Just a quick update (work is busy today!). Lucy showed up last night at 8:45 p.m. She was gone a full 48 hours. She looks to be ok but rather exhausted from her travels. Think maybe she accidentally got locked in a garage or some such thing. It was good to see her trotting into the garage.
Pip-your fall sounds nasty. You've not had good luck with such things of late.
Take care all,

M – I’m so sorry you’re still being hounded. No, that wasn’t an app, it was an article in our local paper. Liked the fencing cartoon. How true!
There was another ad in the paper talking about how business should be brought back to the US, what have we learned from this experience? It said that China can't be trusted since they knew about this but didn't tell us. We need to be less reliant on others and more on ourselves (the US).
Amber – can you call the magazine company and tell them the correct address. OK, they probably have it already, but you can mention that you get their magazine delivered to your house. Maybe there’s a reason? Please don’t ask me what it could be
Pip – OUCH!!!
Barbie – I’m getting more and more better at planning. Like I want to plan out what we’re going to have for dinner next week so that I don’t have to make multiple trips to the store to get meats
Julie – getting that CT scan will be fine. Think positively
A minor miracle happened – Denise remembered! She said she just put PJ down for a nap and when he wakes up we’ll Skype. I honestly didn’t think she’d remember. Well, I have his cake all ready and put a number “1” candle on it.

Pip - Oh, b....r. ! Grrrrrr!
My son called round to collect Max's card. We also gave him the package label for the robot dog, as the off button isn't working. I've emailed him the email receipt. He will have to exchange it in West Hove, as the central shop is not open. Very annoying. I apologised to Max on Zoom and he said "No need for an apology". I could hear his mother's phrasing!
They also dropped off a card from Edie she made last week.

I belong to something called Next Door Neighbor. People write in about what in going on in our neighborhood both the good and not so good.
Someone wrote in today that there is a new grandparent scam. She said the voice on the other end sounded just like her grandson. He started off with about a best friends parents died form Covid-19 and then talked about how he was in trouble and need her to call this lawyer. She called her daughter and found out it was a scam. She did not call the lawyer.
Sorry about your fall Pip.

Hi all, I have been reading along for the last couple of months & decided to jump in.
I retired just over a year ago when I turned 65. I had been planning to move after I finished working and I managed to buy my ‘retirement home’ last fall. Although things have gone pretty much to plan, a few things have not, due to the staying at home. I can no longer go to the gym 3x a week, which is perhaps why my weight loss has stalled. I do still manage to walk outside either in my neighborhood or by the ocean 5 miles a day, and I am very happy each day that I now spend most of my time in such a beautiful area. I live alone, & the isolation has been challenging. As of yesterday, I have successfully managed 7 weeks w/out going out to shop. I’ve had perishables delivered from a local grocery store via instacart 3 times and non perishables delivered via UPS/USPS from Walmart/Target once each. It hasn’t been easy, and it’s taken some planning & impulse control, but I tell myself if I’ve gained any wisdom in a long life of ups and downs, I know that with patience and determination this too will pass, as have all the other challenges life has thrown at me & when I look back at my behavior I want to be able to say that I did my part with grace and humor.
I do plan to venture to an outdoor nursery to buy plants this week after I have a list of what I want to buy to minimize the time I’m there. Since the nursery is outdoors & I now have masks, I’ve decided the visit is a ‘want’ I’m ok w/ fulfilling. Perhaps next time I need groceries I’ll actually do my own shopping, depending on where the numbers are when the need arises.
It was sobering to read in the N.Y. Times this morning that the administration expects that by the end of the month to see an increase in the US covid -19 deaths per day to 3,000 and the positives to increase to 200,000 per day. I hope those numbers don’t materialize.
It has been fascinating, at times confusing, and at times inspiring, to read the different approaches each of you have taken to the current challenges. I especially enjoy the humor & the beautiful photographs many share as well....Here’s another thing: I need M&M’s for PJ’s cake. Normally, what I would have done is buy two packages and if I didn’t need the second one, on my next trip to that store I would have returned it. But the stores aren’t taking returns. So…if when I decorate the cake today I find that I need more M&M’s, I’m going to have to go back to the store. So in my case the stores are encouraging people to go out....
I’m ok w/ stores not taking returns. I think it discourages hoarders if they realize they’ll have to live with their excessive purchases. I’m so clueless, I didn’t even know you could return things to grocery stores, so it’s a relief to me to know that nothing I buy at present has spent time in someone else’s home.

PIP ~ So sorry about your fall. Healing prayers for you.
REBECCA ~ Love the spaghetti girl.
MICHELE ~ So glad Denise remembered about the Skype.
I went to Walmart at 8:30 AM mainly to return some shirts I had ordered online and found out they would not take returns in the store. I hope at some point that they will as I do not want to have mail them back to Walmart.
Question: Are any of you wiping down your grocery type purchases when you get them home? My husband has been very, very good about doing this.
The big shopping malls opened up here today...we will not be going. We have not even done pick up curb service for restaurant food. I would love to be able to get a frozen margarita but guess that will be a future treat at some point.
This has been very hard on my BnL in the assisted living facility. They will not let anyone in but staff and if he leaves his room, he must wear a mask. He keeps coming up with things he wants my husband to get him and doesn't seem to understand that we are the elderly who must not go out (just like him).

Managed to find out the number for the magazine googled you a storm called ALL magazine delivery companies until one knew the customer! Woohoo they made a note 📝 that customer refusing to pick it up from my house y to deliver it to the homes by a home numbers not the gps !

Finally!! The newspaper company delivers it!2 -
Carol- I wipe down certain things but not all .food Mail delivered to door 🚪 I don’t track it for weeks to a-month darn stuff should be dead by now! Bought at store depends is it bread or tortilla or meats going straight in the fridge I don’t. Box of cereal or canned I put in back of pantry the clean ones in front so by the time we use them it will have been weeks. Some we leave in the garage awhile until it’s been weeks. Bag of salad mix type stuff YES I do cause it has to be used right away! Creamer bottles yes!! Juice in fridge yes! Especially since we naturally forage in refrigerators touch everything

SuziQ: Have I already laughed at this wonderful message? If not, I should have done. Here is my reply: May the 4th is upon us. Lettuce romaine wise and diligent in choosing our daily salad. Do not succumb to the chilly iceberg. It lacks strength and fiber.
We have been enjoying our view of the river. Today we saw the Osprey dive into the water in front of our house and fly away with a fish to feed its family. Far more rare, we also had a Bald Eagle land at the edge of the river bank and get a drink of water in full view of DH and me. After getting a good drink and bath, the Bald Eagle flew away. Sadly, we didn't manage to get a good photo.
Have a good day and stay safe.

RV Rita.....these are for you. I can't seem to get a really good picture of her web. She has pieced together an octagon of connecting full webs. It's beautiful. Her dead mate is hanging in one of them. Oh, if it were only so easy....😆

Pip! ... someone as coordinated as you are on a bike fell walking!?! So sorry for your injuries ...
Tonya ... welcome! Very sorry for your loss...
Michele ... to be honest, the idea of people returning food items is kinda gross to me. I understand returning a spoiled or expired item, but that's about it.
Machka ... glad to see you posting again. Without question, your fatigue is a delayed stress response. Listen to your body's signals.

Made a hair appointment for May 19th as I saw on her front door that she is opening up next week. I was one of her last customers before the lockdown and she could hardly believe she might have to close. I told her it was extremely likely. I don't think she believed me.
I will do all the hand sanitizing stuff and may devise some kind of mask that doesn't get in the way of the hair trim. I may wash my hair at home and just go in for the trim and then dry it at home. It is just around the corner.

I have been wiping down everything coming into the house. All vegetables are cleaned too, if loose. If not loose the vegetable bags are also wiped down.
I did get a pair of sneakers delivered. I knew when they shipped so I opened shipping box outside and did not worry about the one inside because my hands were washed before removing it and bringing in to the house.
I know at least 70% of us will eventually get this virus. If I'm one of that percentage I would rather it be when more proven medicines are available and the hospitals are not in crisis mode.

(i have a prescription given in jan). i was putting it off. i hope it'll be useful. i was supposed to have specialist blood work up in march but that's pushed forward to june due to confinement starting march 17 here. it was too much of an emergency context then to maintain regular appointments.

What a beautiful keepsake you created. Your father was a handsome man.1 -
Karen,
Thank you for sharing the story of your relationship with your father. I can understand his pain to think all the girls were sexually active and why it would trouble him so.2 -
Oh Drat! Copied Barbie’s “Chicken in Peanut Sauce” recipe, forgetting that I’d saved a HYUGE! post-in-process. I’m not going back, so consider my usual sort of reply, each of you, except you, Tonya, since you don’t know me yet. Stick around! What I’ve read of your posts so far are very relatable. I lost my father 30 years ago VERY suddenly. He’d had a quadruple bypass and valve replacement several years before, then went out for a walk as usual one afternoon. A group of construction workers saw him fall. Two knew CPR, and one ran to telephone. Ambulance was there in minutes, but he was gone. Autopsy said “massive cardiac event”. We’ve all wondered since then whether he got one of the “exploding” replacement valves. I had no money to go back 2200 miles for the funeral. I was saddened for me and my daughters who’d met him for the first time a few months before at ages 12, 10 and 3. Even the 3yo still has some memories, for which I’m grateful. He’d been left to raise my brother and I alone at ages 14 and 18 when my mother died of breast cancer. Both of us became very troubled. My brother was institutionalized for the next 5 years and addicted to drugs for a good part of the rest of his life. I got put on academic probation at college my 2nd year (mom died in my 1st) and crawled into a bottle for a number of years, making horrible choices for husbands and lovers three times. When my dad and stepmom came to visit I was newly sober and not quite ready to confide in him yet, for fear I’d lapse. I now have 35 years.
Barbara AHMOD, I’m sorry to hear of the sudden death of one of your instructors! Somehow every relationship is invested with a special aura just now. We’re all more acutely aware of loss from any cause just now. Take time to miss them.
All the baby /flower/window/wildlife/scenery posters! Thank you!
Oh dear, Pip! I hope you heal quickly with no permanent rearrangement of that charming grin!
Rita, your photos are always so lovely and/or interesting! Loved the lizard too.
Barbie (?), thank you for the chicken recipe! I’m tempted to try that with shrimp, if which I have an over abundance in my freezer right now!
Ginny, I’m so relieved to hear your cat is back! Since I live surrounded by a state forest on 3sides and overgrown clear cut on the 4th mine became indoor only after the loss of old Mr. Topsy 5 years ago. Andromeda’s never known the out-of-doors. Goldie rarely escapes, but can usually be coaxed back in after a while by yelling “Nummies!” and shaking a bag of what the UK folks call “Dreamies” from inside the sleeping porch.
The view from my window!

Food rantI am so very disappointed in my dinner tonight. About 10 days ago, my husband took one of his far and few between trips out of the house and traveled south into a very rural community to purchase chicken at a local chicken farm. We've had a shortage on chicken and meat for quite some time in our area. The local chickens weren't ready, but the farmer had "commercially processed" chicken available in large bags for purchase. At 1.60 per pound for boneless breasts, my husband bought two large bags which we divided and shared with neighbors. The breasts were huge and that was my first clue. Tonight we had some of that chicken, prepared with a method I always have success with. It was so tough and hard I couldn't even insert a meat thermometer to check for the correct temperature, let alone eat it. Such a waste. I've contacted all the neighbors and they assure me that theirs has been fine ... so I'm hoping these pieces were an anomaly ... but I suspect my neighbors are just being nice. Dang! And I still have some of this chicken left ... any ideas on how to make it edible?? I hate to throw away food ... although tonight's dinner is in the garbage.
SuziQ ... I know that I will eventually be exposed to this virus as well and for the same reasons you mention I hope it's later, not sooner. And for my medically fragile son, it may be the difference between life and death.
Glenda ... the alcohol question ...I'm guessing you're not wondering how to tell your friend you don't drink as much as you're trying how to tell her you only drink during your eating window. Is that correct? Very few people understand the fasting/eating window concept and think its BS. But your success proves differently. I would hope she would continue to support you. Question: Is your friend, by chance, overweight?
In other news ... my younger son's graduation cap and gown arrived today by 2-day air ... the graduation was Saturday. Think they missed the boat on that one. Of course, he would only have worn it in our family room ... which wouldn't have happened. We asked if he would at least put it on for us ... got a negative on that... sigh. Why are they things that are so important to us of so little importance to our children?? I've already told him that if he doesn't want the diploma, I do ... I paid for it after all. I'm going to frame it and hang it up.
I am so envious of you all being able to be outside. Yesterday was near 70, but tonight there's a freeze warning and the temperatures are dropping for the rest of the week. Sheesh.

The bag of boneless chicken thighs is about 1.75 pounds. When you buy chicken at Costco it comes in a packaging that is three separate bags connected and I used only one of the three bags. I looked at more chicken I had in my freezer and the current three pack was 5.19 pounds for the three bags.2 -
Carol, I don't wipe down the things I get from the grocery store or Costco. I guess we each have to decide just how thorough to be.2

Regarding tough old chickens:
One way to deal with a tough old bird is to boil it & cut the meat into stew sized bites or smaller, then make chicken pot pie & chicken soup. If that doesn’t help, you might experiment with a grinder and make chicken burger.4 -

Or, half the breasts so you get two thinner ones and pound the heck out of it. Good way to tackle stress too.2 -
