I choose to be an adult quite often, but love being a bit of a brat from time to time 😈4

We're home! ... son was discharged and we're home. Swallow test indicated that everything is good. Diagnosis? "Choked on meat cut too big." The upgraded pureed diet to mechanical soft diet. He is exhausted but thrilled to be home.
Tracey ... I agree with you that Covid is really hurting those who need others to be their voice in the hospital. We were allowed, one at a time, to visit for only 4 hours ... 2-6:00 when every doctor is long since gone. In the past, I would have been there before his breakfast and left when he went to sleep. Yesterday he was almost narcoleptic because a respiratory therapist put his bipap mask on upside down!! Had I been allowed to stay with him until the end of the day, I would have put the mask on and he would have slept well. Just craziness.
Masks ... today I went to the hospital in a very well made thick face mask. I've been wearing homemade face masks every day I've been there. The hospital made me take it off and wear a paper one instead?? Others were allowed to wear their masks from home. I have no idea what that was about.
Michele ... the pureed diet I referenced was his hospital meal. The last time I pureed food was when my kids were babies. Tonight I did use a a mini oscar food processor to "mechanically" soften some cooked chicken. I have to figure out a grocery list for things that are easy and tasty for him. He loves to eat. By rights, with all of his health issues, he should be on a really healthy diet, but I had a doctor tell me that with all of his health issues ... he deserved to eat what he wanted ... diet be da**ed.
Heather ... children don't forget anything. My niece, who is 33 years old, can recall every visit she was allowed with me (they were limited due to family dysfunction) ... right down to the print on one of the tops I used to wear, the food I used to serve, and the decorations in my house. Boggles my mind. So happy that you had a wonderful visit with your family!
I'm done for today. I will be getting my son ready for bed early so I can do the same.

I layered zuchini, red onions, three meatballs and sauce, and cheese. It was so good with campenelli noodles. I then had a small bowl of cereal an hour later. I closed my window at 3:00 pm. I was able to write 4 letters so about 16 pages total. It helped that my pen pals asked a lot of questions.👍
I cooked up three cube steaks, for the guys. Husband organized fries and onion rings. I used bacon grease to fry them in, just a spoonful. At the end I finished cooking them in a tablespoon of butter. Made them creamy saucy with lots of spices!
I kind of wanted some toast, but I am standing firm and not.💖

Do you add pectin?
no, nothing added at all. I did add 2 T of honey to sweeten it just a tiny bit- nothing else. The nectarine jam I made from our nectarines was so sweet that it needed nothing at all- no sugar, no pectin, nothing- it was so good.

My big yarn order came today and I happily continuing to knit my blanket for Project Linus. I am fussy about brand, weight, and color of yarn so it pleases me to have found a place where I can order exactly what I want.
I have given some zucchini away but have eaten most of it myself.

Barbie: Congrats on your yarn order! I’d love to learn more about project Linus. 🌈0

My ex had a spinning wheel, so many of my projects were with handspun yarn. We used to buy fleece and dye it. I still have quite the yarn stash, mostly in amounts too small for a sweater. My parents keep the house too warm to wear wool so I hardly wear any anymore.

Debbie - I love your Christmas decorating. I like going all out too, but don’t have a lot of outdoor decorations.
Barbara - I would just be grateful that someone else did the dishes as well. I think this younger generation is better at having partnerships in housekeeping duties than we did.
Heather - we have been doing that alternative extra Christmas for 11 years now. We are this year as well by our daughter is hosting in her new house. Her husband has to work Christmas Day, but has invited his Mother to come here.
Okie - I had to laugh at your tree slab table. I sympathize. My husband has been going to make a headboard for us for 5 years now. I don’t think it will happen this year either.
Kylia - I would have declined that baby shower invitation too. I wouldn’t even imagine having one right now. Fall is peeking here too, it seems we’ve only had summer for two weeks because of all of the rain we’ve had this summer.
Machka - happy Anniversary to your parents.
Lanette - I mentioned to the Director of Care and Social Worker that I was concerned about her memory lapses. They have a better relationship with her than I do and it seems to me she thinks people without a Masters degree just don’t know anything. They each have one so she may take their concerns seriously. If she is sick I’m truly sorry for all of the nasty thoughts I’ve had. I don’t want to see anyone suffer.
Lisa and Machka - Love the adult meme and comments. I wish I was a kid again sometimes.
Heather - isn’t it nice how we can change and adapt throughout our lives.
Margaret - I agree that so much more needs to be done for mental health. I hope the next generation does much better than us.
Beth - I am so sorry you are going through all of this. I love the picture, I saved that one to share earlier today.
Rita - I would be running so far in the other direction!
Rebecca - I love your son’s LEGO you’ve shared. My Brother was big into It growing up and his son was as well. As I said my Grandson is more into the people. He builds buildings or whatever as needs for his people’s story to be told. I think he is going to be a director or something. From the time he started playing he has always played with little figures and tells a story. Now he tries to make little movies. He will be 9 in exactly one month, I will be 52, he was a birthday present for me.
Heather - I’m so happy you had a wonderful visit. We didn’t let our Grands hug or kiss us until about June. They are staying home though, no activities and if they go to a store they wear a mask. I talked to the RN’s at work and they agreed that mental health is as important as physical health and as long as they didn’t come around if they were unwell I would not be risking anything.
Yours lost tv privileges for sneaking biscuits. When ours were here last night Michaela (4)was telling us how Jonah is grounded and how that came to be, she ended up talking so much that it came out she had actually done the same thing and as this was news to their mother she ended up grounded herself. It was funny she had actually ratted on him and he didn’t tell on her, just took his grounding.
Pip - love the chair.
Michele - I used to have some of those towels and really miss them. I see them from time to time here at craft sales, but the towels are all “old ladyish” to me so I don’t grab them. I love the one you did.
Beth - so glad you have your son home. It will give you piece of mind. The cloth masks aren’t allowed here I medical facilities, I saw an article where they tested 14 different types and the paper surgical masks were the best. It makes no sense that they allowed some with cloth ones though.
Thankfully tomorrow is Friday and then I am off until next Thursday. I don’t know how much I’ll be able to keep up over the next few days as the Grands will be with us. On Saturday I am picking them up in the morning, we are going to spend the night with our youngest daughter and her husband. We have grand plans for a float on a lake, s’mores around the campfire and Uncle Buddy (Brodey) built a surprise tire swing today. We are keeping them until Tuesday while their parents go get a breather alone before school goes back in and stress starts all over.
I took next Wednesday to recuperate after having them for 3 days. 😂

Thanks!
And my favourite decade was my 30s. Fun, exciting, freeing, adventurous ...
My 40s weren't too bad either.
My 50s started well with a great first year.
There's been a bit of talk about motivation. What motivated us to lose weight?
For me, it was this blue jacket. We had purchased these cycling jackets at a decent price but it must have been an end of season half-off sale or something. When I had gained enough I couldn't wear that jacket, I thought I'd just buy another one in a larger size, only then the price was much higher.
I figured I could save up the money ... or lose weight. So I lost weight.
Machka in Oz4 -
Tracey : Enjoy your time off from work and the chance to spend time with your grands. Sounds like a rare treat.
Machka : You look wonderful on your bike. I love the blue jacket.
On motivation to lose weight—My decision to lose weight was caused by a horseback riding injury during a riding lesson several years ago. My teacher back then had me posting at a trot in the same direction for an hour long lesson. I went home in pain and ended up going to an orthopedic doctor. He said surgery was not an option & advised me to work on strengthening my leg. This was a permanent injury. Exercising and losing weight were my best options. He prescribed specific leg exercises and I did them daily. I also knew I needed to lose weight. I was more than forty pounds heavier then, maybe a bit more. Luckily, I stumbled into MFP just when I needed to change my eating habits and take off excess weight. I started taking yoga classes along with counting calories. Here I am, several years later. I'm lighter & stronger, with a permanently damaged left knee. I ride horses whenever I get the chance, and I don’t post at a trot. As soon as this Covid mess goes away, I'll be back in yoga classes, too.

Tracey - I just want to clarify, they didn't sneak the biscuits, they openly defied an order not to take any more, as they had already had one each. It was their father who told them not to take any more as they are Johnny's special coffee break biscuits! They would not have done it if their mum was there, nor, probably, if they were alone with us. I think they were enjoying defying their poor, tired, frazzled father! And everyone was tired and hot and going home for bath and bed. They had warnings and countdown from 5, but carried on. Edie put the biscuit back whenever heard she had lost her tv privileges, but her father told her she had to eat it now because she had touched it. So it was more a battle of wills and disobedience.
Hot, long summer! Three children for six weeks in a record heatwave!
Next week the au pair arrives from Spain, so they are quarantining with her for a while and will get her a test before they go out mixing again.
Phew! Normally we would be able to help out . ........
MY DDIL is on Woman's Hour this morning! (long running BBC radio programme) She was preparing yesterday, so didn't come over. I will listen.
