(((Allie))): I remember fondly the time when you were regularly visiting your dad in the care facility. Are you interested in that kind of career? I think you would be great with elders. I don’t suppose anything involving human contact will be safe for the next while because of the virus, but it might be something to think about when the disease runs its course. :flowerforyou:.

We are staying at or near home these days. I had a lovely walk in the neighborhood with the dog yesterday. I went out and shopped earlier today and have been rereading old favorite romance books since then.

Did the Gimme Gimme Gimme DVD today. I don’t think I’m going to keep that one. Too dancy for me. The plan for tomorrow is to do a Total Body Cardio Torch DVD. I’m trying to do DVD’s that I haven’t done in a long while and getting rid of the ones that I probably won’t do any more

Kylia – Don’t know why, but I wasn’t impressed with Joseph and The Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat. I wasn’t impressed when our community theater did it, either. But I AM looking forward to Jesus Christ Superstar. When is that starting?

SuziQ – thanks so much for reminding me how much I have to be grateful for with Vince. He has his “things” but in the grand scope of things, they really aren’t that bad. Oh, they may get on my nerves, but I’m sure there are things that I do that get on his nerves Spinning...lol

Made some chocolate rice krispie bars for Jess and Vince then went to Aldi. They advertised butter, no price but a limit of 2 so I thought “it must be a really good price with a limit of only 2” No. It was their usual price. They are no longer accepting returns on things unless it is a quality issue.

My dentist isn’t closed, but he’ll only see patients on an emergency basis. Now I got my permanent crown put on because they had just gotten it in. They’d started the process before all this. But now he just takes emergencies, no routine cleanings and that stuff.

Rebecca – I’m so sorry you're having to go thru that with you son. I do hope he is able to call you real soon

I didn't know that either but yes, there are lots of national, state and local parks here. The national parks are all closed right now ... not sure about the others.

In this area, we've got the mountain which has a lot of trails, several surrounding hills, and lots of foreshore trails. There is a lot of nature around.

Katla- yes i used to see my Dear FIL .gosh how I miss him..
Yes working with the elderly is another realm i would consider....
I miss my dads hugs he would get up from whatever he was doing and give me a big hug and a kiss on the cheek...
Mr and mrs cardinal were out this morning and mr cardinal was feeding the Mrs.. it was adorable.. and I knew it was my parents...

Heather Congratulations on DH’s haircut! I used the quarantine to get my DH to let me cut it shorter. I love it. He doesn’t like that he is balding, but I think he looks great. I, too, color my own. I’ve been using Loreal Creme Excellence 38 years. So hard to have the time away from your grands! I only see my older son’s children a couple of times a year. This year I may not see them at all. I love video chatting and texting with them, but I miss their hugs and playing games together, etc.

Janet So glad you were able to get your daughter into her new house. Very sorry to hear your brother is not doing well! I hope he is negative on the test! Prayers for him and for you!

Well goodness the nuts come out from their rocks during stuff don’t they! Hearing Doctors to Grocery stores having to put up with rude customers who cough y spit at them. Cops 🚓 to bus drivers also. One driver died after being coughed at older Lady was positive. A Cop got infected when spat upon his coworkers caught it. Be kind to everyone still working that’s
The front lines now anyone out there during this mess with employers choosing whether they can wear a mask/gloves or not from home (many saying No until it’s too late). I’m waiting on a few grocery items still but another box arrived with a few I will not call to complain not time for that. I will patiently wait my turn. Ordered a month ago it will get here when I need it most I’m sure.

Stay safe everyone. I am using the ingredients I have on hand for meals. I do go for my walks. My oldest and youngest sons both have to work from home, The son near me (pharmacist) has to go in work every day. One day at a time. I just got two new cookbooks that I want to read through.

Kelly-a bit ago you asked about starting a garden… and I have been asked to write a blog post about starting a garden for my camp employer… so guess I need to do this – I’ll practice on you LOL and put it in a spoiler!

Starting a veggie garden – for the beginner

First remember that every gardener started as a beginner, and every gardener even every farmer has a crop that doesn’t do well one year, a plant they just can’t get to grow .. So don’t take it personally.

Also NO ONE has a black thumb, gardens require attention, daily at some times, every other day other times of the growing season; most “black thumbs” are really a lifestyle that doesn’t include the attention time required to be a successful garden. So if you know it will be hard to commit the time, start small – even with just a pot.

Grow only things you like to eat, and eat in quantity. For example I love corn on the cob; I want corn 1-2 times a week, for the 3 months of summer so that is 12-24 ears, and corn takes a lot of space, a lot of water, full sun and often gets insects – not worth the resources of time/water – for just 18ish ears. I can eat tomatoes 2-3 meals a day every day of summer… that’s worth the resources! You need to grow what you love. Growing things that are happy in your climate makes it easier to have success.

For summer growing in the Grand Haven, MI area look at what the local farmers are growing – a quick “Google” showed me this list.

• lettuce
• onions
• peas
• potatoes

• salad greens
• salad mix

This is a great place to start. Kelly for you with the kids I would do something they could easily plant and then see come up and pick. Looking at this list I would recommend beans. Bean seeds are large enough for small fingers, they come in climbing ones or in a bush style.
You will need an area that the soil is dug up and loosened. Depending on your soil you might want to dig in a bag of soil.
If you go bush style the kids can plant in a paper egg carton (just the side with the egg spots) 3 seeds per carton on one side do one at each of the end egg spots on the other side do one seed in the center egg spot, fill the egg holes with soil, then plant the entire egg carton in the ground, dig a trench to set the carton in with top edge of the carton ¼ of an inch lower than the top of the ground cover with soil. Water every other day. You can do this inside if its still cold outside.

Many hate to retype something for publication. Start an online advice column for women new to being single again. Many are left clueless when they first find themselves living on their own again. Kim from CA, i remember how excited I got when we each planted a limabean in a paper cup in second grade! And when I brought it home, mom helped me plant it and set the hose at a gentle mist to keep it moist during our hot Ohio summers. When I’d got enough ripe pods, my mom taught me how to shuck them, and then simmer the fresh limabeans in a bit of water, a little salt and just a pinch of sugar. Then we added butter, and I served them to everyone with a teaspoon. (There really weren’t that many.) Mom made sure I got extra, and I’d never tasted anything quite so good!

I’m still feeling great, and got the weight loss free fall stopped at 137#, so I’ll continue to carefully keep my calories and protein up a bit. That story above re the Lima’s made me hunger for them, so perhaps I’ll look out for a SMALL package of the frozen baby limas, they’re the best!

I’m still dealing with some loneliness issues, but checking in here really does help! We are having next to no direct client contact right now at the tax office. Nearly everyone is dropping off their documents at the front desk and signing the necessary permission for me to do their return, then a few exchanges by email, and they come back in, sign the filing document, pay, and they’re out of there like a cat out of the fish pond.

I’ve been out shopping nearly every day. A neighbor gave me a great face mask & I feel a lot better about going in to get things, knowing the protection it provides.
