Not really sure what you mean, but I seldom see many people when I run, and if I do I just give them a wide berth or cross the street.

@RunsOnEspresso I hope you feel better.
@Scott6255 Congrats on your awesome HM time! The hard work is paying off.
@katharmonic I hope your friend did well. Glad you had a good run. It's great to hear about the nicer running weather in a lot of places.

RACE REPORT(!)
Today was half marathon #2 of my 3 weekends racing in a row. It was a 2-hr drive away, but I got a ride with a coworker who was also running (and he got a 9-minute PR!). I also got to see some other runners I know at the race. Quick summary: It was great!It was a small race (140 runners) in a small town, and I don’t know what was up, but the race started and EVERYONE was going out at 2-hour pace or faster. I know this because I was quickly in last place and that was my pace until a mile in when I decided that even my runner brain was easily able to calculate that this was INSANE. So I slowed down a bit - we were going uphill at this point anyway.
The course was challenging. Approximately 1k around the town, then uphill (with very little relief) for 5k, water at the top and then down for 5k, up a side road to the turnaround (decorated nicely with flowers, a flag, and a wagon wheel to go around) and then back up 5k and down 5k with an incline at the end I had forgotten about.
I actually REALLY liked this course, especially knowing if I could just get up the hill to around 15k, if would be downhill from there. There was a lot of shade from trees, and the weather was nice and cool.
I was ok being in last place, because I knew there would be people to pass on the way back up that hill, and just kept going at a steady pace. Right after the turnaround, I started catching people, one or two at a time. Just keep running, and they'd eventually come back to me. One close to the end was from last week's race, was walking, turned around and saw me (probably thought "Oh no, not HER again") and started running. I thought to myself, "Ok, challenge accepted". I got past them at a turn and didn't look back, but had to work hard to do this. So the last little bit was super hard but also short because I was almost there.
I finished 4 minutes faster than last week's flat course, and felt good. Now on to recovery and hopefully doing this again next weekend!13 -
13.3 miles this lovely morning. Ahhhh, 63°F felt so good. I just tried to enjoy it. Turned out to be the fastest HM since November 2018 (sub 2 hour), but it felt pretty easy. Just 10 - 15 degrees makes all the difference in the world 😁. The pain, sweat, and tears through the summer turned out to be just good training.

Great running @polskagirl01
Snuck some carbs in today and suddenly I can run at my old pace. Defo dropping this keto. I won't go full carb as I was before and stick to whole carbs and limit the amount I take on. Still I will go for a huge bag of Co-op crisps (chips to you Americans) next weekend.9 -
Today’s running temps were perfect! 54F at the start. Not sure what the humidity level was but it had to be on the low side. I got in 20 miles and it was so much better than last week’s 20 mile run. Like @Scott6255 said, it’s amazing what the drop in temperatures does!
Nice haul @TheMrWobbly!
Great act of kindness @hanlonsk!
@katharmonic – Glad your soul got some TLC on the trails.
Congratulations @polskagirl01! That was a hilly course! Well done!

Way to crush that 2nd HM @polskagirl01! With such a hilly course it is amazing that you were 4 minutes faster than last week! 👏👏💪3

@polskagirl01 Congratulations to you and your co-worker on your excellent races. Sounds tough, but also great that you got to finish mostly downhill.
I wound up playing singles tennis this morning. I came home and did an easy pace 3 mile run on the driveway. At 1:30 pm it was still only 68°F and 60% humidity. I know this weather won't last, but it's nice.
Also 10/20 miles walked.

@alphahowls - 55 days of HM+ WOW! just WOW!
@polskagirl01 - sounds like a fantastic HM! Congratulations!! I loved your description of picking off people to catch and pass! Made me think of @MobyCarp!!
I got out later this morning than planned after an unexpected call from my DD. She had a very busy week and this was our first chance to really talk. I made this my Remembering RBG (I'd Rather be Notorious) Run and since I ended up walking a bit because it got so hot (jealous of y'all's cooler and cold temps!) I had an opportunity to reflect on her incredible life and career. What an amazing person!
I am closing in on 2020 KMs for the Run the Year. I had planned to just run 1000 miles this year for the team but have managed to go quite a bit further!

@polska_girl EXCELLENT!
@AlphaHowls you are my hero
@Scott6255 i mean when you had covid- did you continue to run? I could be misremembering.
I did run today. My heart rate stayed too high and the first bit felt really awful. My lungs and throat were on fire. Used my inhaler and that helped some but the thing is, I should have used it BEFORE setting out. Didn’t even think of it. How is it that i can forget THE most important thing...
After I was breathing, I felt pretty good and I was just happy to be outside. My legs felt strong like they could forever but my lungs did not.
I really hope it’s just the change in season and allergies. I’m praying that’s all it is.
Running felt so good though and just being in the sun and feeling as though all is not lost.
I was able to stay away from people entirely - not many were out.
The weather was gorgeous - just around maybe 73F and I was only away from the kids for a couple of hours. They are home this weekend and I am so glad for the extra time - maybe we’ll go make some s’mores i can do that at least.
Jangover for aravaipa starts Monday.
My knee hurt the way back. Idk what happened kt what i did but it seems fine now. Please don’t say i need new shoes again.10 -

Super job @polskagirl01 that is one up and down course!! But did you get holy water?5 -
My ‘sort of race’ report. As you’ll know from my whinging earlier, my half for today was Covid’d and switched to a virtual event. Fortunately, my coach rallied and organized a run for his athletes - two loops of a rural route in South Auckland.
For social distancing purposes, we were divvied up by goal pace into small groups and sent off at two minute intervals. I guess there may have been about 80 runners in total. The course was a straightforward loop with the few intersections/turns marked in chalk. It was an open road but because we got underway at 7am there wasn’t much traffic.
My goal was to run a 1:45 and my coach’s goal for me was 1:44:59! So my pack of 7 had a 4:58 pacer. I’m not that keen on pace groups as you can unwittingly put your race outcome in someone else’s hands with them not pacing correctly. Fortunately, I’m stubborn and independent so had no ties to my pace group (I didn’t know any of them either). This was just as well as they set off at a blistering pace and they dropped me in the first kilometre.
For interest’s sake, my first kilometre was 5:03 and my second 4:58 and I was very steady from then on so they should have only been a few metres ahead of me not out of sight by then end of the first lap.
I managed to keep this pace up for the second lap, although I ran most of it with no one in sight. However, someone came up behind me and passed me in the last three kilometres and it was nice to have someone to follow to the finish.
Anyway, based on this, you can tell I achieved my goal - 1:45:29. Well, I think I did. I’m not bouncing from the ceiling as I had a watch glitch. As we were rural, it took a while for my Garmin to pick up the GPS signal. But when it did, at around 3.5km, it stopped recording and I had to press resume.
Unfortunately, there was nearly two minutes that didn’t get recorded and I was forced to run an extra 200-300 metres at the end to reach 21.1km, which I was NOT happy about.
The big issue is that I now have a bunch of conflicting data. Garmin says I did 21.1km in 1:45:29 but won’t give me a new PB because my elapsed time is 1:47.22. In Training Peaks, the app my coach uses, is the same but when you look at the detail, kilometre 4 was run at 4:45 pace and took 6:40 to complete, so clearly much longer than a kilometre. Strava, gives me 21.29km in 1:45:29, and the Running Events website, the organisers of the virtual half, takes the Strava time, chops the distance to 21.1km and has given me an official time of 1:44:30!
So, upshot is, I’m not quite sure what my real result is. My coach is going to unravel the mystery for me tomorrow. However, my head is saying, “give me another race so I can get a real result”.
I need to get over myself. Whichever result is accurate, it’s still at least three - yes, three - minutes faster than my last PB. So, yay me!
Another cool thing, we had an official photographer on course - one of the ones who’d be doing the real race were it on - and he took literally thousands of photos of us and gave them to us for free!15 -
@ContraryMaryMary wooo hooo go you for beating your PB gwhat ever the result was. And awesome on the pics. That's fantastic1
-
Hey guys, so I'm still kinda floating around. Kinda lost things for a couple of weeks as I had an illness - just a nasty cold that lingered.
I'm still getting over the calf injury. It's mostly pain free with occasional niggles. I did a hop on the spot test on Thursday, which it passed (no pain during or after), though still felt tight.
Today I was naughty, while on my 5k walk I did a couple of short jogs to test it out. Literally 4 jogs between a couple of power poles, so about 30 steps each. Good news, no pain at all doing them. And now, about 9hrs later, no pain, though im getting some ofldd niggles a little lower down.
So no more testing for a couple more weeks. I have physio on Tuesday. I suspect I'll be doing more strength training. I'm starting to think perhaps the first week of October I'll be able to start some short runs. Probably no more than a couple of minutes at first.
Fingers crossed!13 -
@ContraryMaryMary congratulations! Sounds like a real PB to me That's great that there were some other runners there with you and that you got some great pictures!2
-
Oh sorry @Camaramandy648 that I was too dense to understand your question, but the answer is the same.
Unbelievable @AlphaHowls! You are truly superhuman!!!
Fantastic race @ContraryMaryMary! That's a PB in my book.0 -
Amazing job @ContraryMaryMary! And I fully understand the madness. I finished an actual non virtual half marathon last year and my Garmin had me short by a little bit so I hit resume and ran a bit more carrying my loot!!
@AlphaHowls - you are superhuman.
@Avidkeo - good to see you. You’ve been so patient and worked hard to recover. Please stay super careful now and don’t rush the last bit!
I managed 10 miles this morning, first time in nearly a year. I averaged one second over 11.5 minute per mile, which means the Garmin conversion to MFP gave me an automatic post saying I ran 12 minute miles instead of 11.5. Can not believe I am petty enough that it bothers me but, cmon! One second!!!
Fragile ego aside, I’m very pleased that I was able to keep going for that long. Before my surgery I had 10km as my standard regular run, with 10miles as my long run once a week. Not sure I’ll do 10 miles every week now but it’s nice to know I can!
Happy Sunday x

Sunny, mid 40s F and very little breeze. The perfect morning to run in shorts and short sleeves!!!
Hopped on the scales last night after spending the week eating to recover from the VM with Vincent. The results were not pretty.
I love to do maths in my head while running. These are today's maths:
If I weigh 20 lbs more than I want, and I were to hop up and down on one foot, that whole 20 lbs would be applied to that foot and through my body. But physics tells me I have a forward vector, and I have ligaments and tendons and joints that help absorb some of that force, as well as the rolling action of my feet. So let's say for example's sake there is 10 lbs of force applied to my body each time my foot hits the ground. And, if I take 8,000 steps during my 7k run, that equates to 80,000 lbs of force being applied to my legs and body. Fortunately I have two feet, so that is 40,000 lbs of force per foot. That's ONLY 20 tons per foot per day. I run 6 days a week, so that's 120 tons of force per foot per week.
No wonder my knees are stiff!!!
When you pop in here claiming your December 2020 mileage, what accomplishments will you have made?

My throat doesn’t hurt as much today. I was just about to say it doesn’t hurt at all but then i swallowed 😒

@polskagirl01 @ContraryMaryMary Great running, congrats!
@skippysmom I have tried a compression sleeve with my calf when I injured that, not with the hamstring. Seems to be better today after a couple days of not running. Going to give it a couple more probably and see.
Spinning yesterday, and today may actually try yoga.
@Tramboman you need it back lol!

@polskagirl01 it’s awesome to hear the way different countries have races, the traditions and all. One of my dearest friends is from Poland and I love to hear her stories about running.
@ContraryMaryMary I’ve never used a pace group but what was there plan to get way ahead of their time by flying the first half, that’s not how it works. Skip started with a pace group for her marathon and her a few others dumped them within 2 miles because they STOPPED, they STOPPED to let other people go by, crazy. Great time… no matter which one it is, but that is very frustrating. Awesome pictures
@Avidkeo I hope you’re 100% soon.
@Faebert great job on the 10 miles – I get frustrated too at the things Garmin does with distance and time
@Tramboman you think too much when you run ha ha!!! I don’t like to ever do math.
