09/21 140.2 Hosted a lovely pool party/dinner last evening. Good thing I worked out a little extra, as I enjoyed a huge plate of awesome and healthy food. Baked chicken, roasted beets with herbs from our garden, mashed potatoes, curried vegies, salad, figs from our tree, pico gallo Nica style.
09/22 141.2 watched some surfing this afternoon, then into town for lobster, red snapper filet, and garlic shrimp, with some salad, and a wee bit of the rice.

THERE ARE NO QUICK FIXES OR SHORTCUTS to achieving permanent change.
REMINDERS One or two thoughts which might give heart to some of you.- Daily weight fluctuations are normal, and can be as much as 2 lbs a day for no apparent reason.
- A general downward trend is what we are looking for.
- Eating out can cause apparent weight gain because of high sodium levels, but usually goes quickly. Drinking extra water helps with this.
- The human body does not react instantly to what we do to it. Sometimes it can take several days to see results.
- Plateaus are a normal part of the process. The body is consolidating and adapting to your new way of eating/exercising.
- The closer you get to your goal weight, the more difficult it becomes to lose weight, as your body becomes more efficient at using what you feed it.
- When you exercise you build muscle, which takes up less space than fat, so use measurements as well as weight to assess your progress.
- Getting/Staying fit and healthy requires a lifestyle change for most people.

9/20: 225.6 (-1.0)/19.1 (-0.1). This is a great start, particularly given that I was likely right at about maintenance in calories last night. Food quality was good, though. IT'S THE WEEKEND... and instead of going into it hopeful (and a little blind), I'm going to think through a plan. Right now. Gym tonight after work, basketball tomorrow... I don't think I can go to the gym on Sunday, because I'll be trying to fix my car with my dad and doing a couple of things to continue to make my house liveable. Dinner tonight should be light/easy; maybe a lettuce wrap from Cook's Tortas. I'm not sure about tomorrow night (what's happening), but it will probably involve more housework stuff (and, annoyingly, cleaning everything because my parents are coming over on Sunday). Sunday my parents will be here, and my wife wants to go wine-tasting with them. I can focus on reds while I'm there, and I'll try to budget some calories for that. Dinner is almost always the problem. I need to track all day, have my "budget" before I eat, and figure out how the heck to stay within that budget. Work is feeling better; rather than feeling so overwhelmed, I have a bit of a plan, and I'm getting support from my supervisor/management team.
9/21: 223.6 (-2.0)/18.9 (-0.2). So far, so good. Stuck to my plan yesterday. Went with a lettuce wrap instead of bread. Lifted weights and did some HIIT on the elliptical. Basketball is happening this morning, then doing some painting/housework in the afternoon. I'm not sure what's happening for dinner, but I'm feeling focused.
9/22: 223.4 (-0.2)/18.9 (0.0). Basketball yesterday was better than it was a couple of weeks before. My shot was a little off, but I was able to move around better than I could two weeks ago. I finished painting another one of the bedrooms in my house as well. Dinner was slightly out of control, but I'm pretty sure I stayed well within calories (ate back maybe half of my exercise calories). Still feeling focused. My wife and I are eating at home tonight, so I'm expecting my weigh-in tomorrow to be... well... super boring
9/23: 225.0 (+1.6)/19.0 (+0.1). I got a little bit squirrelly last night with dinner (and after); it was more about quality (carb-heavy) than quantity. I'm also recognizing the need for a food scale (my old one broke a long time ago), especially when it's difficult to determine the number of servings in whatever I might be making (and that is fixed in a couple of mouse-clicks). I lifted weights in the morning and had a generally very busy day. I'm not feeling discouraged at all. From Friday morning to Monday morning I actually dropped 0.6 lbs, even with the big gain this morning. I think I have my routine at the gym as well - weights only on Friday and Sunday, weights and HIIT on Wednesdays, and basketball on Saturdays. If I'm feeling particularly good on a Sunday I'll do cardio, but basketball is pretty intense, and I'm often very sore after.
9/24: 225.8 (+0.8)/19.1 (+0.1). I'm not sure exactly what's going on, but I'm not going to freak out about it. I ate within calories last night, although dinner was sketchy (I'm definitely eating out too much). My food scale should be here tomorrow, so that should help. Ready for some TMI? The BM fairy hasn't visited in a while. I think this weigh-in is attributable to one thing: I'm probably full of $#!+. I'll just keep plugging away and see what happens.
9/25: 224.2 (-1.6)/18.9 (-0.2). Better. I ate within calories last night. I have a little bit of a headache this morning. I'm going to the gym tonight with my wife; I'll be lifting weights and doing HIIT. I'm feeling a Chipotle craving for lunch today (which happens a lot on gym days, it seems). Their carne asada (it's NOT their steak; it's different) is DELICIOUS, and it makes it easy for me to stay on track. My food scale showed up yesterday, though I did not need to use it last night.
9/26: 223.8 (-0.4)/18.9 (0.0). I'm feeling sick today. It started last night, and I partook in some "comfort food" that I likely would have not had otherwise. Still, I think I was "close" regarding my calories. I did not make it to the gym. I'm at work today, and I'm going to try to get to the gym tonight, even though I'm still feeling sick. I'll probably only lift weights.
9/27: 223.4 (-0.4)/18.9 (0.0). I'm feeling a little bit better today, so I decided to finish out my week at work. There are a couple of things I noticed this morning that let me know I'm "doing things right" right now. I was over in calories last night (had a couple of treats), but I actively limited my intake (portion control). A friend of mine at work gave me some great advice yesterday as I was eating something I did not really want, "You know you can throw that away, right? Or just eat the part of it you like?" My brain almost exploded. Mindless eating is my enemy, as is the voice in the back of my head (I love you Mom!) rewarding me for finishing my SECOND plate. Something changed this morning. I feel like Neo when he really started to understand the Matrix. I did not go to the gym last night (because I felt sick), but I'm going to try again today. A little NSV - I noticed that I'm getting a bit of muscle definition back in my arms/shoulders/chest.
9/28: 224.2 (+0.8)/18.9 (0.0). I had a wild night out food-wise, and I weighed in at a different time today. We'll see how things look tomorrow morning. Basketball and a trip to Ikea happening today.
9/29: 223.8 (-0.4)/18.9 (0.0). Basketball was rough yesterday. My knees were sore before I ever stepped foot on the court. Ate okay, but had dinner out with in-laws. I think I ate back about half my calories. I'm trying to remember that this is actually me reaching my goal for the challenge. I should be happy about this, so I will be :-)

09/28: 232.6 - enjoyed some pizza yesterday and got my workout in. Managed to stay within my calories quite easily and I feel like I have a much better relationship with food lately. I have self control and can actually stop myself. I enjoy chocolate everyday but I don't engorge myself on it. Today I'm going to a renaissance festival with my boyfriend and our 9 yr old daughter. The boys are staying home with a sitter and we are going to enjoy some time away. My girl is going to love it. Happy Saturday everyone π.

09/20 -193.8lbs- Starting off this round celebrating a 10lb loss since I started back on my journey!
09/21 -193.4lbs- No planned exercise. Still watching the calories though.
09/22 -193lbs- Got in some slow walking and house work yesterday. Also found out that it is really challenging to eat out and stay within calories!
09/23 -192.8lbs- Weekend went pretty well. On to Monday and a little meal planning. I don't love meal planning but I have got to stick with it.
09/24 -192.8lbs- No exercise yesterday except housework. My base calories without exercise is 1200...not easy to stick to but I should be back to walking soon. I can always find some work to do around here until then!
09/25 -191.9lbs- Calorie count was good yesterday. Did an exercise video online yesterday and will do another today. I will do some meal planning today. It is hard to stay in calorie range if I don't plan ahead.
09/26 -192.8lbs- I ate well yesterday and did a low impact cardio video and my calf muscles are so sore! I was walking, even jogging a little, several times a week so that soreness was unexpected!
09/27 -192.4lbs- I had a very stressful evening yesterday but I did NOT soothe myself with food. I went to my room to take a few deep breathes and get control of my thoughts and then I went for a walk. This is a skill I need to practice every day!

09/25 β 144 β I quit smoking on Sunday, so this is not a surprise. Iβm trying to stick to my eating plans and increase my exercise. Iβm glad Iβm here so I donβt completely go off the rails!

09/21 β 184.6 β Happy to see a drop, but I slept in this morning, so that may account for some off it. Apple festival with the grandkids this afternoon. Drinks and dinner with friends this evening. A bit over on calories but got in a 45 minute walk at the park.
09/22 β 184.6 β Holding steady. Gorgeous weather for the last day of summer! Dinner guests this evening, but logging and maintaining a deficit is easier when I can control the menu and portion sizes.
09/23 β 183.4 β Nice drop and, surprisingly, a new low. My younger son and his fiancΓ© stopped by for a couple of days on their way home from a business trip, so we wound up doing a big family dinner and sitting around the fire pit until late last night. Restaurant lunch and take-out dinner today, so I expect a sodium bounce tomorrow. A busy day at work and I wanted to spend more time with family, so I didnβt cook, log, or walk. But Iβll be back on track tomorrow!

I walked for an hour in the park next to campus and still made it to my afternoon workshop - with 3 minutes to spare. Met my calorie and logging goals. Even got a bit of the neverending grading done!
09/26 β 183.0 β Good to see the last bounce gone. Student conferences all day, but Iβm done with classes for another week. Dinner out with my husband, followed by a 35-minute walk around town. Still feeling too full, although I managed to come in under my calorie limit. Weβll see what the scale says tomorrow.
09/27 β 183.0 β TGIF! What a lovely day to be outdoors! Took a nice long walk in the park this morning, unwinding from a busy week. Early dismissal for the grandkids, so we spent the afternoon at the beach splashing through the surf and combing the sand for treasure. Logged and easily stayed below my calorie limit, so the weekend is off to a great start!
09/28 β 182.2 β Surprised by another drop, but excited to have passed the β30 lbs lostβ milestone. Spent the day doing errands and then took my mom out for a late dinner at a local Irish pub. Logging restaurant meals is always a challenge, but I think I managed to stay a bit below maintenance calories even with a pint of cider and a couple of chocolate truffles for dessert.

Whooshes like this tend to be followed by bumps up, plateaus, and then drops as weight stabilizes, so hope that it stabilizes soon! Weight day (deadlift, lunges, push-ups, inverted rows, and planks with cable rows) + 30 minute spin class, so wonβt be surprised with water retention tomorrow. 09/21 120.8 No hugs needed! I am thrilled that my weight is the same as yesterday! My usual pattern with JGM10D over the last several rounds is to have a whoosh the first day, then a 1+ lb gain the next day, a plateau for several days, then small drops to end up a little bit below the first day. Holding the drop the first day is fantastic!!!! Xtrain (spin + HIIT) for cardio today; otherwise rest. Calories good so far! 10.8 lbs to goal!
09/22 120.4 Yeah!!! Holding the whoosh so far! Xtrain this morning - got new gym shoes yesterdays which felt great for the non-cycle part of class! Feel the beginning of a mild cold coming on, so going to take it easy the rest of the day. Live littleneck clams and local garlic, so having clams and linguine for dinner tonight. (cheat day for carbs) Should still be IIFYM with preplanning. May actually make STG this round!
09/23 119.8 Woohoo!!!! Made STG of 120.0. And my lowest weight in the last 13+ years. Less than 10s to goal!!! (of course expect this may bounce up tomorrow as today is strength day, but the ups will even out!) After previous diets that restricted calories or carbs, nice to be able to fit in avocado toast and linguine IIFYM and still lose weight.
09/24 120.9 Well not unexpected given the quick drops so far and that yesterday was strength training day; still down 1 lb so far for the round which is great for 5 days in! Still have another 5 days to get back to that low and STG!
09/25 119.6 Whoosh Take 2. Back down below 120 and a new low. Strength training this am and spin class in the evening. Did not get enough sleep last night - got to bed late and woke up at 4 due to breathing issues with this lingering cold, only to get up at 6:30 - really noticed the lack of energy by the end of the day so going to get more rest tonight!!!

(and loss over the last 7 days is still on track so not worried about this bounce) Got more sleep last night, but still feeling a bit under the weather. Going out for dinner (but know the nutrition info) so going to try to enter meals earlier in the day so that I still have room for an evening snack! 09/20 127.2 I feel like I will always need to be part of this group, can it please go on forever? Although my habits are mostly squared away (12-8 eating window, track my calories, weigh in daily, that's it!), I do feel there will *never* be a day when I don't love my favorite treats and meals. Donuts, c'mon, I will heart them forever! And the only way I have found to enjoy donuts- or pizza, homemade cookies, French fries, etc.- is to stick to the habits I just outlined. I have lost 30 lbs eating everything I love, including ice cream every day. But. I. Need. This. Challenge. Accountability is everything.

09/29 127.4 Ha, basically back to where I started! I'm beginning to wonder if I honestly need to lose the "last" 3 lbs to get to my UGW. I'm 5'7", 127 lbs, down from 158, and I feel comfortable with where I am, though I'm far from having achieved my "dream" body lol. I've gotten to this point since March, so it's taken about 7 months to lose 30 lbs. Not super fast, but steady loss. My conclusion?
I DON'T NEED TO LOSE WEIGHT, I NEED TO TONE UP. That means [said in a whisper] I think I *might* be in maintenance-land, friends, but I'm scared to declare it officially.

09/24: 303.0 lbs (-1.7) ⦠whew, what a relief. A new low, if only by .1 lb, is very welcome after a ~5 lb uptick in weight! Glad to be on the correct side of zero for this challenge now. Completed Couch to 5k Week 6 Day 2 this morning⦠the last workout with walking intervals in the program. I was feeling good, so I passed on the walking in the middle and turned it into a 23 minute jog instead.

09/26: 301.4 lbs (-1.1) β¦ another new low! Sub-300 is getting closer. Completed Couch to 5k Week 6 Day 3 this morning. Workout called for a 22 minute jog, but I was able to push it to 32 minutes. Very happy with that, considering the very last workout in the program, in three weeks, aims to have you run 30 minutes. Iβve already met that goal so I can work on pace a bit now.
09/27: 302.1 lbs (+0.7) β¦ a minor uptick, likely due to the fact that I had a heavier (delicious) dinner last night. Still within my budget. Nothing to worry about.

Mowed the lawn last night (push mower; I retired my riding mower this year to get more exercise), had my C25k run this morning (Couch to 5k Week 7 Day 1 complete!) and cleaned out the garage this afternoon. Iβve started taking my daughter on runs with me and she really enjoys it. Also we tried a parent/child introduction to badminton and weβve decided to sign up. It was really good fun for both of us and a good way to get us moving on Saturday mornings. Today wonβt be very active unfortunately as I have a team building event for the office, but at least itβll be fun!

I'm in. This is my third round. Delighted with 2.5 loss in round 89. Aiming to get more daily weights in the 130's... be great to see the back of the 140's. I am going to Florida in 6 weeks time - my niece is getting married in Key West so I'm aiming for 1lb a week till then.

23rd Sept: 143.0. Was expecting this. Very poor mental health day yesterday. Didn't get washed or dressed. Stayed at home in and out of bed all day. Made brownies with my son. Ate tonnes of food. I mean , LOTS. Felt sick. Today is a new day and I feel a lot better. Lashing down the water. Aiming to get back to normal weight by Wednesday.
24th Sept: 143.5. A big jump up considering I stayed within calories yesterday and got in all my steps. However......chocolate rocky road did make up 600 of my calories PLUS I haven't gone to the toilet in 6 days and I feel so backed up and bloated. I am drinking approx. 3 litres of water every day, but obviously not enough fibre. Piloxing class tonight.
25th Sept: 142.5. Still haven't gone to the toilet, breaking out the big guns today. All bran for brekkie, beans on toast for lunch and mushy peas with my dinner. Stayed within calories yesterday but didn't hit macros. Ate 400cals of brownie . Piloxing class last night. Planning a walk with the dogs tonight when son in training. Please oh Please let me go to the toilet sometime soon!
26th Sept: 142.25. Stayed within calories and hit my steps yesterday. Really upped my fibre so hoping for some movement in the toilet department soon. Food planned for today and piloxing class tonight.
27th Sept: 142.5. TMI but I eventually went to the toilet. Went 100 over on calories yesterday and 400 of my daily calories went on chocolate rocky road. I have to learn to not give into the treats that are brought into work. Piloxing last night and again tonight. Horrible that this round ends on a weekend aghhhhh.

9/22 163.6 Not sure whatβs up with this but Iβm happy! I restarted this journey at 213... Iβm down 50 pounds! I carried my 26-pound niece around yesterday until I thought my arms would fall off. (Toddlers have bad days and I spoil her- donβt judge) But I use to carry twice that all the time.
9/23 164.7 I knew yesterday was an anomaly. That's ok, I'll see that weight for real soon enough. I really was bad about exercise last week and over the weekend. I did housework and yard work but no actual gym time or walking. My leg is definitely better but I'm waiting for the two weeks the doc suggested. So I'm off to the gym after work for a little bike ride. IT has reignited my desire to ride a real bike more. If I haven't said it lately I love this challenge! Now it's time to catch up on your journeys.
9/24 165.1 Not sure why I'm up. My sodium and calories were in line yesterday and the day before. Unless there was unexpected sodium in the sandwich I ate out on Sunday. TOM is here (a little early) so maybe it's that. Just an overnight trip to St. Louis this week, I'm coming home tomorrow afternoon. IT's beautiful and I know I said I was going to wait to walk until Friday but instead I'm going today.
9/25 No Scale Still feeling a little puffy so probably not down. I did walk yesterday. Three miles along the river, it was fantastic! I want to walk again today but I think it would be smart to let the leg have a break. I am going to the gym to do weights though. We'll see what the scale says tomorrow. At least the weather is cooperating.
9/26 166.7 Sodium. Why did I have a turkey sandwich for dinner? I was over yesterday on calories by more than 300 calories. No biggie in the big scheme of things. I hope to lose the water weight before the end of the round. Back in the office today and we are ordering lunch out. I looked up the restaurant (Tropical Smoothie Cafe). I was excited because it looked like there would be good options. The calories were workable but then I looked down at sodium (my nemesis) and guess what they're all very high. I hate that. More than one item had over 2000mg. MFP suggests 2300 for the day. ARGH!!!
9/27 165.4 The coaster went up and now it's going down. Oatmeal and fruit for breakfast instead of a breakfast biscuit. It's the little things. I took my dog for a walk in the woods yesterday and it was glorious! My leg is almost normal. I'm going to go every other day for a week or two to ease back into the routine. I can tell you walking two days this week has already improved my mental state. Happy Friday

09/20 135.3 I have an early meeting today to prep for so weighing three hours before I usually do so I think this number is probably higher than usual, which Iβm not mad about! Should be a good day.
09/21 135.0, going to a beach yoga class and then just having a day at the house catching up on chores. I will be meal prepping some for next week to get ahead a bit.
09/22 134.8, New low and on the other side of 135. Iβm going to the gym for 50 minutes class today and have dinner at a Mexican restaurant so might be up over the next few days but will really focus on water to combat the sodium/sunburn.
09/23 134.6, typical Monday with lunch leftovers from Friday, tennis lesson after work, and shrimp salad for dinner.
09/24 134.6, need to focus more on drinking water throughout the day, instead of overdoing it at night trying to get as close to goal as possible.
09/25 134.3, went out with a friend to celebrate a new job and drank my calories instead of eating. Stayed within calories, but going I am to limit drinking to 2 days for the rest of the week since I just donβt feel good after drinking anymore (tolerance is way down and not worth the headache the next morning).
09/26 134.5, going to a barre class and meals are prepped so hoping to stay in the 134s through the end of the round.
09/27 134.5, sore from barre class so will stick with an elliptical workout today. Heavy emphasis on water today since only drank 3 glasses yesterday.
09/28 134.5, busy day tonight with an engagement party, errand (including buying gift) and gym

9/20: 213.0 - Not enough sleep, but feel a bit better. Walked a few times yesterday and will try for same today.
9/21: 212.0 β Nicely surprised after a high cal dinner and LNS yesterday! Got in plenty of movement today, though most of it was cleaning, lol. My first weekend (Fri / Sat) testing high cal/carb stacking so fingers crossed all goes well. Results tomorrow and Monday!
9/22: 213.8 - Obviously, still got some tweaking to do, lol .. Friday was nutritious and filling, but yesterday was pure tasty and empty!! (on top of little sleep and a drink both nights). But overall, quite happy w/ my progress the past 10 days ("restarted" @ 221.0 on 9/12/19). Having a great time this weekend with no regrets! Will try again w/ better choices in another 7-10 Days. Onwards and downwards!
9/23: DNW - Day 1 of 100 Days not starting well at all!! After an emotional break this morning, all I want to do is eat my feelings!! Eyeballing the Halloween candy everywhere, I've only been able to resist bingeing by sitting on my hands and keeping it liquid all day! Hoping some leftover lamb and potatoes for dinner, with MAYbe a small dessert will be enough to pacify.

09/20- 206: Woohoo! So thankful to be going down! I had a dentist apt yesterday for a filling and my teeth are still sensitive to everything, so we will see how that goes. I will be going to Greek Fest tonight and hopefully the LA Fair tomorrow with my boyfriend. I'm getting pretty good at being good, just hope I don't mess up.

09/23- 208.2: Yeah I messed up. My weight stayed the same for Saturday which was great and then that day I went to my boyfriends. Didn't really eat much or anything bad and even had a healthy meal at his house. We went to the fair that night and I had a beer, some wine, and a couple small fried things. The following day at his house I had a healthy breakfast and we did a lot of walking. I might have messed up during dinner at my house last night. I'm so mad because I eat healthy all week and really push myself, but as soon as it's the weekend it turns into cheat days and "it's ok you've been working so hard." No! I want to stop doing that. I'm sick of working hard all week and then gaining it all back over the weekend. I'm more than my starting weight for this round and I really feel so defeated when this happens. Think I just have to cut back on going out or feeling pressured into having foods I shouldn't
09/24- 206.2: Woohoo, going back down! So happy I pushed myself yesterday. Ate healthy all day, made some baked salmon with veggies for dinner and went to the gym last night. Didn't have as much water as I wanted to, but still had a decent amount. I also gave my bf crap and told him no more cheat days and how I can't keep falling off the wagon every time, so he's on board. And we've also been pushing each other to go to the gym, so I'm really thankful for that. Hope to keep this going
09/25- 206.2: No loss, but no gain so I got that going for me. Thinking it might have to do with me having shake and bake chicken legs (drumsticks) last night with mashed cauliflower from Trader Joe's and some crab salad. I didn't have time to cook last night, so I jumped at the opportunity of my mom cooking. I love shake and bake, but I should have taken the time to make something myself and a little healthier. I did get in the gym again last night and pushed myself. Also did some strength along with cardio, so let's hope my arms don't hate me today. Need to up my water intake still and keep pushing.
09/26- 206: I feel like I'm starting to get stuck and was hoping to see a little more progress. Healthy breakfast, lunch and dinner. For dinner I made shrimp scampi with steamed veggies. I think I messed up a little when I got home I was so hungry I started munching on some rice I saw on the stove my mom made. A couple harmless bites turned into a few bites I also decided not to go to the gym last night because I wanted a rest day and was hoping to use that time to play video games with my boyfriend since he was home and had a day off. H ended up knocking out and it got too late for me to go, but I'll be going again today. Also starting off strong with drinking water and then the rest of the day it's like I forget. I doubt I'll reach my Challenge Goal Weight, but hoping to at least leave 206.
09/27- 205.6: Woohoo! F You 206! It's like I'm moon walking towards my goal, but in baby step moon walks lol. I baked salmon and veggies for dinner again and I feel like I always lose weight after having salmon. I got ready to go to the gym last night and was about to walk out the door and felt like crap. I rushed to the bathroom and decided not to go to the gym. Even if I pushed myself to go while feeling not so good I would have gotten 10 mins of cycling in and then peaced out. I do plan to go today, I don't want to make a habit of not going. Also annoyed with my bf, he was giving me crap about not going and that just put me in a sour mood. I know he means well, but I'm annoyed. And he will prob ruin all my progress this weekend, but I'm going to try my best.
