Beth I hear you about those state taxes, ouch
The MRI I had yesterday showed degeneration of C-4 and C-5 but not enough to cause my numbness, just wear and tear. But the MRI spotted nodules on my thyroid so back I go for an ultra sound I am ever so slowly recognizing that walking and eating right is not be enough to truly be fit, I've got to add weights, start small I know, but add some strength training to my life, this is a foreign land for me and I know many of you lovely ladies will give me sound advice on this area. I am looking forward to a week's vacation soon, and will set myself up for a new routine to add to the treadmill habit.

Beth - glad you liked my cheese falling off my cracker. One of my favorite Southern sayings, and honestly a little hard to find a place to use it.
Work stuff again:
Beth, Karen VA and everyone, thanks for the good words on the work thing. I hate losing my cool on a Monday morning - it does not set the week off very well. And I REALLY hate the way I lose my cool. I would much prefer to be haughty, maybe even develop a posh accent, and say things like, "Well, I NEVer!" in tones of absolute disdain.
Yeah, no. That ain't happening.
NYKaren - hope the remaining tests are good. You've had enough already.
Katla - Glad Jake's tests went well.
Love y'all,
Lisa in AR4 -
Lisa in AR: DH hasn't had tests recently, and he is not named Jake. He had a colonoscopy last fall and although he has digestive challenges, there was nothing scary in the test results. I'll bet you're thinking of Barbie's Jake, who has had tests recently.1

Had an email today from my difficult friend to say she has 4 tickets for a theatre matinee in March and would all the 'girls' like to come and stay in her London apartment. I decided to be the bigger person and said yes. I normally stay in a hotel so that I don't have to see too much of her, but she has been more bearable lately. My Portsmouth friend is going. Unfortunately my Glasgow friend can't make it this time.
I'm almost looking forward to it. Haven't been to the theatre in ages as DH doesn't like enclosed spaces.
My friend is improved because she has a grandchild and is expecting another one imminently. Her health isn't good because she is very overweight around the abdomen. I am very fond of her because of our shared history from schooldays, but she can be mega annoying. I'm sure it will all be fine. Of course she is annoying me already by asking me to think of places for dinner.
DH still mulling over options.

Cathy AMAZING transformation! You have done an terrific job. You look SO happy and healthy!
Happy Birthday Week Kylia!!
Flea So sad about your puppy. I don’t handle losing animals well. I feel for everyone who is going through this!! My Doggies are my kids since the kids have moved on.
Michele Message me when you return from FL and we will make arrangements to meet up if the weather permits. It’s been so mild; I keep expecting a big snow. That snow last week was a pleasant surprise. I was out in it with a friend and we really enjoyed it. I kept singing Christmas songs…lol.
I start babysitting my sweet Iris full time next week! So excited and hoping my body is up to it!! I pulled a muscle in my back on the way to church Sunday night. I ended up barely able to sit for the Superbowl party (squirmy from pain). Spent yesterday on ice off and on, using Lidoderm patches and even giving in to pain pills. It was horrific. Also, was up all night Sunday in pain. It sucks getting older some days – one false move and down for a day +. Today is still uncomfortable, but not nearly as bad as yesterday. Still wish my body was 20 years younger!!
KJ Love the igloo. Those kids are so blessed!! Looks like fun (I would enjoy it now)!!
Rebecca You go girl!! Impressive self-control with your diet!
Terri I love your Africa bedroom! That wall is especially beautiful!
So grateful for all of you wonderful women!! Luci in WNC

Indeed NYKAREN, it was an experience I shall repeat once a month. Our pilgrimage to the ramen shop is such a treat with my eldest son! I takes me back to when I would take him to the ramen place at the end of the flightline on Atsugi base in Japan.💖. He was 3 and a great slurper! He is now 30 and though he eats a heck of a lot neater, his smile is still the same.😁

Ooh today's meal is wild rice, spinach, wholly guacamole, roast chicken! Then my next snack is yogurt. Then finally at 2:30 I will have more guacamole, Triscuit crackers, and a container of applesauce. I will be happy lady!

Yes it isnt for sleep it's a new antidepressant and I called the drs office and told them I wont be taking that again .
Made me totally loopy and not with it at all.. so left a message with his nurse and she will relay and hopefully be able to find something else that works..
I am out with Trudy.. we are going to happy hour where I will be drinking water thank you very much.no alcohol for awhile3 -
Luci in WNC, awe thank you. Its been surprisingly easy though! I like the fact that my meals are not diety feeling. Just good food. I am doing a intermittent fasting thing, something I thought I would never do, but here I am. I was doing a 18/6 meaning I fast from 6 pm to 12 noon the next day, and my eating window was 12 noon to 6 pm. I noticed that its pretty easy to just eat one main meal, and my fasting hours could go longer. So now I do 21/3, and eat from 12-3. Its been any interesting experience so far.👍

"Todo"s and "done"Done: invest 10 mins cleaning MasterBth, Post Office, Bi Mart, Freddie’s again for probiotic, buy thank you card for CarolynL, drop off Workplace Harassment Policy acknowledgement forms at firehouse, Little Women with Carol.
Bonus: ‘nother load o’ laundry.
ToDo: invest 10 mins cleaning Living Room, enter MEFCU & Thrivent 1099s, chiropractor, call for invoices from Dr and Electrician, more veg prep, write thank you note to Carolyn L, bake bran muffins, call Carolyn D, schedule DEXA scan with CHN, finish tax deductions, call Well Care for TDAP, Shingrix and Joe’s eye drops costs, Line Dance. Next week get complete series TDAP, following week Shingrix vaccine. Reward: inventory seeds, plan garden.
Heather Sounds like you have my problems with accepting/dealing with ambiguity, me too. I like to plan, in detail, Joe rebels against any structure. Perhaps you can run off your frustration? I envy you the walkability and public transit of where you live, but at this time in our lives, would not trade our privacy, peace, lack of neighbors for walkability.
Janet O Hooray for DD’s new job with benefits. That’s HUGE.
Amber whiskey/honey/hot toddie and Vicks in the vaporizer never bred a resistant bug.
Machka would you remind me in which field of study these classes are? Thought it was tech related, but “well worn” powerpoints wouldn’t be adequate for such a rapidly changing field. the wombats.
Katla one side of our house is nearly always 10 degrees cooler than the other, has to do with open slope down to the ocean (cooler) vs sheltered by the forest. What amazes me is that we’ve had NO frost despite temps well below freezing. What gives?
KJ omigosh that igloo. WOW!
Ginny could you try upping the weights for the 1st set, then moving back for the 2nd and 3rd?
Terri “Dust if you must” really resonates. I’m here, scanning the posts instead of seizing the moment Joe and the dogs are away to vacuum. Dust we are indeed, but as Joni Mitchell said, we are STAR dust.
NYKaren “not leading to answers” and monitor/log for 90 days? Soo frustrating. Could it be time for a 2nd opinion?
Pip glad you made the wise choice, don’t want another fall injury. REALLY glad you can bring your bike inside the gym. Win WIN!
Karen in VA thanks for understanding. Bought a cute “Thank you (then inside) very much” card. Now considering just sending it signed with first name, writing no message at all… Amazed and relieved at your partner’s lack of pain.
Margaret Brava! Wise words about micromanagers. And yes, “what is it about NO that you do not understand” helps me too, so long as I don’t say it out loud
Lisa “know how to use words on paper and on screen, but apparently when they're about to fall out of my mouth, they have minds of their own.” Amen, sister, amen. Love “the fell off the cracker” saying too. If it were physically true, I’d be followed by a string of mice, Pied Piper of Hamelin anyone?
Barbie only three “loving suggestions”
Allie fingers Xd for alternative rx. “Medicine head” is so perfectly descriptive.
Beth glad to hear from you but :anger: about those state taxes, and fence expense. Rocky start to the year.
NYKaren hoping the ultrasound gives good news. Strenghth training can be done with your own body weight (Better Bones and Balance) or with ankle weights and dumb bells (Strong Women Stay Young). Classes work best for me, I lack the internal discipline to exercise at home, but with your schedule… You can do this!
Rebecca your description of that pork made my mouth water.
Been sittin’ long enough, time to get up and after some of those “To Do”s

Barbara - I'm not really frustrated, just uncomprehending. Of course, if it's a cruise he decides on, we have to book toute suite. We both felt that we had been depending on our cruises too much and needed to do something else for a change.
When I lived in the countryside, I was plagued by noise! Weed whackers, chain saws, builders extending already huge houses, dogs endlessly barking, tractors harvesting, ducks quacking, cockerels, quad bikes, unfriendly farmers, grass being mowed etc etc etc. Here we have peace and quiet and privacy. I have stayed in the countryside many times on holiday and had my peace and quiet ruined by dogs barking and agricultural noise like tree cutting. The town is much quieter! Just a few sparrows tweeting and the occasional bark of a fox.

OK folks, I was just idly looking at the Saga River Cruises, and decided to check the dates of the ones down the Douro river in Portugal to see if they were going around DHs birthday. Yes they were! 7 days. Flying from our local airport. Good time of day. They take you to the airport. I looked a bit further. This is a trip we have often said we would love to do. Found a decent cabin, twin, on the top deck. Showed it all to DH. He was delighted and said YES straightaway!!!
Booked.
Wow!

It's IT.
I got a Software Development Certificate (a year-long course) in Canada which I did by evening classes between 2000 and 2003 ...
The stuff we're being taught now is very similar to what I learned then. In one case, I was reading a chapter of a book the instructor had posted for us when it suddenly dawn on me that I have the book ... it was a textbook for one of the courses I took between 2000 and 2003.
In the course before the one I'm currently in, the instructor spent 2 or 3 lectures talking about input devices (mice, keyboards, microphones, etc. etc.) which was almost word-for-word what I learned in my very first course of the Software Development Certificate in 2000.
In another course, we were being taught a way of doing things which I remembered I strongly disliked in the SD Certificate courses and which I've never used in any of the IT work I've done. In fact, I asked about it where I'm working now and got blank looks. It's just not used. It wasn't used back in 2000 and it isn't used now. Then I looked up the date of the articles we were meant to read about it, and they were all late 1990s. I gave that course a poor review!
Fortunately some classes have dealt with more current things ... and the whole area of knowledge management has been very interesting for me.

Lisa LOL it might give you a giggle to mix a few haughty posh phrases in with the enraged stuff. Just don't let anybody hear you or they'll think you've gone over the edge.
Heather How great that you & your husband could decide on a mutually agreeable birthday plan! Sounds like a lot of fun.
Barbie You made me chuckle about your husband giving loving suggestions about your driving in the snow. I suspect you are quite a competent driver but it never hurts to get input from a husband with anesthesia brain.

Had a great 5th grade class. A young man in the class had a one on one aide due to behavior. I made a point to tell him he asked good questions, I tried to give him pointers in drawing, and I caught him getting his pencils ready for tomorrow. In this school they practice 7 healthy habits. The first one is to be proactive so I gave him a acknowledgement of getting himself ready for the next day. He was so pleased to be recognized he gave me a hug. He also muttered how dumb he is. As he was leaving I told him when I see him again I want to hear him to be saying how smart he is.
This is why I keep subbing in the classrooms. When I help a child who is struggling to have good days at school has a good day that makes my day. Does this always happen no. When it does makes it a special day. NSV11 -
Snowing here and sticking on the lawn and driveway. Roads are still clear. Poor Nessa got groomed today. I think she will be cold tonight as she is no longer a fuzzy bear but has quite short hair. I have been trying to stretch my horizons a bit this year so I started chair yoga the first of January. I was also able to find someone to go with me to the symphony this coming Sunday and in the future. She also has lost her DH and her kids are not interested in classical music either so this will be good for both of us I think. Now I am thinking about taking a class to learn to play the ukulele. One of our choir members is offering it after church services on Sundays. I hear learning a new instrument is good for your brain. We will see.
Pip - You rock the logging girl! Sorry about your bike things being stolen. Glad you will have a safer place to keep it.
Terri - Love the dust poem.
Heather - Yay for a decision.
Lisa - Sorry about the rocky start to your week.
KJ - Love the igloo!
Everyone take care, Sue in WA5 -
KJ: I designed and painted the mural. DH made me the headboard. I have matching fabric for curtains, if I ever get round to making them. Lol!
Much love to all.
(((Hugs))) if you need them.
Enjoy what remains of your day

Heather So glad you found a good birthday trip for DH!
Allie Sorry they take advantage of you so much at work!!
Because Althena and Lilliana always make me smile; Iris is 6 weeks now:
Sue Glad you are going to the symphony and taking the ukulele is a great idea! I’ve always read great things about musical instruments and the brain improvement they provide. I have got to start playing again!

Beth, I’m so sorry about the shock on the taxes. That happened to us Dave’s first year on Social Security because we thought, incorrectly, that SS was not taxed. It is not taxed in GA but it surely is taxed by Uncle Sam. I did our taxes today, too. For once, we are getting a refund.

There has been a class at the clubhouse in my neighborhood called "Fit and Fall Proof". Many of my dog walking friends take the class and have said great things about it. I have been telling myself for the three months since it started that I might want to go but didn't go until today. It took me that long to analyze the road blocks and figure out how to get around them. Jake went to the class with me and it enjoyed it. It included stretching and a lot of movement with different body parts, very light hand weights, a playground ball, and resistance bands. There was a musical background, a lot of laughter, reminders to not over do anything, no getting down on the ground, and a short meditation at the end. The class is Tuesday and Friday mornings. I can't go on Fridays because of my line dance class and on Tuesdays I'll have to shorten Sasha's walk to get to class. The longest journey starts with a single step, so I'm pretty pleased with myself for getting there today. I made up for shortening Sasha's morning walk by walking her for 40 minutes after class and again for over an hour after lunch.
Heather, I'm glad you were able to find a good choice for your husband's birthday.

I've found that dogs endlessly bark in the city but not so much in the country ... or at least in the country they might be a kilometre away, not 4 feet away barking at the top of their lungs ALL day long. We've got one right behind us that does that, then he sets off another one across the way who also has a very loud bark and the two of them just don't stop.
As far as agricultural noises (cows, birds, sheep, distant dogs occasionally giving a woof, mowing grass, plowing, irrigation systems, etc., etc.) ...........
I would much rather have all of that than the revving motorcycles and speeding cars with no mufflers trying to lay tracks of rubber all over the road in front of the house and several of the surrounding roads. Or the cars that come out after dark when it rains and try to skid sideways down the hill ... I've had to ring triple 0 on a couple of them when they've plowed into fences, trees, etc. Plus chainsaws cutting branches off trees lest they fall on someone walking through the nearby reserve. Plus those dogs. And the people ... in towns/cities there are people everywhere you look.
We go to a favourite place up north 2 or 3 times a year where we're surrounding by agricultural peacefulness and hardly a sound of a motor vehicle, dog, chainsaw or person. I relax there.

Barbara: I was amazed with the frost this morning. The mulch bed at the edge of the lawn had frost. The lawn right next to the mulch bed had no frost at all. :noway:
Sue in WA: Chair yoga is great for DH. I’ve gone with him a few times and enjoyed it. It sounds like you are enjoying it, too.
Machka: Your agricultural retreat sounds lovely. :flowerforyou:
This has been a grocery shopping and stay close to home sort of day. Tomorrow the dog goes to the groomer and I have yoga. We also have an appointment with our financial advisor. This is a new person for us. The one before moved to a different company. We really trusted her and having someone else could be fine, and also could be disappointing. We’ll have to see what happens.

I was still in shock when I went to bed at having made such a decision late at night. I had to read until 1.30 in order to calm down, I was so excited! I read two short books about Norway, where we are going next.
We've never been on a river cruise before, but the Douro has been on both our bucket lists for ages and it's a good time of year. I'm not good in high heat. For those who don't know, it's a long river, with the mouth at Oporto, and is famous for producing Port wine. The banks are covered in vineyards and old towns and wine houses. At the far end of the river it starts in Spain and there is a trip to Salamanca, a very picturesque old town with an ancient university. I have often heard about it as one if my friends went to the university.
Also, now I'm an old lady, I like the flights at 3pm, a civilised time, and the fact that they chauffeur you to the airport etc.
Very happy and DH is very happy.
I speak Spanish and have, in the past, made an attempt at Portuguese which was ok. I will brush up a few polite phrases, but won't need them, I'm sure.
It was weird though, making that decision, all within 20 minutes of looking for the first time.

Barbie That class sounds fun and congratulations for getting there especially since it involved road blocks.
Machka Your favorite place up north sounds idyllic. When I go home to visit in Nebraska, I fly to Denver & rent a car. It used to be as soon as I got to the plains I would feel the weight of the world fall away. Plains & blue sky & cows. It was so peaceful & felt entirely welcoming.
Katla I hope your financial advisor will be knowledgeable & reassuring. It's important to feel right - the first financial advisor I had took advantage of my naivete and made choices that were good for him. I figured it out reading books like Smart Women Finish Rich and others. To his credit, he did sell me an excellent disability policy. Fortunately, I have never had to use it, but the money I spent on that each year gave me peace of mind.
Luci More. More pictures of Iris. Pretty please.
Sue You are nothing short of inspiring. For some reason your plan to learn to play ukulele particularly tickled me. Love it.
Terri And you, with that appealing African mural! We obviously have some talented women in our group.
Allie I hate it when you suffer. You need a nurturer.
Dr. Katie & Beth Oh, man. I'm just going to assume all income is taxed by both state & federal when I plan for retirement. Thanks for helping me avoid any rude surprises. Ugh.
Karen in Virginia5 -
Heather - my husband and I have looked at the river cruises more than once. They look lovely, both relaxing and beautiful scenery. I know you love ocean cruises as well, but they don't hold much appeal for either one of us.
Margaret - loved your NSV.
Karen in VA - Your Liliana looks sweet, but the look on your face is just as sweet.
Insomnia has me up early and cogitating, so I'll get some work done. Not worry or stress, I might add, just wide awake.
Don't think I mentioned that I've apparently strained a muscle at my chest wall on the right. It's not painful most of the time, although it started out quite painful. It's just twingy and blinky. I may end up wearing two bras to keep the movement to a minimum. Grf. If it ain't one thing, it's something entirely different.
Later, y'all,
Love,
Lisa in AR7
