I empathise with your desire to retire, although I would imagine you would be just as busy! It’s just the way you are. And I’m in no hurry to get out of lockdown, but then I’m not dependant in working for an income. But as you say, it would be wonderful if people were able to work in a more conducive way. I know my family have found working from their respective homes much more pleasant.

A couple really big things for me are:
Commute -- between work and uni, I used to commute 10 hours a week. Now I've got about 10 extra hours a week and that's pretty significant.
Before working at home, I considered 7 hours of sleep a really good night's sleep for a weeknight and I often didn't quite get there. Now I can usually get 7.5 hours a night.
Plus I can usually do a little cleaning task each day as well.
Exercise -- when DST ends and the great darkness comes, I usually don't get much exercise in daylight. I don't see much daylight at all.
Now I can stop work while it is still light ... go for a walk to the beach and along the cliffs, etc. ... and then pick up my work again when I get home.
Or I can head downstairs and workout with one of our pieces of equipment when I have the energy rather than waiting till the end of the day and not really having the energy.
I also like being able to open the windows, listing to ABC Classic FM during the day, being able to stop and play with Rhody, being able to take a nap occasionally if I want, and sitting in front of this view ...

Grandma > Wow, where are you that has everwhere opened up like that? Please be careful when you are out and about. I feel
the places that are openening up are doing so far too soon and I fear it will just bring the second wave. Hopefully not
but please take care
Amber > I cannot imagine how hard that must be for you! Before the quarantine my daughter went to Germany with school and then went to Switzerland. I missed her just the short time she was gone. A friend of mine who is a sailor is at sea right now. He was supposed to be home the beginning of April but with all this craziness is stuck on board as they cant get flights out to take him home. I hope you are able to visit safely with her soon x Never heard of 90day before? is it a series?
Sue > Wow horses and goats, geez if you were close my daughter would go nuts if she could visit with your horses. She is a horse
lover and has taken private riding lessons for quite some time. She actually had a bad fall from a horse who got spooked and she had broken her humerus right in half. I though this would scare her enough to stop riding (I hoped it would be be honest) but not for too long as she is back riding again in her lessons
Flea > So sorry to hear about your sickness, I hope you are feeling better real soon. Getting sick during this time is worse than
normal times with the fear of Covid out there. Please be safe and if it gets any worse be sure to contact someone x Ps. Nice to meet you as well
Barbie > I totally feel you, I myself are in the high risk group along with your husband. My husband had to leave work a week before everyone else and my daughter with school because of it. With my respiratory issues, BMI, Diabetes and sleep apnea, This bug scares the crap out of me. My husband goes out to get the food etc but only when necessary. Our stores are okay for food etc as well, just limiting how much you can take of course to try and stop all the panic buyers.
That chicken with coconut milk sounds delish How are the calories on that? would love a recipe
Kim > Nice to meet you and thank you for the welcome Chatty bunch is always good!! I struggle with the activity as I have mobility issues but I will get there Slow and steady wins the race!
Rebecca> She is so adorable and love the spaghetti face!! I love her name!!!! Athena (Godess of war). Perfect name for the little warrior
Barbara > So sorry to hear about your friend. That is horrible. Dancing on the basketball court is a good idea though and will help you to keep fit. The weather here has been gloomy and horrible really as well so does not help your moods.
Evelyn > Thank you very much for the condolences and the welcome. I intend to hang around Yikes at braving it out to go outdoors. I have not been outdoors in months. I asked my husband if going to the grocery store was like the apocolipse or something and he said *yeah kind of* ..lol Queing around the parking lot in morrisons.. crazy stuff. The steaks sound wonderful though.. I have not had a steak in along time!! Nothing like steak on the BBQ though! I am pretty much low maintenance so dont actually get nails done etc so the expensive steak for me it would be Hope it is delicious as im sure it will be xx
Viv> Thank you so much for the condolences and welcome Yes it was the hardest time in my life. It was 3 days before my birthday and it did happen very fast. The doctors were saying that he could live for years with cancer treatment. He had one of his kidneys removed as it was full of cancer.. then it spread to the lungs, liver but it was small spots. They thought it could be treated but then it spread quickly to his bowel and his brain.. he did not last long once this was discovered. Not being able to be at his side as I could not travel to Canada was the worst part. It's so hard to imagine my life without him in it.
Wow I have not even tried to get delivery from Tesco. I have been doing alright the last couple times with Icleand though. With my depression among other things the house has not been organised. It is the perfect time to do it though.. should really get off my butt and get it done xx
Karen > Thank you very much. I have so many good memories of my Dad.. he was amazing (literally a walking miracle) . story for another time He was the Cadillac Man.. Going to head home to Canada next summer and myself, my two brothers and my best friend are all getting tattooes done with my Dad's ashes mixed in the ink. It will be the Cadillac symbol. I do look forward to it
My mom wanted me to create an image for her of my dad with certain pictures she chose to use so she could print it off and put in a frame.. this was what I came up with. She did love it very much so it was worth making it for her (I cried the entire time making it)

@BARBARA I'm so sorry about you having lost your dance teacher suddenly. I can understand your sadness.
@MACHKA 10h commute is a lot. Here people (even pre-covid) were allowed to choose to stay home telework 1 or 2 days per week in many places; it's more and more the case.
GOOD NEWS. In November, very last minute and i applied - upon suggestion of an elder worker - for a sort of "qualification" process. i was kind of fed up with various efforts and not really wanting to put any effort into this PLUS the info was not circulated well in advance in terms of dates and had an unexpected surcharge of work, and bugs. But i did apply and found out today unofficially (unofficially tomorrow) that i did get qualified for applying for a certain type of job. The jobs are still competitive but having the official "qualification" is a step up in status, with my peers. There may be 50-100 qualified people (i don't know) and maybe 10 jobs open in this field and not all of my skills. That is some good news. As i haven't had much in a while. I'm grateful. That allows me to apply for this year and following 3 years.5 -
Did a Cool It Off DVD today. My goal for the past month or so was to do some pilates or yoga at least once a week. I think I’m going to amend that to include stretching. Pilates and yoga are a lot of stretching. The plan for tomorrow is to do an extreme cardio DVD
Amber – I’m thinking that one of the reasons those government employees didn’t wear their masks correctly was because it was warm out (in the 70’s) with lots of sunshine. They were probably sweating and the mask was just uncomfortable in the heat. If I’d worn my shorts, I bet I would have gotten a tan….lol
Barbie – oh, that cat pic is priceless
Exercised, then put the crumb coat on PJ’s cake. In a few I think I’ll go to Aldi since Vince is out of a few things. I’ll go early when there aren’t a lot of people there. Have a load of laundry in the wash so maybe when it goes into the dryer I’ll go to Aldi. Also brought some things up from downstairs to go to the Salvation Army tomorrow.
Katie – how can someone NOT be able to disinfect between each client??? Good for your mom not going there
M – there was an article in our paper that the schools around here won’t be open until next semester. They also took my temp this last time I went to the dentist. They didn’t the time I went to have the crown put in. It’s great that you can find the positive in this shut down. And it’s good that the specialists said your hubby should never return to work. Now you won’t be hounded (hopefully)
One of the nice things about this social distancing thing is that you don’t have to stand and talk to someone if you don’t really want to. Like when I walked the material over to the lady yesterday, her husband came out. We were so far away from each other that I just told him I’d left the material and went on my way.
Vince was saying that he wanted to write a letter to the editor of the local newspaper (I don’t know if he will or not) talking about how long the wait was at hazardous waste. I just told him not to mention that I have taken things to the Salvation Army. Why? People might not realize that they are now accepting donations and once they do, the Salvation Army could be overwhelmed. I just would like to get rid of my stuff and then he can mention it. After this donation he can mention it. So maybe he won’t write that letter until after I’ve made all the donations.
I also want him to go thru some of the toys we have. I can give some of them to a friend of mine. I’ll just drop them off for her tomorrow. Well, if he doesn’t get to it, I guess I can do it at another time.
SuziQ – thanks for the explanation of why no rain checks
Tonya – welcome. Sit a spell and put up your feet. I’m so so sorry you weren’t able to be with your father.
KJ – I think we found the skeleton of some dead critter. Don’t know which one, but it was a bit disconcerting to see it. You never cease to amaze me all the things you do with/for your kids.
Barbie – I guess part of the reason that I’ve gone out so much is because things are starting to open up around here. As a matter of fact, one business has opened up. The police have stated that they aren’t going to do anything unless there’s a complaint. Even then, my suspicion is that they’ll just go and talk to the owner. I think I was in and out of Aldi in 15 minutes. That is SOOOO not like me. Here’s another thing: I need M&M’s for PJ’s cake. Normally, what I would have done is buy two packages and if I didn’t need the second one, on my next trip to that store I would have returned it. But the stores aren’t taking returns. So…if when I decorate the cake today I find that I need more M&M’s, I’m going to have to go back to the store. So in my case the stores are encouraging people to go out.
I was just reading an article about the proposed things different businesses will be doing. It says that Verizon will have this scanner so that their employee never has to touch the item. Is that saying that multiple customers will be touching the scanner? I would think if that was so that it would be best for one person (the employee) to touch the scanner. Who knows? The article also mentioned that you’d have to call the gym to make an appointment when to go there. That’s really not a big deal for me. I only use two gyms for two classes and the other gym pretty infrequently (maybe once every 2 or 3 months). And if for some reason I can’t make it, no harm done. The gym I go to to use the equipment – same thing. I usually don’t like to go if it’s raining out. But if I make an appointment and don’t keep it – no harm done. I still think that Newcomers should suspend all their activities until at least everything is open, even then wait another month or two. We are primarily senior citizens and should not be going out. Games night is not a live-or-die thing. I guess we shall see what happens. It says that churches will open with limited capacity. Does this mean that if you want to go to church and there’s already the maximum allowed there, you are turned away? If that is so, I can see people saying “why bother going when I might not even get in”
Got some of the things ready for the Salvation Army tomorrow. I need to have Vince go thru some things so that I get the description right. Looks like with any luck this will be the last time I make a donation for a while.
Doesn’t look windy out so I might go and string some popcorn. Yes, I know that Christmas is 7 months away. But I’ll be ready if anything….lol
Iced PJ’s birthday cake for us to celebrate tomorrow. Got most of the things ready for the Salvation Army, still waiting on Vince for the rest. Did some stringing of the popcorn. My friend’s monitor came so she came over to pick it up.
Ginny – hope all’s OK with Lucy.
Amber – love your pics of JR
Tonya – Randi is so adorable. How old is she now? Peachy is Carol GA
I just heard that in the US now there are a million barrels of beer that will soon be going out of date. Something to think about....
Monday here: Did an extreme cardio DVD. I don’t know why I put that one in the pile of DVD’s that I wasn’t sure about. It’s quite good. The plan for tomorrow is to do a Jeanette Jenkins Cardio Sculpt DVD
Rebecca – I LOVE looking at pictures of Athenia. Keep them coming!
Barabara – I am so sorry about your instructor
Flea – get better soon

Thanks for the comments on my pictures! The lizard is a rare yellow spotted lizard and was about 8 inches long!
Going to get back to strict KETO I have 13 pounds still to go.

Rita - as Kim mentioned, this is Scotch Broom which is also very invasive here in WA State. Plus, a whole lot of folks are allergic to that beautiful yellow pollen, and I'm one of them. Maybe there's a chance it's triggering some of your allergies?

Good morning peeps!
Update on the Fire Cider - I'm ready to make another batch, this time will put in lots more garlic, more red pepper, and maybe some already ground horseradish and fresh turmeric instead of the powder if I can find some.
The cider I decanted a few days ago is pretty good, I stirred in some honey and I've been using it to thin store-bought Litehouse Caesar Caesar salad dressing I use which is always super thick. Could probably just whisk a bit into plain old mayo and call it good. The garlic is still pretty potent tho. Yes!!
Rebecca - love the cute Athena photos! Do you find the turmeric in your broth settles?
Karen in VA - thank you for sharing that story about your dad.
Barbara - so sorry to hear about your dance instructor.
Glitter-wise, it will be interesting to see what happens as the different states open up various businesses. Hopefully the results will be better than expected, especially with summer coming on, so the younger healthy folks (under 60) can get on with their lives.
OK, dogs are giving me "the look". Back later - have a fabulous day!

We have continued to be "hounded" since the reports from the specialist ... the first report was several months ago. The insurance company has chosen, so far, to ignore the reports so nothing has changed. As I mentioned earlier, the insurance company has the bulk of the power ... but we're exploring our options. It is, unfortunately a bit expensive and time consuming.bananasandoranges wrote: »@MACHKA 10h commute is a lot. That's 10 hours per week. My work commute is at least 1.5 hours a day, 5 days a week = 7.5 hours. If there is any sort of traffic jam, it's longer. Then, it takes me almost an hour to walk to the university and a good hour to get home again, sometimes more.
Commute complaining ...Several times last semester, the bus which should have picked me up at a certain spot after my late class drove right past. I complained each time and was initially told that it was my fault (I didn't signal, I wasn't there or whatever), then I was told that the buses were too full to pick me up ... finally one day, another would-be passenger and I stood on the side of the road at the bus stop hopping up and down waving at the bus as the bus driver waved at us and kept driving. I called it in immediately, they checked the bus stop and bus cameras and sure enough ... there we were flagging the bus down in quite a dramatic way, and there went a half-empty bus! The driver was reprimanded and told to pick passengers up from that stop. But by then, I only had a couple more classes in the semester. Nevertheless, it meant that last semester, my class ended at 5 pm, it took me half an hour to walk to the bus stop only to be ignored when I got there, and then I had to wait another half hour before a half hour ride home ... 1.5 hours to get home.
This sort of thing happens with annoying regularity with other routes too. For my morning commute, if I happen to miss my usual bus, the timetable says the next one should be along within 15-20 minutes ... but it doesn't usually come for at least 30 minutes and sometimes I end up walking to another stop that goes a different route because it doesn't look like it's going to come at all.bananasandoranges wrote: »That is some good news. JR y him are always the same temp y I’m always lower than them y Daughter higher than both of them normally. I keep track of these things luckily for years. Leftovers y unknown dinner. Exercising today slowly until I’m 100% sure of my knee.
I got a neighbor that erks me! They know their magazine company tosses them in my yard to puts them in my decorative hanging plant basket they leave it there until they “feel” like getting it. Have no clue legally what I can do. Do I toss it at their house? Toss it over their fence? Keep it? Toss it in their plants? Their mad hubby truck is in front of are yard where they want to park still. Took forever to get them to understand our fenced in yard is not their friends trash bin! Our driveway is not to park in while they mow. They are trashy neighbors yes party hard even during the virus.

Chicken with Coconut and Peanut Sauce
1 can coconut milk
2/3 cup peanut butter
2 TBS soy sauce
2 TBS garlic powder
2 TBS rice vinegar
2 TBS minced candied ginger
1 tsp cayenne pepper
*****************************************
1 bag Costco (Kirkland) boneless chicken thighs cut into 1 inch cubes
*******************************************
2 TBS corn starch
2 TBS water
******************************************
2 TBS lime juice
***********************************
Jasmine rice as an accompaniment
*******************************************
• Spread chicken in bottom of slow cooker.
• Mix the top group of ingredients in a bowl until sort of smooth and pour over chicken.
• Cook on low at least four hours and no more than seven.
• 20 minutes before you are ready to serve, mix corn starch and water and mix into chicken along with the lime juice.
• Cook for 20 minutes.
• Serve with jasmine rice.
**********************************************
I don't know about the calories in a serving but with modest portion control, you have a meal with a good source of protein. We love it. I freeze it in pint jars--each jar is two servings and we have it with a single serving of rice.

The fact that businesses are open, doesn't mean that it is wise for me to go. I have taken shelter at home seriously which means that I go out only for essentials and as infrequently as possible. It is amazing how many things I can do without. Planning carefully means that I don't suddenly remember something I should have gotten and feel like I have to go out again.
Tonya That's an amazing photo array that you made of your father.
Pip, sorry to hear of your injuries.
My walking friend went to Costco yesterday to shop for her neighbor who had a terrible anxiety attack the last time he went, so she bought a case of dog food for me (they allow only one to a customer so I couldn't stock up for myself last week). Now I won't have to go back to Costco again until early June.

Live long and prosper. Wash your hands!
Ciao! Wash your hands!
Don't forget the meeting tomorrow. Wash your hands!
And my father added ...
"Welcome home! Go wash your hands!"
Me again ...
Soon we'll just drop the greeting part in front and simply go with "Wash your hands." with different inflections to indicate coming, going, and level of acquaintance.
"WASH your hands!"
"Wash YOUR hands!"

Hi all!
Barbara - so sorry about your teacher. That is QUICK!
Karen, Tonya, loved reading about your dads.
Well, today I was on hold on the phone for A LONG TIME! Grrr! I've sorted it now, but it's not what I needed. I kept thinking of Kim and her patience. My ordeal wasn't as bad as hers.
Some if you may remember the Saga refund. The excursions money was refunded to my credit card and I rang the credit card people to get that credit transferred back to my bank account on the 23rd April. It hasn't appeared. So today was a long process of going online, ringing this, ringing that , going crazy. Eventually I found out that the transfer had never happened because they didn't have enough digits for my bank account, despite having asked me to confirm it. It had showed up on my paper statement though. Grrrrrr!
Hopefully I will get the money in 5 days time.
Then a savings account with Saga is about to mature and they have changed providers, so I have to close it and open another one. That involved some calls, but now I've got the request to close it in the post. Can't open a new one yet. OMG how low the interest rates are, even on Fixed Rate.
So a very annoying morning, but I'm done now. Still got to do my rowing.
Did a great birthday card for Max, which we've printed out and made up for him.
Tandoori chicken tonight.
Love Heather UK xxxxxxxx

Barbie: Your comments about your DH’s health situation seem somewhat similar to my DH’s. My husband does not have heart disease, but he does have a number of autoimmune issues, including insulin dependent diabetes, arthritis and MS. When weather is good we walk our old dog in the neighborhood. The dog & I walk while DH rides his mobility scooter. Getting outside on a nice day is a pleasure for us all. Prior to Covid 19, DH loved to go grocery shopping. Now I am the shopper. If this is the “new normal,’ I will be delighted when we are all able to return to the "old normal." :ohwell:
Kim & Lanette: Oregon has had an ongoing war against scotch broom for many years. It is an invasive monster. There has been some progress in eradicating the plant and I’m happy to live without the allergies it causes. There is a scotch broom article at extension.oregonstate.edu :flowerforyou: California Poppies are welcome here from my pov.
Machka: Beautiful views!!! I love the extrovert vs introvert picture and also the fencing equipment—masks, gloves, and stabbing swords.
Pip: I am sorry you had a fall while walking to work. I hope your tooth tightens back up asap.
We have a pretty day outside and I hope to go for a walk in the neighborhood with DH and our dog. If he’s up to it, DH will be riding his mobility scooter.

@Machka thanks for the nice wishes, OMG for the bus.what a pain. busses in non urbain places can be really challenging i find. i used to work all over the place in distant suburbs and my time in public transport was crazy. now i can have 2h some days if i work in 2 places and 1h30 max in 1 place, by scooter. public transport would be longer.2

i still feel exhausted. it seems like it's physical more than emotional, cause i've had some good news, nice conversations, etc. i feel a bit worn out all day. and am not up for my longish walks these days. and there was definitely a dip a few days ago. i finally made an appointment for a CT scan for wednesday. i'm apprehensive about the radiation for a CT scan. i think my GP recommended it if the fatigue continued and we didn't find any other source. (i have a prescription given in jan). i was putting it off. i hope it'll be useful. i was supposed to have specialist blood work up in march but that's pushed forward to june due to confinement starting march 17 here. it was too much of an emergency context then to maintain regular appointments.

Pip, ouch! I hope you heal quickly, do take care....
Barbie, I have also taken the self isolation hung seriously. I am still going to work 3 days a week, we have strict protocols in place there, and am keeping my grocery shopping to a minimum. How wonderful that your walking friend picked up another case of dog food for you! That's a good and true friend!
Machka, love the introvert/extrovert comic! Unfortunate that the insurance folks are still being a pain, but that's their job, I guess..... Good that you were able to get the bus driver spoken to. What he did was just wrong! I've read in our local paper a few times about folks being passed by the bus, or kicked off the bus in not great spots (when they weren't really doing enough to warrant it), fortunately nothing tragic happened, but there was definitely the chance created for a bad outcome. Drivers were severely reprimanded in those cases, and rightly so.
I know there was something else I wanted to comment on, but it's gone now. Hope everyone has a great day!
