Katla I think it depends how we handle it and what we learn from it. I just learned this morning. 10 million trees are used to make that scarce TP. Made me stop and think. South Korea are doing a better job this time because they learned from SARS.
I learned this on Mysteries at the Museum during WWl the signal the soldiers used to put on their gas masks was a soldier was in charge of watching a small group of slugs. The slugs would react to the gas and when the soldier saw this he would give the signal to put on the gas masks. As is now wearing these masks constantly unless you are working as a doctor in the thick of it is not practical. Someone said and they are right it is not easy to breathe through the N-95 masks.
My point in telling this story is perhaps it is time to pay more attention to nature. 10 Million trees something seems wrong with this picture to me.
These are some of the lessons I think we need to learn.5 -
Hello Peeps!
Barbie - your post touched me. I feel much the same as you. We are at peace with everything happening right now, we have done the best we can to weather this, come what may. We are blessed beyond expectation.
Barbara - your comment about your local farm vendors made me realize why I like our farmer's markets so much. It's not just the produce - I always look forward to socializing a little with the vendors if they have time and usually run into people I haven't seen for a while. Hopefully it will continue this summer, we can do do some social distancing and still gab in the parking lot!
Rebecca - your meal looked yummy!! So glad OMAD is working for you! These days I'm doing the best I can to maintain 12:12, some days are easier than others. Can still fit in my favorite pants which is a victory.
Regarding hugs - I've been reminiscing about some of the best hugs of my life. Many of the folks aren't around anymore (parents, grandparents) or live far away. It's been rewarding revisiting those memories and feelings. And there's DH and the dogs of course.
Regarding haircuts - I've been blessed/cursed with naturally curly hair and 3 or 4 cowlicks, lol. I was always re-cutting it when I'd get home from the salon. I finally decided to just do it myself, having watched the professionals for years and taking note of the good ones. DH runs the clippers over his head and trims his own beard/mustache once a month, has done so for years.
Regarding senior shopping hours - After my experience a few weeks ago at our local Safeway when senior shopping hours meant packed parking lot and packed store with the most vulnerable jammed together like the day before Thanksgiving, I called our Grocery Outlet to inquire if they had "senior shopping". So I could avoid the store during that time. The gal at the store said they decided against it for the reason I mentioned (no ability to social distance) and recommended coming between 9 and 10 when there were few people in the store if I had concerns.
Regarding others offering to shop for us - being elderlyHeather and Katla - yep, we aren't elderly. 90+ and/or disabled are elderly in my book as well. We have lots of young people offering to shop for us - I've told them we are OK, if quarantined for some reason then we'll take them up on it. Will make my quick trip to town tomorrow morning before most of the population wakes up.
Make it a great day, dear ones. Get some fresh air if you can.

Katla - Over 70s are at much higher risk of serious complications and death from COVID19 than younger people. The graph goes up like a rocket! However, a lot of over 70s have other risk factors, which currently I do not. I am hopeful I would not have it seriously. Nevertheless I count as vulnerable. But not extremely vulnerable, according to the government. That's why I can't get a supermarket delivery at the moment as they are reserved for those on the government's list.
Just done my bonus rowing and biking.Total, 900 calories for the day.
I had a good day. I wrote, I spoke to my yoga friend, I cooked a savoury pie and I got my bonus calories done. I also enjoyed all your posts. I ordered the grandchildren 's Easter present from Amazon - a globe that lights up at night to show constellations.Plus a picture book about the stars.
Rori - I think about you such a lot. I have no words really. Just hugs.

We are so fortunate to be isolated during the CoVid outbreak here at the park. No need to go stir crazy inside.

Sarah - That’s why they need to stop mortgages, electric, gas,y water bills so you y me as renters don’t have those costs either! The food ration tickets would be for food to tp for us .Right now my hubby can’t find regular work our tenants either they cannot pay us we have a mortgage they are good tenants who normally would pay on time even in advance. When this is over we don’t want them or us to be in debt cause we both wouldn’t be able to pay 💰 the penalties, interest,or missed payments! Can’t be just 1 of what I listed it needs to be ALL that I listed so no one gets screwed. We’re going without our meds tenants can’t pay y works dried up so if temporary debt forgiveness with ration cards was implemented with zero bank penalties or reposition we’d be in a better boat than we are now. It’s actually been done in the pasta to save the economy y people during pandemics of the past in some countries. Amber Tx

Like some here I gained 1.2 pounds during the month of March. I came across this on FB this morning. If I had a printer I would stick it on my refrigerator.
SuziQ who is getting back on track! I must put me before all even this darn virus! Covid19 has derailed us enough, I'm not going to let it derail my progess.9 -

Am I joined by typing a comment here? I'm from Iowa. Still working, apparently insurance is critical. My husband is laid off. My gym like most everything is closed. So I am walking outside a mile and walking inside a mile with air squats and pushups and occasional elyptical instead of walking. I find with the stress of all I am wanting carbs all the time. Starting today getting them back under 50 and then down to 30 or so. Those are my goals. Reading your goals will hopefully help keep me motivated. My motto: my body will achieve what my mind believes9

@kymarai but 500sq feet for one person in paris is considered quite comfy. (about 400,000 euros to purchase and at least 1500 to rent usually i have an excellent deal as a renter). yeah the 1h outside time stinks. not into videos so far for exercise. i have to spend so much time between online working etc, that when moving i want to move computer free. online work is really time-consuming actually; like for many thrown into this it takes time to work it out plus it overlaps personal time in various ways.
@kevrit that kept bread sounds good, is it possible to make it without a microwave--in the oven or on the stove? i guess so if it worked in the waffle maker. sounds egg-y. surprising for the mayonnaise. i'm curious to try. looks delicious!
@JRsLateInLifeMom so sorry about your aunt. that 10 dollar a week menu is economical but almost no veggies other than scallions, etc. lunch, no protein in first 3 days lunch, The refried beans approach is cool. a cabbage would be great. resourceful though you have to admit.
@SuziQ113 i thought of making a smile on mine but didn't want to be to noticeable. it's very dystopic now and a bit of laughter is welcome. you have about 1000 sq meters? it was a bit like that too for me when i had a small 2 story place 1100 sq meters. i had a good size kitchen about 200 sq meters and a good size bedroom and the kitchen became the kitchen dining living office and the bedroom was lounge bedroom... (it was a fixer upper). the other bedroom was great for guests and i never really fixed up the living room well. (old stone country house). Are you under a stay home order? or you just are used to getting exercise at home, i was never a clean freak but now i'm washing washing washing. I can TOTALLY relate to that QUARANTINE WARDROBE. online classes keep me from going to far into the hermit stage.
@margaretturk that bug mask is pretty funny
@Snowflake1968 ha ha about wearing a swimsuit! too cold here for now.
@LuciBThinner i'm sorry about the weight gain. it's so challenging. i went for a walk this morning but other than that mostly online (online teaching and prep and after work). i hope they will open up the time frame we can go out for but i'm not even sure they will. it looks grim. I think the leadership is questionable in many places. i think france is particularly bad in terms of transparency and honestly at present (maybe always). in the usa i find there is usually press (like nytimes and fact checkers) that give the other side of a story. That easter package looks like most of my shopping last week. i went to the big supermarket and stocked up on cleaning stuff.
@Whidislander haha for your husband's mask. another way to get a wide berth is to clear your throat a couple of times. people are frightened.
@LisainAr great job getting to the elliptical 30 min x/week. your goals sound good and reasonable.
@cityjaneLondon i think many people are having a hard time writing, researching; i think it's ok to cut oneself some slack. it's a pretty weird period. if you can work, awesome.
@Barbiecat i'm much more one day at a time now too.

Thanks Lanette, it is still crazy to me to eat that, some cashews and a dessert, yet still be doing good. Still struggling with deleting some mindsets that in order to lose weight you have to eat. Well eat good food that is. I am currently 229 lbs. Being that I was 245 when we moved to the island, I am pleased with my progress. I notice though many Facebook posts of people that lost 40 lbs and their whole body transformed. So its not really about a number on the scale. The connection ie: relationship with my scale is changing.
Regarding shopping times for the elderly. Our commissary has Tue, Wed, and Thu for us to go 9-10 am. Each person gets a cart. A way to distance everyone. I just drove my cart around empty. Plus there was a 50 person limit so they must keep track of how many people are in at any given time by that. We have baggers, and they drive their own upright carts that hold your bags. Then they had a lady taking your empty cart after you put your items on the belt. Its mandatory to tip the baggers. Husband gets $1 coins from the car wash place so we have a pile of them in the car to pay them $1. Some pay $5 I'm told, but that's just nuts. If they wish more money then maybe they should get a job that pays.

so tired.
don't feel like having goals as usual this month.
survive stay well
maintain weight
tend to finances
clean house a little more
meditate daily or most days
draw or write in journal 3x a week....
i'm enjoying my students;
we do one class on the radio per group each spring
it was not easy this time.
the digital center guy had to work a lot on it and we had to do a lot of tries.
it worked, not without tech issues but all who wanted to got to contribute some.
they enjoyed it immensely. we planned for 1h max but they wanted to go on and on, adding songs and singing.
one had learned how to play the ukulele online in the morning and so sang a love song and played a ukulele song. on day 1. another sang
just took a 2 min break to clap with neighbors. that is the 8pm ritual here. uplifting many days6 -
i had a GF frozen pizza for dinner 650 calories. usually i just have a half.
i've been less into sugar and more into starch these days.
i have usual breakfast (protein mix+buckwheat, soy yogurt and milk, seeds and 1tsp naturally sweenened jam (100% fruit), lunch often tofu and steamed veggies. never very big into cabbage but i find it lasts great and goes a long way without having to go shopping. i usually like raw veggies but am more into warm food. it's cold-ish out but also not moving makes me crave warmth more somehow (slower metabolism) and there's more comfort and it's probably safer. surely not all veggie pickers, packers, transporters, stockers have gloves and masks. i know they don't have masks.
i tend to have a glass of wine or GF beer about 3 x a week probably more than average for entertainment, but really it doesn't entertain me. GF beer gives me a scratchy throat and so many banal symptoms are frightening now. i wanted to buy just one for a change but they only had tiny six packs (25cl per bottle);
no dairy at all for me. it gives me the sniffles and sneezes sometimes especially in pollen season. any cough is frightening slightly for me, but more so for people i pass in the street even if i use a mask...
great afternoon class : ) but a bit weighed down by pizza. : (
now it's 8pm and (not late here) i'm gonna tuck in...
be well!4 -
@roserex yes everyone is welcome. enjoy. i am only here every few days on average lately (despite my better intentions) but others are here every day. a wonderful group.6

i'm having computer and phone probs. i ordered a new iphone 7 early in quarantine but it's not coming, i don't think it will come at all. i have 2 old computers and both have problems. i'm afraid neither will hold out. i had bought a really cheap new one but it really stinks. it's like worth nothing. now i wanted to bite the bullet and swing for a new macbook pro entry model but all apple stores are closed; i want to get education discount but i'm not sure if i can reach anyone...and if the stores will really be shipping or if they will just be pocketing my money since they are closed all over the world.2

I had problems with dropped calls when talked to brother on Saturday. I go out an old Trac phone that had minutes on it and no dropped calls.2

You may be able to order via Apple direct.I am not sure if you would be able to get the educator's discount online, but may be worth a try!

Florida is finally fully under a shelter in place order. We can go out for essentials and exercise. We have no time limit on the time and/or number of times we can go out. Some cities and counties in Florida have curfews. One can walk their pet during the curfew hours but must remain within 1,200 feet of their home. But, everyone during "essential" outings can go anywhere. There is no distance limitation.
They are asking for us not to gather with anyone except those you live with or are taking care of but there is no tracking and/or permission needed.
So most of us are sheltering in place and hoping the rest come to their senses.4
