@Teresa502 So sorry for your loss; it is quite heartbreaking to lose a pet.
@PastorVincent I have done that before...hope the refurbs work out for you
@Scott6255 Good news!!
@janejellyroll Same kind of run here today; started raining about a mile in, then stopped, then light rain for the rest but the times it wasn't raining it certainly felt like it.
@bearly63 @quilteryoyo Thanks for the mentions on the run! I do like the swag too..The medal is a toilet paper roll! Ha
Managed 5.48 miles lol, kind of miscalculated to get to 5.5. Slow run, though it felt good in the run, the humidity not so much.

@Teresa502 I heard about those hikers. Didn't realize it was in your neck of the woods. Looks like you had a great hike and run. Love the pictures, except for the snake. Sorry about your cat. We miss our pets when they are gone.
@Scott6255 Glad you are okay and never showed any symptoms.
@kgirlhart Glad you had a good run. I hope Garmin can help with your watch issue. Hope they fix your watch and get it back to you soon.
@bearly63 Sounds like a nice run. All y'all are making me want to sign up for Peleton...if I ever get headphones. LOL One thing at a time.

sorry @Teresa502
it's always hard to lose a pet
it's so hot. it was freezing last week and now blech hot and humid
good news on my end. my shoes from the contest are in and i can go pick them up. and my check from restitution for financial hardship after my husband's death is finally ready. (only 3 years later)
now just waiting on my clothes from the contest and the irs to contact me re: them thinking i didn't pay taxes on my 401k that i had to cash after my husband died9 -

@hamsterwheel6 nice swag
@Camarmandy648 how long do you have to decide whether to defer or not? Maybe you can wait until the last minute and gauge the situation. So heartbreaking about George Floyd what is wrong with this world.
@quilteryoyo he was a pretty big guy too. Ha ha sounds like me, why did I come in the kitchen?
@brittanystebbins95 I have ended up with two dogs that honestly don’t care if it’s raining out. My german shepard was like oh no if I have to go out in the rain so do you. My Macy especially will walk out there like it’s a sunny day in torrential downpours.
@Teresa502 great pictures. I’m so sorry about your cat hugs
@kgirlhart nice job Garmin!
@mbaker566 stupid IRS

I did my Foundation Run on the treadmill today. Basically 40 minutes at an easy pace. Ran 3 miles and walked 1. I watched a murder mystery to keep me entertained.

Only seven hundred + posts behind, but I hit my goal today. This month was a nice break, as I did not overexert myself and none of my runs were longer than 40 minutes. Marathon training starts next week.10

Garmin said my watch is broken and I can send it in and they will repair/replace it. I hope it won't take too long to get it back. @avidkeo you recently sent yours in right? Did you take the band off of it or send the whole thing in? I may feel naked if I have to go a few days without my tracker.
@kgirlhart Woooo hooo!
I sent in the whole thing, just the watch though, not the charging cable or anything, but yes the straps. I got a new one (refirb? What ever) 10 days later. So so glad I sent it in. That one was definitely was not right. Now I have this new one I can see all the small issues I had with it was the watch, and not normal. Shame I didn't know till I knew how it was supposed to be like! And yes it was awful not having it.
@Teresa502 biggest hugs. Its so hard when they go. I still miss my mischief, and shes been gone 3 years now!
@brittanystebbins95 do it! It's pure agony, I won't deny it, but so far for me, been worth it. OK early days but am definitely feeling the best I have in a week.
@PastorVincent d'oh. That's annoying. Mental note, don't put my plantronics through the wash. We are behind the times here so still have plenty of old versions floating around. Let me know and we could probably work something out!
Wow it's just occurred to me how much gear I have based on referrals directly from here, actually pretty much all my running gear! Watch, headphones, tops (merino specifically) socks. Lol.
I went for a walk this morning, then did some strength training, and attacked the leg with the squash ball. Definitely better than yesterday, general use is fine, don't notice it anymore, but still painful when I hit those knots. But better.
9.5k run tomorrow - and only gentle hills until I know im back to better.
@eleanorhawkins did you know you can connect your garmin to the run with hal ap? So much easier!

@Teresa502 I'm so sorry about your beloved cat. No matter how long they live, it's not nearly enough.

I posted yesterday that it was super hot and humid morning run, and it got up to over 90 degrees. Which was extra fun when my power went out about 3:30 in the afternoon. Coincidentally just as my furnace/AC service person arrived to do the annual cleaning/service appointment that I waited forever for. It was a big outage and they were projecting some areas would be out of power until noon today. I hadn't heard that until I got home in the evening from an errand and my power was back on, but quickly went out again. Then I got the update and went out to get some ice for a cooler to save some food and used my car to cool off and charge my phone. Going to bed was super uncomfortable. Fortunately the power came back on for me at about 1:30 am. It was a reminder that stay at home COULD be a lot worse. Also, remember when it snowed just a couple of weeks ago?
Today was almost as hot. I ran about 2.3 miles in the morning while it was relatively cooler. I started off just intending to get 2 miles done because I had promised to meet a friend for a little more later after she got off work. But while I was running, I started just pushing it a little to get it done. My coach's workout for this week was a 20 minute tempo run so I decided this was more or less going in that direction so even though it wasn't technically that workout and I stopped twice to answer a quick text, I'm going to call it close enough. I figure the heat adds extra credit to make up for points lost.
When I met my friend later for a run along the canal it was 86 degrees and it was not a fun little run. We took a couple of little walk breaks but we got it done. At least the house was cool when I got home.

@katharmonic Yuck for the heat and power outage. You're extraordinary for getting out and running anyway. Glad your AC is back on now. I hate trying to sleep when it's so hot.0

I had my 4 weekly tempo test today. After a 15 minute warm up, I ran 7km at tempo pace, which is hard but sustainable, so around half marathon pace.
Problem is, I'm in the luteal phase of my cycle which leaves me lethargic and unmotivated (incidentally, you women who like data and stats, it's well worth tracking your performance against where you are in your cycle as it can have a massive impact on how you feel and how fast you run). Anyhoo, it was in my plan, so I headed off to do it because I'm a goodie two shoes like that.
I was hoping I'd perk up after my warm up, but I didn't. Instead I spent the whole time complaining loudly in my head. My lungs were happy enough, but my legs were heavy and my head was dreaming of coffee and cake.
For the last couple of kilometres I was mentally beating myself up as I had run this route last week at 5 minute pace or faster and had a whale of a time. Today I was working to maintain a 5:10 pace.
I got home feeling quite glum, certain, that despite allllll the hours of running I've done in the past month, my tempo test was slower than April's. However, when I checked the data, not only was my average pace 9 seconds per kilometre faster, but my average heartrate was lower. OMG. Who knew? Training pays off.
It goes without saying my mood shifted rapidly from gloomy to thrilled, and now that I've had my coffee and cake, I am content.
Happy running everyone!12 -

RIP Plantronics Backbeat Fit headphones July 17, 2018 - May 26th 2020. Please, instead of sending flowers donate to your local food pantry. Thanks.
So, I have actually had a surprising number of headphones survive this lesson....even cheap ones, that are not considered waterproof at any level. I cannot tell you why they still work, but I have both a running set (Bluetooth) and work set (hardwired) in my rotation that survived at least one wash cycle!
I’m behind pace for goal.... but today was cross training in the form of accepting delivery of treadmill, and beginning assembly, I realize none of this explains being behind goal. But maybe it will help in the future. But tomorrow may be further assembly, only.

Actually @PastorVincent have you put them in a bag of rice, and left in a warm space - like where your water heater is? I'm amazed at the number of electronics that I have revived doing this technique. The rice helps soak up the water, and the heat helps evaporate the water. Definitely worth a try!0 -
@Avidkeo yes I discovered that about Hal & Garmin, very useful once I persuaded the two to be friends.
On the subject of He Who Must Be Obeyed... I was starting to hate him less this week as it's a cutback week, so this morning he was like "ok, hill repeats!" B***ard! There was one hill repeat session right back at the start of this so-called base training he has me on. I usually switch the incline on my treadmill between the 1 and 2 settings while I'm running. That first time, I did the repeats at 4. Today I decided to be brave and do 6, in part because that's the first 'instant incline' button on my treadmill so if would save repeatedly clicking the incline buttons while also clicking the speed ones. I messed the middle repeat up by clicking the + instead of the 6 and not realising until half way through, but other than that I did it. It hurt. It's gonna hurt more tomorrow. And he has the same workout planned for next Thursday, too.
I've had to resort to staying on the dreadmill again. Spanish government decided to make masts obligatory in public. Runners don't have to wear them while running, but have to carry them and put them on if they can't keep 2m separation and when walking before and after their runs. With my luck, and as I run-walk-run, I would be bound to get stopped by the police during one of my 30 second walk breaks and fined. And I REALLY can't be bothered doing mask on-mask off-mask on-mask off. Hope they lift the rule soon!
Next week is the final week of this base training, then I start on the HM plan. Having used the 'novice' plans 3 times now, I went for the 'intermediate' this time but whereas they're 5 days on paper the app adapted it to the 4 days I told it I want to run per week. Looking at the mileage, it's going have me doing more total weekly distance than I've ever done before, so (me being me) I'm starting to ask myself if it's a good idea. Then again I've nothing to lose so will just see how it goes, as there is no real physical race at the end I can always adapt along the way.

Morning all - lots of catching up for me this morning! @Scott6255 great news on the family! @Teresa502 - I’m so sorry for the loss of your cat. Beautiful hiking pics. Lovely scenery for you too @skippygirlsmom - thank you both for sharing.
@PastorVincent - sad times, I hope @Avidkeo’s tip helps. I tried it after I inadvertently took my iPhone for a swim in the sea but it was beyond help. Well done @ContraryMaryMary for smashing it and @MegaMooseEsq for getting back into it. Sorry about the cancellations @Camaramandy648 - so disappointing. Hope everyone else is doing well, coping with the heat and overcoming those injuries and illnesses.
Got 10k in the bag this morning, and my pace seems to be continuing to improve, despite the warmer weather. I’m hoping this means I’m getting fitter. I’m definitely feeling better doing alternate days running and strength training.
Have a great day all x

@Teresa502 I’m sorry for the loss of your cat. It’s good that you got to say goodbye, though! I hate it when outside cats just never come home one day, and you’re left wondering.
5 miles today. We weren’t sure whether we would run today or not since the forecast showed storms all day, but then today rolled around and there was nothing on the radar. Checked one last time, forecast had updated to zero chance of rain, ate my pre-run snack and laced up my shoes - and heard the sound of thunder. Seriously? We decided to head out anyway, violating my rule against running in lightning, and although there was a little light rain, it didn’t last long and cooled the air down nicely. Then a bonus double rainbow! Couldn’t get a picture of it because the phone was in a baggie to stay dry. The lightning was pretty spectacular to look at but never came within miles of us.
The upside to running in rain was that we didn’t pass a single soul except for one old man who apologized as we passed because his tree was blocking the sidewalk. We assumed he had work done and was waiting for the city to collect branches (which it does in its own sweet time - it’s supposed to be weekly but I have seen wood by the side of the road for two months or more) and he explained that he had workmen over and they drove over his poor innocent cherry tree and broke it off at the base! Poor tree! Poor guy! Anyway we stopped to commiserate before running on.5 -
@ContraryMaryMary Yeah for your run! It's great when one that feels awful turns out to be so good!
@hanlonsk Congratulations on your new treadmill.
@eleanorhawkins I'm supposed to be doing hill repeats today and was wondering how I should do them on the treadmill. Thanks for sharing your experience. I may not get to run as I'm needing to clean up some trees that have fallen near my driveway. We shall see how I feel after that is done.

Could it be? A rainfree weekend in the forecast! Relatively mild temperatures too.
I realized this morning that Strava has moved the total miles for the month to their paid version and there's no good way to see it on my free account. I understand some of the fancier features getting moved, but I really didn't think this counted as "premium"-style content. Oh well!

I did a stress test for my heart once that was basically hill repeats on the dreadmill where every hill got much worse! The nurse was like "Anit no one ever made it 17 minutes" or something, so I was like "CHALLENGE ACCEPTED!"
The last hill I had to hold the rails to keep from falling off the back of the dreadmill. It was a greater slope than I could have stood still on, but I DID IT. I stopped at 17:0110 -

Today's workout was hill repeats. Good lord, that was a long hill. About 1 mile from bottom to top, along a golf course, with various grades of steep along the way. The hardest part is right at the top of course. We did the hill 3 times up and down. Thank goodness it's a bit cooler today but the humidity is still bad. The forecast is for thunderstorms tomorrow and then a big cool-down for the weekend. Which will be great, because I'm thinking of running a HM distance on Saturday.6 -
@PastorVincent I’m still trying to figure out why your wash cycle is 2 hours.
@rheddmobile I love when I see a double rainbow. Poor cherry tree.
@janejellyroll under my training log in Strava I can see my weekly runs for the whole month, but not a total.

@katharmonic On the app I can't (only the option to start a free trial), but I just looked on the web version and I can see everything. Thanks!1
