problem, comes from being short.
Happy August & good health to all.

I have hip bursitis too. Mine gets activated when I pivot on my feet too much. I tend to forget my body is not 30 years old any more. Bursitis reminds me! Lol!

Neighbors, none nearby. 5 on our 1 mile lane. Nearest home (behind us on another road) sold recently, we can hear them sawing, chipping, hammering, but haven't hiked over to meet them. None across the lane, its a steep ravine. To our east I've met the woman, a Psychiatrist at the prison, who claims never to go anywhere. Suspect she and her husband are even more introverted than we. To our west I've met the wife in the car once and see the husband frequently as we drive past each other on the lane. He's been to our house to inspect our water system and make recommendations. He is the ONLY person Joe has really met here, and with whom Joe chats when they meet at the mailbox. I thank God for him. Further down the lane is a new couple, met him once at the mailbox. At the end of the lane is a widow with whom I've chatted on NextDoor. Still haven't gotten my lazy, self-indulgent butt down to visit, partially because she's afraid of dogs so I can't take Tumble with.
Joe loves this spacing and so do I... for now. So long as I can get into town several days a week to meet my social (and activity) needs. If/when I can't drive, I'd need to move into town which means Joe would have to put up with neighbors. May that day be far off.
NYKaren Driving adventure! I'd forgotten how much fun such adventures were. Looking forward to the travelogue.
KJ hope Trentin's mom is ok and it was just a phone glitch. How frustrating for you!
Carol, great smiling group of gals!
Machka "childhood punishments" made me choke on my tea! LOL!
Heather quite concerned about your spells. Can you get in for labs? Wouldn't want anything to taint your birthday cruise.
Welcome VenusCannon, amazing recoveries, inspiring activities.
Janet healing, strength and peace to your sister, her husband, their family and you. 55 years, what an accomplishment.
Rita your Linux project inspires me. Would be a much healthier use of my time than Spider and Freecell ;}
Lisa "no one mentioned" the prophylactic antibiotics after your knee surgery? :noway: SMH! Grr.
Katla sending strongest good energy for Monday's surgeon call, that it brings good news promising quick relief. Living with chronic pain stinks, as does living with someone who is so suffering. :brokenheart:
pip who ARE all those smiling people?
Rebecca Bailey's in birthday cake frosting. Yum!
Cheri congratulations to Ros! You must be so proud.
allie love hearing about your restorative beach trip. So very well-deserved.
Ginny "feeling tired but satisfied" and so very very well done.
Kay sounds yummy. How can I keep the rest of the can of coconut milk good after opening? Does it freeze well?
Pat in OH good to hear from you!
Michele, in my unasked-for opinion I woudn't say anything to the sweet lady, just keep in my mind that it was supposed to be an informal party and the more the merrier. Maybe your relaxed attitude will osmose over into Vince for next time Amaretto in frosting? Even YUMMier.
Rori would you share before Bathroom pics and your plan? So I can enjoy vicariously? Rolling Stones tour in Denver? Bet those tix are $$$$!
Kate when my thumb or wrists start to act up, I rub in a few drops of CBD oil. Seems to help, could be placebo effect. Hope the pilots settle down and Spain's sunny weather heals all your ills. Beautiful pics. . . and the scenery too
Lanette please send your deck guy and his sander here. Puh LEEZE!
Barbie I am so with you about bread, eating the whole thing with butter, it surely is one of my triggers. Also understand about not wanting to sour the joy your DH gets from his new hobby. Is there a nearby soup kitchen that would welcome his output? Is there room in their (or your) freezer to accumulate loaves 'til there are enough to share?
Anyone heard from Sharon near Seattle about her trip?
Lost the fast food battle yesterday with sm coke, 2/3rds of a Rodeo King burger and fries. Gonna overcome with a pound of veggies today. Take THAT fast food industry!!!
Tracey and Machka wow that article sure puts it strongly. Time for me to get UP and move. NEVER want another DVT.
Barbara, the Southern Oregon Coastie AHMOD

Sherry ~ So good to hear from you. The afghans are lovely. Happy to hear that your daughter secured what sounds like an excellent job and wishing her luck on finding living accommodations.
Ginny ~ Your children’s community service day sounds like you all did an excellent job. I know in Atlanta they have a stuff the bus event every year when school starts to furnish school supplies to needy children. I remember when I took my granddaughter to meet her teacher in 2nd grade there was a huge amount of supplies each child was expected to bring.
Pat ~ Great that your sis was able to fix your hair. I seem to stick to the bob and not try new things.
Michele ~ I’m sorry that your neighbors did not show up for your party but glad that y’all still had a good time. What will you do with all the leftover food? My DnL’s brother is the executive chef at a country club and ordered 2000 turkeys his first Thanksgiving there. Very few came for the celebration and I guess he had to send some back.
Heather ~ So glad you and your hubby are having such much fun with the grands. Our 9 yr old grandson spent the night with us last night (first time in years) and we enjoyed visiting with him (he’s very talkative). He spent a lot of his time on his tablet and on my computer playing games and talking to his friend. I know he spends too much time on his electronics, but, mom keeps him in sports every season of the year so I hope it will all even out.
Allie ~ So glad you have had a wonderful weekend away!
Kate ~ Thanks for sharing your photos. Such lovely scenery and the last photo of you was a great one.
Sitting: A saying I well remember from my teaching days is, “A teacher on her feet if worth two in a seat.”
Brother in Law is not doing well after his heart bypass. They had to restrain him because he was trying to pull all the IV’s and breathing tube out. They are sedating him today to keep him still.
The other brother in law who I talked about being so ill in March and April is doing a lot better since he has been in the memory care facility. I think this is due to him getting fed regularly and getting the meds he needs. When he went into the hospital, there was no food in the house and we figured out that he had not been taking his medication. Now, he is back to using his computer and trying to get his 2018 taxes figured out. We are hoping to get him moved out of memory care to another part of the facility where he will have more freedom.
Wishing a great day to everyone and prayers for those who need them.

Woof I'm home but it was a very tiring ride .. of I left a little after 9:30 ..but got homenaboit 20 min ago.. had to stop Alfie pukes in the car next time no breakfast for him... and silly me it's a little cooler up there so I had a heavy sweatshirt on which made me sleepy. So took a 10 min rest at a rest area and got home..
It was just what I needed and will download the pictures this afternoon..4 -
Barbara: Thanks for your kind words. Monday we’ll be in touch with our primary doctor and see what comes next for DH.
Pip: We’ve often said that we would like to be up there and cheer on you and everyone else who rides for the MS ride, but DH simply hasn’t been feeling good enough for us to follow through. I have hopes that this planned surgery actually resolves his backpain issues. The backpain is not caused by MS. It is caused by arthritis, which is also an autoimmune disease. His MS is under excellent control thanks to a great doctor and good medicine. You and others who ride have helped bring MS into the spotlight and support development of good medicines that help sufferers feel better. THANK YOU!!!!!

Youth group swim party was a success!! The kids had a blast, and our host/hostess had a great time with the kids-all 6th through 11th graders this school year. This evening will be dinner, games for the kids and planning meeting for the parents.
Let the new school year craziness begin!!! Now, can I avoid stress eating remains to be seen!

Carol - Max is an electronics geek too, but his mum rations him really closely. Here we try to focus on interaction, but we did watch some kids programmes on Utube. He 'helped' me with Duolingo Spanish this morning. (He was excellent as you would expect as he goes to a bilingual school) His computer time is the first thing to be confiscated if he is naughty. I'm sure he will end up doing something in that area as a job. He goes to coding classes on Saturdays.
His favourite thing with DH is inventing board games. Today they made one called 'The Not Happy Holiday'. It had forfeits like, delayed flight, getting your wallet stolen, losing the keys to your villa.
I did manage to do 400 calories of exercise this pm. Rowing and biking. Phew! Luckily I enjoyed the streamed tv programme I watched, so the time passed easily.
The dinner I cooked tonight was gorgeous. A zucchini and tomato mix with a garlic prawn topping. I will do that again. Very garlicky and a bit of fresh chilli.
Just squeaked under calories today.

Cooling down from the yardwork. Went to the gym and did 33 minutes on the elliptical, 2 miles. Came home and mowed half the yard while Corey trimmed the edges, then he mowed the other half (it's about 2 acres right around the house) while I pruned more of the trees, to get them up high enough to mow under. Turns out if you trim all the lower branches high enough so I don't bump my head them when I walk, then you can run the riding mower right up to the tree trunks.
So far, we've identified lots of crape myrtles, wild plums, maples, some of which are silver maples, lots of boxwood, mimosa, catalpa trees, persimmons, sycamore, loblolly and short leaf pine, and that's just the ones we've identified. We've got honeysuckle growing wild, blackberries, which we're trying to get tamed back into a limited space, and resurrection lilies by the wellhouse.
Love this place. We did the right thing, moving here. Time to shower.
Thinking of you all,

This.......my exact feeling & DH loves home made bread! He’s one of those long tall guys who never gains weight.I am sooo jealous!

Hubs grilled again for lunch today! I'm falling into a rut of having charcoaled tuna, broccolini and zucchini on Sundays. It's a good rut, so I'm OK with it. I have 1/2 left for dinner this evening. Yum!

Missed my calories by 28. I need a category for almost! I can't really complain because my scale knows the difference between almost vs blowout.
I went to a music festival yesterday. Heard excellent tribute bands play Steely Dan and southern rock. Some very impressive guitar work.5 -

Hello! When I read your post I had to add, "we are all success stories even before we lose the weight". Its giving yourself permission to put yourself first.💖👍4 -
Michele, the coconut milk is to add creaminess. The original recipe said you could leave it out. I’m sur a little almond milk would also be ok. I used food grade peppermint essential oil, but I would use mint extract if I didn’t have that. I rarely have the leaves. The recipe also said you could add a little vodka to keep it from icing up in the freezer. I only make enough for the one serving and eat it immediately, so I see no need for vodka. Barbara, I pour the leftover coconut milk in a mason jar with a lid and store it in the fridge. I use mine in other things like smoothies and more ice cream. It keeps for a while. I’m not sure how long. I use mine up pretty quick. For some reason, I think the canned coconut milk is creamier than the carton. Cacao nibs are 45 calories per tablespoon.
You can also experiment with other flavors. I just think it has to have the frozen banana for a base. I’ve done a frozen banana, 1/2 cup of frozen strawberries and a little coconut milk, too. It is extremely yummy.3 -
