LaurieLynn62 wrote: »Hi all! I've been using MFP off and on for years. I'm 57 and had lost 25 pounds about 7 years ago. I managed to keep it off until a little over a year ago when it started creeping back on (thank you menopause and injuries). I was considering WW but wanted to give being active in a group for accountability and logging daily a chance to work for me again.
My calorie goal is 1200/day. My workout is Chalean Extreme (Beachbody workout) plus a goal of 10,000 steps per day. Unfortunately, I have a full-time job where I sit at a desk all day but at least I can adjust it so I can stand up and work (when I remember to do it).
I haven't had a chance to read through all of the September posts, but this looks like a wonderful group of ladies.

It is nice to see another person who has returned and working at getting the pounds off as well as staying in shape. I am 76 and just keeping to 1200 calories a day and getting in 10,000 steps has me pumped and motivated at the consistent weight loss of 1 to 1.5 pounds a week..Good luck to you Karen in Virginia

Machka[/b] - (((HUGS))) Glad you got everything working again and found the phone. Do you think your being sick affected him in any way - did he have anxiety because you weren't "you" for a few days? Not that this had anything to do with the computer/phone incident. Just curious.

No, this is just how it goes. He'll have a day where he appears to be almost back to "normal", and the next day is a massive swing the other way. And back and forth and back and forth ...
That was part of the problem with his back to work person. She'd see him on a good day, or a good portion of a day, but she wouldn't see him on a bad day.
However, some of this may have been me not paying attention because I was sick. I know he told me on Thursday morning as I was getting ready for work that one of his phones was missing. I wasn't feeling great on Thursday, I never feel great in the morning, and I remember him handing me one of his phones and when I glanced at it, it had gone to voice mail ... and he told me he couldn't find the phone he had just called. I think I said something like, "it'll turn up" expecting he would look for it, but sometimes he doesn't quite "get" phrases like that, so he didn't bother looking. I should have followed up with that.
And I should have written down a few things about his computer for him. I told him to install Malwarebytes and it would be finished. So ... he apparently installed all sorts of programs he had on other computers, completely filled this one and when he finally went to install Malwarebytes as I had told him, it crashed badly. And then I think he panicked and by the time I got there he was reinstalling Windows 10. I knew something was wrong the minute I got up this morning by the look on his face.
I'm retraining as much as he is. It does seem that every time I just assume that he'll be OK with something and don't write things down or don't give specific instructions, all hck breaks loose.
Amongst all this, we're trying to work on another project (taxes), and I've done my part, but I think I'm going to have to break his down into steps. Look for this first, then that, etc. because he's just getting lost. And I think that project is stressing him out. I'll be glad when it's done.
Anyway ... phone found, computer fixed with Malwarebytes installed, banking issues settled, and I think my part of the taxes are done so I can focus on his. So all is not lost!!
It's late in the evening, I've been drinking chamomile tea and my headache is disappearing.

Lanette, Bessie is feeling better. She ate her supper and breakfast of chicken breast and white rice. She won't take any medication by mouth so any obvious solution for other dogs won't work for her.
Heather, You and your husband look fabulous.

Tom has resigned himself knowing these will be the last few weeks we have Chester.. last night in amazement ,Chester was running around like a puppy and chowing down on everything under the sun which made Tom super excited.. but he is enjoying every moment with him.. like I said I go during the week and spend my time.. dont want to invade on there privacy..
the girls and I will be going to the winery around noon, supposed to be glorious out.. I made celery stuffed with cream cheese and deviled eggs ta ta for now5 -
Heather: You look fabulous! We visited Egypt on our first cruise in 2009 from Durban, South Africa to Genoa, Italy, via the SuezCanal. We went to Cairo and Giza. We had to bypass Luxor and missed the Valley of the Kings because our ship was attacked by Somali pirates just beyond the Seychelles and our course was altered for safety reasons.
Just arrived at daughter’s house for our Sunday visit.4 -

We had the Ocho Millas bike race here yesterday. 64 miles of hills. It is 8 laps around the park with 8 mile laps. Disappointing turnout this year, but did have over 60 participants. Benefits a reach out program. I was with a couple from the park Friends group selling T shirts. Didn’t sell any. Disappointed. At least it was overcast and drizzling. A nice cool day for the race. Last year the sun was out and it was over 90 degrees out!
Cool and still drizzling today. Just in time for fall.
Starting to feel better. Thank you all.

Did Kathy Smith’s Power Walk DVD. The plan for tomorrow is to do one segment of the 10MS Butt Lift DVD then take the extremepump class.
Need to go to bowling early tomorrow since we’re having our organizational meeting for the winter league. Ceramics at night then mahjongg.
Ginny OH – what is ironing???? Good for you pants and coats going to Goodwill
Rho – you have my admiration for all you’ve been thru and to be where you are now
M – you also have my undying admiration. I feel so blessed to call you my friend
Heather – how scary for you! But at least you knew the reason for dh’s fainting. Love the red on you
SuziQ – our place is in Titusville. We usually go down there for the month of Feb. Vince likes to go to the Daytona 500 and to me the condo is so very relaxing. North Carolina has a lot of “half backs” who bring their “new” driving “skills” with them <sigh>, so I hear ya about the FL drivers. I’m so sad to hear that Amtrak is eliminating the dining car. That was one thing I always looked forward to when on a train.
Iced the cupcakes for the gal at the Y, then iced the cake for Vince. I tried some different icing techniques.
Will probably go in the pool

heather - you look wonderful, enjoy your pre-birthday party.
Kelly - I love how you are able to handle Tim’s mood. I should take lessons from you.
Machka - you have had to take on so much since your husband’s accident and from the outside looking in it seems you have done it with nothing but grace and kindness. I hope he continues to improve and you get to get back to some of your old routines.
Allie - you have done so well in a year!
I don’t have a lot to say this morning, I’m still not feeling well and I’ve done nothing all weekend. Hopefully another day of rest will have me set up for the week ahead.

Heather, glad your husband's doing OK, looks like a wonderful pre-birthday celebration, and you look lovely! Nice to see you with both your sons...1

Hi Gals,
Lisa – glad to hear what the out come of the job up and down, I remembered the stress about the change of supervisor and had not heard an update. I do believe that having options allows us to have the “freedom” to step back and view the situation more objectively.
The new mud room is fab!
Rho – glad to hear you mention fiber and protein, as staying within calories is easier for me when I am at or above the MFP recommended fiber.
Rita – hang in there ! tummy issues can steal your get up and go very quickly, and it’s been very hot there.
Lanette – just a thought my vacuum had a similar problem to yours I took it to the vacuum repair guy in my town and for $12 he repaired it… while I waited, it needed a new belt.
Heather – your picture is great! Glad you knew what was up with DH and fainting, and was able to help. ** farther in posts *** the cake fireworks picture is amazing!
Michele – had to google “half back” I had not heard that term for everyone else it is someone from the northern part of the US east coast who moved to Florida and is now leaving Florida and moving half of the way back to the north.
Furry Friends and tummy issues - my dog before this one, had a very sensitive tummy and digestive system and I ended up giving her about 1-2 ounces of plain yogurt each day in her food, and it managed the situation completely after a couple of weeks with the yogurt we never had a problem unless I forgot (ran out of) yogurt for too long.

Latestarter Sarah: Welcome! We all started late—after we had already put on excess pounds that we needed to lose. You’ve found a wonderful group of supportive women.
Barbie: A couple of years ago our dog had a huge digestive upset. The vet gave us instructions to feed him white rice and boiled chicken, exclusively. Our dog had that along with multiple medications to help him heal. He survived it all and is doing very well. He now eats dried dogfood with a bit of canned dog food mixed in for flavor and a bit of extra nutrition. He’s 12 years old and getting along pretty well. DH & I have discontinued eating white rice and no longer have any in the house because of the swift conversion of white rice to blood sugar in the digestive system, and lack of fiber as well as low nutrition value. :ohwell: (I’d buy more if our dog needed it.)
Machka: I love The Man in the Arena. Thank you for sharing!
Heather: Love the photos!. You are gorgeous! Your story is inspirational and your transformation is proof of what determination and a bit of help from MFP can accomplish. WTG!!! Enjoy your birthday celebration with the grandchildren & your two sons. You look fabulous and red is your color. I turned 70 in July. So far, it seems to be just fine. I don’t think you’ll mind it a bit, either.
Allie & Terri: Having to make the decision to have a dog put down is one of the very worst things about pet ownership. I imagine that God feels the same way when any of his people need to pass away. He gets to bring them home, and we have to cope with our loss of family, friends, or furbabies.
Michele: Your comments about AMTRAK resonate. Our last train ride was to Seattle for a boat show and it was years ago. I enjoyed it very much. It was a short trip, so there were no meals, but you could buy snacks or alcohol. I hope you enjoy your time in Florida this coming February.
Riding lesson today. We’d planned a trail ride but the weather has intervened so I’ll be riding in the arena. Riding outside is wonderful when it is dry. Not so great in the rain and on mudslick ground.

I recently purchased this! Absolutely love it! I hop on and off all day. Reading, watching TV and just b/c. It was $179 when I bought it. It folds but is so compact as it is. Put together myself.

Thanks all for your comments! I don't often get a photo with both my sons!
Home now. My elder son spent about an hour and a half helping Max put together a very fiddly kit car, with tiny engine parts. They managed to finish the most difficult bits. It needed two grown men, one of whom is a professional engineer, to put the thing together. My younger son will finish it off with Max - one day!
My elder son is now taking a nap!
Good day. Shall not see the grandchildren again until after the cruise.
How lucky I am to have such love.

Sensational Sunday Greetings!
Reinventing Rhonda - Day 21 (yesterday)
I'm a morning person. So I decided that rather than doing my personal updates at the end of the day, I'd do them in the mornings for the day previous . . .
Yesterday, I planned my meals for the day starting with a large protein enriched breakfast. Then completely cleaned the bedroom including the windows and the carpet: BF helped I had planned to work on cleaning stuff from my garage, but BF had to deal with a difficult client. When that happens, he gets me engaged in verbal processing over how to proceed. I don't particularly like the process since it takes time away from my plans, but feel good that he's able to confide in me and give voice to his problems; many men can't or won't. At the end of the day, I came under my limit for fats, carbs and sugar. Yea! I still need to up my fiber though.
My biggest aim for September was to focus primarily on eating whole plant based foods that are low in fat, carbs and sugar. Its a work in progress that needs further discipline.
Health sub-goals:
1. establish a regular sleep pattern, (i.e. 10pm to 6am sleep) - Successful 5 out of 7 nights on average.
2. measure my body weight and glucose each morning - Yes to weigh in; zero glu testing.
3. measure, weigh and track everything I eat, everyday - Estimated success 99% of the time.
Personal goals:
1. meditate 10 min each a.m. and visualize/plan future 10 minutes each p.m. - 4 out of 7 days on average.
2. clean out the garage of excess stuff - sorely behind where I hoped I'd be at this point.
3. scan/digitize important papers (so I'm near paperless) - Going very well. Hope to be done by month end.
With nine days left in the month, I'll push myself hard to make the health goals routine. I will also push hard on personal goal #1. I know morning meditation helps me to be focused and calmer throughout the day and that planning/visualizing in the evening sets up my brain to achieve what I want in the future2 -
took one for the team yesterday and went to a bob seger concert last nite.
Kirby has college friend coming from Indiana on her way to a wedding in San Fran ca and stopped by for a quick visit in their motor home. it's funny when you haven't seen someone for years and when you see them it's kinda like you haven't been apart and you just pick up where u left off. her best friend that lives in Seattle and her husband (Kirby's ex girlfriend) came up with her husband yesterday an we had dinner then the concert.
I was pleasantly surprised that he still sounded like he did on the records, not bad for 74 and he hadn't lost his voice.7 -
Taking it easy. I have a cold today.5

Good morning/afternoon (or evening) and happy weekend!
I hadn't been eating as healthily as intended over the last week or so due to multiple stresses. But happy to report that my weight loss that began earlier in the month has remained stable. Also happy to report BF is doing great after having TURP last Thursday.
Yesterday, I stopped by my mechanic's shop. While there, my new transmission was delivered by the shipper. Seeing it brought tears to my eyes. I like being physically active and I like car camping. I own a couple of cars, but this the only one that allows for mine and BF's bikes being quickly/easily piled into the back (for a day ride); the only one with a roof rack for my kayak; the only one I went to the trouble of getting a Thule cargo carrier for and the only one wide and long enough for the two of us to sleep in if rains while camping. I can't recall being so excited about the arrival of an inanimate object. And looking forward to doing all those activities next year is great motivation for me to get in shape!!!
Allie Lhasas and Shih Tzu (similar features) are both intelligent, sweet, loving dogs. I wasn't sure which one was your Chester. We had a red haired Lhasa when my boys were in their teens. We named her named her Allie :-) It's incredibly tough letting a loved one go . . .
Rebecca You are very fortunate to have a son whose home he shares with you. How has your DH been since the liver transplant?
My dream would be to live in a warmer climate (the Yucatan or in Panama, perhaps) for a few years before settling down in an RV traveling and/or living on my eldest son's rural 17.5 acres - off the grid. Although I have lived outside of the US on my own, I have reservations about doing so at the age I am now. My dream is rather dependent on BF "getting on-board" and his profession allows him to work into advancing years, so, we'll see.
Sharon Relating the how you spent the last remaining time with your DH brought tears to my eyes. Thank you for sharing.
SuziQ I have tried alternatives to sugar and didn't find one that I liked much, so at the beginning of this month I gave up all sugars. About five days later I no longer felt like I was jonesing for some sweetness. But I had not cleaned out my cupboards, and last week I succumbed. This morning, I cleaned out all my cupboards I don't know about you, but I've been pre-T2D for a while so it will behoove me to lessen high sugar veggies as well.
M in Oz Good to hear you're back on the bike, both figuratively and literally
Lisa in AR Until ten years ago, like you, I've lived a rather peripatetic life. There can be many advantages to "settling" in one place even with less pay. I'm much calmer and satisfied with my life now Your job sounds like it could be very fulfilling! Best wishes!
AZTeri Wow!!! 34.55 miles! Very impressive
Book reading Since the boom in computer and internet usage, my reading is more research and fact based than before. I'm a bit behind in reading current materials for leisure. I'm about half-way through The Omnivore's Dilemma by Michael Pollan and recommend it to anyone with interest in diet, nutrition and the US agricultural system.
Languages I attended a French immersion school from 12-14 and had three years of Spanish in high school. Living in Spain b.c. (before children ;-) I taught English for two years. During my four years in Europe and North Africa, I picked up some Arabic and Greek also. Being able to speak anything but English now is just about nil. I don't recall who in the group mentioned DUOLINGO, but I'll definitely be looking into it since an upcoming winter aim is to refresh my Spanish speaking skills. I've read/heard that learning/speaking a foreign language is one of the best ways to keep one's mind sharp into advancing years
Newbies Welcome! Welcome! Welcome!
Rho
Rho, every single day I am reminded of how fortunate I am. My eldest son and I have a close relationship. I was pretty protective, as he was growing up, with the bulk of his learned behaviors ( age 2-4 yrs old), happened in Japan. Protective meaning he was always at my side. My one fear was that he would get lost in a crowd, be pushed on a train, and be lost forever. When we arrived back stateside, his language speaking skills were impacted by his time in Japan. Many years of speech therapy until grade 4. So class mates listened to how he spoke, not what he said. Growing up, he was friends with the "lost kids", kids that wore black, "the invisibles". He didn't have to prove himself, and he wore his heart on his sleeve, still does. I think he will always be a sensitive sort, my gentle giant. There is a childlike innocence about him, and his hobbies of Legos, and toys reflect that.
Our time in our RV was great! I miss that Winnebago! Here's a pic.💖
Right now I am such a homebody! Love to not travel. Today we have to travel to Seattle airport, to drop off eldest son. He's traveling to San Diego, with a bunch of his squadron to put together a helicopter.👍

For 5 years that dang RV was are primary vehicle. Need milk, everyone get in the RV! Let's go out to dinner, everyone get in the RV!!!💖4

Went in the pool but really don’t have time to start stringing popcorn as I have to leave for church in about 45 minutes.
Rebecca – if I were to tell Vince “you have 4 lunches to plan and $10 to do it” I know that he’d choose nothing but junk food which is usually cheaper.
Welcome everyone new! There’s no time like the present, so come on in!
Rho – boy, I didn’t realize how active you were! How wonderful you’re getting the new transmission. I love Michael Pollen’s works. I’ve read and reread them
Started working on the diamond dotz for Colby. I was trying to avoid having to mat the picture, but I don’t think it can be helped. The good part is that this helps keep me busy at night, meaning not eating….lol
Michele in NC
Awe, well mine doesn't do much better. He chooses ravioli cans, Mac & cheese frozen meals, but he does eat a salad a couple of times a week. Today he ate chips, cheese and salsa as we watch the Rugby World Cup, and in a bit he'll heat up two of the lasagna squares. He is a snacker, but he picked some grapes out, so that's good.👍
