    Not a super long run, but at least a little more than my usual 3 miles today. The morning was very nice and I was glad to get it in before it turned rainy this afternoon. I also went rock climbing for a couple of hours. But didn't make it out for a hike with the dog because of the rain. I can't say I'm disappointed about that, but I'm sure Stella will remind me of how badly she's neglected for this oversight.

    I'm really behind on this thread and I feel like I'm coming down with a cold, so I'm just going to update my run and then go back and try to catch up with everyone. I ran 8 miles this morning. It was a tough run. I was planning a cutback week so I was really only planning to go about 8 miles so that was good. At least I felt like I accomplised my goal. But I was so tired afterward. Lately I've had really good runs, but today was a bit of a struggle to finish. I am glad I got out there and got it done. I should have one more run for the year on Tuesday, but I have already met my goal for the month so I am going to play it by ear and see how I feel on Tuesday.

    @kgirlhart I hope you feel better! There's a lot of stuff going around. It's good that you met your goal already, so you don't feel pressured to get out if you aren't feeling well.

    So the plan wanted 26km over the weekend. The AQ only cleared out by Sunday afternoon, and it took me until 7pm to head out. Ran out of time because the park closes at 9pm, and I really wasn't feeling the run. So I cut it short and went out for another 8km this morning. Temps had dropped by 10 degrees overnight and it was super windy. And my buff was with the girlfriend a timezone away. So I toughed it out, all numb face and freezing ears, until the turnaround point, and it was much easier with the wind at my back thereafter. Luckily, -10°C (about 14°F) is about as cold as it gets in Beijing.

    5.8km left to reach the goal. No more training runs scheduled until Wednesday. But it would be nice to actually reach that goal for a change.

    Hope everyone feels better soon @eleanorhawkins @kgirlhart @shanaber and anyone else needing a hug these days!

    On sale yesterday, so I couldn't resist. Model Nike Zoom Vomero 14. They are pretty snappy, and seem to be good at keeping the undersides of my feet from getting sore. 18km last night and hardly felt a thing. They also seem to be pretty good travel shoes, since they look pretty low-key and go pretty well with clothes.

    @noblsheep - I have shoe envy! I have a pair of the Nike Vomeros and I really like them but they getting pretty worn down. I need to get another pair – those look snazzy!
    @eleanorhawkins – hope the knee pain goes away quickly.
    @quilteryoyo – the weather on both Saturday and Sunday were crazy warm days. After church yesterday I got out on my bike and rode over 17 miles. I didn’t think I would get another ride in until Spring. Good job on those @AlphaHowls crazy laps!
    @kgirlhart and @shanaber – hope you both stay healthy. Rest, rest, rest!

    @LoveyChar – The county in which I live doesn’t have a leash law. In the state of Virginia it’s up to each county and mine hasn’t adopted one.

    I can’t remember exactly what month I started back at this, though Im thinking September? I’m wondering if there is a better running shoe for stability that I can use on roads AND trails, which is better than the Salomon xr’s? I love love love them but of course you know, everyone is advertising their new and improved shoes at the dawn of a new year so I can’t help but wonder if it might be worth looking around?

    I’m not sure it’s TIME to replace my shoes yet- they don’t wobble, the sole on the bottom has maintained its shape, they seem fine- just dirty from trails :)

    But i DO love shoes so maybe if it’s practical I could buy another pair :)

    Been a bit lazy last week but off out for a run now. The Christmas Day Parkrun was packed, lots of people dressed like elves etc which was a bit surreal. First prize for costume had to go to the guy in a hat shaped like a cooked turkey, complete with little paper hats on the drumsticks 🍗

    @shanaber I hope you aren't getting sick. Way to stick it out and run when you could.

    It was t-shirt and shorts weather today: 72°F. Crazy for the end of December.

    My tummy has been bothering me the last couple of days. I felt it was prudent to not get too far from home, so I did my longish run up and down a portion of my driveway today. It was a pretty boring 4 miles (13+ laps), but hard ones. My driveway is very hilly...Garmin says I had an elevation gain of 1,148 feet! I did go very, very slowly in order to get it done - 13:25 min/mile. Oh well, it's the distance and time on my feet that count. Right? With warm up and cool down walks, I traveled a total of 4.6 miles.

    @Tramboman I realized at church this morning that the First Day of Christmas was Christmas Day and I had started my 12 Days of Christmas on Dec 26th. So, the purist in me had to redo my song in order to get on the correct day. I did try to make it as accurate as possible.

    On the Fifth Day of Christmas,
    My workout let me see,
    Five hills to run
    Four falling leaves
    Three black cows
    Two tractor tracks
    And a sweet bouncing boxer puppy.

    Who's counting??????
    My 12 runs was going to go over anyway because of rest days.

    I have the worst possible legs in terms of stability - I literally have no stabilizing ligament in one knee, my other knee is valgus due to traumatic injury, and my ankles are shot. And I run trails in the Salomon speedcross, and love them. But you can’t run roads in them, it feels like running on cleats. You’re not going to find many dedicated stability shoes for trails, that’s not really a thing because it would snap your ankles. A good set of road shoes and a good set of trail shoes are a good idea. If your trails are mostly dry and even you can run them in road shoes, depending on the shoe.

    Never buy the newly advertised shoe at the beginning of the year unless you are made of money. January is the time to pick up last year’s hot model at half off. If you love the shoes you have now pick up another pair and rotate them!

    But also everything else said. I’ve replaced shoes twice since I started running. First time due to knee pain. Within a week the pain was resolved. Second due to hip pain. I rested a week first before replacing shoes. A week later no more hip pain and feeling stronger.

    I am in agreement that if you frequent both trails and road that you’ll want separate shoes for these.
