Nice thing--in Rome our taxi drivers have been out of work for 2 weeks (no tourists and people staying home). On the news it just said that they are volunteering to transport doctors and nurses back and forth from work for free. Love you guys!21

Woolworths grocery stores here in Australia are dedicating one hour from 7-8 am for elderly and carers etc to shop.
Also meals on wheels ( a service that provides food to the elderly at home) are including some tp with their delivery.12 -
A few have mentioned the current state of their exercise regimen. It's a distraction and can be good for mental (and physical of course) health.
Having gotten in the habit of a home bodyweight workout is coming in handy right now. I've jokingly called it a prison workout (bodyweight squats, push-ups, lunges, dumbbell rows, plank) but it really does allow you to get a good solid workout under almost any circumstances. Like the current ones in our world. If you're up to it of course.
My gym is one of the few still open and according to the guy I talked to they don't plan on closing. I went crazy with Clorox wipes there the other day and would love to go but am thinking of the big picture and staying home. I've done videos on the app Fit On and my gym has an app but prefer using my laptop so I'm finding videos on You Tube and setting up a plan for today. I don't have the heavier weights I'd need but will make do. I usually do planks, side planks, sit ups, and other body weight exercises and have a built a lot of strength the last few months doing those. I think the hardest part is deciding on just a couple to do as there's such a huge variety to chose from.2 -

I am not sure and the evidence is not in for covid-19 but Vitamin D in normal get some sun every day levels been shown to help immune system fight off other viruses. Also a bit of fresh air and exercise helps with anxiety, depression. So yeah get outside if at all possible at least 20 minutes a day.
I think there's a link to how gardening is good for the immune system somewhere in the gardening thread: https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10708195/garden-thread
unfortunately it's been cold and rainy for the last week here
It's raining here too, I put some seedlings out when it was upper 70s and they were hammered by hail, didn't even think of them with all that's going on. It would otherwise be a great time to garden and go for a walk.2 -

Welp... the gyms I belong to closed today. Was planning on using my apartment's... just got an email that they are closing that too. So looks like I'll be running outside and doing body weight stuff. yikes9 -

Any advice?
She’s a grownup.
I can’t say why she’s going out, but I am a stay-at-home 70 year old. When I get lonely, I get depressed. I know there will come a time when I’d rather take a chance then get any more depressed.
Try things to lift her spirits. E- mail her jokes. Think of a funny story to tell her before you call. Can you FaceTime her? Or something similar? Get her interested in Facebook? Words with friends? Books on tape? Or whatever it’s called now. Anyway, interaction with people from home.
Suggest she organize a phone chain for her single friends?
I understand she is an adult and can make her own decisions. She is married, but my dad is in the hospital with Flu and pneumonia.... She was going out today to get milk and take her taxes to be prepared. Her sister lives next door - so she has a companion. She reads books, but does not use any electronic device.
I must take this day by day for my sanity.
I hear ya! My mom is 82 and I've only recently been able to talk her out of cleaning gutters. She decided to stop going to the gym on her own.
Her library has staff available on Tuesdays to help with reading devices like Kindles which has been wonderful because guess who does tech support normally? (That was a general comment, not a corona virus related suggestion.)
Best wishes for your parents.11 -

We've had really great weather here which means I've been doing too much walking, which is hard on my knee. That ends tonight, so I'll be able to do some strength training and yoga over the next few days.5 -

One is the one Snowflake mentioned around a week ago -- the RA drug which slows the progression in the lungs. This other one, which slows the replication of the virus, might show a lot more promise. It was developed for Ebola.

There's also another strategy I've heard of as well. They take the antibodies from those that have had it and recovered and administer them to people that haven't had it yet. That would be a longer term play, though.
It's not they won't find a vaccine, I think they will, but these are strategies meant to minimize deaths until we find a vaccine. World wide, pharmaceutical companies are working hard to find solutions.
The RA drug is hydroxychloroquine, otherwise known as Plaquenil. I've been on it since 2004. The data coming out of China and S Korea as far as the impact of the drug on COVID-19 is very encouraging, both as a treatment to lessen severity, and as prophylactic. They really need to speed up the evaluatory process of that one. Hydroxychloroquine is generic, cheap, and widely/easily available - a paradigm shift from the whole "18 months to develop a vaccine" mantra, although it is not a vaccine.
The notion that something good might come from having the disease process that led to being on the drug all these years is so twistedly ironic and bizarre I can't even describe it. I've got family members hounding me for a handful or two of those things.
I'm actually reading about five different ones at the same time. They aren't a vaccine, so it doesn't really change the time frame for vaccines (though I've read they just skipped the animal testing, going straight to human trials on vaccines). What the RA pills do is reduce your immune system, which isn't great for prevention of the COVID-19. But when it attacks the lungs, there's a cytokine storm, where you immune system attacks itself and (from a very layman's perspective), what's left of your lungs turn to fluid and you can't breathe. The RA meds are for those that progress to the stage where the lungs are filling with fluid. That can stop that enough until you recover.6 -

I'm home indefinitely too. They are telling us MAYBE May 1st we'll be back. I work with specialized equipment, so there is not much I can do from home. But my boss is telling me I should spend my time doing online tutorials and learning new software, so I guess I'll do that.
Fortunately, I'm pretty flexible. I'll just miss my nifty second monitor.
We got to bring home 2 monitors each. So with the laptop, I still have 3. Not as good as my set up AT work, but a lot better then trying to do it all laptop only. THAT would have been impossible.
So I am officially work from home until who knows when. The Governor declared that as many state employees as possible need to remote work for the time being. Some can't. They literally can not do their jobs from home but we can't have them NOT doing their jobs. So they will most likely have to go in still, but having everyone who can be gone actually helps those people as well.
Indiana is also closing all restaurants, bars, and nightclubs to dine in. Only pick up and delivery will be allowed. We had our first death today as well. Male in his 60's with medical problems that made the virus worse for him.

Ohio closed bars, gyms, trampoline parks and indoor water parks. Oh, and movie theatres.5

I've been home, Vancouver Wa about 3 hours south of Seattle, since last thursday with fever, dry cough, and fatigue with no snot/phlegm. Can't get a test of course. I'm surviving. Had plenty at home, and had someone drop off a few extras for me (on the porch and then messaged me when they got back to their car). I look forward to the time that I'm worried about what exercise I can do at home. I'm hoping that this stays low level "kitten"-y and doesn't take a turn for the worst. I'm hoping that I didn't get anyone sick, if indeed this is corona, before I showed symptoms.
Went to work, had a great run, then started feeling crappy while having dinner with one of my best friends. Next day, I had a fever, and here I am. Just like that. I'm 30 and had been washing my hands, and wiping things down so much that my hands were starting to crack, and yet here I am.
Course by the time I can escape isolation, there will be no where left to go. All restaurants, bars, my work, my gym, and my martial arts studio are all closed now. Not saying that's a bad thing, but it sure is bleak.29 -
USA 🇺🇸 President guidelines just announced;UK announced theirs too but I could only watch 1.

I’ve got a slight sore throat today. I’ve been taking Zicam and cough drops today. I grocery shopped on Saturday. No cases in my county or adjacent county I shop in. I’m retired (husband is still working, cases in that county, but none of his coworkers have it) and that’s pretty much the only place I’ve been in the past 10 days. Hopefully it’s a regular cold🤞🏻16

Connecticut is closing all bars, restaurants, gyms, movie theaters, etc. Recommending gatherings of less than 50. Restaurants may only sell take out/delivery.
The state also ordered all casinos to close, but Mohegan and Foxwoods are sovereign nations(tribal law), and do not need to follow Connecticut law. Mohegan Sun has announced its process to closing(they're running one gaming area from what I understand). They have already closed many areas of the casino. Foxwoods doesnt appear to be planning on taking any action towards closing, but I could be wrong! We are currently at 26 infected, but who knows where that number truly is now, as it has been there since last night. Edit: our total is now at 41, governor updated a few minutes ago
One of my coworkers left work this morning, two hours after starting his shift due to breathing problems... they ordered him to stay out of work until the 30th. I don't know if he was tested, and I am getting to be on edge...
As crappy as this whole situation is, I feel better reading what all of you have to say all over the world. We are all going through this right now, and none of us are alone in this. We can learn from others, and hopefully change the course of this!
Here is a picture I found on facebook. It kind of gives an idea of why we really need to just spread out to help everyone else. Another perspective.
