JUST GIVE ME 10 DAYS ~ ROUND 109
Replies
-
Looking forward:
- March: I need to focus on getting back to where I was pre-Christmas
- 2020: Goal is to stabilise weight around 145
- Strengthen strategies to reframe the tendency to use unhealthy snack food as a reward/treat.
- Make sure I have prepared healthy snacks available
- Cut down on eating between meals
Back Story:2018:2020
My goal was to get down below 160, to allow me to enjoy the indulgences of holidays and celebrations.
2019:
I exceeded that and have been below 150 for most of the last 2 months.
In 2018, I put on 10 lbs over the last 2 months of the year.
In 2019, I consistently lost weight since the end of July. I put on about 4lbs over the Christmas break, but was still below my original 2019 goal.
That's a WIN in my book!
Focus: maintenance! I might even manage to lose a bit more ever so slowly.

THERE ARE NO QUICK FIXES OR SHORTCUTS to achieving permanent change.
REMINDERS One or two thoughts which might give heart to some of you.- Daily weight fluctuations are normal, and can be as much as 2 lbs a day for no apparent reason.
- A general downward trend is what we are looking for.
- Eating out can cause apparent weight gain because of high sodium levels, but usually goes quickly. Drinking extra water helps with this.
- The human body does not react instantly to what we do to it. Sometimes it can take several days to see results.
- Plateaus are a normal part of the process. The body is consolidating and adapting to your new way of eating/exercising.
- The closer you get to your goal weight, the more difficult it becomes to lose weight, as your body becomes more efficient at using what you feed it.
- When you exercise you build muscle, which takes up less space than fat, so use measurements as well as weight to assess your progress.
- Getting/Staying fit and healthy requires a lifestyle change for most people.

Hi, I’m Karen and I’m in my 50’s
OSW-187 Sept. 2018
Walk +/- 7 miles 4 x week. Goal Weight this Round: 152
Drink plenty of water, alcohol on weekends
SW-54
3/28-154-I know it will take me a long time to get out of the 150’s. I haven’t weighed this little in over 10 years. I’m keeping myself busy quilting, cleaning and walking during this time. This stay at home thing isn’t bad for a quilter. I just like going to the quilt shop for the social aspect; most Quilter’s have a “stash” of fabric and projects. A lot of them are making face masks, as long as they have elastic. I started my first day of “physical therapy “ yesterday at the chiropractor; a young guy smashed into the back of my car as I was coming to a stop a few days ago. I believe this will be an easy fix, it will just take time. By yesterday, I was able to walk about 4 miles and I will get back into sewing today. It’s all part of life. Glad to see all of you here!💚☕️
3/29-156-comfort food yesterday, but got all 7 miles in and my lower back is sore this morning. Glad to be in 150’s. It’s all good.
3/30-154-Careful eating, but no walk. Hmmmm. A walk for sure today...It’s Monday, here we go!☕️
3/31-157- Made creamed spinach; it has bacon, had salmon too....and some chocolate. Back on the wagon today!11 -

▪3/30 - 186.6 - 83g carbs. 2 meals (3:30, 7:30) Maryland residents are now under a Stay At Home Order effective at 8pm tonight.
▪3/31 - 185 - 137g carbs. OMAD. 7pm. I haven't posted anything about my family members and who we know that has become ill with this virus. A family friend of ours is ill and currently in the hospital. He found his daughter (whose health was already comprised) dead a few weeks ago, but it's not known why she died. We are all thinking it could have been from the virus. My SIL told me over the weekend that her daughter just lost 3 friends to covid19. One died in just a matter of a few days. They all were in their 40's. We have a family business, deemed essential because it is a pack, ship and private post office. We told our oldest son to stay home with his family to diminish virus exposure to them. My husband and youngest son are still going to work. It is a risk, but right now with all of the businesses around our store closed, except for a liquor store and a sandwich shop, walk ins are very limited. So pretty much open for those that have accounts with us and to receive their pkgs. My husband doesn't want our youngest son to be there either. Neither of my sons wants their Dad to be there. I have to be out to shop for food and do laundry, so I risk being exposed also. I told my husband, the truth of the matter is the 3 of us are in one household, so we do what me must until one becomes ill, then we all will have to isolate. It has been very stressful for my husband and my oldest. My faith in God keeps me at peace. Although, my sister really stressed me out one day back in February, when all of this was just ramping up here. She never wants help thats offered and now she is in a situation I cannot help her with. She's 74 years old, in ill health and uses public transportation. Now that transportation is limited to essential use and personnel. I had been out daily trying to find items she needs and finally got them to her. Now, hopefully, I can be in until it's time to do laundry. Didn't mean to write an essay, but that is what's happening in my small world.

03/28 250.4 I didn’t have much yesterday for breakfast, so I treated myself to some frozen yogurt. I also went grocery shopping and managed to find food! I was so happy to find some real food and almost stocked shelves for the first time in a few weeks.
03/29 251.2 No hugs needed! I was under calorie yesterday, but had all the carbs, nearly double what I usually eat. For some reason my appetite was still a little off in the morning and I treated myself just a little in the afternoon and evening. It was a very nice day and I learned that these days I’m happy with a happy meal.
03/30 251.4 The carb bounce always takes a couple of days to go. I finally got a good night sleep last night after a couple of days of either not sleeping or using sleeping pills.
03/31 250.6 There we go back down and hopefully some more losses in days to come.

@kecward78 Keith, give that deficit a couple of days to show up. I know mine takes 2-3 days UNLESS I have eaten a bunch of processed carbs, like the loaf of bread I made last week. One slice shot me up 2# if I remember correctly and I’m sure that was water retention/inflammation. Hang in there!! Stay healthy!!8

03/29 - 149.3
03/30 - 149.3
03/31 - 149.7 - Bit of a long update since I've been absent: Not pretty numbers. Between the quarantine (shelter in place in both work and home cities), unpacking/getting settled in, and working from home (hello, kitchen and BF who can cook amazingly), this is what I get. Started a garden as a reason to get outside at least once a day (though sometimes I take a break just to go stand on the porch). Rain/storms Thursday-next week which puts a damper on the walking trails idea we had for this weekend. BF works from home (all the time, not just quarantine) so he always is looking for ways to get out of the house and now I understand why. I miss the freedom to just go get fresh air and sunshine without concern of the virus. Bought salads for "work lunch" to try to get some veggies in. Steaks last night with homemade mashed potatoes and garlic asparagus (I was in charge of sides). Hopefully soon my order of imperfect produce will come in and I can start incorporating more fruits and veggies in. Will have to since I'm paying for them and BF requested I did it, despite him not being the biggest veggie person. He told me to get it, so he gets to deal with it haha He wants to lose weight as well now that he's on the computer at home all day. Once things calm down, he's going to fix up our friend's extra bike and go riding with him. I'll go on walks and do some at home stuff when I'm able to. My schedule will be tough. It's a 1.5hr drive with no traffic. With traffic its around 2hrs. I shouldn't hit traffic going to work, but will leaving work to come home. So 13-14.5hrs gone. Will have just enough time to eat dinner, shower, and pass out with 6hrs sleep. 7hrs if food is already done when I get home. Fridays and weekends I will be free to do whatever I want/need to, though, so I'll be working on making up for my workweek. Also going to try to do lunch walks at work just to get out of the office and get movement in if I have a quiet computer-based or meeting-based day. Any advice y'all have, I'll gladly take. Especially since I haven't been doing my IF (skipping breakfast) lately since BF cooks for us and I've had a rumbling belly by 8am. Once I'm working at the plant, I'll get back to that but until then, I need to figure something out. No idea how long I'll be at home, but the orders for San Antonio are valid until the 9th unless its extended. Now time to catch up on everybody's posts!

@quiltingjaine, I'll ask her. Probably fake facebook.😕 I was truly waiting for comments on that post. What someone else has heard or knows. I should have looked into it first, but thats why I posted that my DIL texted it to me. I've been caught up with my sisters issues. Personally, the hand washing, every 20 mins, seems excessive and I have always washed my hands a LOT. Taking warm drinks and not iced fluids I've heard helps, but I think because a warm drink is more soothing when you are ill. I have coffee, sometimes hot tea and soup daily, but I drink my water cold. Nothing in that post is going to help you avoid this virus, except distancing and I don't even believe that.
All we can do is the best we can. I am not doing anything excessively, but I take precautions. I wipe down all purchases with a soapy cloth, which I have done for years anyway. Then I clean the surfaces that the items touched. I keep bathrooms clean and disinfected. I clean floors with disinfecting solution. If someone in my family becomes ill, then I will step up the disinfecting. We usually don't get sick, except for an occasional sore throat or cold that lasts only a few days. So, I'm praying that when it hits us it will be mild. But yes, I will ask my DIL about that article.
If you truly want to know, I don't know if I trust them either, Lol

Join us! If we stay mindful we can do this, you can do this.
Welcome back past members, welcome new members, let's keep each other accountable for another 10 days!
Here is what you do: Post your daily weight and add little comments along the way of how your day went. Post everyday to let us know how you're doing! Copy and paste the days in your response--tell us how much you lost and other non scale victories (NSV) you'd like to share.
FOR NEWBIES - I find it easiest to copy the dates to a document or note in my device and edit it each morning. Then copy and paste to the message board. MFP will return you to the spot on the board where you left off on your previous visit which is nice to know if you like to scan all of the posts.

03/29 159.8 ~ {Steps 18,031} ~ We took a long drive and ate lunch at Burger Master, delicious burgers,I did a lettuce wrap with two patties and bacon, yummy. We also had a late dinner. No worries about my weight...... Hence my weight gain, on the bright side I actually got an excellent workout in plus was under my calorie goal.
03/30 157.8 ~ {Steps 8,965} ~ Today was an extremely hard day since besides the morning it rained most of the day. I call it a win though since I didn’t eat my emotions at night.

03/27 …..203.8….. ENDING WEIGHT LAST ROUND
03/28 …..203.5 ….. Finished my raking yesterday which helped me drop a bit on the scale. My diet was less food but bad choices still. Everyday is a new start. I am hopeful for today.
Good luck everyone on this round.
03/29 …..203.5 ….. Ahhh…The more things change the more they stay the same. I honestly thought I would see a drop on the scale, a reward of sorts, because my diet was improved. However, my calorie burn was almost non-existent so I guess I shouldn’t be too surprised. Today is another chance to make myself healthier in every way! For everyone that is shut-in, enjoy your family, pets, that book you’ve been wanting to read, that really good movie and/or that project you’ve been meaning to finish. I am thinking of you all! Have a safe and wonderful day everyone!
03/30 …..203.5 ….. Day 3 exactly the same. I guess I am not making enough changes, but then again, I kind of already knew that, didn’t I???? No changes in my choices, no changes on the scale. Go figure!
03/31 …..203.5 ….. Still no change. I increased my steps yesterday. Improved my diet somewhat (again) but still not quite on point. Today I will begin a new strategy. I have already logged all the food I plan on eating. If I stick to the blueprint, I will be back on my way to success and health. And good health and immunity is something we could all use at this time! It usually takes me about 3 days to get my body to stop screaming for sugar, carbs and all the other things I need to limit so I am hoping for best for the next 3 days (and beyond). Ground zero.

03/28 - 356.0 - I conducted a little experiment. I live near Philly, where we are known for our cheesesteaks. Lots of shredded meat, cheese, some fried onions and mushrooms, all slapped on a roll. So I bought one yesterday. But while I ate it, I also drank my ACV drink. I wanted to see if the ACV would affect my insulin and fat storage. Now I admit I don't quite understand the biomechanics well, but my calorie intake for yesterday was only 300 under my daily normal intake. But my weight loss was 1.4 lbs. I don't want to do this too often, but when I did our weekly shopping (the ONLY time I am around anyone during this quarantine), mom asked for donuts from our Amish farmer's market. Imagine pie filling (apple, strawberry, etc.) injected into a dough roll. One for mom, one for me. I'll be trying the ACV before eating mine. But I have been using the ACV before I eat my processed carbs and it seems to decrease/affect my insulin and weight loss for the positive. Anecdotal experiment, I know.
03/29 - 356.3 - That'll teach me for eating finger food for dinner. Egg rolls, taquitos and potstickers. WAY overdid it. Very tasty, though.
03/30 - 356.3 - No change... and weird. My calories were short by almost 700 yet no move down. Now I'm confused. I'll just stay the course and hope it corrects in the next few days.
03/31 - 356.1 - Slight downtick. I'm wondering if this is my first plateu. If so, I don't like it. I want to move down. Just kidding. I stopped my ACV for a couple of days and suddenly I've stopped. I've got to simply stick with what has worked and not play around with it. On a good note for substituting foods, I picked up some cauliflower crust pizzas to replace the standard flour and water. Still take Mom for an early morning walk and then my own walk. And two of the last three days I'm adding a kettelbell workout in. Slow, small steps are what get us there. Not dramatic changes that we can't sustain. My opinion. Everyone stay safe!

I' m in! Thank you, @GrandmaJackie!
70 year old female...5'5" ...I used to be 5'7" but arthritis hit and I lost two inches, so now that two inches is squished around my waist like the billows of a big accordion... ...Oh, well. I'll just keep working on it.
We used to walk 5 miles a day. A pinched nerve and back surgery side-lined me for about a year. Then I had back surgery. Then I had hip surgery March 10th. Recovery is slow. Sure do want to be back walking!
The Shelter in Place has everyone freaked. We need to remain calm and respectful of each other.

Okay back to address this.
Today my family is home and I took time to go over these 10 points. @quiltingjaine, My DIL says she "honestly" doesn't remember where she got it from. A side eye from me on that one, anytime someone says honestly in this situation.
1. Drinking warm water is beneficial as it hydrates better than cold water. Hot lemon water helps with digestion.
2. Gargling with warm water and a little salt helps ease a sore throat.
3. The virus attaching to hair and clothing. Maybe. If it's true than I should have been ill weeks ago.
4. Virus viable on metallic surfaces up to 9 days. Could be, just keep things clean.
5. Don't smoke. Yeah✔ don't. Bad for your health anyway worse if you have pneumonia.
6. Wash hands every 20 minutes. That is excessive. Just wash your hands often.
7. Eating fruits and vegetables is a healthy thing to do, but not going to keep you from contracting this virus.
8. Animals (I assume this means pets) do not spread the virus. I don't think that is definitive yet, but keep loving up your pet. I would not allow face licking though and wash your hands after petting.
9. This one is laughable to me. Avoid getting the flu. You can't avoid the flu, not even with a flu shot. I've had the flu 3 times, twice as an adult, once after a flu shot. /Avoid eating and drinking anything cold. Are you going to stop eating ice cream or having a cold drink?
10. I don't know about the virus sitting in your throat for 3-4 days if you refer to number 1 and believe that.
This breath holding test. Just don't do it. Fibrosis can only be detected by CT scan.
••••
My DIL just texted me this~
Doctors are reporting they now understand the behavior of the COVID 19 virus due to autopsies that they have carried out. This virus is characterized by obstructing respiratory pathways with thick mucus that solidifies and blocks the airways and lungs. So they have discovered that in order to apply a medicine you have to open and unblock these airways so that the treatment can be used to take effect however all of this takes a number of days. Their recommendations for what you can do to safeguard yourself are ...
1) Drink lots of hot liquids - coffees, soups, teas, warm water. In addition take a sip of warm water every 20 minutes bc this keeps your mouth moist and washes any of the virus that’s entered your mouth into your stomach where your gastric juices will neutralize it before it can get to the lungs.
2) Gargle with an antiseptic and warm water like vinegar or salt or lemon every day if possible
3) The virus attaches itself to hair and clothes. And detergent or soap kills it but you must take bath or shower when you get in from the street. Avoid sitting down in your home and go straight to the shower. If you cannot wash your clothes daily, hang them in sunlight which also helps to neutralize the virus
4) Wash metallic surfaces very carefully bc the virus can stay viable on these for up to 9 days. Take note and be vigilant about touching hand rails, door knobs, etc. and keep these clean in home home
5) Don’t smoke
6) Wash your hands every 20 minutes with any soap that foams and do this for 20 seconds
7) Eat fruits and vegetables. Try to elevate your zinc levels
8)Animals do not spread the virus to people. Its a person to person transmission.
9)Try to avoid getting the common flu as this already weakens your system and try to avoid eating and drinking any cold things.
10) If you feel any discomfort in your throat or a sore throat coming on, attack it immediately using the above methods. The virus enters the system through the throat but will sit in the throat for 3-4 days before it passes into your lungs.
In addition ...
Experts suggest doing this simple verification every morning: Breathe in deeply and hold your breath for 10 seconds. If this can be done without coughing, without difficulty, this shows that there is no fibrosis in the lungs, indicating the absence of infection. It is recommended to do this control every morning to help detect infection

@CamandJarvis sounds like you will have some long days! I'm an office worker (accountant) and I work 9-hour days (plus commute, but that's only 15 mins each way) so I am kind of in the same boat where I try to find opportunities to stay active throughout the day. It's too easy to just be sat at your desk for hours on end.
One thing I used to do (must get back to) is to stand up and walk around or do some stretches every half hour - my dietician (a credentialled diabetes educator) advised this has a massive impact on maintaining stable sugar levels through the day (I have insulin resistance so that's important for me). Also, when I go to the bathroom, I take an extra couple of minutes to do squats, lunges, wall pushups, calf raises etc. or just walk in place for a few minutes or do some standing yoga poses. I find these really make me feel less stiff from sitting all day, and they do all add up a bit if you're doing them often enough.
I'm working from home now as well, which I think has made it harder in that sense, as I am interrupted less so I kind of zone out and sit for longer periods without realising! I did use to have an app on my phone/watch that pinged me every half hour to remind me to move - I should reinstall that!8 -

FOCUS FOR THIS ROUND
Adjusting to working from home, trying to be more active.
GOALS THIS ROUND
- RGW 132.0kg
- 20 mins exercise 7/10 days
R109 SW 132.6kg
Day | Weight | Change | Comment
03/28 | 132.8kg | +0.2kg
03/29 | 132.7kg | -0.1kg | Sorry for the late start to the round, I always seem to struggle getting online on weekends! I haven’t been making good food choices, but portion sizes are down so that’s good. No exercise. Not enough water. I can do better than this! My brother in law has been tested for the virus, will get the results in a couple of days. If it’s positive, it’s the first case in our town and my sister will need to be quarantined (she’s a teacher). Waiting with bated breath!
03/30 | 132.8kg | +0.1kg | Much more of the same poor choices for the weekend. Guzzling the water today and hoping to make some better choices! No. Hope is not a management method. I WILL make some better choices! Still awaiting test results for my brother in law, no news yet.
03/31 | 133.0kg | +0.2kg
04/01 | 133.1kg | +0.1kg | More of the same poor choices. I've been eating too much bread and not enough veggies. Must do better. Brother in law has tested negative, so that's good! Still no local cases here, but our state is essentially in lockdown - only allowed out of the house to do essential shopping/business, work etc. so I'm glad to be working from home. My work is still not really taking it seriously, as I am one of only 3-4 people who have been allowed to work from home (others may be able to if they ask, but management are avoiding doing a proper risk assessment which would result in scores of people working remotely, since they can't monitor that work properly. In other news, had to take my little one to the emergency room yesterday - he is 15 months old, and only started walking maybe a month ago, but decided he could try running. It did not end well - he fell over on the pavers outside and hit his head pretty hard. He has a big egg on his head and some bruising, but no signs of concussion (yet) - talk about giving his mama a heart attack though!

Day/Weight/Comment
3/28/20 - 180
Rainy Saturday here, with lots of wind, but in the 60s, so not all bad. The birdies in my yard are extremely busy — Mike the cat has lots to watch! I hope you all have engaging things to do, too.
3/29/20 - 180.6
Not surprised — we had pizza yesterday. DH had a craving. We had storms and rain all day yesterday, but it’s 60F and sunny this morning. I’m going for a walk! Have a healthy Sunday, everyone.
3/30/20 - 180.2
I’ve clearly hit some sort of equilibrium as I’ve stayed within .8 of a pound since Feb. 13. Though not the weight I’m aiming for, I think this is good for my body/metabolism and I’m getting a good idea of my real maintenance calories. When the weather warms up again (cold again after a beautiful morning yesterday) and I get more exercise, I’ll lose again. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.
3/31/20 - 180
Forgot to check in this morning! Busy day. I hope everyone is well.

@TwistedSassette, aww poor little guy. {{{hugs}}} Same thing happened to my Grandson when he started walking. Not stable on his feet, but wanted to run. His nose and chin were full of scrapes and a huge scraped up knot on his forehead.😟 3 years old now. All he does is run.3

I’m absolutely in! This will be my first round so bear with me. Also, feel free to add me, can never have too many motivational connections 💪🏼.
Today was a really hard day emotionally, and I am a stress/emotional eater. This week will be even harder yet and we have a fridge full of leftovers to eat. Goal for this cycle is going to be portion control and finding moments of peace in the stress. Trying to pep talk myself to do some self-pampering, a workout, a meditation, and tackle the day.
The quote that always helps and might help others: “No matter how you feel, get up, dress up, show up, and never give up.”

Heaviest/Starting/Current Weight: 157.8lbs
Goal Weight: 125lbs
3/28: 157.8lbs
3/29: 155.6lbs (-2.2lb!) Talked myself into doing another workout dvd this morning deapite how sick and terrible I felt after doing yesterdays. I’m so glad I did! Muscles feel so sore, but the good kind of accomplished sore. I am an ICU nurse and am on-call for our coronavirus unit overnight tonight, tomorrow night, and tue night so my schedule is a little flip-flopped.
3/30: 157.8lbs (+2.2lb) Goes to show how short lived successes can be sometimes I suppose haha. I know weight fluctuates a lot in a week which is why I’ve never really been a fan of weighing myself daily. I end up obsessing over the smallest differences.
3/31: I did not weigh myself or do a workout today. I did, however, get called in to work on our coronavirus unit in the ICU last night and according to my fit bit I had walked almost 3mi just between midnight and 7am! Not a true workout but between that and moving patients I suppose I’ll give myself some credit. So far I am below my calorie goal for the day (its 9pm), just have to not sit here and snack while waiting for work to call tonight.
