I got the quote for the medals for @PastorVincent to be made. They are not expensive per item, about $10. For 25 it would be $251. What do you all think? Or do we want to see if @rheddmobile can look into the 3D printing? I know Kristi and her family and some friends may also want one, which is why I said 25. It seemed like a nice number to go with as a hypothetical.
Back at work today. So grateful for hours and money, and also so grateful for the scheduled Jangover ten mile run tonight to ease my mind of the day's stresses.
Here is a screenshot of the quote.
If we decide to buy these I'd purchase one.2 -
Earlier I committed to running a 10K for @PastorVincent, though I did not get the run done as soon as I had hoped. It was a glorious day, last Sunday, when I was able to complete this.11

I'm good with that!!!0 -
@Camaramandy648 What are the specifics for the type of medal? I wrote for a quote on the place that offered the acrylic medals and they want $3.49 apiece but they have a 50 count minimum so the total cost works out about the same. We have 25 participants in the MFP group plus any family members who participate later, btw.
I think we have enough people that 3D printing would be impractical.2 -
Hi all. I’m really behind so sorry if I forget to include any shout-outs. Have been reading and following along with you all.
@Camaramandy648 and @rheddmobile I’m happy to contribute if we are getting medals for Kristi and the family. Would love one too but I think shipping internationally will be an extra hassle and you guys have done so much already.
Sending healing thoughts to @hamsterwheel6 and @Avidkeo and anyone else sick or injured. Glad the test was negative @Camaramandy648. Thinking of @kgirlhart and @eleanorhawkins and their families.
Everyone else running races or just enjoying cooler temperatures, hope you’re all making the most of a new season! I went out for 10K this morning and it was an almighty struggle. Couldn’t work out why then got home to discover it was 90% humidity. Have also been plugging away ‘running’ with my class of 5-6 year olds. I wish I could film it to show you guys - seriously entertaining! X

@rheddmobile and everyone else- I had sent Kristi the quote as well and she said that she will get with her people and figure out the yay or nay, etc.
So it sounds like you are all in. I guess I just need a final headcount and then we need to determine how to pay for them.
In a couple of weeks, I can pay for the bulk and you can all venmo me?
What are your thoughts on that? I've never done anything like this before, but I think it can be made to be pretty seamless.1 -
"RunsOnEspresso wrote: »...Probably because I'm going faster & having to weave around walkers.
When I run the loop around Duke East Campus, which is relatively flat and straight with just four major turns, I often feel more fatigued than on my other runs--mostly from weaving around walkers, people who are too close and maskless, dog walkers with long retractable leashes, etc.
I have wondered if the physical fatigue is partly caused by the mental exercise I get from anticipating and then planning on how to weave around people, not to mention that the traffic around Duke University is pretty loud. How much of my mental space is taxed by that?
I do know that if I am running through the relatively bucolic and peaceful Duke Forest my runs do not seem as hard, even if I am going over "harder" hills and have more turns, etc.
Duke Forest is shut down Mon-Fri, starting tomorrow through 13 Dec, due to deer hunting season. At least I won't get shot by a hunter if I run around Duke East Campus. I hope, lol.

Can we see what the medal looks like, same with yours @rheddmobile I have no problem putting in more to cover Kristi and however many in her family ran. I don't think they should have to pay for them themselves. I don't use Venmo because I don't trust those apps, if you don't have paypal I will set it up for just this and then delete it.2 -

We are currently getting quite a bit of rain from tropical storm beta. It was raining too hard this morning to get out at my usual time, but I was able to catch a break in the weather in the afternoon. I was scheduled to do speed work today, but with all the branches, pine cones, and wet sidewalks I didn't really want to chance it. So instead I did a Tempo run. It was super humid, but the extra wind from the tropical storm and the cloud cover help to keep it nice and I only encountered some misting rain. Timed it perfectly!4 -
Re: pace groups. I haven't had a lot of luck with them. I like to start out a little bit slower in the beginning and kind of work myself up to speed on a longer race. I think some of it is just nerves; there's always a part of me that wonders if I'm actually going to be able to finish the race even if I've done the distance before! Then as my confidence builds and I realize I'm not going to die I'm able to speed up. Also, while I pay attention to my pace, I largely run by feel. I still consider myself to be a newer runner, and I think I'm just now getting to the point where I'm learning how to properly manage my pace.

@skippygirlsmom That's funny about the 5K that you and Skippy "ran together." I would have been like the lady beside you and laughed out loud.
@WandaVaughn Glad you weren't injured any worse when you fell down the stairs. Sounds like you had a very relaxing vacation.
@Camaramandy648 That doesn't sound too bad. I'll go along with the crowd on this one. LOL

Run before yoga this morning. It was chilly at 39 degrees. I planned to get out earlier but slept terribly last night and lingered a little too long over my coffee trying to motivate myself. Ah well, at least a run was accomplished. 280 days of running today!

I agree - I'd like to see the medals we're talking about, before I commit to $10 + international shipping + whatever we're adding for family medals. This could start adding up, and while it would be nice, I didn't do this for a medal and will be ok if I don't get one.2 -
I’ll pass on the medal - as lovely an idea as it is and as awesome a design as it is - but with the exchange rate and International shipping, this will end up costing me quite a lot and I think Pastor Vincent would agree I’d be better to use this cash to enter another race!4

However we figure out how to do it, I'm in for my medal and will throw in an additional $20.00 to cover shipping and assorted expenses that go with shipping - for me and whomever else needs it. My thought is those who did all the work should not have any additional expenses over and above cost.5 -
6.4 miles this morning. Felt a little better today, although it was 100% humidity and misting the whole time. Never looked at my watch, just used it to record mileage. Almost felt like a human being after mile 4.

Another nice early morning run (5 am) with a 51F temperature. I ran with a friend who challenges me so I had the best pace that I’ve had all month.
@WandaVaughn – glad you didn’t seriously injure yourself falling down the steps!
@Camaramandy648 – thanks for coordinating the VM for @PastorVincent. I suggest that everyone who wants a medal pays you in advance. Even though most people have good intentions (certainly all of us runners!), they forget or life happens and I don’t want you stuck with the bill or extra medals.
You’ve got an awesome running streak going @katharmonic!

@Teresa502 couldn't do it without @rheddmobile for sure. I swear, I'm not naïve, but I really do trust you all. We can do whatever you are all comfortable with.
@Tramboman sounds good! i would love to be able to tell Kristi that she and hers will not need to worry about the price of the medals. I don't know how many people she has, so I don't want to make promises like that yet.
As for international shipping @polskagirl01 - I'll bet we can come up with enough where it's not an issue? I don't know how much international shipping is, so again with the promises. The same would go for @Scott6255 and @Avidkeo I think, right?
@Scott6255 what time do you get up to run? I cannot imagine running before work and getting the kids and myself off to school. I think my life would be better, but a 4am wake up time just sounds like two extra hours of drinking coffee Friend of mine asked me this weekend, "What would you change about your life, if you could change anything?" My answer was, I kid you not, "I'd wake up at 4am to run and still also run in the evenings, just shorter." That makes my life sound pretty dang good, right? Plus, it's something i COULD actually change if I'd actually just DO it.
Also @Tramboman I just scrolled up to reread your post from this morning: 9-8 to 9-13 "Virtual Boston with Vincent" Time goal 5:15:00; actual time 4:47:01"
THat's an AMAZING time! So jealous!
I ran the second leg of the Aravaipa Jangover *pronounced Hangover* challenge last night. It's getting dark an hour earlier now, what the heck. I had forgotten that would happen! And it was cool enough for long sleeves (for me at least). Tech long sleeved shirt and shorts and a trucker hat. And regular glasses. It was a really beautiful run. I throughly enjoyed it and I was much faster this time. Pace was 12:50 for 9.2 miles. That is really, really good for me. Huge improvement over the summer months and last week's feeling puny pace.
The thing about running last night is that, per the usual, I was so sure there was no way in hell I would make it out. My daughter was being a teenager and so freaking hateful and my son was antagonizing her to the nth degree, they both swore at each other, I made dinner and only my son ate most of his while my daughter said she hated it, even though I made it exactly how she likes it (yay autism AND teen years), and to top it all off my stomach hurt because I had tuna, kale, and sweet potatoes for lunch yesterday. I was fuming mad, but I don't beat my kids and I don't scream at them, I just simmer and take away everything they love. You hate me? Oh, cool. Well now you have no phone. I was born to ruin your life? You think that's my purpose on this earth? How sweet, now WE HAVE NO NETFLIX.
I didn't yell. I was calm. I just made it clear that when there is disrespect in my house, there is also consequence. You don't have awesome lives if you treat people badly.
You all can probably tell I'm still a little annoyed. Let it go, Mandy. They're just kids and the attitude is normal for their ages AND they're stressed about the pandemic too. And school. Bleh.
Needless to say, I really needed that run!
Tonight I'm making tortilla soup. I hope they hate it.

@WandaVaughn you're doing great! Priorities!
I used to pretend I was gonna catch a giant gar. I'd watch all these crazy youtube videos about it when the kids were like four and seven years old. We'd get all this weird junk crap and make a lure and a bobber and go sit for hours.
I never did catch a gar, so I am happy you caught some fish.2
