@ContraryMaryMary Well done!
And we really just need pick a time and stop messing with the clocks. hashtag grrr (we did no switch till after Halloween here in the USA, might interfere with candy sales otherwise)
@eleanorhawkins - Great job pushing through despite the conditions!0 -
Anyone need a training journal? It reminded me of @MobyCarp with its Boston blue.
Believe
Also, RTY/RTE has a promo started for next year. Many of you know that we formed teams and beasted on the miles this year... might have been a little too easy with 5 person teams... if you are interested in a team I’m sure there will be some. If I’m upright, I’ll participate. And I can rook dh in to it too. Or you can do the challenges on your own, if you have the mileage like @AlphaHowls @garygse @PastorVincent, @Scott6255 @polskagirl01 @kristinegift (hi), and the rest of you bad mamajammas 😄
Both the Believe folks and RTE ship outside of the US. I found shipping reasonable. (Ish)
Now go run for me.
ETA I signed up. I encourage you to have a look at it if you don’t do races and only want to participate in virtual runs, or maybe your coming back form a 4th hip surgery.... This promo package is all the races you need all year. I bought the whole shebang and and it was 62.99 with us shipping. I think the cheapest route, no swag is 25 (regular price). And the promo price expires oct 1st midnight... then I think it goes up 80 bucks.
Doc better be right that I’ll be cleared to start running January or February...7 -
@ContraryMaryMary @eleanorhawkins great job on your races!0

Good morning! Yesterday I ran a mile indoors on the treadmill at an incline and a higher speed. My time wasn’t great, but the point is, I pushed myself. I wanted to puke. I saw other people running at faster speeds last week and wondered why I never do that.... so I started to last week but yesterday I had to really push.
I also read that I should NEVER lift in running shoes. So I switched that. And ordered some Salomons for running as my Mizunos are worn out and my feet have been killing me for days after the gym.
My left arch, to be specific. The pain causes a limp and causes me to wince with every step. I haven’t run outdoors since I signed up for the goal because I am afraid to go run in old shoes, outside, already in pain. Do any of you have experience with this or know what is wrong? I haven’t met my insurance deductible yet so I’d love to NOT go to the doctor yet!
Good news is my new shoes will be here October 1, so just in time to set a goal for October5 -

Did my last long-ish run before my first HM next Sunday. Not entirely sure how I'm feeling about it seeing as I didn't get to run as far/as much as I'd hoped in preparation, but it's too late now! Will manage a few short, slow runs in the week before I rest up!4 -
@AlphaHowls and @ContraryMaryMary Congratulations on your races.
@eleanorhawkins Way to go. You are amazing!

The forecast was right: it snowed yesterday. We're in the valley though so it didn't stick. This morning it was 36F when I started out and though I knew I probably would need to peel off the layers, I still started with long sleeves, tights, jacket, hat and gloves. Within a mile, the gloves and jacket were off... the hat followed them not long after. I ran half the distance with Jackson, went home and dropped him and all my extra clothes, picked up Kira and ran another loop. I even mixed in a few strides.
The forecast calls for below freezing temperatures for the next few days, then it warms up a little (but still below 40). I'm looking forward to the cool weather for running!9 -
6 miles Thursday that I can't remember if I reported yet, or not, and 6 miles today. Extra rest day on Friday, like a dope, so 3 days in a row with tomorrow to make something close to goal... I'll be okay with anything between 6.5 miles and 16.5 - seems reasonable.

01/09 2.58 miles
07/09 3.28 miles
08/09 2.52 miles
10/09 3.29 miles
11/09 3.18 miles
12/09 2.05 miles
18/09 2.36 miles
29/09 2.14 miles - Well at least I've done 20 miles for the month.
I'm really behind on reading the posts. Its been a hectic few weeks, been to 2 music festivals one which included Sinead O'Connor performing. I've bought a spin bike because our winters can get very stormy and make it awful to get out for a run. So I'm going to try and mix both for the winter.

Hi everyone! Well I had a pretty not cool weekend. I haven't had a chance to read any posts. I ended up needing to call emergency services Saturday morning due to severe abdominal pain that didn't go away after a few hours. I hate hospitals, I'm one of those people that have to be half dead before seeing a doctor, and I hated being transported in an ambulance, but I didn't know what else to do. I felt like my stomach was being chewed on from the inside out. Expected an alien to come chewing out at any moment. I had no other symptoms, just pain. Anyway, after several tests and scans they didn't find anything wrong with me, but the first two rounds of pain meds didn't help much. Around the 10th hour the pain suddenly got worse and they gave me another dose of some "strong" pain medicine that I have never heard of. That one seems to have done the trick but they decided to keep me overnight. So I got no running done this weekend. I was so weak yesterday from dealing with the stress and pain, and today after leaving the hospital, I've been trying to drink lots of liquids and walking around to get the meds out of my system. So....I am not going to meet my running goal for the month. Just going to focus on doing what I need to so I can run my half on Thursday.17

OMG that sounds awful! Did they figure it out? Might sound strange but Gas pains can be like that. I've had them so bad I thought I was going to pass out from the pain. But then never had it last hours0 -
@143tobe yikes, hope you feel better and whatever it was disappears as abruptly as it appeared and stays away!
@Elise4270 gah you got me. I had been ignoring the emails from the about 2020 for a while, but your post convinced me. That and the fact I want to do the November thing anyway. Too cheap to pay international shipping though so just basic again. Tbh I'm kinda frustrated with the thing atm, I decided I wanted to try and get the 2019 individual miles done by including walking and swimming as well as running, but I'm at 1406 so it's not looking likely. As I stand, I need to cover 47.something miles per week for the rest of the year and it's unlikely. So I'm sulking lol.
This morning's little shake out run took me past my goal for the month, and I plan another 5 kilometres tomorrow too. Glad I didn't inlcude every single mile on my training plan as I missed a run last weekend while I was ill.
The next month is going to be a heavy duty one, I have long runs of 10, 11 and 12 miles on the Sundays for the first 3 weeks, then a taper, then HM the first Sunday in November. My legs are a little angry with me at this point, have an appointment with my physio for some torture massage on Thursday, hope that helps. Starting to feel the need to pray I don't end up injured again. Aaaaaand here come the pre-race nerves starting to rear their head already! I need to learn to stop doing that a month in advance
September goal: 110km. Run so far: 112.21km9 -
@eleanorhawkins aww, now how about I ship you some of the swag? Don’t let me forget come January and I’ll get it to you. And/ Or you can give me your t shirt size and I’ll order ya one or medal if you prefer. I think with this years package we’re already in the November streak thing... I tried to ignore the emails too, but they were so well put together and the dealings I’ve had with them were like dealing with old pals. So, I caved. It’ll give me something to look forward too, I hope.
Preface jitters? Nah, girl you got this. It’s just a run with other runners. Play it smart, listen to your body, rest regularly and have a treat now and then. Don’t start any new training, no speed work or terrain changes, stick to your tried and true shoes. You got this. You’re trained for this. Your strong. You’re a runner. Say it again... YOU ARE A RUNNER... ya again. Say it until you believe it!6 -
I'd like to join the October group, please! I ran 4.25 miles this morning and I want to push myself in the upcoming month.8
-
@Avidkeo , yeah, my husband and I thought it could be gas pains so in the morning when it started I took some anti gas drops and took a bath to relax everything. I tried to massage my stomach the best I could, but when it only got worse after a few hours is when I decided to go. It didn't feel like gas pains, but I know it was a possibility. I didn't want to get detailed, but the pain actually disappeared after I dry heaved from when the third dose of pain medicine made me feel sick. It really hurt to sit up so I could throw up, but after I did that, it's like my whole body relaxed and my pain was magically gone. So if gas can some out from retching than maybe it was gas? I don't know! When all my tests came back clear I was so afraid they were going to call psych next. I was beginning to wonder if it was psychosomatic. I went to bed the night before with some pressure on my chest, but I think I was just feeling stressed because my youngest son was sick. I woke up with the same pressure on my chest but it went away and was replaced by my stomach pain. I told them this, they did an EKG but it didn't indicate anything wrong.4

Hey October? Poor ladies down under don’t have a thread... anyone?
ETA ok.. I’m gonna try it... no guarantees I won’t mess it up....4 -

Hopefully there’s nothing really wrong and this will never bother you again, but just in case I would hate for something to happen to you because I failed to mention it! Feel better soon, and good luck with your half.7 -

I really want to add a few quotes to the intro. one from Kevin and another from Dennis. any nominations, favorites? Maybe we'll add it to next months. i think they both should be carried in the monthly threads.
holy *kitten*. @143tobe I hope @rheddmobile is wrong, but since nothing definitive was found, I agree a million times over with her. Might look after it ASAP.5 -
@ContraryMaryMary and @eleanorhawkins Great job on the races!
We’re back to summer heat again but at least it’s not as humid - ran 5 miles on the Greenline. Husband’s ankle still not the greatest, he called for a walk break to let it loosen up after 3 miles, but then decided to finish at a run since it weirdly bothers him more while walking. We took it very easy overall. Heat really makes a difference.
That’s my 50 mile goal for September, not going to make my 60 mile stretch goal but I’m satisfied because the reason for less mileage is a couple of cut back weeks so we could do well at races, and we did well at both races. I should get in one more run this month tomorrow, lifting today.2 -

Good news is my new shoes will be here October 1, so just in time to set a goal for October
Sounds like maybe plantar fasciitis? There are various things to try, but what worked for me was mostly time and letting my feet get stronger. New shoes should definitely help. You could try rolling the bottom of your foot on a tennis ball.
As far as the other runners being faster, never compare yourself to others! They are at a different stage in their journey. It’s okay to be slow starting out. As you add mileage you will naturally get faster. Then you can also add in some intervals to learn what a faster pace feels like. But you definitely don’t need to push yourself until you feel like you’re going to puke! It won’t help you in the long run and there are no medals for going fast on a treadmill.4
