SuziQ - I would love a portable air conditioner to have on the top floor out of DH'S way. He hates ac. I looked them up on Amazon and, at the moment, it would be a big expense for me. My fan is pretty good for the very occasional too hot nights.
Spending money on anything for the house is a moot point for us. It has caused arguments in the past, so I am very wary of suggesting anything.
We have decided that we would like to have the living room decorated, but we haven't discussed how to apportion the cost between us. I am avoiding the issue.
We will probably end up doing nothing.

Pip, I’ll miss the idea that you live “nearby”, like the other Puget Sound gals. I sort of can envision the general areas and feel like we’re homies. I know Fresno well enough to stay away in the height of summer. I lived in Salinas and made trips to there and Bakersfield fairly often. Salinas would be one of my Yes areas in California if I needed to move there for some reason.
Machka, i sort of channel your exhaustion. To be invested in a project that one knows will last years takes a different sort of courage than having to worry every minute about a loved one with challenges. I suspect it being well into winter isn’t helping much. I know you get as much exposure to light as you can in your “walks with a purpose”, as I think of your chosen lifestyle. If you chose to drive to work how long would your commute time be on a given day?
Lisa in AR! one of the steps on my journey to be “more normal”, as I thought of it back then, was to have a “bilateral reduction mammoplasty”! (I sort of love how that rolls off the tongue!) I was hugely endowed but had just gotten down to a “normal” weight of 145#. One of several times I got there, gained it all back - plus. I chose a lovely normal C-cup size and it turned out I felt “normal” indeed. No more having the boobs precede me into a room full of people, or having to buy a larger size top than the rest of me needed just to accommodate “them “. I felt lithe and lovely and had just turned forty. It was a terrific feeling. Now that I’m sitting at 3” shorter and a good 10# less than I weighed then and 37 years older, I’m still pleased, even though they’re just little shriveled bags with an orange sized lump at the end.
Karen, im reminded of how many women I’ve known who’ve suffered that unthinkable loss. I, the atheist, am praying heartfeltly to whatever that one of my best friend’s granddaughters begin to turn the corner. She fell into the pool and was unnoticed for perhaps 3-5 minutes. That was a month ago. She’s still fighting. There has been surgery to install a feeding tube and a tracheotomy(?) to be able to remove the ventilator and get her breathing on her own more. It’s horrifying. My daughters are all in their 39-48 years and the thought is still unbearable. I find myself tearing up just at the thought of your lost child. Many hugs to you for your courage to go on.
Sara628588, welcome! And welcome to any other newbies I’ve failed to note recently. I’m glad you’ve found us.
Margaret, your little pup is such a beauty. I’ll bet she’s a great cuddler.
Dlfk20200, is there a more personal way you’d like to be addressed? I’m sorry if I missed a name post.
Nicolas, my youngest grandchild, turned 8 yesterday, but I was working so he gets his telescope and books today. We MAY try our first visit to a restaurant with social distancing in place. I’m glad to see the end of tax season coming, but I’m definitely overwhelmed right now.

Heather grew up in St. Louis with no AC. We would go swim at night to help keep us cool. Now I need AC especially for sleeping for my health.0

Did Amy Dixon and Paul Katemi’s Double Down DVD. The plan for tomorrow is to do a body pump workout (hopefully, on uTube)
Katla – can you bring Arrow some apples or carrots? I’m so happy for you that you’re going to get back on him. I’m sure he’s missed you as much as you’ve missed him.
I have one card for entering the one gym attached to my regular gym bag. But I didn’t have one for my laptop and they couldn’t make me another one. Sooooo…what I did was copied the original card. Then I tried it to see if the scanner would register it and it did! So we’re ordering this retractable thing that you use for employee badges. I’m going to put that on my laptop bag. I don’t use my laptop all that much, but it’ll be handy to have my ID card right there.
Made more meringues. The soup kitchen got a big donation of eggs and before they went bad they gave me 5 dozen. You should see how many gallons of milk they had to throw out because they went beyond the expiration date! It used to be that they gave the milk to little kids. But not any more! Not sure why they don’t just give people the gallons of milk
Barbara – never heard of a comfy cone. I have to look it up. Do they have a problem eating? Does it maybe collapse so they can get to their dish?
SuziQ – how generous of your boss! And what a surprise! Did you maybe send him a note telling him what you bought and how it will be a benefit to your job? I’m thinking that the soup kitchen will do a meal-to-go fundraiser. They also usually around the holidays do something where they sell fudge. I’m thinking that this can also be something that can be picked up. Do you know that we moved our generator here from PA 12 years ago (almost 13) and we’ve NEVER (fortunately) had to use it. One time we thought we might, but it wound up that we didn’t. I, too, can’t wait for my hair to grow out to its color. Just saw this on facebook and thought of you: it said “First corona season, then riot season, now hurricane season. Do I need a mask, a glock or a generator?”
M – thinking of you today and wishing you and your hubby all the best
KJ – I forgot about that link, too. Now I bookmarked it so that I’ll remember it.
Went in the pool – temp is 89. Then made some more meringues. I really like them, at least that’s my newest kick. They’re light and low in calories

Hi Gals,
Katla - I live in an area with a home for disabled adults and from a power point of view it is great… before that home was converted we would have outages every few months of 6+- hours; now the outages are infrequent and often short. Although PG&E (our electric and natural gas company) does announced power shut downs to protect us from fire caused by wires arcing in wind, and because they are announced they can last as long as the company wants…. Quite annoying. And because they are announced all the “protected or first back” areas are no longer considered a priority
This is coming up to be a hot week here, high 90’s to low 100 – I’ll garden early, hide mid-day and garden in my own yard in the evening.
Allie – hope you are feeling full of energy tomorrow.

I have to share a cute story about my Granddaughter. She is 4.
Her name is Michaela but everyone but me calls Micki.
I said something to her today and used her name. She said “Grammie, my name is Micki not ‘ichaela (she can’t quite get it all). I told her that I’m Sorry, but I will probably only ever call her Michaela. She says, “ok you can call me ‘ichaela, it’s my nickname for Micki.
This is her and her brother Jonah on their camping trip last week.

Heather: In our part of Oregon, air-conditioners get plenty of use in the summer, and sometimes well into fall.
Sue: Arrow looks like your horse’s twin, but he has a star rather than a blaze. Sorrel horses are gorgeous.
Michele: I was taking Arrow alfalfa pellets but his owner asked me to quit. Now I don’t give him any treats other than attention. He likes being brushed, and to have his hooves cleaned. He seems happy to see me when I get him out of his paddock.
Kim: We are next to the Columbia River and can usually count on pleasant breezes in hot weather. When it is too hot, we stay inside with our air conditioner to keep us cool. Our home faces the sunrise, and afternoon heat is usually behind foothills. :flowerforyou:
Tracey: Your grandchildren are adorable.
I finally accomplished a goal I’ve been working toward since I was eleven. I cantered on Arrow. Back at age 11, my mom saw me go right over a horse’s head while trying to learn to canter. Mom never let me go back to the class and I’ve had this hanging over me for 59 years. An important goal in my life has been met and done today. Eleven year-old Kathy has finally succeeded. Never quit when something is important to you.

Katla - CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Katla – wonder why Arrow’s owner asked you to stop bringing alfalfa pellets. Does she feel that he’s getting overweight? Congrats on cantering. I know how great it felt when I cantered. Honestly, I was so afraid of a horse that when I first rode a horse as an adult, even tho the horse’s leg was bandaged so he couldn’t go fast at all, the instructor still had to remind me to breathe!
Going to sleep with Shadow tonight.

I have been on and off MFP for years but have never joined a group. I go by chrtlade on here but am Ruth from Utah, age 71. That's seem so old when I write it down but I don't feel that old, most of the time. Am a retired elementary teacher. Last September I started to lose weight and have lost 25 pounds so far. Ten more pounds to go. One thing I really miss are the group exercise programs at our senior center. So I need to motivate myself to do more exercising by myself. Like so many others, I don't care for this "new normal" but have adjusted. chrtlade-Ruth in UT3

Welcome Ruth- Great job on the weight loss- I have lost the same amount(this time) and have 10-15 to loose too.
I have only been on here a few weeks- very welcoming bunch of ladies0 -
Katla - Yay you! That is such a wonderful feeling.
Pip - Glad you got the house sold. Enjoy Fresno. Does Kirby have family near there too?
Matchka - Hope things are going well. Sending healing angels.
Doing well here. I am trying to help a couple of other choir members get involved in the virtual choir. Should be fun.

Thank you everyone. ☺
Surgery was supposed to be about noon on Friday 10th but was delayed to 4:30 pm. That's 11:30 pm on Thursday 9th Vancouver BC time.
So I'm nearly 3 days post surgery.
I can't use computer because I can't wear glasses. So I 'm on my phone. I'm really slow typing here so I'll only mention highlights.
Surgery apparently went well. Septoplasty and turbinate reduction.
Rough re-entry with very high blood pressure and hot/sweating so that I was soaked. Plus nausea etc. And panic attacks because I couldn't breathe which made my BP shoot up. Heard someone at my head say 198/105 at one point. Very sore throat.
Back in room at 8 pm. Nurse rang husband who had gone home. He was very worried because we had expected I'd be back to the room by 6:30 or 7 pm.
Bad night. Couldn't get comfy. Couldn't breathe. Very sore throat. Nauseated. Couldn't sleep. Nurse gave me one Endone which seemed to help a bit. Then 2 Endones at about 4 am and I finally fell asleep till about 7am ... and woke up nauseated and with a rash the whole length of my right arm. Add Endone to list of allergic to meds.
Nurse gave me something for nausea and then pulled out the nasal packs. 2 small and 2 large. Large ones like super tampons. Huge! Didn't know my nasal passages could hold that much! Such a relief to get them out!
Still can't breathe well. Mainly just through mouth but panicky feeling is gone.
Came home and I've been sleeping a lot.
Have hardly eaten since 9 pm Thursday my time. Almost 4 days. Just not hungry. But I'm trying to drink lots of water, apple juice etc.
Steamer in bedroom is good.
Lots to do ... rinsing, antibiotics etc.
Wish I could give my nose a good blow!

Oooh Machka ! Rough ride! At least it's behind you now. Now you can rest up and get better. CONGRATULATIONS!
Katla - That is a wonderful achievement! Breaking through our fears is so good. My mother never let me roller skate because she feared I would fall over and bash my head. I don't think I'm going to learn now, but it is a regret.
I'm going to go for my run after breakfast today. I don't like doing it that way round as it messes with my day, but I can't fit everything in if I don't do it that way today. We have masses of things coming from Amazon, so someone has to stay in and I need bread and milk. Running doesn't quite burn enough calories, but I will do some more on the machines after lunch. I still haven't been able to shift any weight despite my massive calorie burn every day. Answer? Eat less. That option is not appealing. I am still a bit less than I started lockdown, but not by much now.
Love to all from sunny Hove, Heather UK xxxxxxxx3 -

Reward: inventory seeds, plan fall cool season garden, order replenishments.
12 when things go wrong: have compassion for yourself: That’s what I’ve needed for the past 10 or so days, during which it felt like everything I touched turned to fresh fertilizer. Flat tire, spilled wine into laptop, bumping the oven knob then turning it the wrong way, losing temper with Joe, forgot to type hymns, cursing the wind, envying my dance buddies the results of their hard work and lifestyle choices. Basta. Fresh start today to the week and rest of my days, including eliminating carry over cleanings for any room I touch today.
SuziQ Your heartwarming big surprise story was just the uplift I needed. Thanks!
Welome @lilySovaje, @chrtlade Ruth from UT!
Barbie it would be hard for me to swap my Pyrex for plastic.
Margaret Papa and Mama took me to St. Louis every other summer to visit relatives. No a/c, just fan in the kitchen window, front and back doors open and lots of Budweiser. One night it was so hot I took my pillow into the bathtub to sleep on the cool procelailn. Heat+humidity= Boise got up to 111 a couple of times during our 20 years there, but with a relative humidity less than 15% it was nowhere near as miserable as St. Louis at 98F and 98%.
Michele Shadow is adept at eating despite the cone of shame. She centers it around her food dish and voila the kibble disappears. The comfy cone is softer, more pliable for easier resting/sleeping. Neither collapses. Hope it gets here soon!

Soooooo glad I went for my run this morning. Heaven! Here are the paddleboarders at 8.35 am.
Runners, walkers, swimmers, life guards practising. Hovarians doing their thing.
I was listening, as usual, to Soul Music on BBC Sounds. 'Make Me The Shadow Of Thy Peace' and 'Don't Leave Me This Way'. Wonderful!
As I was crossing the main road to get to the promenade I passed an amazing sight. I just had to stop and look. A young, black man was running along the sidewalk, quite fast, pushing a baby in a buggy. That was wonderful enough, but I see parents doing that quite often around here, but the great thing was that, just in front of him, a young boy, about three years old, was peddling along on his two wheeler. It really made me grin! When you think of all the excuses people make as to why they can't exercise! He could see me looking and grinning, and he laughed back, so I shouted out, "That's great! Well done!"
It really made my day!
Picked up two loaves of artisan bread on the way home.

I was supposed to go for a hearing check up today to be fitted with hearing aids.......... couldnt make myself go. What a numpte. The thought of spending money I cant afford to get things I'm sad to need just didnt seem to be my day. Trying not to comfort eat to assuage my guilt........
And a happy hello to everyone other than that

Machka - glad you're through and home, and thank you for letting us know.
@Sara628588 - sounds very near depression, are you okay?
Heather - looks like a lovely morning.
Welcome @lilySovaje, @chrtlade Ruth from Utah.
Tracey - the grands look like such fun!
Barbara - I'm sorry it was a rough week last week... hope this week is much, much better. Envy is only bad when you allow it to make you feel inadequate or that things are unfair. Both envy and regret have always seemed the most useless emotions to me. You don't have to give them headspace.
Katla - Well done on riding Arrow at a canter!
Allie - hope today's a better day and tomorrow better still.
And a Levi sighting to brighten my day.
Later, y'all,
Love,
