Hi, I used to frequent here last year, but for all sorts of reasons haven’t checked in for some time.

Lots happened here. In February we took a road trip from AZ to Tampa, FL to stay with my husband’s son and daughter in law for what was supposed to be 6 weeks when she had their first child. We were there from mid February, Kolton was born on February 28 (his dad’s birthday) by c-section, came home the following Monday, and on Wednesday I started getting sick. By Thursday, it became apparent that I couldn’t stay with them, so we moved to a hotel, hoping that I’d get over whatever I had quickly, which usually has been the case in the past. However, that was not to be, and by the next Tuesday it became apparent that we couldn’t stay. By this time, Covid had hit Florida, so we figured we needed to get while the getting was good and beeline home. We got to Louisiana and I was much worse, so I went into an Urgent Care. They said that I didn’t qualify for the limited tests as I never had a fever and didn’t really have any other symptoms, so they diagnosed bronchitis, gave me antibiotics, steroids and a nasal spray and told us to just head home. They implied that if they thought it was Covid, they would have had to send me to New Orleans to the hospital and I got the impression that that’s the last thing the doctor wanted to do. So did I have it or not? Unless I get the antibody test, we’ll never know. My husband came down with the same thing a few days after we got home, but my daughter never did. She is an essential employee and works with the public, so if we’ve been exposed, we’ve been exposed.

Anyhow, that little episode set my goals back by about 9 pounds! I finally kicked the bug at the end of March and have been doing what I could to get back on track. Eating hasn’t been easy - I’m a stress eater and yea, you could say there’s a bit of stress here! But I’ve been walking 3-4 miles a day most days, and we started riding again. Last week we got back up to 30 miles, and hope to get in 40 tomorrow. However, the heat in Tucson is here early - it’s been over 100 for the past three days - so if we do want to get that many miles in we will need to be on the road no later than 7 am.

Past few days I have managed to get my heart rate back up in the cardio area; my husband has bursitis in his hips and when I walk with him, we go much slower. Riding doesn’t bother it like walking does, so here’s to a good ride! I miss the gym though, and I’m cautiously optimistic that they will be able to open up by the middle of the month. At least I hope so!

AzTeri- welcome back been crazy all over it seems. I’m in a hot zone for my state so hunting for meat is the same as living in Alaska wilds with a bow y arrow searching for a something edible in the snow storms lol. I been able to maintain but not lose its all the less veggies more shelf life items. Even when we get veggies it’s a small amount of fresh ones with heavy canned amounts

What is amazing is the fat around the middle is quite greasy, the organs aren't clearly defined in the body. If I ever need surgery, I want my innards pretty definable. Not a mishmash like this poor yet very brave obese woman's. 💖Rebecca

Rita: My eyes have been a little irritated and I’ve been using Systane eye drops. They help my eyes feel moisturized rather than dry. I find them at a local grocery store in an aisle with the vitamins, pain relievers, salves and such. I think they’re available in many stores along with other brands. They’re very helpful for my aching eyes. You’ll probably want to read the labels to be sure they’re okay for you. .


I went to a plant nursery this morning and bought a new fuchsia to hang beside our deck steps. This one has purple and red blossoms. We turned on our automatic drip watering system as soon as we hooked the fuchsia onto a plant hook. One of last year’s fuchsias survived winter and it is now hanging next to the kitchen window. :flowerforyou:

Haahaa mine too! This poor lady's heart was like a lump bag, no muscle. I want my heart like those dudes on the California beach lifting weights showing off. My heart can have an inflated ego, I don't mind.👍

My meal today. Started with avocado toast with tomatoes, olives and blue cheese crumbles. Main meal was chicken soup with roasted chicken, wild rice, white northern beans, and a coup!e pieces of leftover scalloped potatoes! Then for dessert I had yogurt and grapefruit.💖

I got my stimulus check today, I was very glad as when I had checked online it had said I would not get it until June. I will not be using it, but putting it into a savings account to help for something in the future, as right now I am just making enough to pay bills if I keep food at $35 per month... and while I have hit that number some months it's a hard number to stay too. Thank goodness for my garden and the chicken eggs from camp.

Although I did get a couple of embroidery jobs this week. And our county has changed to allow landscapers and gardeners to go back to work, so might open up a few opportunities. (At Camp I am classified an agricultural worker).

Did Patrick Godeaux Metabolic Training DVD. This one is a keeper. The plan for tomorrow is to do an Advanced Pilates DVD.

Barbara – oh, Lexi is much better now. She still has a very pathetic meow and will always have it. It did take her a few years before she could make any sound at all. She does a lot of sleeping but sometimes runs around the house (just not a lot). She can still jump up on things. So she’s happy. Fortunately, her ear hasn’t hurt her any (she had a polyp in her ear and we had to take her for major surgery since it was so far into the ear that our vet couldn’t get it out. They had to go in from her neck.)

I’m thinking that I’ll make a (chocolate because Vince likes chocolate) cake and when we skype with Denise we can celebrate PJ’s birthday virtually. That is…IF she remembers that she said she was going to. Well, if she doesn’t, I’ll take a picture of it and send that to her. She didn't remember that she asked me to stay for 2 weeks after PJ was born.

Our county has only something like 5 people in the hospital with CV. Pete was saying that in DE it’s mandatory to wear a mask. I guess I’d better make some. Don’t ask me to explain it…but for some reason I really don’t want to. Although I know that we should. Buying them…they’re so expensive. Maybe the reason I have this “thing” about not wanting to make a mask is that deep inside I wish life would go back to the way it was pre-CV and making a mask confirms that we’ll never go back . Update: a neighbor of mine will make it for a donation to the soup kitchen

We just heard about the new NASCAR schedule. Run the race with no fans. The drivers probably won’t like this, but at least they’ll be driving. I just know that people are going to go to the race and tailgate, just not go in. It seems all the races are to be within one day’s drive of Charlotte (the hub for NASCAR) so that means races at Darlington and Charlotte. Maybe when VA opens up they can use the tracks there. They’ll probably also do Atlanta since GA is in the process of opening up (I know this from Carol…lol) Bristol, too

One of the good things to come out of losing this bridge is that I find that I’m avoiding chewing on the left side of my mouth and am eating less.

There is no way Vince would drink powdered milk or evaporated milk. No way. I used to make bread and one of the ingredients was powdered milk so I reconstituted a little and gave it to Vince. I’m the only person who likes soy or almond milk. I need to buy it in the small cartons, tho, because by the time I can finish a larger one, it starts to go bad. I just am not crazy about rice milk, but I’d drink it if there was nothing else.

Ginny OH – thanks so much for reminding me that masks are used for woodworking. How is this relevant, you ask? Well, Vince used to wear a mask when he cut the grass in PA for his allergies. Knowing him he doesn’t like to throw anything out many times. I wonder if he has any of those left? Update: he had about 3 in the detached garage

Period pains – I’ve always been lucky. I have actually only used Aleve once in all the years I had “the period”

KJ – there have been times when I’ve had soup for breakfast, especially if I wanted to use it up.

M – hope everything is well and you are just busy (more busy if that’s even possible)

WalMart delivered the cat litter yesterday. Their prices are competitive with Target, except when Target has it on sale. I suspect they won’t have it on sale for a while, tho. It seems to me that stores are raising prices a bit and there are much fewer coupons. Those cat litter containers are HEAVY. The UPS man put them in the garage for me. And…if I bought over a certain amount, I get free delivery. Never thought of it, but I wonder if they can combine that with food so I can get free shipping??? I don’t think UPS delivers food, but I wonder……..

Need to call today to set up my appt for Prolia. Hope they’re giving them. Update: they need to hear back from Medicare before they can schedule it.

Had the bridge put back in. It’s actually cracked. But he just jury-rigged it and he’ll put another one in when I go (hopefully) in July for my routine cleaning. Then went to Food Lion to get Vince his soda. I’m a bit disappointed in Food Lion. They advertised Dawn dish detergent and Crest toothpaste at a really good price but the shelves were totally empty and they aren’t giving out rain checks for anything right now. Wonder why they aren’t giving out rainchecks? FL used to be so good about that. Makes me wonder if they advertise a good price but don’t have much in stock just so that you’ll go to their store.

Thank you, Karen. I had to chuckle at "Loverly". I used to use that a lot and had forgotten how wonderful a description it can be. From now on beautiful Lydia will be Lydia Lucille Loverly. Her big brother Matthew is a bit in awe and a bit jealous, he's 18 months now. I sent him a book a few months about Big Brothers are the Best, let's hope he recalls some of it. Lol

(((Michele))): I do not believe that “we’ll never go back” to good health and happy lives. I think it will take us all some time to recover, heal and create a new normal that we can live with and be happy. I haven’t a guess on how long it will take, but I’m planning to be as healthy and happy as possible. :flowerforyou:

JanetR: We have grandchildren who are far away. I wish they were closer or that I had access to a Tardis that would deliver me to their doors whenever I want. I’ve noticed the Dr. Who Tardis doesn’t often follow the wishes of the captain & crew, so I want an improved version.

Today we went to a plant nursery and bought a new fuchsia basket to hang beside the steps down from our deck to the lawn. I love the hanging baskets and our tradition of having a new fuchsia each spring.

Michele: IMHO If you want life to go back to ‘normal’ then take proactive action and make those masks. A vaccine isn’t likely to be discovered and trialled any time soon, and no one can predict how this is going to pan out. A cloth mask with extra filter material is not full proof, but it’s still a good option.
Also check the expiry date on the old masks. Michael discovered that the few he has in the garage are out of date.
Like Katla I believe that we will get through this eventually, and am doing all I can to improve my chances of surviving.

Although Northern Ireland is part of the UK, we are not attached to the mainland, so like many of our islands, our cases of CV are relatively low, with a much smaller %age death rate than the rest of the UK. However, it will only remain that way if people are sensible. Despite the inconvenience, and being separated from my family, I have no inclination to rush out of lockdown.

Hello everyone.

Oh, another not so much sleep night. I will say 2:30 in the morning is just a little too early for me, but I will move forward with my day. The good thing is I get to catch up with the news, plan/pay bills, fill up lots of shopping carts and then delete them, and a host of other quiet things.

The call for work was actually our quarterly “Town Hall” where the previous quarter’s achievements are reviewed and discussed. We blew it out of the ballpark (25% growth). It is going to be a tough quarter to follow up. I will say it was one of the better quarterly meetings – we were all dialed in and due to shelter in place and the great news they kept the call light and every single speaker could not say enough about each department and how well we have adapted to the situation. I will say since I am not so young I typically am not the rah, rah, sort, but the call was very touching and heartfelt. All of the speakers were on video and it was good to see the familiar faces and actually see there was no BS in the messaging. Our divisional president started the call by first thanking us and then asking for everyone to call their families in to the room and bring their pots and pans. He then thanked all of the families for supporting each of the employees and the sacrifices they have made adapting to our current normal. We were then taken off of mute and the noise flew. I am sure it allowed many, including the children, to blow off some steam. Again, very nice call.

Karen – Thank you for checking in on/for Machka. Good to hear she is catching up with her other interests.

AZTeri – Sounds like you and DH are covid survivors. TG it seems you had the proper medical care and advice. Good to hear you are back and getting back to normal. Welcome back.

Pip – LOL – Puppy looks like he wants to be a cat! What a character.

Michelle – I really do not understand why you cannot call Denise if she “forgets”. Glad to hear kitty is doing well. Most of the country is wearing masks. Almost all Floridians must wear masks in public and we are all doing it to protect others. We are never going back to pre-covid so it is probably time to get on with it. With so many plants shut down and transportation issues no one knows exactly when there will be inventory available. So many of the savings things we typically do/use will not be “normal” for quite some time. I have been noticing during some of my outings people are now clearing the shelves of any sale or BOGO item. Not sure if this is due to the news overplaying “shortages” or not, but now people are realizing they cannot use up all of that TP unless they are eating (ha!).

Katla – We can get fuchsia here, but they typically do not do too well for too long. Miss them! Please post a pic if you can.

Rebecca – Avocado toast is one of my favorite meals. I keep a few in the refrigerator (they last longer) and when I want one I take it out a day or two ahead of time. Which I will be doing today – it will be perfect for Monday’s breakfast!

Karen – Josephine is a real fighter – oh, that smile. I am so happy she is home where she belongs. Love the “No Children Will Die” story.

Lanette – Only 11 out of 200…..hm, 5.5%. It’s interesting how these corporations can put a “positive spin on things. Glad they are “testing” but seems like they should be doing so much more for the employees. Hopefully they are doing everything the health department requires and then some.

Yeast, flour, general supplies, etc. – I spent many of my working years in production/inventory control. Anyone familiar will know most manufacturers and stores use an ABC method.
This has gotten quite wordy so putting in a spoiler. If you’re interested take a gander.

“A” being high turnover, high usage and “C” being slow turnover, slow usage. Grocery stores use this method too. So, yeast is a slow mover because let’s face it how many people pre-covid actually purchased it? Based upon our small group of approximately 120 regulars there are 3 or 4. So covid hits and yeast users are like whoa I better get some yeast and there are those like me who say – wow, I am going to be shut down for a while maybe I should try baking some bread as it has always been something I wanted to try.

Covid hits and many are hoarding/purchasing essentials and there is a higher demand on grocery items because all of those restaurant people now have to cook at home (grocery store sales are up 36%!!). As a result manufacturers and grocery stores must truly fall to the ABC method. There are only so many trains and trucks to carry this stuff around the country. Even though yeast takes a very small amount of room within a truck it is still a C item and with high demands on the A and Bs something has got to take the back seat.

Additionally, the manufacturers have to gear up. They have been used to the C item being a slower mover but now demand is up so they have to decide, hm, do we produce the A and B items (more profit and more demand) or do we tie up production and delivery with the C items?

Long and short, there will be shortages of many things. There are many more outside forces effecting supply and demand. I could take one item, research it, and probably put together a dissertation in a week or so. I am sure it would be boring as hell to most of you. And, I have probably bored the hell out of most of you with this short but long overview………
