Ouch, @brittanystebbins95! That looks painful. I burn very easily as well.
@lilybed, welcome!
@PastorVincent, you’re right, the heat and humidity is no joke.
I haven’t posted my last few runs. I did run 3 early yesterday morning, and then hubby and I drove up to Atlanta to the botanical garden, where we walked another couple of miles. They had an Alice in Wonderland theme.
My local SRTT group is doing a virtual run across Georgia challenge from June 1- Aug 31. The route they chose is 298 miles, so an average of 3.3 per day or 23 per week. I figure this should be fairly doable, so I signed up.
I should have gone out before now to run this morning since it is already so warm. Today will probably end up as a run/walk to deal with the heat.

I met some friends at 6:00 am yesterday morning and ran. Everyone had varying distances but another girl and I did 10 miles. Thunderstorms were in the forecast but it turned out to be a beautiful day. It was a bit humid but no rain. I briefly walked through the farmer’s market, went to the grocery store for my mom before heading to her house where I quickly showered and we ventured out to get some lunch and flowers for family gravesites. The store where we normally get flowers was packed and I really did not want to go in. I had driven through its parking lot a couple of times before yesterday and it was just too crowded. However, mom was stressing over not having flowers on the graves so I donned on my mask and sucked it up and went in and quickly made my selections and purchases. Probably a record in and out time for me!
Another nice morning with a 66F temp but 98% humidity so I headed out for a 7 mile run and then walked back up my ridge to the house an additional 1.5 miles.
@katharmonic – I’m always amazed and inspired by your many workouts. Congrats on you MAYHem challenge! You’re doing great with your streak as is @skippygirlsmom.
@quilteryoyo – Great run! Good steady pace!
Ouch @brittanystebbins95 – I know that hurts.
Welcome @lilybed – I have a basic Garmin Forerunner 220 that I use for running. It’s not fancy enough to measure my other activities or receive texts or play music but it works for my needs.
@Tramboman – the buttercups have been bloomed out for at least a week where I live. I don’t ever remember seeing as many in the fields as I have this year.
@marisap2010 – I love those pictures from the botanical gardens! Gorgeous!

@brittanystebbins95 Ouch! As others have said, you may just have to go to a zinc oxide screen during the rest of your pregnancy, or wear light weight long sleeves. Hope the magnesium and prenatal vitamins help with the leg cramps.
Welcome @lilybed . I have the Garmin Forerunner 235. I love it. I got it because I wanted something with built in HR monitoring and GPS to track my mileage. I also like the stats that it give me. Like others have said, look at what's available, decide which functions you can't live without, find one in your price range, and go for it.
@marisap2010 The gardens look very cool. The virtual race sound nice too. I think there is one that goes across TN, from Bristol to Memphis. Way to far for me. I might be able to do a route that went N to S. LOL2 -

Sunny and low 60s F today, with a breeze from the south to help with the humidity. Was tired both physically and mentally. Got to see a gray fox; the Japanese and Native American Honeysuckle are beginning to bloom.

@Tramboman The honeysuckles are blooming here too. Unfortunately, that's bad news for me because smelling them makes my nose stop up almost immediately. Hope you get some rest.
I got my new shoes today! Since I did the long run yesterday, I'm not going to run today. May take them on a trial run tomorrow.
Shoe porn below:
I noticed when I put them on that they have a little design element over the big toe area. Wondering if that is to help the issue some of you were discussing earlier about having holes develop there.5 -
Thanks for all the kind words and suggestions! I'll have to look into zinc oxide sunblock...I've never heard of it before.
Now, the question is...to run, or not to run tonight?
A huge part of me wants to try for at the very least a mile and see how that goes. I owe it to my dogs, at least. My quad still has a pretty tight knot in it, but I've ran with my calves like that before and it wasn't an issue, so if I don't run I know I'm just going to kick myself later for "using it as an excuse."
Maybe I'll go out to run, give it a go, and if it hurts more I'll just walk the dogs instead. I know I will beat myself up over it later though if I don't do something.
Everyone says to cut myself some slack, but its so much easier said than done. I just don't think its in my personality. I'm a very "mind over matter" person (thanks, military dad) and I never seem to know when to quit 😂4 -

No Sunday update this week. I ran only one day this week, yesterday, due to all the construction and other projects I am tied up in.
Also my coach does not want me running until I get new shoes. I did run yesterday anyways... but it is boiling hot and I am not yet heat adapted. I was in the yard for a few mins trimming bushes and now I need a shower LOL.

When we went to Hawaii I noticed they preferred zinc oxide based sunblocks to protect the coral and other ocean life. I know it’s like something “yo mama” puts on you when the other kids get the cool spray on that smells like coconuts and Shea. I still love the Hawaiian tropics oil stuff. I included a quick link to some cool stuff, you can find the same thing but not necessarily the cool brand at Walmart, target, CVS, Walgreens, ect. But, I’ll still think your cool.
Dh was showing me property for sale in Hawaii yesterday, I said “don’t even ef with me. I’m on disability and can be in school anywhere. 20 acres? Omg I can build my running park.” He quickly shared that he was just looking. Uh huh... give me a little hope then take it all away... butt. I tried y’all.5 -
Morning all
It's finally raining! So I went for a glorious run in the wet. And stayed warm in my new top, love it.
Apparently we had an earthquake when I was out. A decent chunk of the North Island felt it, I didn't feel a thing! Amusing that a run can mask the ground moving!
I'm battling an injury sigh. Noticed it after Saturdays run. It's a bit of niggling pain deep inside my calf near the top of the belly. Anyone had this? What is it? I'm rolling and stretching. Will see how it goes. I've cut back my Kms, so doing fewer atm. Good timing with the change to my training plan I guess! And no can't be shoes.7 -

Kim is it soleus? Anterior or posterior? It makes me think of a shin splint. Tendinitis at a muscle attachment due to increased training, sometimes a change in shoes and or hills. Good luck with it.0 -

It's posterior, coming around to the medial and if I massage I get pain along the inside of the shin too.
Could be a combination of increased training, and hills lol. Started increasing both and I noticed it started after running a route with a couple of big hills.
Today's run was mostly on the flat, and only 5k. No increase in pain, just a niggle but enough.2 -
Thanks all!

I barely ran today, but I hiked! I was able hike 3 smaller mountains that you can do and call it a "trifecta". The total was around 8 miles and about 1700 feet elevation gain. We started the first hike at about 6:15 am to beat the crowds (which meant a 3 am alarm), which was a very good decision. We saw only a handful of people for the first two peaks and the parking areas were empty when we arrived at each, but when we we got back down the second, it was packed. Fortunately the trailhead for the last peak was right from the same parking and it was only .5 miles to the summit, so we were able to finish up and get out of there. The day started at 48 degrees and ended at 80+ so that was another reason the early start was the key.
I got home and was exhausted but poor Stell had been home alone all day so I took a brief rest and refueled, then took her out for a walk/run. It was just going to be a walk but I realized quickly that I would NOT be into going back out again for a run, so we ran for pieces of it. Neither of us had the energy even to get to 2 miles (well, she probably did but the heat was a bit much) but at least it was done. And now it's gin and tonic on the patio time.

It does sound like a shin splint. They take a bit of tlc to heal, I have one still after years and no running. I suspect mine is gait and strain. Hopefully yours is just over training. Applying two finger pressure to a knot or the most sensitive spot and flex/extend your ankle can help alleviate the pain and break up the scar tissue trying to form.4 -

I ran 10 miles today. It was a pretty good run, but definitely hot and my pace was definitely slower than usual. I left the house at 7:50 this morning and it was already 71°F feels like 73°F with 99% humidity and a dew point of 71°. I ran for 1 hour and 50 minutes and when I got home it was 76°F feels like 77°F with 83% humidity and still dew point of 71°. And the winds had gone from 11 mph to 15 mph. But despite the heat and humidity it was a good run. I just had to remind myself that I was doing good even though it seemed like I was really slow.
We had thunderstorms last night and one of my dogs kept us awake for quite a while so I was definitely on the lookout for loose dogs this morning. They seem to get out a lot when it is stormy. I saw one German shepherd whose owner was trying to coral him. He followed after me but he wasn't barking at me and the owner said he was friendly so I just turned around and ran back towards the man and the dog followed. When I headed off again I thought I heard the dog coming up behind me again, but it was 2 different dogs, but they weren't barking or anything and I told them to go away and they did.
Today's run puts me just 2.15 miles short of my goal for May. I debated going ahead and running a couple of more miles since the forecast has storms most of the week. But it was just too hot and I feel pretty confident that I will be able to get at least 2.15 miles sometime in the next 7 days. I won't run if it is stormy, but if it is just rain I will.
@quilteryoyo Nice shoes and great run!
@renydo2 Great run! I love it when I just feel like going further than planned.
@marisap2010 Those pictures from the botanical garden are really cool.
@brittanystebbins95 That sunburn looks painful. Hope it feels better soon.

This is a goodie. My osteo got me tackling this spot regularly. I find digging directly under the shin bone with two thumbs is the most effective. Can hurt like hell if you have a knot, but will release it effectively.
Also, when rolling your calves, try switching your roller for a hard ball - this allows you to target the soleus better.2 -
Not much activity this week. TBH, I started feeling sick about 10 days ago. Ended up seeing the dr. on Mon. and waiting on test results... still waiting, but started feeling better over the past few days. Went for a couple walks yesterday and adding 2.26 miles for that. Today, ran 5.25 miles. Just about back to 100%, and still waiting on test results. I'm likely not going to make goal this month.

Ya it can hurt like a sumgun when you press on it. I swore when I found mine that it was a broken bone! Good reminder as runners to rub those leggies and feet’s for sore spots regularly.2 -
Ooh, have you noticed the *kitten* is gone! Let the swearing begin... and not just over tight muscles and other aches!

Why ya sick baby? (Been watching an awesome show documenting the night shift for paramedics in New Orleans, everyone is “baby”. Which in our nursing school; is a no-no... but I can “baby” you haha!) I hope you get results soon and glad you are on the mend!

5/19: 3.31 walk/run

5/24: 3.80 run/walk
May Miles To Date: 18.8 miles
Ran/walked today at the lake. I was tired but wanted to get out before the rains hit. My hip hurt after. Damn. Hoping its just tight hamstrings, flexors, psoas and not the injury that shall not be named.
@Faebert It was me that had a kid graduating virtually. She is officially a Texas Ex. It wasn't the same as in person but we still had fun celebrating.
We stepped outside to take a few pictures. We were standing in front of this planter and looked down and saw this guy. He ended up being there until after we went to bed but was gone this morning. Husband found him or another Bambi in the bushes at the top of the yard earlier in the day so mom must trust us or something.5 -

I don't know. It's not Covid, it's a stomach issue of some sort. I went to the dr. last Monday and he had no idea, but is testing for everything. I'm still waiting on test results. Like I said, I've been starting to feel better already. I think I'll be back on the mend before those lab results even come back. I'm really curious what they find. I'm assuming that it isn't a parasite since I'm improving. Likely some bacteria that I somehow got with food or water.
And you know, I've noticed they have been doing something with the water pipe outside. I don't know if it has been opened up at some point or not, but if it got opened and something got into the water, I could have gotten sick that way. What really bothers me is that they were doing something again on Sat. and left the hole in the ground open and some kind of tool sticking up out of it. It's been like that since Sat. afternoon.... It's right in front of where I park my car, so if I need to leave, I'll have to either pull their tool out or spend several minutes jostling carefully around it. I can back up a few inches before hitting the house, then turn the wheels and maybe be able to get around it. It's all a bother either way. If they tell me I had giardia or something, I'm going to send something to the city asking if they have been opening up the water without telling us.

Husband found him or another Bambi in the bushes at the top of the yard earlier in the day so mom must trust us or something.[/quote]
Oops. Sorry @katharmonic and @bearly63. Glad you had fun celebrating!
