I might have made a slight error in judgement.
The plan was to spend this weekend working on Assignment 3 - my last assignment for my current course. I have a presentation on Wednesday and it is due next Friday.
On my list of Things To Do were 2 items - a lot more than 2, but 2 I thought I could take care of today.
1. Take my orthotics back to my podiatrist because they are falling apart! I did that. They say they'll fix them.
2. Take my desk glasses to my optometrist to ask about a set of fine cracks in the coating on the right lens. I've had that before. Years ago I was talked into coating on my glasses, and sure enough, I ended up with a set of fine cracks in it. Took them back, had them redone, fine cracks appeared again, had them redone without coating and didn't have any further problems with cracking. I've refused coating ever since, till this set of glasses. They convinced me that coating has come a long way and that there would be no problems ... but here we are.
They say it often has to do with either heat itself or change of temperature like going out on a chilly day and then into a warm place. There's apparently some contracting and expanding and thus the coating cracks.
So ... they needed my frames this weekend to get the right shape for the new lenses, and I agreed ... and a short time later realised what I had agreed to. I've got a weekend working on Assignment 3 wearing my old desk glasses or my newer full-range progressives. Neither are really good, although I'm finding the old desk glasses marginally better.
In a nutshell, I've agreed to have a raging headache all weekend. Won't that be fun!!
I love it when my logic and reasoning steps out for a coffee at a critical moment.

Carol in GA I think the first post I made last month, I signed off with Tina in CA. That seems like so long ago.
On men: Mine is not empathetic toward me, at least not anymore. He was not like that before he got "burnout" from his last job. He stayed too long and he turned mean and nasty to everyone. He ultimately left and took a year off and did get better, but went back to a different company this summer. It was too early. He was so anxiety ridden about going back that he got shingles two days before his first day there. He needed more time, but he is paranoid about not having enough money for retirement. Perhaps he wants a huge yacht and hasn't told me. Otherwise, unless there is a major medical issue, we should be fine. But that's a big unknown and why we are both trying to keep ourselves healthy and fit. But the burnout is still there and it can be a big problem.
However, he's not emotionally unavailable to me either. It's kind of strange. He will listen to me if I need to vent about something, but he doesn't really console either. I probably made him that way. I am too independent, if you ask some. I've always just assumed I'd have to take care of myself and I do. Maybe I need to let him do stuff just for the sake of doing it? It's something I struggle with.
Anyway, I am trying to learn if he picks on me because he wants to hurt me or just to get my attention, so I can change the way I react. The problem is he chooses the wrong times to pick on me and I blow up...like when I have a migraine. We had a very difficult past year or two, but we keep moving forward.

How about these for cinnamon buns?
(We didn't buy any)
I've washed my hair and we are off for a bit of pre dinner dancing. I am sooooo tired. Really. But happy.
Tonight we set sail for Oslo. The cabaret is a famous ABBA tribute band. Love a sing a long!!!!

We are open from Easter til Christmas. It is a great place to work.I had been a stay at home mom(busting butt there)and hubby thought I needed to get out and get a job,be social.I applied at several stores and no response.Decided to stop by the farm, there was a tiny stand then.I have been here ever since.Met tons of sweet people and lost quite a few, since a lot of them were older.

Hi Gals,
Debby – is the farm right there? Do you do any of the farming or just work in the stand… I have to say from your pictures the stand doesn’t look tiny. My closest farm stand is 40+ minute drive, but we do have a weekly farmers market.
Machka – I just went ah ha! When you mentioned that one of the early carers for your DH was someone who clicked with your way of doing things… could you reach out to her about doing side work to help with your filing etc…

The farm is behind our stand and behind the home of the owners. We have an acre of asparagus that we pick and sell every spring.Tomatoes, summer squashes, okra, cucumbers and assorted peppers are also grown here. And yes,I do get to help plant and pick.Virginia apples are just starting to come in and it smells amazing here. I want to go home, make biscuit dough, make homemade apple pie filling and bake individual pies.

Happy Friday, ladies ~
I woke with a bit more energy this morning and felt like the bug that caught me has run it's course. But trying to catch up with everyone's photos and updates, etc., over the last several days feels overwhelming. For me, the month of October is busier and more expensive than December.
Between my family and friends and my BF's, there are twelve birthdays (and we just got word of two funerals). And we're planning on taking a mini-vaca in the 3rd week of the month. So my focus is on upping physical exercise (and losing weight, of course), attending calendared events and working on personal projects. For now, I'll just say a few general words . . . . .
Welcome to the newbies
You've found a wonderfully chatty group of women who will support and commiserate with you along your journey!
To those that are losing weight, upping exercise, increasing their health or maintaining it. . .
BRAVO LADIES! Stay the course! Don't quit!!! Keep at it, p-l-e-a-s-e! You are the inspiration for the rest of us!
For those that are experiencing a loss, a challenge with one's work, spouse, child(ren) or at home, etc. . .
I wish knew the exact words you need to hear to ease the pain. I'm sending hugs, lots of them, and the reminder that what you spend your time on and respecting yourself are the keys to maintain sanity!
Happy Birthday to all that have an October birthday.
If you go for the sweet stuff, relish a small taste so you can support your health goals

dear Rita! i know that extreme changes in weather can contribute to mood. We went from mild late summer temps if 55° lows and 77° highs to temps suddenly 20° less at night and about the same for highs. Plus heavy clouds and anywhere from rain threatening to actually happening with some vigor. I immediately started to edge toward torpor and hibernation preparation (meaning “eat recklessly and with abandon, then take a nap”). Since I’m a gastric bypass parient, this meant eating ¾ of my dinner out instead of half, taking it home and eating it for breakfast since it was “only a little bit”. Sound familiar anyone?
Caught myself after a couple of days of this, and decided the incentive to get up and move was to teach myself to cook Iaxacan style. So far I have made My Own Salsa Verde and My Own Salsa Roja. I am eating some this morning in Huevos (eggs) Divorciada (splutsville!). That’s egg with verde on one side and roja on the other. Mexican food seems to have a sense of humor too.
My over-eating has stopped because I’m being mindful again, and I’ve doubled my step count, since catching up with laundry became imperative after too many sloppy cooking accidents.
I’m on page 7, and adding catching up to my Program for Dithering Old Farts.

This evening it was touch and go with falling out with DH. Luckily we saved it in time. It always happens when we have had a few drinks over dinner .
The ABBA show was great and quite a few of the audience got up and danced, including us.
We also managed some ballroom.
Now I just hope I can catch up on my sleep.
Tomorrow the priority is the Munch museum. We have two days in Oslo. Sunny, but cold is forecast. Yeah!!
Much love, Heather xxxxxxxx on the high seas.4 -

Ok I dreamed about something I want to bake. I am taking a spice cake, and cubing up yams, and apple pie filling. I will drain the yams and make into a syrup. Then I will swirl the Apple pie filling into the batter, and toss the yams cubes in. After its baked I will mix the syrup from the yams and some of the Apple pie mixture and put on top, with some walnuts. How do you make a crumble for the top? Do you think this will taste good? Should I reduce some of the liquid in the cake making?

When I say "we" went on a hike. This is who my hiking partner is: Aki the dog. He's either a Xoloitzcuintli or a Dachshund/Chihuahua. Take your best guess. He's a rescue and there was a Xolo breeder in the area, but no one reported him missing. He loves hiking.8 -
Rebecca - Ok lets see, cooked yams? canned yams? apple pie filling--- homemade? canned???
Kim0 -
Rebecca - and what consistency are you headed for? a crisp like? a cake with a crumb topping? more spoonable instead of cutting it into pieces - think a bread pudding?????1

Just sitting quietly reading before going to bed. Nothing to add to the comments already made by others 😂
Enjoy whatever remains of your Friday. Mine is almost done. My duvet is calling! 😂

Hi to everyone here from the hill country of central/south Texas!
I'm new to the MFP community. I've been keeping my head down, logging daily for the past 20 days and not going beyond that, but need to do better. I need to lose at least 50 lbs (prefer 65) and am trying to do it with a Keto eating plan. Hubby and I chose Keto because he's Type 2 Diabetic, overweight and has high BP as well. Keto was suggested by his Dr. as a way to get his blood sugar under control and in just a short time, it's working! We both also need to lose weight to reduce sleep apnea - so lots of health reasons. :-)
My fear is that my recent diagnosis of breast cancer will derail ketosis and/or that I won't be able to stay on the plan during planned chemo (starting soon). I'm already struggling to eat enough fat grams in a day, but have lost 9 lbs, so...Yay?
If anyone has tips on keeping those fat grams up - let me know.
The biggest challenge for me will be fighting the fatigue I hear is inevitable and forcing myself to exercise. For one thing, I have always detested planned exercise and hate going to the gym. However, I live in Texas, so we don't have severe winters. Chilly days are more like it, so I can bundle up and walk (I hope).
If any of you have had success with at home exercise, I welcome ideas. Dance, stretching, yoga or ???
This seems like a nice group of supportive people. I look forward to receiving and lending support.

Romwriter57 - Exercise at home is my thing too. I also hate the gym and live where the weather is mild most of the year. I have a little "home gym" with adjustable dumbbells that go from 5 pounds to 25 pounds (we have heavier ones too, for the mister). I also have some smaller, non-adjustable dumbbells. I have mats for floor work, bands, and I use my body weight a lot. We have a bench too. It's all very compact and does the job very well. There is a workout plan called 21 Day Fix that is 30 minute a day workouts. It's on Beachbody.com. She shows you modifications for your fitness levels. There is an eating plan too, but I never followed it. I like to do that my own way. Also, 30 years ago when I started home fitness, I watched Denise Austin's shows and I still use her exercises. Now she has an online program that may work for you. I think she's in her 60s now and she looks fantastic.
I also walk/run and ride a bike. We go for hikes on weekends sometimes or even just walk to/from dinner for a little extra calorie burn.
The key to outdoors exercise is to get the right clothing for the weather conditions. Don't have a rain jacket? Buy one. Columbia has cheap, but effectives ones. Feet hurt? Spend the money and get good walking shoes. They will last a long time and support your feet and knees. Go to a running store and ask them to watch you walk. They will let you know what shoes are best for your gait. Don't be afraid to spend the money. It's sooooo worth it.
Once you start doing it, it's easier to get motivated because you will notice the difference.
Food with higher fat: I made protein balls with toasted coconut to replace the oats and they are pretty darn high in fat and taste delicious. https://blog.myfitnesspal.com/chocolate-peanut-butter-bites/
Also, what is cool about keto is that you can eat cheese!!! Just remember one ounce is 100 calories, so don't over do it.
Other keto fats: nuts and nut butters. Olives, avocados, sunflower seeds, coconut.
The only tried and true way I have found to lose weight is calories in vs. calories out. Other people have reported much success with keto. It just wasn't for me.
I hope this helps.

SuziQ – I have two dear friends who are trans and I have never in my life met such wonderful people.
Did the water aerobics class today. The plan for tomorrow is to do a Brooke Benton Butts and Gutts DVD.
I did order the tablet cover that I liked since Vince asked another vendor if his fit the 727 and the vendor said that it did and they would update their website to reflect this. I just got another response from my vendor who said that it does not fit the 727 tablet but didn’t state what the difference was. So I ordered it. It’ll be real funny if it does fit. I tend to think this vendor just can’t be bothered to check and is just telling me what the writeup on Amazon says. So we shall see…..
M – I can’t help believing that God put that carer in your home because He knew that you needed someone like her
Connie KY – which colleges are you going to go to?
Drkatie – YEEESS for the paid off mortgage. Are you going to have a mortgage burning party?
Heather – I’m so sorry your trip was cancelled, but at least they’re giving you a refund
Yippee – I just found out that all of the gyms that I go to (except I don’t know about the Y in FL, but that shouldn’t be a problem) accept Silver & Fit. Now to get a supplement that includes that. I know that BC/BS of NC does but I don’t know about the other things they have. I do have an appt to talk to an advisor about which supplement to go on on the 18th.
After exercise stopped at the Salvation Army, found a large bowl that I think I can use for our Christmas dinner, then to Big Lots who still doesn’t have Vince’s bread, then the Green Room for a bit because one gal hasn’t been there for a year (she was sick) and she feel intimidated by the changes. So since it’s only 2 blocks from the soup kitchen I stopped there for her. Unfortunately, there weren’t any calls. Went to the soup kitchen where I was in the kitchen. That “mean” lady wasn’t there so in a way I’m sorry I wasn’t serving because it’s so much nicer when she isn’t there. Home and in the pool, then went to Aldi since Jess needs her passport and I thought I’d have to send it and some other things to her but she needs it asap so we’ll probably expedite it. She again mentioned that she wanted a care package so mom is going to make her rum balls and send her the things she was going to donate but I think she might want, then dinner, now here. Tomorrow, weight in. Aldi has spaghetti and butternut squash on sale so I got some more. Butternut can be frozen so I’ll do that and will have the spaghetti first. Then went to Hamricks but the sneakers I liked they didn’t have in my size. Not surprising since I have a fairly common size. I did ask them to see if any other store had them in my size, but I tend to doubt it. I would like another pair of sneakers since I need to start with new ones
Welcome everyone new!
Finished “Women Rowing North” last night. I couldn’t sleep so I got up and read. Really liked that book
Rom – I’m so sorry to read about your cancer. There are quite a few ladies on here who are cancer survivors and I’m sure they can give you much better advice than I could give you
Tina – can you describe your weights more to me? I’d be interested in one set of weights rather than the three I have now. Plus, the one can go higher than what I have now.
