I decided I need to plan ahead where and when I'm going to run for the week, because taking it day by day is leading to some very short runs for me. So this week I have Monday through Thursday runs planned, and a tentative for Friday. I don't have a mileage goal for these runs, but I do have a plan for time and place. Bonus - the forecast looks fabulous for the week.
I have to plan ahead too. I'm definitely one of those people who is way more likely to stick with a plan that just relying on myself to generate a plan day by day. I put mine in my calendar as a morning appt, usually about 1 month at a time. Then I can move it if the weather or my work schedule changes and I need to adjust. But having it there makes me feel responsible to it.

That's why I use Hal, despite my love/hate relationship with him. Accountability, I guess.

Hey all. I'm going to start coming in more. I really miss you guys.
Calf has been good overall for the last couple of weeks. More tight and niggly than sore so fingers crossed.
I did a couple of very short jogs this week, 4x 30 step jogs while out for a walk a couple of days ago and had no pain. And no pain with a hop test.i see the physio in a couple of hrs, and suspect I'll start strength training, and hopefully maybe some short 1min runs soon...
I can't wait!!12 -

Wow, that is fantastic news!1 -
@kristinajeang Glad your ankle held up and I would count the time on the soccer field too.
Yeah! @Camaramandy648 !
Great restraint @hamsterwheel6 !
@RunsOnEspresso Cure design.
@Avidkeo We missed you too! Glad your calf is getting better!

@noblsheep sorry about all your work stress and hope your friend's baby is doing ok. You are a good friend.
@runsonespresso - that's so cute
@avidkeo good to see you back hanging out with us. Hope your calf continues to improve.
@skippygirlsmom - ha, that's a good story to come in to the finish from the wrong direction. I was talking to another woman who did the same trail race over the weekend but she did the marathon, and she got lost too and did 2 miles extra. Just what you want from marathon (which she did totally last minute without training for too by the way - she's run an ultra but hasn't run more than 6 miles for months. Crazy!)

I had a doctor's appointment this afternoon and then was supposed to be on a zoom meeting with an important vote, but I was running short of time to get my dog walk and run done before my strength training session. So I went home after the appointment and zoomed in from my phone while walking the dog. Not as entertaining as music or a podcast but it was a good multitask and nicer than being stuck in my office listening to people who can't help themselves from having their voice heard. I clicked leave meeting as soon as the votes were done and I timed it perfectly as I was just arriving at my driveway.
I put the dog back in the house and headed out to meet my friend for a run. First run of my week's plan done on schedule. It was a nice run and we had a lot to chat about. We did about 3.1 miles and she had to leave, so I drove over to the gym a few minutes away and finished up another 1.3 miles in the remaining time I had before strength training.

0922-8k, total-32.8k goal-80k
Finally got a good solid run this morning, at 5:30am notwithstanding. It was actually cold when I set out, first chattering teeth of the season. Commemorable day.
@quilteryoyo @Camaramandy648 @skippygirlsmom @hamsterwheel6 @katharmonic Thanks everybody for the support. Dunno what I'd do without this group.
Oh and @Camaramandy648 congrats on the negative! That's great news!
@Avidkeo welcome back, we missed you too.
Anyone here have experience with polyphasic sleep? I think I'm going to try it out - not getting much sleep at nights as it is, and napping throughout the day seems like a good way around it.7 -
Well back from the physio. Tentatively going to try first run in 2 weeks. I have to do a fairly intensive strength training programme between now and then, and all going well on 6th October I be able to do my first run!
To celebrate I went for a 6.5k walk along our foreshore. Its a beautiful spring day. So many baby birds. I tried to take a pic of them but was too slow. So you get me instead!

@Camaramandy648 great news! Enjoy running in public!skippygirlsmom wrote: »@polskagirl01 it’s awesome to hear the way different countries have races, the traditions and all. One of my dearest friends is from Poland and I love to hear her stories about running.
Re: pace groups. They can be helpful in certain situations.
1. I've sometimes started a race with a slower pace group to keep my initial pace under control, with a planned spot when I would leave them behind. This is good if you are trying to negative split (run the second half of your race faster than the first).
2. It can also be helpful if you want to run a certain time and your pacing strategy is the same as theirs. BUT you need to ask the pacer what their plan is. Many aim for even pace throughout, others plan to vary pace based on the terrain, and some even try to "bank" time by going faster at the beginning (I don't recommend this. At all.)
One big thing though. Do NOT put your race in their hands. Keep your pacing responsibility in your own head. Pacers are human, and they sometimes don't get it right. If they are going too fast, don't feel like you have to stay with them.
Today I did speedwork on the treadmill. It was supposed to be 4x1600 at goal HM pace; I cut it down to 3. With 400m recovery added in it came to 6k.
Yesterday I biked 36k to/from/around the reservoir to the south of our city. It was nice and peaceful. Traffic getting there was stressful though, so it's a tradeoff.
Latest drama regarding the Half Marathon Crown challenge, aka boring race signup stuff. One [previously postponed] race ended up canceling. I figured that was it; the challenge is impossible without 5 races. Then yesterday my coworker messaged and asked if I was doing another race [that had been canceled back in June]. Apparently they changed their minds and are doing it in November, and I had missed the announcement. Went to sign up immediately. There is a 100-runner limit. 1 spot left. Was my coworker also signing up right now? I don't care - I want that spot! Click to register. Server Error. NOOOOO! Their site is still not working. I messaged the organizers. Then coworker says "it's working, I just signed up and it still says 1 spot available, hurry!" I click the link, it works. I sign up and pay as fast as I can. Got my confirmation, but we're #122ish on the list. 21 people ahead of us haven't paid, which means we're actually ahead of them. Now registration is showing as closed. I think this means we got the last spots and are in. But there's still one other race that they haven't said anything about, and it's supposed to be in a few weeks. I have my doubts, but still plan to complete as much of the challenge as possible, and make my own crown if need be
September goal REVISED TO 100K

@polskagirl01 I hope you get your spot!
I read a study recently on pace, which found that in the case of novice runners doing a 5k, going out too fast results in faster finishing times. Now, that’s a very specific situation - novice runners apparently are often capable of running faster than they realize, and it’s a short race. Wouldn’t want to try it on a half marathon! I would also like to point out that in my own experience going out too fast has resulted in PRs, and also in unplanned walk breaks from being completely wiped. It’s a fine line.4 -
@Avidkeo Love the picture. You have such a great place for a nice Spring walk!
@polskagirl01 Glad you managed to get a spot in the race! That sounds stressful.

I always start out too fast (crowd, adrenaline) even though I tell myself to be conservative. It really is a fine line. I find if I am fighting to get around people that clearly lied on entry or snuck into a faster corral that I get fatigued. Probably because I'm going faster & having to weave around walkers.3 -

@noblsheep glad you had a good run, my teeth felt the same this morning it was 54F I know I know but for this Southern Belle it’s cold. Skip is almost 400 miles South of me and she said it’s was cold at the start of my run today….ready it was 75F ha ha
@Avidkeo we’ll take you any day of the week, great picture.
@polskagirl01 woohoo grab those last spots!!
Talking of going out fast, my 2nd 5K was a huge one here in town and Skip and I were running together, which really means going in the same car and her waiting at the finish. So she said says no I want to run with you, we get to the first mile and the girl yells out the time as we are going by it was around 10:something and I say outloud oh *kitten* that’s too fast and the exact same time Skip says OMG that’s so slow I gotta go and leaves me in the dust. The lady next to me burst out laughing.

@rheddmobile I'd argue that if you got a PR, you weren't going out too fast Now, how do we know what is too fast for our fitness on that particular day? We're back to agreement - it's definitely a fine line.2

Last week was vacation time. Loved every minute of it… except the last morning when I fell down about 6 steps Saturday morning. Oops! Was sore on Sunday and Monday. Got out and ran just over 4 miles this morning. I hope tomorrow morning goes as well. The weather was a crisp 52 degrees. AAaahhhhh!

@Camaramandy648 yay for the negative test!
Thanks @Teresa502 , @hamsterwheel6 and @quilteryoyo !
@Avidkeo that walk route looks amazing! Mine isn't bad (sometimes I think I take for granted the nice trees/nature/abandoned railroad tracks), but I absolutely love running and walking by water.
Didn't manage a run yesterday (furnace install went over lunch and the guys finished RIGHT After my lunch break ended), but got out today during lunch instead. At first ankle was a little achey, but I slowed the pace a bit and it felt fine and now I feel amazing! No pain/aches/soreness, will keep an eye on it and listen to my body though.

Hey, everyone!
I got the quote for the medals for @PastorVincent to be made. They are not expensive per item, about $10. For 25 it would be $251. What do you all think? Or do we want to see if @rheddmobile can look into the 3D printing? I know Kristi and her family and some friends may also want one, which is why I said 25. It seemed like a nice number to go with as a hypothetical.
Back at work today. So grateful for hours and money, and also so grateful for the scheduled Jangover ten mile run tonight to ease my mind of the day's stresses.
Here is a screenshot of the quote.
