Did the yoga for belly butt and thigh DVD. The plan for tomorrow is to ride the recumbent bike
The biggest problem I see with doing yoga/pilates is that it doesn’t burn that many calories. But I know that I need it.
Beth – great insight for Karen. You brought up points I never thought of!
Karen – maybe Jeanette doesn’t realize that your relationship with your partner is platonic. Yes, she made a big mistake. Give her a chance to right it. I think Beth is right, she may be thinking that if she is in any way associated with you, then people might perceive her as being homosexual, and that she doesn’t want
Welcome everyone new and those returning!
All the Christmas decorations area down and put away. Didn’t think THAT would happen until we got back from FL
M – thanks for those great recipes. So many of them look so good. How I wish Vince would eat something like that!
Marianne WV – best of luck to you. I’m proud that you signed up
Does anyone know the answer: if you sub the whey from yogurt that you made for the water/milk in a recipe, if the food isn’t baked (like icing), does the item you made (the icing) need to be refrigerated?
Made chocolate chip cookies for Vince because I just realized that he has only a few of the lemon bars left. I’m not sure if that’s enough until we go to FL. B
Karen VA – I would definitely talk to Jeannette as Lisa suggested. It really sounds like there’s more to the “have a good life” than you know. You are an amazing friend to everyone and you deserve to know what’s going on in Jeannette’s mind
Sue WA – happy birthday!
Just made some chocolate chip cookies for Vince because I realized that he doesn’t have many of the lemon bars left, don’t know if he has enough until we go to FL. So I made more cookies. We can take them with us or else I’ll freeze them for when we get back. Hmmm…maybe I’ll freeze them.
RVRita – would you like to clean my car? Great goal. Only for me that probably wouldn’t work in wintertime. It was snowing yesterday
Lanette – I know this sounds really lame, but who is even playing in the SuperBowl? Is it Superbowl 54 or 53? I forgot about the Puppy Bowl or is it the Kitten Bowl?
Vince is getting packed right now, checking on the air pressure in the tires, etc. I have one suitcase packed and anything else will just go in this storage tote that I have. I don’t think I’ll have much to put in there. So far I’ve only had one piece of paper to add.
Oh, went to church tonight. The priest doesn't look at all good. He REALLY cut the mass short. Usually he gives out the communion. He didn't tonight but sat down. He had his eyes closed like he was totally exhausted. He's in his 70's so I'm afraid it's going to take him longer to get over whatever it is he has.

Michele - This is Superbowl 54. Teams playing are Kansas City Chiefs vs. San Francisco 49'ers. We really aren't big football fans though DH will watch on occasion. I think Football is boring except for the last quarter of a tight game, lol. Or maybe last two minutes (which actually can last ten minutes! )
Actually, we don't get Animal Planet so can't watch the Puppy Bowl. And you're right, there's a Kitten Bowl too - maybe on Hallmark Channel?2 -
Lanette - I think football is boring, too. That is....except for watching those guys run around in those tight pants....lol Now THAT I can get into....lol
Yea, the kitten bowl I think is probably on the Hallmark channel. We'll probably watch that.
Vince couldn't understand that for Loki, put 5 or so pills aside and pack the rest to take to FL. I honestly had to explain it to him. He was going to wait until the last minute to pack them. <sigh>
Vince is actually going to leave some clothes down at the condo. He laughed at me for doing this and now he is. He talked about buying another pillow to leave down there. Who knows what he'll do?

We'll be starting Pilates again once a week. It burns more than yoga, but as you say, not a whole lot. So I walk from my office to the physiotherapist place where we do the Pilates, and back again. That's 2 km. Plus I usually go for a walk with my husband after work. And I do some stairs during the day at work.
So I don't just do Pilates, I do some cardio too.
M in Oz5 -
We aren't really football fans but we'll probably watch some of the game tomorrow. It will be Jake's prep for the colonoscopy day so he won't be having snacks and he probably won't be sitting and watching for long periods.

Today my university is responding to the fact that its Chinese students will not be allowed into Australia because of the coronavirus.
The response is ... vague.
Typical.

One more comment on girlfriends - Karen in VA, Ginny - I thought a lot about girlfriends I've lost touch with and vice versa because of getting married and the "couple" thing, general business and neglect, or the fact that we are now separated by miles. In a sense, since my DH rarely leaves the house and socially I'm on my own, I've had to develop my own friendships. It's working.
OK, review of last month. My goal was to find an eating plan that was simple and sustainable. Here's my journey into clean intermittent fasting (time restricted eating) thus far. The upshot is I've taken off around 6 lbs since mid December, my favorite jeans now not only fit but are too big, and inflammation is down. Details here (apologies for all of the bullets, I cannot get rid of them):- I restrict food anywhere from 12 to 20 hours, depending on degree of hunger and my schedule. Eating window generally closes at 4 or 4:30 pm.
- I “clean fast” = plain coffee, black tea or water. No flavors or additives of any kind. That’s the magic.
- I am back down to my pre-surgery weight of last August. Around 6 lbs lost in 7 weeks. All of my jeans now fit comfortably and my faves are too baggy to wear. And the microfiber undies I couldn’t wear last summer because they cut into the tops of my thighs… not a problem, don’t even know I have them on.
- Much less inflammation in my feet. Can actually go barefoot (on carpeting) without feeling like I’m stepping on gravel.
- Blood pressure back down. Daily Qigong and Wu Chi standing postures likely helping as well.
- No more nightly sugar cravings/before bed binges on candy, cookies and chips. I've had a few forays into the cookie jar during the past few weeks, but nothing major.
- I need to mention … I went through some pretty nasty bloating and painful gas about 3 weeks in from what I suspect was my gut biome changing. It’s happy now thanks to pre and pro biotics. From what I’ve read, this is common and some IF’ers who are really restrictive (19 hrs and above) become constipated or have loose stools constantly after breaking their fasts each day. And others sail right through.
- The jury is still out on the length of a fast for us older folks (nearing 70 and above). Valter Longo says no more than 12 hours. He says gall bladder problems possible… well not for me since mine is gone. Dale Bredesen, author of “The End of Alzheimers” recommends 12 hr fast, no food 3 hrs before bed but says OK to have extended fast up to 16 hours. My idea is to try for a 16 hour fast and if I'm not hungry, go ahead and push on. But don't get weak and jittery. By the way, I'm eating around 1600 to 1800 calories (or maybe much more or much less per day) but this is not about counting calories - it's eating dependent on hunger
- I’ve heard this type of IF is known as a “health plan with the side effect of weight loss”. I pretty much eat what I want, plenty of complex carbs, fiber, healthy fats, protein. Sweet treats are OK – like a cookie or a candy bar for dessert, which is satisfying. The idea is to keep insulin low and let the glucose drop so the body starts drawing from fat stores which can be at the 12-hour fasting mark. Folks with a lot of weight to lose might do better with Keto or low-carb. But there are plenty who lose doing a 16/8. Takes time and often the scale doesn’t reflect a loss, but there are significant decreases in measurements, clothing sizes, etc. from “body recomposition”. This might be anecdotal but worth noting.
- Lots of great resources – Beth’s favorite “AC-The Power of Appetite Correction” by Bert Herring, MD. “The Obesity Code” by Dr. Jason Fung. “Delay, Don’t Deny” by Gin Stephens and the associated Facebook group.
Rebecca - so glad to see IF is working for you! It's not as hard as I thought it would be. DH doesn't know I'm doing it, no one does except you gals, lol. Someone posted about not talking about it with people in general, like the fight club... "The first rule of the Fast Club is don't talk about the Fast Club" (to keep people from commenting it's not healthy, you'll starve, why not try WW or something else, etc. etc. - to avoid too much "helpful" unneeded advice!)
Beth - so sorry to hear about your hearing aid challenges. I popped mine in for a while last month, building up wearing time. My ear despises it-allergy to earpiece plastic? I took it out tho it helped a little - my problem is roaring tinnitus in the left ear. When the hearing in my right ear starts to fade I'll get serious again. Hugs to you.
I see I need to go back and review posts from the past several days, it's been super busy around here. Make it a super day, ladies and I'll catch you later.
((( Gigantic group hug to all of us who have lost trusted friends in our lives for various reasons )))

Today was my first official day #1. I eat at 12 noon, 2 pm snack, 4 pm meal and 5 pm snack. I just want to be done eating before I have to cook my husband and son's meal. Today was a taco and coffee, applesauce, salmon with spinach and noodles, and finally mandarin oranges. I am feeling great so far!
I am kind of nervous exercising. I will have to be really conscientious of how I am feeling.
Hugs friend!6 -
Machka- probably the government was vague with them too.
Well 600+ calories over Hubby bought donuts 🍩 I ate 3. Was a happy 1st date anniversary, missing the family event pity party, y remembering my Mom. All in one day. Hubby ate more than me. Didn’t exercise been a moping around day y cuddling with JR day. Watched Gotham show with a hot water bottle for my period. Ate a healthy lunch .Pizza slice for dinner. A protein shake. So hopefully will just stay the same not go up. Sent an impersonal happy anniversary email done. Sorry to my cousin for missing him ,but found out he cancelled on them (He hates conflict) Found out I wasn’t the only one not invited. 2 step kids y 1 biological who was born for her bone marrow to save her sister (my 3 favorite little cousins) were also not there didn’t seem to be invited until last second or missed. One relative said All your cousin #%*+% kids came . I said even Alissa? Oh oh yeah guess she’s family too no she didn’t come. So not the only one seems like all with a kind heart ❤️ but never fully accepted wasn’t there.

My salmon meal. I boiled my noodles, and used my screen that keeps bacon grease from splattering, and put that on top. Then I filled my steamer expandable bowl thingy with fresh spinach. By the time the noodles were done the spinach was too. Oh I also put a lid on the top of my spinach steamer contraption so it would stay closed up. The spinach was still firm ish and not mushy.👍
Rebecca
that is stoked and excited

Oh I used an old dry erase board and turned it into my water counter for the day! I will use beads and move from one pin to another.

My dog Mickey died the night she was diagnosed with congestive heart failure, ten years ago. She was a great dog, a tiny papillon, but so smart and affectionate. She used to snuggle so close her tail would get caught up in my knitting.
Now I have Teddy, who is half Maltese and half Cavalier King Charles spaniel. He is 15 pounds of fluffy white dog, but he doesn't shed. Again a very smart and affectionate dog. He has been with me since before the divorce, living in four different houses over eight years or so.

Saturday (yesterday) -- My legs were dead!! I guess I put out more energy on Thursday than I thought! So we went for a short, easy bicycle ride.
Distance: 12.20km
Elevation: 83m
Moving Time: 48:44
Elapsed Time: 53:52
Speed: Avg: 15.0km/h | Max: 28.4km/h
Sunday (today) -- it's very windy, so I'll probably ride inside. I'm thinking of doing an FTP test on the bicycle so that I can get a power baseline for reference.
Throughout February, some work colleagues and I are planning to do a February 500 ... climbing 500 flights of stairs in total by the end of February.
So I'm curious ... if I do an FTP test today, then do the February 500, then do another FTP test at the end of the month, will it make a difference to my power!?!
I hope so!

Barbie: Thank you for the February kickoff and your stalwart support of this group. You are a treasure.
Annie: 💔💔💔💔 So sorry about Mickey.
We love all sports in our house, so we will have on kitten bowl, puppy bowl and Super Bowl with snacks. My brother is from the Bay Area, so go Niners!
My January ended with 3 extra pounds. 😫😫😫 February is bound to be better.
DH was a sweet pea today. After he showered, he was agreeable to going out for lunch. He enjoys all kinds of food, but the actual act of eating is a chore. For some reason he no longer wants to eat with his hands, so sandwiches and burgers are always dismantled and slowly cut into tiny pieces he picks up with a fork. Today it was a teriyaki burger and fries for him, and cobb salad for me. We are still full so not planning on making dinner tonight. Yay!
There is a big blond cat on my lap impeding my typing so gonna sign off.

Hi Gals,
Barbie – thanks for keeping us together and current!
Had a “surprise” visit from my nephew, he texted as he left college for the 3 hour drive down, that he’d like to stop for dinner. I was delighted! He has lost about 30 lbs, (the “poster” about men vs women losing weight made me smile) his weight lose system is riding his bike to college and back 2 times a day 5 days a week, it is just under 1 mile each way so he is riding 20 miles a week and loses 30 lbs in 3 months…. I suspect he is doing other things too and doesn’t realize it. His jeans were hanging on him gathered up by an ugly belt! So I introduced him to the thrift store after dinner. He knows his brands and is fashion aware. An almost new pair of $105 jeans for $16.60 he was delighted and I got them for him as a valentines Day gift early.
About 8-9 years ago, a older gardening client asked me to be a party angel for her superbowl party – putting out food, helping guests, doing cleanup – about 3 years into that it I started catering it too. They are a very conservative eating group of 20-30 folks the young ones in their 80’s the oldest this year will be 101. Nothing spicy (and ground black pepper is spicy) nothing not “American” yet a favorite and what I am making this year is Lasagna, garlic bread light garlic, and salad. It is pretty busy and I will miss most of the game, but am loved and well paid. This group is crazy 49er fans, and that is my team also, I will wear my 9er gear with an apron. They have 3 rooms set up for watching all with big (full wall) screen TVs and decorations to match the teams. But this year the hostess told me there would be only 49er decorations. LOL It is a huge house, last year in the about 6 hours I was there I walked 25,000 steps.. There are quite a few with walkers and so I fetch and carry drinks, food etc. as well as doing all the cooking. The guests bring the appetizers and desserts.
We have had a few days in a row with California cold nights and nice days, today 40 at 5am and 65 in the afternoon, I have been working in my garden for a couple of hours each afternoon. Still tons to do but getting there.

What is Functional Threshold Power?
Functional Threshold Power (FTP) represents your ability to sustain the highest possible power output over 45 to 60 minutes, depending on whether you’re a trained athlete or not. As a result 95% of the 20 minute average power is used to determine FTP.

Getting ready to gear up for the day - need to help partner with 'morning stuff', feed dogs, & get ready for work…but I have a few minutes before I have to shift into gear…
Kim I want to go to that party. Wow. Just wow. You are phenomenal.
Rori Isn't that odd about needing to cut sandwiches up & eat with a fork? Dementia is so baffling sometimes. Glad your husband was a sweet pea yesterday. I hope there are more days like that for you two. How is your planning for memory care progressing? My partner & I are starting to look at continuing care options.
Rebecca Athena and her thumb. So stinkin' cute. And...I love your Happy Nudist whiteboard.
Annie How crushing about your tiny Papillon Mickey. I don't think most dogs deteriorate that quickly with heart failure. It must have been a shocker to lose her so quickly.
Superbowl We aren't football fans either but the Super Bowl is in a category by itself. We will eat some fun food & enjoy the game, halftime, & TV ads.
OK, up and at 'em. Only 30 weeks to go until I am retired…

Already 5 pages behind, but catching up so here goes.
Ginny I know what you mean, you do lose social connections when you lose a partner. I know I'm not keen on going out with couples, I feel like a spare part, and feel envious of them. I'm lucky in that although most of my friends are married, we do a lot of girly stuff together on a regular basis. I really appreciate them. I have also joined a 'Ladies Who' group. It is a ladies only social group who meet up for lunch, latte & various other events to enjoy each other's company & form friendships. I must admit being an introvert this is outside my comfort zone, but I always enjoy myself when I attend outings. In fact we had a lovely afternoon tea last Thursday, and I am getting to know some of them now which helps. Maybe there is something similar where you are that you could join?
Heather Love the quote I'm gonna make the rest of my life, the best of my life. I'm trying!
Sue Belated Happy Birthday to you
Annie So sorry for the loss of Mickey
Barbie Thanks for keeping us going. Can't believe we are in February already.
Well I started January at 149lbs and I'm now back to 147lbs I've been eating too many Christmas goodies, but I am going to stop eating empty calories. I'm going to put Heather's quote up near the computer and in the kitchen near the biscuit tin. I'll start logging my food again as well, see if I can see a pattern for losing a few pounds and gaining them again. My aim is to be less than 147lb by the end of Feb.
My sister in law has heard from the oncologist and found that the cancer has spread to her brain. She is back on the tablets to help slow it down, I think she is on the right dosage now and hope it helps. Once this stops slowing the cancer, she can go onto another tablet, once that one stops helping, she can have chemotherapy. We/they are taking it a day at a time now, I'm praying that the cancer slows down so she has many more years with us. We may know a bit more next month when she will have more tests to see if the cancer has slowed or spread.
DS is having trouble laying the flooring in the kitchen, the ground is not level (even though it has had something put on it to level it off) he's had to take up a few of them because they were not going in straight. That was probably why hubby chose a square type pattern last time rather than wooden planks. (You couldn't tell whether they were in straight or not because the pattern had different shapes on it) I'm sure DS will get there in the end, it might take longer than we though it would though.
Better make a start on the dinner, if I can get into the kitchen!
Love to all

Viv - Glad you liked the quote. It spoke to me. I do occasionally google happiness quotes if I'm feeling a bit out of kilter. I always find some that help! If I'm doing something difficult I try to pre-arm myself with a few. Put them in my backpack, as Margaret would say.
Kim - That sounds like a great workout! Cash and a workout, win win! I'm sure they all love you. It did make me laugh to think of Lasagne as an American dish.
The chicken curry was fantastic yesterday. We're having it again today and I'm going to make some kind of spicy cabbage stir fry to go with it. Vegtastic!
England playing in the Six Nations rugby match this afternoon. It's against France, in Paris. DH will be watching on TV in his study. I will do some rowing.
In my memoir I'm writing about the first time I had dressed salad in France and it tasted like angel's nectar. A seminal moment in my food journey. When I can be bothered to make my dressing for a green salad now, I always am transported back to that evening and wonder why I don't make it more often. I remember waxing lyrical at the time (I was 12) and my dad saying, "It's the garlic."

Hello everyone.
Yesterday was quite a busy one. I attended a flower arranging class, did a little clothes shopping, had a haircut and also hit the grocery store. Also got some laundry done and a nice, long nap. I certainly miss my power naps during the workweek.
Today will be a meal planning day. I do need to return some of the items I purchased yesterday. One shirt was just a little too see-through for me and the rest were too big. I am still getting used to being a smaller me. The return may wait until one day after work. I will see how the day goes.
Amber – Congratulations on the weight loss. WTG.
Luci – Down to a 10 from an 18. Great work!
Machka – Yeah the Christmas decorations are down! I almost miss mine – especially the lights. I am thinking of buying seasonal ones for my courtyard. I have a 6-foot high privacy fence and I can place them on the inside. I do have some solar ones, but it’s not the same. Your roses and garden area are beautiful.
Lisa – Congratulations on the January weight loss.
Allie – You must be getting very excited for your trip. Cannot wait to hear about it and seeing some pictures.
Ginny – At first many of our coupled friends stayed in touch after Charlie died. We all slowly drifted and I think the main reason is both sides are reminded of our loss and grief. I know I isolated myself for quite some time because I did not want to keep talking about it and “faking” happiness. I am working upon putting myself out there.
Heather – I love the happiness quote.
Karen – Hugs to you. Oh, no dog poop! I cannot imagine (or I can and do not want to).
Sue – Happy belated birthday to you. I hope your new year is a great one for you.
RvRita – Wow, what an impressive January you had hitting your goals.
Lanette – I have read The Stand a few times. It’s one of those once every decade reads for me.
Terri – Sorry to hear about your SIL and how her controlling ways have effected your family. Yet, I do think DB has some responsibility in not getting in touch with his family. I know men are not wired like we are, but……
Michele – I still do not know how you bake so much and stay away from it. I simply have not self-control when it comes to homemade baked goods. Yeah! Christmas decorations are put away and you do not have to think about them when you return from your FL trip.
Annie – So very sorry to hear about the loss of Mickey.
Kim – Although you will miss most of the game you being a party angle sounds like fun. 101! I cannot imagine. I hope I never get to a point in my life where black pepper is too spicy – LOL.
Rebecca – Athena continues to bring a smile to my face – she is a cutie. Love the water tracker. It’s a great way to recycle/reuse.
Viv – Praying for your DSIL.
Welcome all who are new. We are all in different places in our journeys yet have many things in common. Visit frequently and jump in when you are comfortable.
Hugs to all and prayers for those in need.

Happy Groundhog Day and Super Sunday! Guess we'll be routing for the Chiefs since DH is from Kansas. We will snack a bit during the game and I'll drink a beer, but otherwise, calorie counting won't be much different today. I'll still log it and we will have a smaller dinner to make up for game time.
My Favorite part of Superbowl:

Viv Prayers for your SIL! Hope the cancer responds well to the pills!
SuzyQ Beautiful flowers!
I like the start of the month...feels like a new opportunity on our journeys to weight loss or management! I am hoping for a more active month this month. I'm still not going to struggle on the numbers, just keep improving my health and keeping downward movement on the scale. Not going to stress out over these last 10 pounds!
Hugs to All! Luci in WNC3
