KJ reading your “crossing incredibly high or narrow footbridges” made me giddy in a most unpleasant way :sick: but I’ve always had a “thing” about bridges, absorbed from Mama ;}
Kylia great NSVs! Would you tell me more about your shark IQ? Can you somehow limit it to one area? Does it really pick up dog hair? Be still my heart!

Welcome @santd come join us on this month’s thread https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10783126/women-ages-50-for-february-2020#latest
Flea yes a very sweet and beautiful boy. Hoping caught early and medication gives good quality couple of years. As for more administrative responsibility, does it come with an assistant? Or are they just trying to get you to do 3 people’s work for 1.5 people’s pay?
Karen in VA praying for you and your Jeanette. Even though she’s rewritten history and her feelings have changed, I believe somewhere inside she is hurting for missing you too, Your longing for your bff really resonates with me, as my BFF of 30+ years passed way way way too soon.
Beth thank you for sharing your mother’s wisdom. Time for me to find a new gyno. How do I know? should have said AA tastes like BB smells
Belated best birthday Sue! 72 no longer seems awfully old, to me… as I approach my 70th I’m thinking “70 is the new 40” or maybe 50
Lanette I have to agree with you about Karen’s Connie and her motivations. IMHO good people don’t love to gossip. People who need to feel important by passing on what they know that you don’t, and don’t care who is hurt, well  Me three!
Welcome Bellingham lady, helengray1965, glad you found us.
A dreadful nightmare (someone chasing after me, threatening me with a shotgun, 911 dispatcher laughed and hung up…) awakened me at 1:30. Chatting and catching up with you has dispelled the residual cauld grue. Hoping for a restful hour’s zzzzs.
Lighter, lovelies!

well I am showered and dressed and Mary will pick me up at 8:45 and we will go to wake and funeral..
I rarely have lost any friends , but lately its more funerals I go to.. my friend that passed away was about 6 months older than me, and poor girl had a hard life,,,she was a friend to all and will miss her,,
we are going to my friend Zina's dads services, we have all worked together for 14 yrs and she is like sister to us..
the last wedding i was supposed to go to, my DFIL was on his way out so I missed that one.. But I firmly believe that everything happens for a reason.. so I try and go with the Flow and know the good lord has a plan for me.
I did print out an application for part time assistant senior coordinator for a couple towns away.. and will drop off my application and resume on Tuesday .. cant hurt for trying and you know I would love it.5 -
Hello everyone.
Wow, it has only been a few days and I have missed a lot of discussions. I wish I could say I am caught up with the end of January but will slowly get there. This is one fast-moving group.
Barbie - Thank you so much for keeping us together and creating February's thread. You are truly dedicated to the group and I appreciate you!
Hugs to all and prayers to those in need.

Hello,
I'm new here to MFP. Not sure if you can see this as I still use the free version of the software. Not sure how robust the forums are for non-paying MFP users.
Turned 50 and experienced menopause in 2019. I also have been letting the pounds creep up. It's time to get back to work and stop just coasting through my days.
1. Goal for February is to find a Dr. who can help balance out my hormones. My GP wants to take me off HRT, but I'm not ready yet. I took a "break" from HRT and felt like I'd been hit by a bus after only 10 days. Menopause has been disabling for me. Due to symptoms of menopause, I've been unable to continue in my career. I stepped down to a part time, retail sales job, which has helped.
2. Also Goal for February: exercise 6x a week! It doesn't have to be vigorous exercise, but I need to create the habit of getting into the gym every day.
I'm not sure if I can lose weight, considering my hormone levels, but that would be nice, too.
Cheers, Rochelle from Portland, Oregon, USA.

It's February, ladies!
We are off to a new start - thank you Barbie!
One more comment on girlfriends - Karen in VA, Ginny - I thought a lot about girlfriends I've lost touch with and vice versa because of getting married and the "couple" thing, general business and neglect, or the fact that we are now separated by miles. In a sense, since my DH rarely leaves the house and socially I'm on my own, I've had to develop my own friendships. It's working.
OK, review of last month. My goal was to find an eating plan that was simple and sustainable. Here's my journey into clean intermittent fasting (time restricted eating) thus far. The upshot is I've taken off around 6 lbs since mid December, my favorite jeans now not only fit but are too big, and inflammation is down. Details here (apologies for all of the bullets, I cannot get rid of them):- I restrict food anywhere from 12 to 20 hours, depending on degree of hunger and my schedule. Eating window generally closes at 4 or 4:30 pm.
- I “clean fast” = plain coffee, black tea or water. No flavors or additives of any kind. That’s the magic.
- I am back down to my pre-surgery weight of last August. Around 6 lbs lost in 7 weeks. All of my jeans now fit comfortably and my faves are too baggy to wear. And the microfiber undies I couldn’t wear last summer because they cut into the tops of my thighs… not a problem, don’t even know I have them on.
- Much less inflammation in my feet. Can actually go barefoot (on carpeting) without feeling like I’m stepping on gravel.
- Blood pressure back down. Daily Qigong and Wu Chi standing postures likely helping as well.
- No more nightly sugar cravings/before bed binges on candy, cookies and chips. I've had a few forays into the cookie jar during the past few weeks, but nothing major.
- I need to mention … I went through some pretty nasty bloating and painful gas about 3 weeks in from what I suspect was my gut biome changing. It’s happy now thanks to pre and pro biotics. From what I’ve read, this is common and some IF’ers who are really restrictive (19 hrs and above) become constipated or have loose stools constantly after breaking their fasts each day. And others sail right through.
- The jury is still out on the length of a fast for us older folks (nearing 70 and above). Valter Longo says no more than 12 hours. He says gall bladder problems possible… well not for me since mine is gone. Dale Bredesen, author of “The End of Alzheimers” recommends 12 hr fast, no food 3 hrs before bed but says OK to have extended fast up to 16 hours. My idea is to try for a 16 hour fast and if I'm not hungry, go ahead and push on. But don't get weak and jittery. By the way, I'm eating around 1600 to 1800 calories (or maybe much more or much less per day) but this is not about counting calories - it's eating dependent on hunger
- I’ve heard this type of IF is known as a “health plan with the side effect of weight loss”. I pretty much eat what I want, plenty of complex carbs, fiber, healthy fats, protein. Sweet treats are OK – like a cookie or a candy bar for dessert, which is satisfying. The idea is to keep insulin low and let the glucose drop so the body starts drawing from fat stores which can be at the 12-hour fasting mark. Folks with a lot of weight to lose might do better with Keto or low-carb. But there are plenty who lose doing a 16/8. Takes time and often the scale doesn’t reflect a loss, but there are significant decreases in measurements, clothing sizes, etc. from “body recomposition”. This might be anecdotal but worth noting.
- Lots of great resources – Beth’s favorite “AC-The Power of Appetite Correction” by Bert Herring, MD. “The Obesity Code” by Dr. Jason Fung. “Delay, Don’t Deny” by Gin Stephens and the associated Facebook group.
Rebecca - so glad to see IF is working for you! It's not as hard as I thought it would be. DH doesn't know I'm doing it, no one does except you gals, lol. Someone posted about not talking about it with people in general, like the fight club... "The first rule of the Fast Club is don't talk about the Fast Club" (to keep people from commenting it's not healthy, you'll starve, why not try WW or something else, etc. etc. - to avoid too much "helpful" unneeded advice!)
Beth - so sorry to hear about your hearing aid challenges. I popped mine in for a while last month, building up wearing time. My ear despises it-allergy to earpiece plastic? I took it out tho it helped a little - my problem is roaring tinnitus in the left ear. When the hearing in my right ear starts to fade I'll get serious again. Hugs to you.
I see I need to go back and review posts from the past several days, it's been super busy around here. Make it a super day, ladies and I'll catch you later.
((( Gigantic group hug to all of us who have lost trusted friends in our lives for various reasons )))

Machka from 104F to snow in 3 days? And I thought Idaho weather was variable. :noway:
Barbara, the Southern Oregon Coastie
I think they call it snow-driven heat or heat-driven snow or something. Wind blows up from Antarctica, over mainland Australia where it heats up and down onto Tasmania ... but then the pressure system changes and the wind blows up from Antarctica and right over Tasmania without going as high as mainland Australia ... then the pressure system changes again ... over and over and over.
I've never lived in a place with such changeable weather. I know a lot of places claim, "If you don't like the weather, wait 5 minutes" ... here, it's "If you don't like the weather, wait 5 minutes and you'll get something at completely the opposite end of the spectrum".
Drives me crazy!! You can't plan for anything. I organise these cycling events, but I have absolutely no way of knowing what the weather will be like ... not even the slightest hint. So riders wait till the last possible second to sign up. We'll have no riders signed up for an event until about 2 hours before the deadline ... and all of a sudden we might have 1 or 5 or 16 or something.
If you go to Windy and watch the wind patterns over Tassie, you'll see ...
https://www.windy.com/
Right now the wind is coming straight up from Antarctica and they're predicting snow down to 800 metres on Sunday night. I might have to find my boots for Monday morning.

(((Barbie)) ~ Thanks for getting us into February!
Karen in VA ~ So sorry for the loss of your longtime friendship.
Beth ~ You are a very insightful person and give such good advice. I am so sorry your hearing aids are not helping but hurting.
Machka ~ Love the photo of your roses!
Sue ~ Happy, Happy Birthday!
Rebecca ~ Your salad looks Yummy!
Lisa ~ Congrats on your weight loss.
I think we have all gone through life losing friendships that were very important to us. Sometimes it is so very hard to let it go and move on! And, then there are those friendships that have held steady through the years and will always give us joy. All we can do is be thankful for the good memories that all have brought.

Hello everyone! I can't believe we are starting Feb.. where did Jan. go? Well, I am sitting here scrolling thru FB and reading MFP as I didn't sleep well last night. For some reason I went over my past relationships and saw only bad choices my entire life. I have 3 WONDERFUL sons to show 19 yrs. of marriage but that didn't last. I have had breakfast and going to head over to the gym for my weigh-in and some exercising. It's a new month with a new attitude!!!I even signed up for doing a 5k/1k in March so I better get moving.
Have a great day and sorry about venting but I had to let it out somewhere.

Hi Ladies, back again...
Sue - Happy Belated Birthday! Are you getting washed away up there? Just got back from my walk, it's really coming down. We received another inch since yesterday evening. Old Farmer's Almanac said Pacific NW weather would be "wet or worse" this winter. Yikes!
Rebecca - I forgot to mention, your salad looks great!!! You rock! Are you doing your IF 2 meals? I'm generally 2 meals plus snack, tho I'm still trying to figure out when to have my snack so it doesn't interfere with my supper. Seems like rolling it into my breakfast/lunch combo works best. I guess it can take a few months to develop a good routine.
Amber, thank you for all of your posts regarding the Coronavirus. Someone online suggested it's time to reread "The Stand" by Stephen King. Think I will. Spoiler: Rori - the survivors will meet in Boulder for a final show-down between good and evil. Be on the lookout for creepy people, lol.
Cheri - no kidding, lol. No fair that guys can just stop eating and don't seem to get "hangry".
Kim - I finally made it out to do some pruning, got a good start on 2 little apple trees this past week. Discovered those 2 (Hudson's Golden Gem and Chehalis) are pretty diseased, likely anthracnose or virus from trunk wounds - mowing, rabbits. And the Pacific NorthWET conditions. Hopefully removing some of the larger diseased branches will give us another year or two of apples-those trees are only 10 years old at the max. The Gravenstein seems to be OK, it's on higher ground that drains better.
Not ready to do any seed starting yet, the greenhouse has become firewood storage for now anyhow. What a relief to have withdrawn from the Master Gardener Demo Garden "Manager" position. When I took it I thought another gal was going to share the job, she backed out after I accepted. I'm sure they'll find someone else who can give 100% to it. Maybe I'm really done with MG's - I'm the last one left from my 2010 training class. The thrill is going, lol.
Tomorrow is Superbowl Sunday for the US football fans. Guess I'm rooting for Kansas City since I like their cute Quarterback Pat Mahomes, lol, and he kind of reminds me of the Seattle Seahawk's Russell Wilson. We might tune in at least for the last quarter of the game. I want to see the "Puppy Bowl".
Time to haul in some firewood, looks like a break in the monsoon right now.

Heather: My BFF from school days and I went our separate ways in college. She was the maid of honor at my wedding, and I didn’t see her after that for many years. When our high school 50th reunion came along I tracked her down. She didn’t go to the reunion, but we met at a restaurant for lunch. It was great seeing her. I was surprised at how heavy she was. She used a mobility device, as does my husband. Her need was because of her weight. DH”s is caused by MS. After that meeting and meal she had some very bad things happen in her life. He daughter was killed in a car accident, and she fell into a deep depression. She moved into a nursing home. I haven’t heard anything in a long time. She doesn’t communicate with me.
Viv: It is good to see your post.
Heather: I like your quotation, ”I’m going to make the rest of my life the best of my life.” :flowerforyou:
(((Karen in VA))) I’ve found that, in life, we are who we are and we’re stuck with it. We don’t have the option to be someone else. We have to woman up and do the best we can. I think you’re doing a fine job of that.
Barbara in S Oregon: Sorry you had a dreadful nightmare. I hope you sleep better tonight.
Rochelle from Portland, OR: I haven’t paid the fees here and everything still works for me, so far. I live just down the river from Portland in Columbia County. :flowerforyou:
RVRita: WOW! You have achieved so many goals. Congratulations!
We’re on a quest to replace our kitchen faucet and hot tap. So far we’ve been to three “homeowner hell” stores without finding what we want. DH is now looking online.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SUE!!!! :drinker:
Went for my bonus 5k run. It was blowing a gale on the way home and the storm clouds were gathering behind us. Sun over the brown, crashing sea and acrobatic wind surfers keeping us entertained. Fabulous.
We unexpectedly met DDIL with Max and friends on the prom. They went off to buy Marrocco ice creams while we dutifully continued our run. Passed them on the way back guzzling them inside the café window. It didn't rain after all.
It was hard work after a sleepless night, but I've had a recovery nap.
Made a chicken, lentil, potato and spinach curry, which is currently cooking in the IP. Should be enough for two days.
Much love to all, Heather UK xxxxxxxx

Terri Oh that burns me that your sister-in-law effectively cut you off from your brother. My mom's sister-in-law did that to my mom & her only brother (Uncle Wes) years ago, and my lovely but spineless uncle kowtowed to Aunt Meg. So silly, because the only means of communication were mail & long distance phone calls & they lived in Idaho while my family lived in Nebraska, so there was no threat that we'd intrude in their lives. We did see them, but the visits were carefully dictated & overseen by my controlling aunt.
Beth Tragic about what has happened to your hearing. Do you have any options that seem hopeful? I have minor high frequency hearing loss that drives me crazy, so I can't imagine what you experience. My partner has very acute hearing - an ENT that she saw for some balance issues told me never to mutter under my breath because she would hear what I said.
Barbara AHMOD So terribly sad about your BFF dying. I sometimes feel as if mine did, too. I will certainly think about what everyone is saying about TeleConnie (her nickname). Maybe everyone has made excuses for her for too long. She was able stop spreading her husband's family's business after he confronted her a few times about it. I suppose people put up with it because she & her husband are a friendly, dynamic, civic-minded, locally philanthropic couple who generously open their home for all sorts of parties & meetings & visitors. Concerning the cauld grue left from your dreadful nightmare, I do hope it has completely dissipated in the light & warmth by now.
>>>
Because of several of you, this morning I have a lot more insight into my BFFs reaction & behavior, & at least for the moment, that panicky feeling is gone. It's making more sense. I think I've been a bit dense. I'm musing about what to do with my dawning clarity. It's been so many years…more than 15. I feel as if I have been to a really wise, insightful therapist who has finally helped me gain clarity. I feel less vulnerable. Maybe I will send her a note and see what happens.
I feel as if my mother is smiling.
I'll give it a few days.
Thank you.

Hello ladies!
I joined this thread a year ago, but life happened, and I had no time for communication.
I would love to join back in for fellowship and support.
I am 57 years old (shocking), married 26 years and have 3 grown children.
My oldest graduated with her Master's in Applied Behavior Analysis and works as the Director of Behavior for a school for children with autism.
My middle daughter graduated in December with a degree in Health Care coordination. She is working at a pain clinic, but looking for that Coordinator position.
My youngest is in college to become a geologist, at least that is the plan this semester.
I an a high school math teacher, I teach at a Title One school, which can be challenging.
My goal for 2020 is to lose this last 8 pounds then maintain. I have 40 year high school reunion this fall, my daughter will be getting engaged soon and there will summer vacation at the beach, etc. I don't want to panic diet as each of these events approach. I want to be at my goal weight and stay there!
Thank you for including me, and I look forward to supporting and getting to know you all again.11 -
Hallo Lynn! Welcome to the thread! Remember to sign off with your name each time with an approximate location. Sounds like you are pretty much on track. I don't think anyone stays at goal completely. We wander about a bit and then try to stabilise. Your family sounds amazing. Well done your kids!
I am 70, which amazes me. My goal is to stay active, which I am managing at the moment. I love to eat lots of delicious, healthy food, so I burn lots of calories every day to enable that. Everybody has a different system, but the best diet is the one that works for you.
Greetings again, Heather UK xxxxxxxx5 -
Just a meme for Katla's message to Karen, which obviously resonated for me.

Reading this thread has inspired me! I am a couple of pounds less than I was at the start of January. At first I was disappointed and wished for a bigger loss for the effort I put in. At the start of February I am moving forward hoping for another two pound loss. I realize I create goals that are too ambitious and set myself up to fail.8

Sue Happiest of belated Birthdays!! Sorry, I forgot to wish you a happy birthday when I read it the other day...I have been bad about trying to remember things instead of taking notes. I should know better! No memory after brain injury!
Regarding the comments on my rough day:
Margaret I'm pretty sure it's MFP...Heather and I couldn't get messages to each other either.
So impressed with how well people did in January. I am still waiting for the pounds to fall off, but I have heard the last 10 are the toughest. Not ready to cut calories back yet. Still feeling too hungry!
