@RunsOnEspresso me before every single race. You are not alone rotfl3

Ok, not been keeping up much here, but just scrolled through recent posts.
@kgirlhart I'm sorry to hear that. *virtual hugs*
@Camaramandy648 I hope you get good news, and soon.
@RunsOnEspressoThis happens all too often for me. I get runner's stomach, which has not just caused issues in training runs, but in races too. This is a big part of why I don't eat for 20-30 hours before races. Not only that, but I have bile acid malabsorption... so loperamide doesn't even work every time. For months, the bathroom at the park I normally run has been closed despite nobody caring about Covid around here otherwise. But that means I have to run/walk carefully for 2km back home and hope to make it when needed.6 -
@Camaramandy648 @T1DCarnivoreRunner I knew others would have issues. My usual issue is my bladder so this was a first while on a run for me.2
-
@kgirlhart So sorry to hear about your dad. I'm glad you guys were able to be there with him in the end.2
-
@eleanorhawkins What is it with parents, indeed!?! I'm sorry you can't be there in person for your dad. The distance probably takes the stress up a notch or two. Keeping you in my thoughts.1

Chipping away at my monthly goal. It was a pretty nice morning here. My legs were a bit tired because I went climbing the last 2 days and really pushed myself. I finally feel like my strength is back to where it was before all the closures/quarantine took climbing away. I was worried it would take a long time to get back, but it came back way faster than I expected.6 -

@shanaber glad the smoke is calming down for you, super pictures
@kgirlhart my heart is breaking for you, I’m so sorry about your Dad. It was a blessing you were able to be in with him. Hugs!
@eleanorhawkins sorry about your Dad, praying it’s not a tumor – maybe you can ask a nurse to take her phone in so you can talk to him
@marisap2010 I love to see deer, I see them a lot when I’m on the trail. Skip used to go to school in GA near Berry College, you have to look them up, they are geographically the largest college in the world (or our country) whichever, but you just drive forever and it’s trails and woods and lakes and if you are there at dust literally hundreds of deer come out on campus and just walk along. It’s amazing.
@RunsOnEspresso – I know the feeling…this is really TMIbut we have these right of ways behind a lot of our houses, they are for water when it rains, most people keep their fences off them so it creates at 5-10 foot wide alley behind houses, I’ve stopped more times than I can count. Ha ha I know I’m going to get caught on someone’s ring doorbell one day

@kgirlhart I am so so sorry. Condolences to you and your family.
@eleanorhawkins Sorry about your day. Covid really has created more than it knows. I also could not go see my cousin when he was sick and passed - for the same reasons.
@RunsOnEspresso Been there done that.
@shanaber really glad the air quality is better! Looks much nicer now.
@Camaramandy648 Oh gosh. Yeah hope it's negative. And allergies. Hang in there. Love the idea of medals. And helping Kristi run it in.
Walk/Slow run today. Damn the hamstring. I will probably just not run/walk for the next few days and just get on the bike. It's time to listen and be good and do as I say.
Remnants of Sally came through. Feels like Fall here today.
My son's 15th Birthday tomorrow. How did that happen?6 -

Thank you everyone, for the well wishes. This morning i was SURE i had strep. Had some groceries delivered, added sambucus to the order. It’s elderberry gummies. Elderberry is a natural antibiotic. Also drank some apple cider vinegar, which I usually do anyway but upped the amount today.
The biggest thing is that I am so beyond tired. I felt okay and still had no fever except my throat was burning and I could feel the swelling. I cleaned the house and put on a movie, knowing I wouldn’t make it through ten minutes.
That was over two hours ago and I just woke up. And i want cheese wiz. Yes, the cheese that’s in a can. I don’t even need crackers. Just get me cheese whiz. My throat doesn’t feel as bad, now.
I called for results earlier today and they wouldn’t check my chart for me at all - they just said “you’ll get a text.” Problem is that a lot of people are NOT getting a text and they have to keep calling. So i just wait, I guess.
The cheese whiz has not magically appeared and I really wish my daughter were old enough to drive to get it 😂7 -
Thanks everyone for the hugs, thoughts, prayers. You guys are the closest thing I have to friends, so it means a lot.
My step-mother messaged... they have him on steroids and he will be taken for an appointment at the specialist hospital in London on Thursday. He's tired and confused and he seems to think he's only there because he fell over. She doesn't know whether they haven't told him anything else or it isn't registering.
@hamsterwheel6 my daughter will be 15 next month. Terrifying, isn't it?! Re the hamstring, I probably haven't caught all the details and you've probably tried but have you rolled the f*cker? Foam roller doesn't do much for my calves, only the evil physio manages that, but heavy duty rolling tends to keep my quads and hamstrings obedient.5 -
Some runners porn to distractOne long sleeve, two short, one pair trousers, two pairs of socks and two pairs of gore-tex sonomas for £115 - who can say no?
12 -
@Eleanorhawkins - could they bring a phone into his room so you could talk to him? I am hoping your stepmom will be able to give you all the details of what they have found and how they plan to treat. If not maybe she could allow his doctors to update you at least? It is so so hard being away from your parents when they are sick and not being able to help or comfort them in some way! I was not able to be with either my mom or dad (one in another state and one in Spain) and it was horrible!
@RunsOnEspresso - I have similar issues typically around 3-4 miles. Fortunately we have bathrooms (now with soap dispensers at the sinks to help alleviate the Covid worries!) on the trail if I am close enough. I do try to eat only a little before I run and I have learned pretty well what I can and can't eat but sometimes even that doesn't work
@skippygirlsmom - UC Santa Cruz is similar to Berry College. The deer were everywhere. My dd's comment when we visited during HS was that she didn't want to go to college in hiking boots!
No run for me today. We had to take the car in for an early service appointment. Will get out though in the morning in hopefully cool low 60F temps! I need to make up some distance after missing several days due to the smoke if I am going to make my goal this month.
5 -
@Camaramandy648 - Hope you get the results soon. I have heard that one of the symptoms is that overwhelming tiredness. Elderberry syrup is great stuff! I like to mix it with sparkling water.
@TheMrWobbly - love the shoes! Also the grey long-sleeved shirt(?) with the yellow trim! You got a great deal!
@hamsterwheel6 - Happy Birthday to your son! Just way it doesn't get easier as they grow up. I have an adult daughter and I still can't figure out how that happened when I am only 22 🤣5 -
@eleanorhawkins Really do hope you can get to talk to him in some way. It must be hard all of this.
I have rolled it in the beginning, but probably need to do some more. I have been doing stretch classes as well. I injured it on a run a couple weeks back on an interval as I took of for the run bit. Probably took off to quick and I felt it pull.mimmnew straight away. With many curses spoken by me.
I do not know how he is 15 lol. Though his is quite the typical teenage boy right now. Terrified yes, I am. And @shanaber Im 22 too, so really how is he 15? 😂
@TheMrWobbly Nice haul!4 -
@TheMrWobbly - from where??!! UK based asics fan wondering how I can get all that for the price of one pair of shoes!!3

No running to report the past couple of
Days. Did the PT appointment. Was mostly uneventful- I’ve done this dance enough times, I mostly have to explain that I’m already doing all those exercises before I called them. 🤷♀️
This time however the pt guy I got, wants to work on doing a bit of form/stride changes- that should be entertaining for a klutz like me. He also did dry needling- which was a first for me. So, who knows. All I know was I was sore as heck from all the messing around with it and “well can you do this?” type testing.
Yesterday was also the closest I came to the RAOK bit of our challenge. Wasn’t exactly random, as I donated blood, and they only come to our town every couple of months. But if I remember correctly, Vincent donated regularly. I meant to get a picture for our project while I was actually donating—- but, the gal donating next to me passed out BAD.... like took a while to bring her back sort of bad.... so, I was a bit distracted, and forgot. So, this was the closest I came to getting a logical visual when I finally remembered.5 -

@Faebert There is an Asics outlet in Gunwharf Quays at Portsmouth where my daughter occassionally needs to go. Some of the gear is on the outlet website https://outlet.asics.com/gb/en-gb/1 -
@RunsOnEspresso Yep. Been there. Done that. That's why I now make sure I go before leaving the house.

@Camaramandy648 Hope you feel better. If I were close by, I'd bring you some Cheese Wiz. LOL
@TheMrWobbly Love the porn. Thanks!
@hamsterwheel6 Happy Birthday to your son! Hope you are able to celebrate somehow.

I still didn't accumulate much mileage, but I did get out to the trails for a good walk/run with Stella. This is a tough date for me on a personal/emotional level so I left work at about 1:00 to take some time to enjoy the really gorgeous cool weather and get some nature therapy. Every year for the past several I've gone away for this particular weekend to the Adirondacks and I wasn't able to get away right now, so I felt the need to at least get into the woods and on some trails. Plus Stella is still crazy wound up (the cooler weather is making her extra energetic I think). I found a new trail about 30 minutes from me that I've never been to and headed out. It was a nice trail around a large pond/small lake with a lot of offshoot trails as well. Looks like it's used for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing a lot in the winter as the trails were marked for that.
We walked the first two miles and then I decided I really needed to just get my run in whether Stella liked it or not. The trail was pretty nice for running, not too treacherous. The run was slow with lots of stopping to smell things (Stella, not me). Speaking of which, we saw quite a bit of horse poop so apparently they are also riding trails. There were a few campsites on one end of the pond and a few people were there but I didn't see any other people on the trail at all. It was just what I was looking for in letting the fresh air of nature help clear the mind and calm the soul.
A little later I decided to pick up take-out and I brought it to the park by my house to watch the sunset over the lake. I'm not sure why I never did that before, because it was lovely (but got pretty chilly!).6 -
0918-3k, total-25.8k goal-80k
Yeah... not gonna make that goal. Work has been an enormous pile of *kitten*. I think I clocked 60 hours over the last 4 days. Great fun.
Anyway, did 3km in the dead of night because my back was killing me. Took all of 20 minutes and came back feeling infinitely better. Then got a whole night's sleep, then lifted this morning. Almost feel like a complete person again. This running thing might be better than medicine.Yesterday was also the closest I came to the RAOK bit of our challenge. So, this was the closest I came to getting a logical visual when I finally remembered.
I'm planning to go tomorrow, plus hopefully sign up for stem cell donation. The kind for people who get leukemia. Bit of a long shot. I'd quite rather anyone who can pair with me not get it in the first place, but if it can help anyone, ya know.
@Camaramandy648 Keep us posted, hope you feel better soon.
@TheMrWobbly Now I've got envy!9 -
Thanks, everyone!
Still no results! Next challenge starts Monday. The first distance is 7k. Not bad at all, just wondering how I can safely complete it without harming anyone else, in case I am positive.
I usually have problems with sleep maintenance but last night, even after such a long nap in the middle of the day, I slept all 9 hours, straight through. That is very abnormal for me, though it was really nice.
@themrwobbly what a great freaking haul! How did you manage that?!?!?? I would not have said no, rotfl. Absolutely not!
I ordered some sleeves from oiselle yesterday. Pretty excited about them and definitely wished I had them last year. And now I definitely wish I had ordered them when they were on sale this summer lol.
*sigh* would really like to try to run today but where and how?3 -
@katharmonic I think we all have days that are particularly emotional for us. Glad you were able to leave work early and get in some nature time. It sounds like a wonderfully calming day.
@Camaramandy648 Maybe you should take today off, since you are feeling so tired and your next challenge starts tomorrow. But, you do you and don't listen to me. LOL I'm the world's worst at being able to talk myself out of running.
Today was supposed to have been my first HM. Looks like the weather would have been perfect in Dayton, OH. Upper 40's. Oh well. Maybe next year. I had planned to do my long run today, as we are having similar weather - lower 50s, high lower 70's. But, I'm going to play tennis this morning instead. I'll see how I feel when I get home.4 -
@Camaramandy648 which sleeves did you get? Last year I got the luxe free with an order and OMG they are so awesome
I think I'm taking the weekend off (might walk the dog). Yesterday's run I had trouble taking in deep breaths. It lasted most of the day. My head is stuffy and my ears are crackling and won't pop. I felt very warm yesterday afternoon but no fever. (My office does get warm but it felt warmer yesterday than normal)5 -

@Camaramandy648 thinking good thoughts for you! Hope you are negative. Nice accomplishment on the continuous sleep. That would be a huge PR for me 😄🥱
13.3 miles this lovely morning. Ahhhh, 63°F felt so good. I just tried to enjoy it. Turned out to be the fastest HM since November 2018 (sub 2 hour), but it felt pretty easy. Just 10 - 15 degrees makes all the difference in the world 😁. The pain, sweat, and tears through the summer turned out to be just good training.

@RunsOnEspresso i think they’re the cirrus or something. I’m pretty excited about them! I don’t like wearing a lot of layers but i also despise being cold. Hopefully this will be a good happy medium.
@quilteryoyo i really want to take today off but i want to run more 😞
@Scott6255 how did you manage running in such a way where you did not put others at risk?
I run on trails mostly, so was thinking if i did that, id be avoiding people anyway, right?1 -

What a gorgeous fall morning. My phone said it was 30 degrees when I woke up, but it wasn't frosty at all so I'm not sure I believe that. It was very cool out but the sun was shining and the sky was blue, and it was perfect for running. I wore capris and a long sleeve tech shirt with a tank underneath just in case I really warmed up and some gloves. I was more worried I'd be too cold, but other than the hands getting alternately hot and cold I was good with my long sleeves on the whole time. In the shade was cool and it felt wonderful whenever we came back out and the sun warmed you up again.
This is the first time in quite a while that a long run didn't feel like a chore. I could have easily run farther but have other things to do today so called it done at 8.5.
One of my Spartan/hiking friends is doing her first ever half marathon race today. It's a small trail race with a staggered start so they were able to hold it. I brought her a good luck first half marathon goody bag yesterday and she was so nervous. At least it was a fantastic day for it. I'm not going to the race but I'll go out with her and some friends later to celebrate. I'm waiting to hear updates on how she's doing. I think she'll do really well, but I just hope she's not disappointed because I feel like her expectations are way up there and her time goal did not seem very realistic for a trail race (totally realistic for her for a road race, but this trail is not easy. At all).7 -
@Camaramandy648 I have a pair of [cheap] sleeves and love them for Fall. Especially that I can push them down if I get to warm.4
