WOMEN AGES 50+ FOR OCTOBER 2019

Did a rebound fit DVD today. The plan for tomorrow is to do a 10Pound Slimdown DVD
Tracey – that woman who is 101 has a wonderful attitude. She’ll live many more years with an attitude towards age like she has. Question: what do you do if a resident who shouldn’t be in the café comes in and what if you don’t know that the resident shouldn’t be there? What happens?
Pip – please let us know how Yogi is doing. They’ve been together a long time.
The soup kitchen today. Since I’ll be in the area, I’ll probably stop at the Green Room since they’re having school showings and they don’t have anyone to work the box office. Same for after the soup kitchen, but I’m not sure for how long. I’ll stay until the last school show but I would think it would be a bit earlier.
My neighbor asked me about a large planter for on top of a column. I personally think she’s hoping that’ll get her mother back into ceramics. I found a lady who has one, I’m not sure if it’ll work, I’ve asked the lady to send me a pic. It’s about $20 in bisq and she’ll have to paint it, but the place we take ceramics will fire it for a few dollars for their paint and firing, which isn’t bad.

Regarding future optimism: Something I do, which someone else pointed out, strikes at the heart of optimism in my life. Someone asks me how long I've been married, and my answer is "11 years next June." Someone asks me how old I am (very seldom these days... ) and I tell them, "I'll be 60 on my next birthday." I never believe things are going to end that I love (such as being married and being alive) so it's always what's next, not what's now. Not saying anyone should take it up, just saying it's a core piece of who I am. I liked it that the centenarian said, "I'll be 102 my next birthday." Even if she was mistaken, she's still looking forward...
And my CEO believed in my proposal. Now to get an appt with the foundation's executive director...
Later, y'all,

Pip- sending hugs for you Kirby and yogi I hope he’s not too lonely, he’ll probably be very happy to see you and Kirby when you get home3

Tracey – What a nice story! I hope I am so loved too. I just live too far away for visitors. It’s just me and the mister.
Pip – That makes me so sad. One big reason I don’t have more pets. I had to do that 3 times and it’s just too hard.
Plumbing issues at a rental property. I fear we will have to dig up the driveway. I’ll know more later in the day after the plumber shoves the camera in the main line. I’m in the process of hiring a property manager. I am just sick of managing them myself. I can’t even plan a lunch with a friend these days without a rental issue coming up, let alone go on an international vacation.
As to that lunch, I’m off to meet the train. We are meeting midway. I thought of cancelling to deal with the plumbing issue, but there really isn’t anything I can do and it has been very challenging to find a time my friend and I can meet this year.4 -

At last my friend rang for a chat. Poor thing! She is on very heavy dose antibiotics. What a saga she has had. She is angry and thinking of sueing the hospital. She has asked to see her notes as a first step. One blunder after another.
I am in the process of arranging to go to see her by train in a couple of weeks. Fortunately she is now at home and going in for a check on Monday.
I didn't approve of the weather today, so did rowing and biking instead. 380 calories.
It was my signature Mushroom Risotto for dinner, so I'm glad I got the extra calories in.

I am home, and have a bunch of pneumonia/flu meds to take several times a day. Air travel is a risky venture this time of year. One of my grandsons had a horrible runny nose the whole time I was there, & it might be what hit me. So far I seem to be fighting mostly sinus stuff. I am blessed to have a wonderful doctor who is taking good care of me. I hope I'm past the contagious stage when DS, DDIL and DGS get here for their visit.

I have just started exploring the community section of mfp. I've been posting my food for three years. I'm excited because my son and his wife closed on their first house today.8

Pip-I know it’s not the same, but when foxy lost a puppy, she mourned terribly.I got her a stuffed baby, she loved it and treated it like hers for a while. Then she just sort of got on with her doggie life.Maybe if Yogi starts showing signs of loneliness and moping, you could think about it.Some told me not to because she could become too attached to an object .But it was so sad watching her go through it,I had to take the chance.Plus she has Vern and us.

Welcome knitski2002!
KarenNY ... I was on my treadmill again tonight and I did much better eating/exercise-wise today ... I'll pick up a mileage challenge with you if you find one you like.
Katla ... hope you feel better soon!
Heather ... you didn't "approve" of the weather today?
Kelly ... I have absolutely no doubt in my mind that you'll be a loved and optimistic person in your later years!
Lisa ... most of my restless nights are centered around my son and his moodiness. Drives me crazy that just an "I'm ok" text can change MY demeanor ... it's just a part of loving though.
Michele ... I was at an estate sale today where the homeowner was apparently a crafter. One area of her house was devoted to ceramics and I immediately thought of you. So much bisque ware for sale at really low prices. Of course, there was lots of finished pieces available too. A lot of the once again popular lit ceramic Christmas trees.
Lanette ... restarted my membership with Misfit Markets organic produce. First box comes next Wednesday. Both husband and I agreed that we need to focus on more plant-based meals and we did enjoy most of the boxes last year. When you were all discussing hobbies, I thought I mostly like to research recipes and cook ... not a great hobby for an overweight person. On the other hand, researching healthy recipes is one way to still do what I love. So I'll keep you posted.

Lisa - I like the look forward attitude, I may adopt that.
Kelly - what a busy weekend you have planned.
Michele - all of our residents meet with our dietician in the first couple of days of being admitted. She assesses them and if they are fit for our Early Bird Cafe they are added to a list. If they are not on the list and show up we direct them to the main dining room.
Today was our monthly birthday celebration for all residents that celebrate a birthday in October. Two more are now 100. I think this makes 4 in residence that have reached that milestone.

I just saw this and thought it was appropriate for the discussions this week.

NYKaren – glad to hear your hubby is doing well
Knitski – welcome! You wouldn’t happen to be Polish?
Tracey – do the residents have to sign in to get into the café? Is that how you know if someone shouldn’t be there?
volunteered at the soup kitchen then at the Green Room for a bit. Had to go pick up a piece of glass for the picture I made for Colby for Christmas, then home

Hugs to Pip and Kirby.
I was feeling extremely proud of myself for getting my porch cleaned off and my Fall decorations out. Then I log on here and see someone has finished their Christmas cards! Good thing my next online book study is on procrastination. Looks like it’s right on time.
My dear father fell down his back steps yesterday and broke his jaw. Right now the plan is a soft diet and ibuprofen for the pain. He will see the doctor on Monday for follow up. He is 90 and was just starting to feel better after a month long bout of bronchitis. Bless his sweet heart. It’s so hard to see him struggle.

Katia-sorry you are sick. Glad you have a doctor who will actually treat you. Seems like the "stuff" is going around earlier this year.
Welcome to Knitski2002-that is exciting news about your son gettin first house. I logged food on MFP off and on for several years without checking out the community. I discovered I missed a ton of useful information. This is an active group (hard to keep up with!), but very supportive and positive. Have read some very interesting discussion on any number of different topics.
Had to take some vacation time today or I would lose it (I really need to get a week off, but with budget time is tough to do). Went to grocery today and came home and cleaned out flower bed and garage. Working full-time it is sometimes hard to fit in some of the extra tasks that need done and I don't want to pay someone to do everything. Pleased with my efforts. Fit in a nice walk this evening.
Knee and piriformis still bothersome off and on. Looking forward to physical therapy assessment Tuesday. Hopefully they can show me some stuff that will help get this left leg in line.
Tracey in Edmonton - love the cartoon you posted.
Have a good rest of today/good start to Saturday,

Floyd was well loved, this was very thoughtful. On the left, from a former coworker, Kayla , in the middle from work and on the right from our Vet.
Yogi did okay by himself, nothing destroyed .

The staff has a list of residents that can eat there. If they aren’t on the list they are redirected. We are a very close knit home so we know all of the residents by name. For new people like me, all of the residents walkers or wheelchairs are tagged with their name so we can double check as well. For the most part the residents that can’t eat in there are unable to get around with out a healthcare aide and wouldn’t show up anyway. We do have one resident that is quite mobile that can’t eat there that shows up regularly, one of us just takes her up to the main dining room.3 -

I think that's a great idea actually, thanks for the thought. having gone thru this before, I've known that you have to try to act normal around the surviving pet because they can feel your pain and depression, they sense it. so far he's doing ok. but going to keep a close watch

DD doing corn maze with a friend tonight. This weekend will be spent cleaning out the paddock and putting down recycled asphalt to try to control the mud at least a little. Saw cardiologist on Wednesday. He wants me to lose weight and watch blood pressure. What a surprise. Still working on financing for roof. DD's credit union may do a home equity loan even though it is a manufactured home.
Barbara - Our home is a triple-wide set on a cement pad. It was built in 2007 but roof was improperly installed.
Pip - So sorry you lost Floyd.
Everyone take care,Sue in WA6 -
Drkatie - sending your father every healing thought possible.

NYKaren brava for staying detached and professional, too bad she hasn't matured. Thankful your DH is resting safe at home after his surgery.
Lisa, hooray for optimism. Your CEO's confidence in you is so very very well deserved.
Amber I had to look three times at that candle, kept thinking it was a carton of pumpkin cheesecake ice cream
Katla hope the meds do their job and quickly!
Welcome knitski2002. Would you let us know what you'd like to be called and your general locale?
Kay ((hugs)) and comfort to your dad and you.
Tumble's barking (surprise!) woke Joe. He got up to let her out to chase the chipmunk off the porch when he walked into water spraying out from the new water heater's shutoff valve. Tumble wasn't barking at a critter, she was barking at the spray. He called me and fortunately I was en route to the bathroom so I heard the phone ringing. If I'd still been dancing I'd never have heard it. I called our neighbor the plumber and he beat me home by fifteen minutes. Meanwhile Joe emptied out the floor of the pantry and tried to towel up the water while it kept spraying out. Plumber doesn't know why the brand new valve failed, but replaced it with a more flexible model, just in case. No charge for the after hours emergency and new valve assembly. Thanks, neighbor! Thanks Joe! Atta gal Tumble, heroine of the day!
Lighter, lovelies!

Hello everyone, back again after being inactive for afew years. Need some motivation and gentle prodding to get back in shape. Looking forward to being back in this group again and getting back on track for a healthier lifestyle.5

Day 1 of our 3-day cycling event is done. We're organising, not riding.
Yesterday we drove the route of the first event. All good. Then I studied for my exam a bit.
Today we drove the route of the second event. Mostly good. Then we held the first event. All good! Despite the wind and some rain. Now I've got to study some more.
I did get a 2 km run in this afternoon ... a bit of exercise.
I am getting a bit tired of all the driving. I drove over 400 km last weekend and I'll have another 600 or 700 km this weekend.

Day 2 of our 3-day cycling event is done! A number of heavy rain and hailstorms went through but fortunately most of them missed the riders. But I ended up driving through rain and hail so heavy I could barely see the road.
Nevertheless, today is done and now I need to study some more.
Machka in Oz2 -
Machka - do you have to organize marshalls, medals, refreshments, signage and everything?
Windy night. I didn't sleep too well. Brain active. I had a good book to read and a spare room, so I survived.
