Nice thing--in Rome our taxi drivers have been out of work for 2 weeks (no tourists and people staying home). On the news it just said that they are volunteering to transport doctors and nurses back and forth from work for free. Love you guys!21

Woolworths grocery stores here in Australia are dedicating one hour from 7-8 am for elderly and carers etc to shop.
Also meals on wheels ( a service that provides food to the elderly at home) are including some tp with their delivery.12 -
A few have mentioned the current state of their exercise regimen. It's a distraction and can be good for mental (and physical of course) health.
Having gotten in the habit of a home bodyweight workout is coming in handy right now. I've jokingly called it a prison workout (bodyweight squats, push-ups, lunges, dumbbell rows, plank) but it really does allow you to get a good solid workout under almost any circumstances. Like the current ones in our world. If you're up to it of course.
My gym is one of the few still open and according to the guy I talked to they don't plan on closing. I went crazy with Clorox wipes there the other day and would love to go but am thinking of the big picture and staying home. I've done videos on the app Fit On and my gym has an app but prefer using my laptop so I'm finding videos on You Tube and setting up a plan for today. I don't have the heavier weights I'd need but will make do. I usually do planks, side planks, sit ups, and other body weight exercises and have a built a lot of strength the last few months doing those. I think the hardest part is deciding on just a couple to do as there's such a huge variety to chose from.2 -

Also a bit of fresh air and exercise helps with anxiety, depression. So yeah get outside if at all possible at least 20 minutes a day.

unfortunately it's been cold and rainy for the last week here
It's raining here too, I put some seedlings out when it was upper 70s and they were hammered by hail, didn't even think of them with all that's going on. It would otherwise be a great time to garden and go for a walk.2 -

Welp... the gyms I belong to closed today. Was planning on using my apartment's... just got an email that they are closing that too. So looks like I'll be running outside and doing body weight stuff. yikes9 -

Any advice?
She’s a grownup.
I can’t say why she’s going out, but I am a stay-at-home 70 year old. When I get lonely, I get depressed. I know there will come a time when I’d rather take a chance then get any more depressed.
Try things to lift her spirits. E- mail her jokes. Think of a funny story to tell her before you call. Can you FaceTime her? Or something similar? Get her interested in Facebook? Words with friends? Books on tape? Or whatever it’s called now. Anyway, interaction with people from home.
Suggest she organize a phone chain for her single friends?
I understand she is an adult and can make her own decisions. She is married, but my dad is in the hospital with Flu and pneumonia.... She was going out today to get milk and take her taxes to be prepared. Her sister lives next door - so she has a companion. She reads books, but does not use any electronic device.
I must take this day by day for my sanity.
I hear ya! My mom is 82 and I've only recently been able to talk her out of cleaning gutters. She decided to stop going to the gym on her own.
Her library has staff available on Tuesdays to help with reading devices like Kindles which has been wonderful because guess who does tech support normally? (That was a general comment, not a corona virus related suggestion.)
Best wishes for your parents.11 -

We've had really great weather here which means I've been doing too much walking, which is hard on my knee. That ends tonight, so I'll be able to do some strength training and yoga over the next few days.5 -
MikePfirrman wrote: »Potential great news but it's too early to tell if this will work. I'm hearing of rapid potential treatments, not vaccines. One is the one Snowflake mentioned around a week ago -- the RA drug which slows the progression in the lungs. This other one, which slows the replication of the virus, might show a lot more promise. It was developed for Ebola.
https://www.biopharmadive.com/news/coronavirus-remdesivir-gilead-antiviral-drug-covid-19/573261/
There's also another strategy I've heard of as well. They take the antibodies from those that have had it and recovered and administer them to people that haven't had it yet. That would be a longer term play, though.
It's not they won't find a vaccine, I think they will, but these are strategies meant to minimize deaths until we find a vaccine. World wide, pharmaceutical companies are working hard to find solutions.
The RA drug is hydroxychloroquine, otherwise known as Plaquenil. I've been on it since 2004. The data coming out of China and S Korea as far as the impact of the drug on COVID-19 is very encouraging, both as a treatment to lessen severity, and as prophylactic. They really need to speed up the evaluatory process of that one. Hydroxychloroquine is generic, cheap, and widely/easily available - a paradigm shift from the whole "18 months to develop a vaccine" mantra, although it is not a vaccine.
The notion that something good might come from having the disease process that led to being on the drug all these years is so twistedly ironic and bizarre I can't even describe it. I've got family members hounding me for a handful or two of those things.
I'm actually reading about five different ones at the same time. They aren't a vaccine, so it doesn't really change the time frame for vaccines (though I've read they just skipped the animal testing, going straight to human trials on vaccines). What the RA pills do is reduce your immune system, which isn't great for prevention of the COVID-19. But when it attacks the lungs, there's a cytokine storm, where you immune system attacks itself and (from a very layman's perspective), what's left of your lungs turn to fluid and you can't breathe. The RA meds are for those that progress to the stage where the lungs are filling with fluid. That can stop that enough until you recover.6 -
@Chef_Barbell Wow....so weird. My son lives there and last I heard he was till having to go to work. I am fully convinced that he will be getting it. This mama bear is not pleased4

I'm home indefinitely too. They are telling us MAYBE May 1st we'll be back. I work with specialized equipment, so there is not much I can do from home. But my boss is telling me I should spend my time doing online tutorials and learning new software, so I guess I'll do that.
Fortunately, I'm pretty flexible. I'll just miss my nifty second monitor.
We got to bring home 2 monitors each. So with the laptop, I still have 3. Not as good as my set up AT work, but a lot better then trying to do it all laptop only. THAT would have been impossible.
So I am officially work from home until who knows when. The Governor declared that as many state employees as possible need to remote work for the time being. Some can't. They literally can not do their jobs from home but we can't have them NOT doing their jobs. So they will most likely have to go in still, but having everyone who can be gone actually helps those people as well.
Indiana is also closing all restaurants, bars, and nightclubs to dine in. Only pick up and delivery will be allowed. We had our first death today as well. Male in his 60's with medical problems that made the virus worse for him.

Ohio closed bars, gyms, trampoline parks and indoor water parks. Oh, and movie theatres.5

I've been home, Vancouver Wa about 3 hours south of Seattle, since last thursday with fever, dry cough, and fatigue with no snot/phlegm. Can't get a test of course. I'm surviving. Had plenty at home, and had someone drop off a few extras for me (on the porch and then messaged me when they got back to their car). I look forward to the time that I'm worried about what exercise I can do at home. I'm hoping that this stays low level "kitten"-y and doesn't take a turn for the worst. I'm hoping that I didn't get anyone sick, if indeed this is corona, before I showed symptoms.
Went to work, had a great run, then started feeling crappy while having dinner with one of my best friends. Next day, I had a fever, and here I am. Just like that. I'm 30 and had been washing my hands, and wiping things down so much that my hands were starting to crack, and yet here I am.
Course by the time I can escape isolation, there will be no where left to go. All restaurants, bars, my work, my gym, and my martial arts studio are all closed now. Not saying that's a bad thing, but it sure is bleak.29 -
USA 🇺🇸 President guidelines just announced;UK announced theirs too but I could only watch 1.

I’ve got a slight sore throat today. I’ve been taking Zicam and cough drops today. I grocery shopped on Saturday. No cases in my county or adjacent county I shop in. I’m retired (husband is still working, cases in that county, but none of his coworkers have it) and that’s pretty much the only place I’ve been in the past 10 days. Hopefully it’s a regular cold🤞🏻16

Connecticut is closing all bars, restaurants, gyms, movie theaters, etc. Recommending gatherings of less than 50. Restaurants may only sell take out/delivery.
The state also ordered all casinos to close, but Mohegan and Foxwoods are sovereign nations(tribal law), and do not need to follow Connecticut law. Mohegan Sun has announced its process to closing(they're running one gaming area from what I understand). They have already closed many areas of the casino. Foxwoods doesnt appear to be planning on taking any action towards closing, but I could be wrong! We are currently at 26 infected, but who knows where that number truly is now, as it has been there since last night. Edit: our total is now at 41, governor updated a few minutes ago
One of my coworkers left work this morning, two hours after starting his shift due to breathing problems... they ordered him to stay out of work until the 30th. I don't know if he was tested, and I am getting to be on edge...
As crappy as this whole situation is, I feel better reading what all of you have to say all over the world. We are all going through this right now, and none of us are alone in this. We can learn from others, and hopefully change the course of this!
Here is a picture I found on facebook. It kind of gives an idea of why we really need to just spread out to help everyone else. Another perspective.

Walmart isn't delivering or allowing any advance choice, of future delivery dates & my local grocery store's time slots're sold out, through March 22nd.4

I hope you feel better soon. If it's any consolation during these unsettling times, I've heard lots of reports that it's unusual for a sore throat to be the first symptom. Only 14% of patients even reported having a sore throat over the entire course of their illness. 💙6 -
I just cannot believe we're at the point of mandatory shelter-in-place in California for six million people.
That's really frikkin' scary, ya'll.
I can't even imagine...I mean, I could do it...but wow.8 -
Reporting from just outside Atlanta. Our confirmed cases are now in the triple digits with the one death being the only one thus far. One of the early confirmed patients is deemed recovered and should be released from quarantine this week. I went to Kroger today to pick up my elderly aunt's thyroid medication for her. Right now myself, my brother and sister-in-law are doing essential errand running, since we're the youngest and in the best health. Today I wore disposable gloves to the grocery store and saw many others doing the same. Friday I'm going to attempt to grocery shop for two weeks worth of groceries, but doubt I'll get my hands on toilet paper or paper towel.
In other news, my husband works at a factory with over 1,000 people. I'm guessing it's only a matter of time. I'm trying to not worry too much, but it's still unsettling.13 -
This is what's happening in San Francisco and surrounding counties. My daughter is in SF and already in isolation because of being sick, although she did test negative. Her husband is now how with her too.
San Francisco and surrounding counties totaling 6.7 million people will prohibit anyone from leaving their homes "except for essential needs" beginning at midnight Monday night.
San Francisco Mayor London Breed said at a news conference that the drastic steps are meant to slow the spread of the coronavirus.
“The new public health order that we’re announcing will require San Franciscans to remain at home with exceptions only for essential outings,” she said. “These measures will be disruptive to daily life, but there is no need to panic.”
It's the largest city to impose an in-home curfew or other stay-home order in the United States so far. Similar orders will apply in several Bay Area counties until April 7, she said, though she added that date could change depending on the advice of health officials.
Pharmacies, grocery stores, banks, gas stations and essential government services will remain open, as will restaurants but for takeout and delivery orders only, Breed said. Bars and gyms will close. “Your garbage will be picked up,” she said.

Finally closed my gym. I was surprised they waited as long as they did.8

Beka3695 - I can understand why your mom went out. We went to Walmart today to pick up a prescription and a few other things (still no TP) and just washed our hands afterwards. The kind of errands your mom was doing shouldn't put her at much risk, unless someone coughs on her.
I have read that several places are requiring everyone to 'shelter in place' which includes not walking or running outside. I also read that our Governor has closed the state parks, including hiking trails. Given the benefits of spending time outdoors, I don't understand. What is the rationale for that? An individual walking or running alone shouldn't be at risk or pose much risk to anyone else.8 -

In my state it's just visitor centers/facilities that are closing, not the trails. Thank goodness for my sanity!
Well, I don't access mine through the main entrance anyway, so if it were closed I wouldn't know. On that side of the park, I rarely see another person during the week.

My parents are in their mid 70s and I typically go over twice a week to have dinner with them. Should I stop going? I can't tell if I'm being cavalier to go over or being overly anxious to not visit them the whole time this is going on. I know they'll say to come over, that's just how they are!18

Where is the disconnect from reality at this point?? Defiance of social distancing is not some admirable display of rebellion, it is sad and selfish.
Governor of KY had to place a police officer at the door of someone that refused to self-quarantine.
We may need to push for a law for people like this to be IVC to an isolation room at their expense. I know that is extreme, even to me as I wrote it, but maybe charging people with assault or attempted something if they don’t stay home. I just can’t even with people like this! LEOs have other things to do and shouldn’t have to babysit an idiot like that. 🤬
My bestie is one of the side that is of the opinion that being on the social distancing train is overreacting. I imagine she will understand my point of view when I don’t go to the dining room with her for lunch when she returns to work tomorrow.
Hell, imagine her shock when she sees the cafeteria the way it was today! (As I was leaving work, one of my team texted me and said they have closed the cafeteria to the general public.) Also, the one door I enter through isn’t the only door requiring badges to enter. All but the main, ER and Admitting enterences are now badge access only.
*kitten* is getting real in my area.
Because I’d prefer to start bringing lunch (even a $2.99 Lean Cuisine is cheaper than the $7.99 I paid for my less than mediocre lunch today) and I am out of bubble bath, which I know sounds really minor to many, but an adult bevy and a bubble bath chill me out like nobody’s business, I had to stop at the grocery store on the way home. I also had hoped to pick up a can of Lysol, but 😂. Thanks, hoarders! 🤦🏼♀️ Holy crap! Social distancing, my *kitten*! I was in line (self checkout) for what seemed like forever. I was tenth in line, but, there are six scanning stations, and most in line only had a handful of items. The checkouts had baskets FULL, lined into the aisles.
I felt soooo dirty by the time I got home after running to the liquor store and filling my car up at a glorious $1.74.9/gallon that I raced to the sink, washed my hands (for the 18th or 19th time today) and antibacterial wiped my phone, debit card and hospital badge.
I’m glad to be home! ❤️8 -

IMO it's better to play it safe. I know you all probably love these times of getting together but I also can imagine how badly you'd feel if, God forbid, they got it. My sister told me to not visit for a couple weeks; I usually see her 3-4x a week to help her with her dh who has Alzheimer's. She's on her own through this and I feel really bad but it's her request so need to honor it.
I know it's a difficult decision. Many are having to make difficult decisions, especially when it comes to staying away from family.
Take care, stay well!!16
