@StatChicBayes - curried pumpkin soup and shrimp sounds wonderful! Care to share the recipe?!
@LisaW57 the recipe is available through Google Books https://books.google.com/books?id=muk9f6yjqYsC&lpg=PA39&ots=8tTT9IYr5v&dq=Not Afraid of flavor Curried Butternut Soup Ben Barker&pg=PA39#v=onepage&q=Not Afraid of flavor Curried Butternut Soup Ben Barker&f=false
It's from "Not Afraid of Flavor Recipes from Magnolia Grill by Ken and Karen Barker.
While the recipe calls for butternut squash, pumpkin or sweet potatoes work equally well. I also cut the pumpkin in quarters to roast @ 350 without any butter to cut back on fat calories. I used half a pumpkin for soup and the other for pie so half the pumpkin worked out to making a half recipe for reference.
I had pretty spicy fresh curry powder so omitted the jalapeño or serrano chile peppers (also wanted kids to eat it :-)
I used light coconut milk to reduce fat
For the garnish, we had used up all the whipped cream, so just mixed the chutney into a whole milk thick yogurt (I use Siggi's but a Greek yogurt would be fine) - The whipped cream garnish would be lighter and more likely to float if you care about presentation.
I increased the shrimp to boost the protein.
Other modifications - I forget to get an orange and left out the toasted coconut to cut back on calories; used a sherry vinegar (more mellow) in place of cider vinegar! Also blended it in a Vitamix, so skipped the step of putting it through a food mill.
It's a wonderful soup and not that hard to whip up!5 -

12/02 394.8 +3.4 lbs. – Well not as bad as it could have been. Still up 5 pounds from the end of round 96. But glad only 3.4 pounds up this round. I am not going to squabble about it because it was expected and today is a new day. Setting my goals up based on the days left in challenge and same for weight goal. My weight goal is simple and that is to lose few pounds or so – Anything thing 388 point? Not going for anything huge this month because that would be unrealistic. I do want to get solidly in the 380’s this month and possibly hit the 370’s also before year end. I hope everyone had a great weekend and we are ready to kick butt round 97!! :flowerforyou:

My journey … "I May Not Be Where I Want To Be, but I’m Not Where I Use To Be!"In 2003 Weighed over 600 lbs.My highest weight was 611 in 2003. Weight in 2004 before weight loss surgery was 580. Lowest weight after surgery was 302 in 2007. "I May Not Be Where I Want To Be, but I’m Not Where I Use To Be!"
In 2005 Weighed under 400 lbs.
In 2007 lowest weight after surgery 302lbs
I joined MFP on March 27, 2010 weighing in at 388 pounds. I was re-gaining weight and stumbled up on it while trying to get back on track. I was determined never to see 400+ on that scale again for me.
I have been morbidly obese all my life. I have a lifetime of mental and physical scars from obesity. In October 2004 I had Gastric Bypass surgery. WLS (Weight Loss Surgery) was the best gift that I could and did give to myself.
Between 2008 and 2010 I gradually gained back 80 of almost 300 pounds lost initially after weight loss surgery. I never reached my goal weight of 200 pounds. I still managed to keep off over 65 percent of the weight I lost which is very good and I am very proud of my accomplishments since 2004. It has literally changed my life for the better on all levels. I am here to lose re-gained weight and to reach my initial goal weight. I am in no hurry. I am taking this one day at a time and I am in it for the long haul.
Surgery did not fix the head. It is a good tool and the best gift I have given to myself, but it was not the easy way out as many people think. Once the honeymoon period is over after the WLS it is up to the patient to keep the weight off.
On August 29, 2011-- I was admitted to Intensive Out Patient Eating Disorder Program to learn how to manage my binge eating disorder effectively. The program is wonderful indeed and will be instrumental in me reaching all of my goals. The focus of this program was how to eat and not diet. Weight loss was not a goal of the program. I actually gained 20 pounds in program. But I had to get thru a lot of stuff and my the time I was released I had stopped gaining. I was discharged from program on December 3, 2011.
My tool is still working for me today. My head is still the issue. SO the struggle continues. I will never beat myself up again. I fight the fine fight faithfully and positively everyday. Because that is what will get me to my goals one day. Even though it may not show up on the scale every day -- Everyday I make progress one way or another just by showing up, waking up and trying.
Giving up is not an option for me. Perseverance, Patience, & Positive thinking will help me reach my goals…… and the same is true for you too!! We have the power within us.Round 64 - SW 373.4 EW 369 (-4.4)

11/29 60.7kg was over calories yesterday (can't blame Thanksgiving as I live in Malawi 🙄🇲🇼) but will not be today because I'm going to be too busy! Gym done and how I'm looking forward to the weekend...
11/30 59.55kg. Getting back under 60kg is great. Had a lovely night last night with my bestie but not enough sleep! Going to keep busy today so I don't snack.
12/01 60.1kg. Went a little over calories again last night. No real change in the last 6 weeks. Will keep busy today and focus.
12/02 59.95kg. Mission to keep under 60kg the whole week. Gym done already

Round 97
Please join us! Starting on 11/29 JUST GIVE ME 10 DAYS, we will begin Round 97
Anyone can join us at anytime during the round.
Join us! If we stay mindful we can do this, you can do this.
Welcome back past members, welcome new members, let's keep each other accountable for another 10 days!
Here is what you do: Post your daily weight and add little comments along the way of how your day went. Post everyday to let us know how you're doing! Copy and paste the days in your response--tell us how much you lost and other non scale victories (NSV) you'd like to share.
FOR NEWBIES - I find it easiest to copy the dates to a document or note in my device and edit it each morning. Then copy and paste to the message board. MFP will return you to the spot on the board where you left off on your previous visit which is nice to know if you like to scan all of the posts.

JUST GIVE ME 10 DAYS ~|~ Round 97 (round 29 for me ) I'm in for another round, can't believe how many I've completed already! I need to continue losing my cheeky pre-Brexit weeks holiday gain. Christmas and the celebration season is looming and I'd like to get down to 131 before then; must really dig in!
Female age 61 5' 4”
Achieved goal weigh of 125lb in summer 2016 by losing 66lb and have gradually gained between 7 and 11 since then; I don't want to gain any more, but would like to get back to my goal weight – I'm working at it – it's a permanent way of life !
Goal aim to stick with good habits: be mindful of what I eat & drink and keep walking. I'd like to see 132s this round.End of round 69 134.2 lbs

Day/Weight/Comment
11/29 133.6 – that's better! 3.61 miles walked; Granny day with my two lovely toddler grandchildren – we went to soft play, climbing up & sliding down etc.!
11/30 134.2 – 10.12 miles walked yesterday. I know this up is due to eating very late last night; went out for a curry after a drink out with friends, but planned for it and ate super low calories earlier in the day which meant that I was just under calories for the day as best as I could gauge.
12/01 132.8 – yippee! Challenge now is to stay in this number 'til the end of the round! 7.92 miles walked yesterday.
12/02 132.2 – whoohoo!! Superb! Didn't expect this, but I'll take it! 6.76 miles walked yesterday, carbs slightly over but all other macros & calories below. Pushing to hold this until the weekend as we have our first big big early Christmas celebration over the coming weekend which lasts Friday evening to Sunday lunch!!
12/03 132.8 – 10.06 miles walked yesterday, all macros well in green.

12/02 - 155.6 (+2.6) totally expected after a long weekend in Switzerland eating melted cheese with fresh bread most days In fact I stopped eating Sunday lunchtime because I couldn't face any more food! so this is a week of extreme dieting, drinkings lots of water and slowly starting exercising again following 2 weeks off with a pulled muscle in my hip and an arthritis fare.
12/03 154.4 (-1.2 lbs), down a little but I ate too much yesterday evening and I was over on calories, I was tired and couldn't face cooking anything so I ended up eating random stuff from the fridge.... I'm realizing tiredness is the worse for my diet as I tend to overcompensate with food (and the wrong kind of food!). Today I'm planning on going to the gym during my lunch break, I'm looking forward to it.

12/03 - 137.3lb (-0.3lb) Decided to weigh this morning for the first time in ages - slightly down from my one off weigh last round and was actually pleasantly surprised to be honest as expected this to be more. Christmas season snacking and socialising has started in earnest but want to make sure it doesn't get out of control over the next few weeks. So not necessarily aiming to lose - will be very happy to maintain through until the New Year. Just so need to get back to all you lovely ladies and gents and stay accountable.
Out on Friday for Escape Room and meal with work and aiming to stay away from the large pile of mince pies and sweets now in the office on a daily basis!

12/02 - 156.1 - A bit up, but not suprised. TOM came and should be gone now. Little dehydrated as I've been horrible about drinking water lately. I was so thirsty last night it was ridiculous which made me realize I really need to work on it. Especially since my skin is getting so dry from the weather. It needs all the help it can get! Did a coconut oil and honey face mask last night and added in lemon and tea tree. Then this morning I moisturized with coconut oil, lavendar, and tea tree in hopes it'll help with the redness around my poor skin cracks (they look kind of like pimples but its just spots where my skin has cracked open and bled). Hopefully it'll help keep moisturized enough to not have any more cracks! Water will help me drop that little extra I've put on since I last weighed, too. Postponing grocery shopping until next week and eating leftover food from my parents visit until Thursday. Will be a fun challenge trying to eat healthy with only what I already have on hand.

12/01 - Been at BF's since my parents left Friday morning. I weighed in on Wednesday and Thursday but didn't get a chance to post. Now I've forgotten ): Ah well. This week should be okay until Friday morning. Then I will be out of the state helping BF move until Tuesday night next week. Can't believe he's already going! I'm going to miss him so much. But I will be able to focus on my primal lifestyle once he's gone so there's my silver lining I'm holding on to. And I might be inspired to work out after work instead of rushing home.

11/29 – 146.5 – I had a wonderful Thanksgiving and have some leftovers to take care of this weekend. I’ll try to drink extra water today and be mindful of the leftovers.
11/30 – 148 – Ouch! I really didn’t want to step on the scale today, but I’m not going to change my habits if I don’t face the consequences. My family leaves for home today after the OSU/Michigan game. Today I’m really going to try to stay away from the goodies.
12/1 – 147 – Back to the calorie counting tomorrow. We finished the Thanksgiving leftovers today, so I’m hoping it doesn’t go up anymore.
12/2 – 147
12/3 – 145.5 – On the way back down. I wouldn’t be surprised if this is my real weight after the last week and a half, but I’ll be drinking plenty of water in hopes it might go down a little more tomorrow. Today is my first day back to work since last Tuesday, so I should be able to stay on plan.

Hi everyone, I'm back for another round, only my 2nd one so far. The day after Thanksgiving seems like a great starting point. I'm hoping this challenge and another I'm doing will help me get through the Holidays without any weight gain.
69 y/o female and 5'7" still (luckily)! I started this journey on Sept 17 2013 and lost 45 lbs the first year, then another 15 over the next 2 years. Unfortunately the last couple of years I've put that 15 back on. No excuses though. My goal is to lose 10 lbs from 165 to 155 and then re-evaluate whether I think I can get back down to 150.
Started R95 at 165 lbs
Ended R95 at 162.7 lbs
R97 CW: 162.9 lbs (on Thanksgiving morning)
R97 GW: 161 lbs
11/29: 163.6 Not a bad post-Thanksgiving bump. Off to the gym and some Christmas shopping
11/30: 163.1 Had sushi yesterday as a break from furniture shopping but managed to stay in control. Still carrying a bit of Thanksgiving extras but hopefully by Monday that will be gone
12/01: 162.6 On the way down again and hopefully I can keep that trajectory. Off to the gym for back and biceps
12/02: 161.8 Slowly but surely I'm going down
12/03: 161.5 Making progress. Lots going on here today so just a quick walk and some hip PT15 -
Nice job to everyone getting back on track after Thanksgiving!
@ajhouse - So sorry to read of the loss of your MIL. Sending peace, comfort, and light.
@TwistedSassette - Remember that water weighs 1Kg per liter. Dehydration will cause fluid retention, and rehydrating adds weight as it flushes - so timing of the weigh-in is everything.
@Hilogirl2018 - Sorry to read about your job loss. Hoping something comes along quickly (or as quickly as you want it to).
@StatChicBayes - Thanks for the recipe! Already saved it to my Keep App. I have a bunch of sweet potatoes left from last week - will be trying that today or tomorrow!
@lalabank and @_JeffreyD_ - YES! Those averages! This is the only challenge I haven't been posting mine, I need to add them. Monitoring the trend has been what's kept me in the game. Fluctuations on the scale can be so discouraging.
@PrimalJillian - Great job on Onderland!
@matratazola - I hear you. I tend to graze when too tired to cook. That's why I started weekly meal planning before shopping. And yes, it's just another thing added to my list of to do's, but it is a game changer. I use the meal planner for grocery shopping, but I also add things to the list for healthy snacks and quick meals (even if it's thinly sliced whole grain bread and deli thin meat or cheese for quick sandwiches). I also found that I have to take the time after shopping to cut and prep all of the fresh veggies and pop them into a plastic container. If it's ready to eat, I'll grab it when scouring the fridge. If not, I'll pass right over it, then I end up tossing it as spoiled at the week's end.

2. Due a toning workout for 20 minutes 5X a week
3. Count calories, less pasta, bread
Ending weight from last round. 164.4 lbs
11/29 165.0 lbs (1470 calories, 8794 steps,) I didn't splurge to bad but it was Thanksgiving. Kids and their families home all weekend. Lots of food around and I will be making. Plan on enjoying a little. (+ .6lbs)
11/30 165.8 lbs (1537 calories in, 10989 steps) here it comes. So no exercise with family here and to much food. But enjoying cooking and hosting and that is why I diet in between so one can enjoy life in the now. I will get back to it on Monday. (+. 1.4 lbs so far)
12/1 166.6 lbs. (2000 calories in, 14000 steps) no exercise and more cooking (+2 lbs)
12/2 168.0 lbs (2378 calories in, 14,221 steps) family finally left late afternoon and they were good at finishing most goodies up or taking them with but I did splurge yesterday on calories. Did try cross country sking after our blizzard but it had freezing rain first and so the conditions are slippery only made it a mile. (+ 3.6 lbs)
12/3 165.8 (1195 calories in, 16,963 steps) took my back out just getting out of bed yesterday. So slow going and no sking but did get my steps in by taking down fall decorations and putting up Winter decorations. (+1.4 lbs)14 -
Back for Round 97
Female / Age 62 / 5'2"
OW: 158.5 (12/30/18)
UG: 135.0 (for now, healthy weight for me)
Intro:Let me introduce myself. I struggled with my weight as a teen, topping out at nearly 200. I dropped it after high school and got to a healthy weight. Every major life changed has brought weight back on - having kids, pre-menopause, menopause, family tragedy, post menopause. I've knocked it back down each time, and have been surprised that each time required a different strategy, and resulted in a different type of lifestyle change to maintain. Each time as been much harder and slower. At this point, it's moving off at a snail's pace.
Motivation. I have a hyatial hernia. It does not bother me as long as I keep the weight at 150 or below. Every female on my mother's side has had arthritic knees, and I'm starting to feel twinges. They have also sustained falls and broken bones. My husband had a major health scare a coupe of years ago. The idea of being put out of commission by a preventable injury or illness scares the bejimminies out of me.
Goals. The goals at this stage are to drop weight to a healthy range, realign my eating style to a lifestyle that will keep me healthy into my golden years, and strengthen the muscles that support my knees, ankles, and shoulders, along with my core, to prevent injury.
Dropping weight post menopausal has been so difficult, I need this to be the last time. 10-15 pounds used to be easy to drop, so that was always my warning bell to focus. Not so much now. Looks like a 3-5 pound fluctuation will be it.
A healthy weight for me is 135-140. I've always looked anorexic at 120. We'll see how things are at 135, and go from there.

Strategy: Up the hydrating foods. Fruit with breakfast. Salad/veggies as bulk of lunch. Healthy dinner. Limit/eliminate processed carbs and sugars. Zero calorie intake after 8pm. Strength exercises 3 days on/1 day rest. Regular movement through day to compensate for desk job.
R97 Challenges: Getting back on track after Thanksgiving. I'll be starting December off with a Hydration Challenge to increase the amount of plant based hydration in my diet.
R97 SW: 145.0
R97 GW: 144.0
11/29 (F) 145.3 (Trend Weight 145.9) Not too bad a bump for Thanksgiving. Seems the increased activity (even with skipping the strength workouts) and my lightened up dinner menu was effective. Forced myself to have a light breakfast, and nibbled on raw veggies for lunch while prepping dinner. Are moderately, but it was still pretty carb and sodium heavy. Didn't get as much water as I should have. May see another bump tomorrow from the leftovers, but I did get both a strength workout and some aerobics in today.
11/30 (S) 145.6 (Trend Weight 145.9) Leftovers. Pretty much figured that. Glad it wasn't any worse. There's still a few left in the fridge, but I'm done with the heated up plates and turkey sandwiches. I can work what's left into lighter meals. Today is a strength workout rest day, but I'll shoot for getting my steps in a a short round of aerobics.
12/01 (S) 145.5 (Trend Weight 145.8) Ok. 1\10. I'll take it. Yesterday was on the high side of my calorie range and sodium was up a tad, but I was pretty close to the eating plan. I did get in a 20 minute aerobic session. It was late evening and I had to force it, but I got it in. Trend weight pulled down another 10th - so confident I'm past the holiday bump.
12/02 (M) 145.0 (Trend Weight 145.7) Yes! Mindful of my eating yesterday. Did not feel too well, so slugged my steps and workout. Today is day one of the Quench 5-Day Plan. Not as much of a diet as it is a way to increase more efficient plant-based hydration.
Morning smoothie was only 97 calories, and not particularly filling - so probably not a sustainable breakfast substitution. The plan makes using that morning smoothie as breakfast optional. I'll either need to make it more substantial, or make sure breakfast is light to stay within calorie range.
12/03 (T) 144.8 (Trend Weight 145.6) This is looking promising. I wasn't 100% on plan. Hubby wanted "Hamburger Glop" for dinner, which uses cream of mushroom soup and goes over biscuits or noodles. Pretty high starchy carb and high sodium. Being on plan for most of the day let me work that in and still stay within my set range.
Today is Day 2 of the Quench Plan. So far so good - and as you see, it kept me in range for the unexpected change in dinner menu. I'm going to try to bulk up my morning smoothie and see if that helps the mid-morning "I'm freaking hungry!"

11/29 – 269.8 I had a great day yesterday, I stayed on track and under calories, but still enjoyed everything I wanted. It didn’t hurt that we had our meal a little early so I was able to skip lunch and have a little more of a couple things. Now today will be another story because we’re putting up our tree and ordering in pizza. I’ll probably see a temporary bounce, but I’m trying to plan to minimize the potential damage.
11/30 – 271.6 We had pizza and dessert, so I was expecting a bounce up today. I was still a little under maintenance so I know that the bounce will be only be temporary.
12/01 – 271.4
12/02 – 268.8 Back down plus some so I’m pretty happy with this. I was sick yesterday and took it very easy because the sick came with a fever. I’ll see what I think I’m up for today, but with MS I’m always afraid to push too hard when I’m sick, especially when it involves a fever. Either way I am not going to use being under the weather as an excuse to overeat.
12/03 – 268.0 I wanted to wait and be sure that I was at some new lows before saying this…. I’ve lost over half the weight I want to lose!! I have less to lose in front of me than I’ve already lost and that just feels awesome. I know that at some point the losses will slow, but I am prepared for that to happen. I am feeling better this morning and I’m going to try not to overdo things, but I feel like moving!
