@Elise4270 At least DH was looking. That's a start.
@Avidkeo When I worked in CA, I was walking from the parking lot to my office when we had an earthquake. I felt nothing, but everyone that was inside the building was freaking out and couldn't believe I didn't feel it. I guess it has to do with moving and not having both feet on the ground.
@katharmonic The hike sounds fantastic. Glad you got out early.
Thanks @kgirlhart !
@T1DCarnivoreRunner Sorry you've been sick. Glad you are feeling some better.
@bearly63 The baby is so cute. I've seen several pictures posted the last couple of days. Must be the season. Hope your hip feels better.

Sunny, upper 60s F today, with another breeze from the south to help with the humidity. Saw some squirrels, blackbirds, sparrows, lots of robins, and a baby bunny.

6.2 miles this morning. The rain started just as Garmin GPS synced. So at leat I was already out there when it started. It felt really good. I just took it slow and easy and relished in the refreshment.

Got in three miles before the rains come. Not too hot but the air was thick! Time for a shower and see what the misses has planned for me!😁. Oh yeah, that brings me up to 33 miles out of 40! Have a great day!!7

T1DCarnivoreRunner wrote: »T1DCarnivoreRunner wrote: »Not much activity this week. TBH, I started feeling sick about 10 days ago. Ended up seeing the dr. on Mon. and waiting on test results... still waiting, but started feeling better over the past few days. Went for a couple walks yesterday and adding 2.26 miles for that. Today, ran 5.25 miles. Just about back to 100%, and still waiting on test results. I'm likely not going to make goal this month.
Why ya sick baby? (Been watching an awesome show documenting the night shift for paramedics in New Orleans, everyone is “baby”. Which in our nursing school; is a no-no... but I can “baby” you haha!) I hope you get results soon and glad you are on the mend!
(Now I wanna be a paramedic, those guys and gals rock)
I don't know. It's not Covid, it's a stomach issue of some sort. I went to the dr. last Monday and he had no idea, but is testing for everything. I'm still waiting on test results. Like I said, I've been starting to feel better already. I think I'll be back on the mend before those lab results even come back. I'm really curious what they find. I'm assuming that it isn't a parasite since I'm improving. Likely some bacteria that I somehow got with food or water.
And you know, I've noticed they have been doing something with the water pipe outside. I don't know if it has been opened up at some point or not, but if it got opened and something got into the water, I could have gotten sick that way. What really bothers me is that they were doing something again on Sat. and left the hole in the ground open and some kind of tool sticking up out of it. It's been like that since Sat. afternoon.... It's right in front of where I park my car, so if I need to leave, I'll have to either pull their tool out or spend several minutes jostling carefully around it. I can back up a few inches before hitting the house, then turn the wheels and maybe be able to get around it. It's all a bother either way. If they tell me I had giardia or something, I'm going to send something to the city asking if they have been opening up the water without telling us.
My cats get cryptosporidium from pond water. It also can infiltrate the open pipes. Think I’ve seen cases of that one on “Monsters inside me” from bad city water. Or maybe it’s coccidiosis that my cat get... I wonder what their tool is worth on eBay...3 -
3.33 miles this morning. I came across a 4 foot rat snake on the trail but quickly went around him!
I’ve really been focused on what I eat recently because I have gained almost 25 lbs in the last year and a half. I weighed this morning, and I am down a little over 13 lbs in the last 6 weeks! Slow and steady. I’m not trying to lose a drastic amount, but I would love for all of my pants to button easily again. 🤣

Yeah, was thinking "it looks nice out, maybe I will ignore my coach and go for an easy run..." but then...
So went out for ice cream instead. Pretty much the same thing.11 -
Morning all.
@elise4270 and @ContraryMaryMary that knot activation thing seems to have helped. Woke this morning pain free. Though also been massaging and rolling a lot too, and avoiding big hills. No running today, rest day, and no work till 3pm, so going to go for a long walk, then some strength training. Then relax till work.10 -
ContraryMaryMary wrote: »Ooh, have you noticed the *kitten* is gone! Let the swearing begin... and not just over tight muscles and other aches!
@avidkeo and @quilteryoyo - I have never felt an earthquake outside or when I have been in my car. I have realized there was an earthquake when I saw things swaying that don't normally sway. Inside I definitely feel them, even little minor ones. I have always thought that was strange but it must have something to do with proprioception and how that changes in different situations.
@T1DCarnivoreRunner - hope you feel better and it is nothing serious.
@Tramboman - I love lilacs! They don't grow much in So. CA but my dad always had a bush at home in ID. I can still smell them!
@bearly63 and @pastorvincent - love the Bambi pictures! So cute!!
For the muscle soreness I got this ball to use to massage those 'spots' where I needed more focus than what a foam roller will provide. I have used it on my calves, glutes and against a wall for my shoulders and lats. I bought it many years ago and the price has gone up but even then I didn't need 2 so I split it with my daughter.

Ugh, I had things typed out and then lost it. Good running those that beat the rain, or didn't.
Hope you feel better @T1DCarnivoreRunner.
Congratulations to your daughter @bearly63! Also, beautiful little fawn.
@marisap2010 I first read rattlesnake instead of rat snake and wondered how you could report that so calmly. Yikes though at a 4 foot snake regardless but at least it wasn't a murder snake. And big congrats on your progress toward your goal, that's fantastic.
@skippygirlsmom great continued streak. Is this mountain near home or somewhere else?

I woke up to pouring rain this morning and decided that was a fantastic reason to stay in bed. After the 3 am wake up the day before this felt luxurious. Eventually I got up, the rain stopped, and I decided I better get going on my running plan for the day before it got too hot. I decided to explore a bit and had seen another runner post a week or so ago about a river trail north of here that looked beautiful. And flat. So I drove up there and it was still only about 68 degrees when I started, but 85% humidity. The trail was an out and back of about 4.5 miles total. I hadn't planned on necessarily doing the whole thing. But I was wearing my Boilermaker 15k tank top from 2 years ago, and I felt pretty good, so I decided what the heck - I had the shirt, I had a 9 mile trail, I'll just go ahead and do a 15k. I made sure to add on the extra at the turnaround, which worked perfectly to run the bridge across the river and back. This all seemed like a good plan until I was about 6 miles in and feeling tired and sweaty, and then I was kind of regretting this rash decision (but grateful I wasn't wearing a HM or marathon shirt ). There was no choice but to get back to my car though, so I tried to put myself in the mindset of running that 15k race and keep going until it was done.
And here's a funny thing - I finished my run in 1:43:04 today, and my time for the Boilermaker 15k in 2018 which the tank top was from was 1:43:08. Which is not a great 15k time for me, and the race is in July and was hot and hilly and today I stopped and took pictures several times (stopping my watch). But still, I was surprised to have completed the distance in pretty much the same time today on a whim.
A few pics, the first two are from yesterday's hiking and the rest from today at the Black River trail9 -
@Scott6255 Yeah for a refreshing run in the rain.
@marisap2010 Yeah on the weight loss. It feels great to lose and slow and steady is the way to go.
Hahaha @PastorVincent . That's really hot! Glad you decided on ice cream instead of running.katharmonic wrote: »

I took today as a cross training day. Got plenty of exercise in. I spent almost 2 hours mowing my lawn - Garmin says I walked 2.29 miles in so doing. Got done just in time to take a shower, eat a bite, and go play doubles tennis for a little over 2 hours. I hope to try out my new shoes tomorrow.4

@katharmonic dang that looks like a great place to run!

After the sun went down some we removed a mostly dead bush and replaced it with three butterfly bushes to make a little bumblebee grove:

You know how somedays you simply feel great and have a cracker run and somedays you don't. I was a don't today. Not quite sure why, however, I did give myself an intensive calf massage yesterday and that may have contributed to the leaden legs today. Also Pilates. Also luteal phase.
I had a 60 minute aerobic run scheduled and headed off after dropping the children at school so wasn't properly warmed up. I carried on until I approached a point in my route where I could chop home for a time of about 45 minutes. Oddly, not long after giving myself permission to cut things short, I started feeling much better and my pace picked up, so I carried on with my planned route for the full 60 minutes. Mental games!7 -

Ran out of time this morning in a spectacular way, so only 3km in the books. It was hot.
In other news, I've grown some sort of bump on the underside of my foot (3rd / 4th metatarsal-ish, for those so inclined), that hurts when walking but not so much while running. Hmm. Not sure what it is, and it seems too minor to see someone to find out. I'm going to give it a week and see if it goes away.7 -
It's 6pm. I am part way through my evening shift, and I'm tired. Went for a mammoth walk, 9k.it was absolutely beautiful and worth it, but took it out of me. I forgot how hard just walking distance can be.
And I annoyed the calf muscle.
So home, made dinner for a few nights (Thai Red coconut curry), had lunch, did some strength training, spa them massaged the heck out of the calf. Definitely helped.
Now at work, and slightly regretting the long walk. Enjoyed the dinner though!
Now I just want chocolate. Have to enjoy my banana instead.9 -

Dang it was too hot today! 5k, was planning to make it a tempo run, ran the first two miles on pace and then had to slow down and pour ice water over myself. I gotta keep pushing though or when it gets to be really hot later this summer I won’t be ready for it. I can’t believe it’s this hot already and not even June.
Hope everyone had a pleasant Memorial Day. My route took me behind a row of wealthy people’s backyards in the late afternoon, I got to smell sooooo many barbecues before I got home! A lot of big parties with tons of cars at some houses. We ordered bbq and I was reminded why I run, I ate literally every carb in sight - battered french fries, ketchup, bbq sauce, potato salad, Cole slaw (their slaw has a bunch of sugar in it) and was thinking, geez, this was probably a mistake, I bet my glucose is through the roof, and it was 111, which is barely elevated. Yay for running!9 -

Hot here in London today as well, though not quite on the same level as some of you! I had to slow down a bit but I got the 5.3 miles I planned to run done and dusted by about 8:30am. I think for my next run on Thursday I will try and get out earlier. Some stunning pictures that are making me very jealous of those running trails in beautiful places. Although my corner of the city is very lush and green, it is still road and pavement I’m running on. Dreaming of travel, sea and mountains...

@marisap2010 Congrats on the slow and steady weight loss....that is awesome!
@skippygirlsmom North Carolina correct? Which mountain are you speaking of?
@PastorVincent We all run for icecream!
@Avidkeo I was also given a tip for getting into small tight knots - put a golf ball in the freezer. Hard and cold. Glad its feeling better. Those pics are amazing. That food looks good and love the ocean pics!
@shanaber I agree about earthquakes. Felt a lot in LA inside. I was always afraid of sitting in traffic on the 10 heading into downtown and being stuck under an old overpass. After watching the 1989 San Fran earthquake live on TV (watching the World Series) while living in Philly, and seeing the 2 layer Nimitz Freeway pancaked, I was never the same. So many people died there.
@katharmonic Gorgeous trail to run on. Is this in a national park? I miss hiking. Can't wait til August and getting back to Colorado.
@quilteryoyo Amazing cross training. You must have been worn out at the end of the day.
@mari_moulin Great steady running!
@rheddmobile Yep I run for carbs and icecream, esp sour dough bread and butter. And wine.
@mbaker566 I would call that a Scooby Snack! Cute pup. Did I mention I run for Smores?
I did a Peloton challenge yesterday - rode for over 2 hours. Good music.
Today, roll, stretch, upper body and a recovery ride.
Tomorrow, hoping to run if the storms are over. We have gotten a lot of rain in the past 2 days.

@noblsheep - If that lump hurts I wouldn't wait too long to see someone about it before it gets worse.
@avidkeo - I agree about how walking can take the energy out of you but what a beautiful place to walk! The thing I hate about walking is it just takes so dang long to cover the same km/miles.
@mbaker566 - love all the pictures! How long do you typically have a foster? Did you see a change with everyone wanting a dog during the s-a-h? I am worried that now that it is ending and people will be heading back to work many of those adopted pups will no longer be wanted. Especially if they have been with their new families 24x7 and now are alone... Also didn't know a pup could get compartmental syndrome. I hope you get him too, he can use your caring touch. Love the picture with the water droplets on the leaves!
Make those s'mores with dark chocolate and I will eat them all. Otherwise just give me the roasted marshmallows!
@bearly63 - we had moved back to so cal when that earthquake hit. It was scary and I still have those thoughts about the overpasses all the time. We used to drive that stretch of the freeway all the time. Not daily but often enough.
Today is supposed to be the hottest day of the week and we are under an extreme heat advisory. I had planned today as a cross training day anyway so will just stay inside. Tomorrow I am hoping it will be a bit cooler so we can get out if I get up early enough.3 -

@bearly63 and @katharmonic I’m actually in Alabama and about 20 minutes from Monte Sano state park and run there a lot. It’s not like a huge thing, but it has lots of great technical trails.
@mbaker566 now that’s a party I can get behind
Pictures from yesterday.
My running partner - which explains my slow pace.
this section is called Stone Cuts, at one point you are inbetween the rocks and it gets dark and you are climbing on the rocks and the temperature drops...me I'm gonna break a leg in here some day because I'm so afraid of snakes I try to run through ha ha

I got so behind, so I'm hoping everyone had wonderful runs this weekend.
We're finally into summer running here! Feels great to be back in tank tops. I'll enjoy it for the few months that it lasts.
Hit my goal for the month (175 miles). My secondary goal was not to lose any weight this month and I'm trending well on that too.
