10-ish km this afternoon, nothing interesting to report. But I keep trying to let @AlphaHowls into the MFP Strava group, and every time I try to click on the notification, my whole phone freezes. Other notifications in Strava were fine. Maybe it's her awesome high mileage. Hopefully one of the other admins can accept her request.5

It is showing as accepted. I am getting a new fitbit on Monday for my birthday, so hopefully it will work with strava and log my runs.

Happy birthday @AlphaHowls. I'm sure you had to get a new Fitbit because you wore out your old one 😉.
@Camaramandy648 welcome to Texas. Today's weather is pretty gross, right? Hope your run was better than mine.
It was 64°F with about 90% humidity. I wasn't really anticipating how uncomfortable it was when I started out this morning. The first 6 miles were ok, but then I started getting really tired, so I walked while I took a gel and drink. Then I had to stop and walk after every mile after that. I was sweating soooo much. Ended up with 13.1 miles, but it felt like 20.

@Scott6255 That humidity can really zap you. Good for you for getting it done.

I have gone through 4 in five years, this will be my 5th. 5th for my 50 sounds good!

Happy Birthday @AlphaHowls!
5th for 50 sounds perfect! Hopefully they are getting better with each iteration so they last longer, maybe...2 -
Happy 50th birthday @AlphaHowls! I'm not surprised you go through a fitbit a year with those miles. Hope you have a great one!

Most of my Saturday morning squad were not around today for various reasons, so just two of us headed out for the long run today. It was 40ish degrees but felt chillier than expected around the lake. I was glad I put on the warmer leggings. The time went fast as we had a lot to catch up on and issues to work through. I always call it my it my talk therapy session when I run with this friend, she's a very good listener - although her advice is probably more questionable and filled with swearing than a paid therapist might offer.
After I got home, I immediately changed to dry and warmer clothes and took the dog out for her walk so I could get it all over with and then take a nap! Which is what I'm going to do now.

Long run this morning. I'm at the point in training where I have the cardiovascular fitness but my legs aren't there yet. It's weird simultaneously feeling like I can go forever and can't keep moving. But, overall the long runs are easier this year than they were last year, so that's reassuring.6 -

Maybe you're wearing out the GPS satellites as well.4 -
@AlphaHowls Happy Birthday, and I'm glad you're getting a new Fitbit because I was kinda disappointed that you didn't go straight to the top of the leaderboard. I'm not sure who a lot of the people in the Strava group are, and am guessing they either don't post here anymore, or use different usernames and I haven't made the connection.
I'll be cheering you on3 -

Hey all.
Been Mia, busy busy. Running, been following the plan. One more week then I start HM training again. Right calf is good. Starting to get weird sensations in left shin. Feels a bit like shin splints, but with pins and needles. Anyone else had that?2 -
Happy Birthday, @AlphaHowls!
I’ve never had that sensation, @Avidkeo, but I hope it stops for you!
I attended a RIPPED class at the gym and followed it up with 2.5 miles on the treadmill. My Turkey Trot goodie bag was just delivered. I won’t take the medal out til after I run, but it came with a pretty nice jacket and beanie. The jacket is a decent weight for layering on cooler runs!

The fitbit I have now, shows it is connected, but because I do not have gps on it, I would have to log manually. If this one does not do it automatically, I will still not manually log. I am content with how I manage as it is.

Speedwork for me - attempted something slightly more structured, 800 m intervals - did a fast half mile then an easy half then a fast half, repeat for three miles then a fast finish to bring it to 5k. Tell you what, I need to be doing intervals because my body is seriously slow to start and stop! It’s like, oh, we’re done here? Cool, I will shut down for the day. What is this? Running hard again? But I already clocked out...
Anyway the first interval came in under 8 minute mile pace which is nice for me, I just need to do two of those in a row to equal my PR, which I haven’t done in a couple years due to injuries! Anything faster than 8 is basically sprinting for me. I felt absolutely cooked by the third interval but managed to hit 7:00 on the fast finish anyway! Now, just gotta work on stringing those together WITHOUT the rest breaks!
We went for a long walk through the nearby neighborhood after, at one point were joined by a nice black lab. He was on the other side of the road just trotting along beside us. We figured he was escorting us past his yard and would stop, but he kept going. So we were worried he was following us and would get lost. (This is not a neighborhood where dogs normally run loose.) But he seemed not to be paying attention to us at all. When we spoke to him, he waved his tail, but he was clearly headed somewhere on his own business.
So here comes a car, pulls up next to him, older man leaps out and grabs the dog, stuffs dog in the car. My husband said, “I’m glad you found him! We were getting worried about where he belonged!” Man says, “This dog clearly does not know the Tigers are playing, making me chase him like this! When I noticed he was out I knew just where he was going, he always goes to the same place - my neighbors leave the gate to their pool open and he goes and jumps in their pool!”
So that was our amusing interaction for the day. And now I am worried about little children getting into the yard with the pool!7 -

8km in the evening. First run since it has gotten really cold in Beijing, it was 2 degrees and very windy. Spent the first 2km trying to remember how exactly I didn't freeze to death last year in these same clothes. Finished my Ekiden leg! (finally)

Yesterday, a couple of friends and I ran the local YWCA Turkey Trot (virtual). This was first 5k that I ever signed up for as a runner so it had special meaning to me. Although we could run it anywhere, we decided to run the actual race route which was in Bristol, Tennessee. The weather was great. Clear skies and 38F at 6:30 am. I had turn-by-turn directions printed (there were a lot of them) and another lady had the map printed but we still managed to take a wrong turn someplace. We ended up hitting the mileage before we got back to the YWCA parking lot even though we didn’t follow the course 100%. No record PRs for any of us since we spent a lot of time trying to figure out which way to go and watching out for street names. It’s so much easier in an actual race when you have course marshalls directing you and all you have to think about is running! After the 5k, one lady left and another friend met us for some additional miles. We wondered back and forth between the VA and TN line. I ended up with 12.10 miles for the day.10 -
@rheddmobile Great run. I have those paces only in my dreams. The story about the lab is funny, but I'm with you - if he can just walk in, so can a child. Pool Ownership 101 is to have a fence around the pool that you keep locked. That's so dangerous.
Great run @Teresa502 ! I can imagine it would be hard to follow the actual course, esp. with lots of turns. But, sounds like you all had fun. That's what is important.4 -

Drizzly and mid 30s F today, with the wind out of the northeast. Snuck out while the boss was doing her treadmill work -- so she couldn't yell at me for running outside in this weather (you know how significant others are...). Saw a lot of squirrels out feeding, so it's easy to tell bad weather is coming.

This morning’s plan called for another time trial. Garmin decided to provide me with more positive feedback than last week. 🤣 I am a bit sore from doing a class and a run yesterday, so I didn’t run any extra other than the warm up and cool down. 2.66 miles5

Great job @Teresa502 ! Those course markings really are important.1
-
@rheddmobile congrats on your great pace on your intervals. The dog story is funny. Hope he stays safe though and everyone else with the pool. I forget some people live where it's warm and I was immediately thinking why is a pool open? Although my previous dog hated swimming but used to love to lay on the cover of my pool if she had a chance. It was a taut cover but would sink down just enough so she could lay in a pool of water. Of course she was not allowed to do that, and being a totally blind dog I watched her like a hawk but she was determined. I no longer live in that house with a pool (thank goodness, it was way too much maintenance and not a long enough season here) but it was always a worry that the dog or a child would get in the fenced and fall in.
@Teresa502 great job on your extra long turkey trot.
@polskagir01 I didn't know if we could post links or not either. I don't see why not but I know some links get removed. Hopefully anyone here interested in joining us on Strava can find us or let us know if you want the link messaged to you.
@Tramboman squirrels feeding is a sign of bad weather coming? I suppose they are getting prepared. I did see a ton of squirrels out today.
@marisap2010 good job getting your time trial done despite being sore. Glad Garmin was kind to you this time. I've been finding Garmin grumpy lately - constantly telling me I'm "unproductive".

I was happy to not set an alarm this morning and start the day slowly. I met a friend to run at 9 and we did our usual route along the canal. We saw this fantastic heron in a tree. I've seen the heron there quite a bit but never in a tree, it was very cool
It was supposed to start raining after about 11 or noon today so after the run I went out to do some yard cleanup before things got all wet. I already had my lawn service do a major fall cleanup of tons of leaves and branches but there were surprisingly still a lot of leaves left, so I got a good workout raking and dragging leaves from the back to the front. Stella was helpful as usual in trying to grab every stick and run away with it. I put away and covered all the furniture so now I guess we're winterized. As I was finishing a few snowflakes were falling as if to verify that.
I took Stella for a walk after that but I was worn out and knew she'd gotten quit a bit of exercise from running the yard so we cut it pretty short.7 -
62 miles as of today. 38 to go. It's going to be tough but I'll get it done.
Finished every damn trail today! Just over a month and half to finish my chosen park. I don't know how many miles I did but I may add it up. Because of missed turns and bad days I had to redo some sections to reach some parts of the park. But that's all part of the adventure isn't it?10 -
@katharmonic Sounds like a great run and excellent timing. Love the picture of the heron too.
@RunsOnEspresso Congratulations on finishing your challenge! Sounds like a fun one.2 -

Didn’t run on Saturday, Skip and I were at the RunningLane XC Championships from 6:15 am until around 2:00 pm volunteering. This is one of our local Race Directors and friends who put this meet on. When the high school XC Nationals were cancelled they threw this meet together in 6 weeks. There were entries from all over the country, from CA to NY to TX to IL all came to Alabama for this. What a day of racing, 32 boys finished in UNDER 15 minutes for a 5K and the girl who won set a new NATIONAL record of 14:58, she was freaking flying and what a nice girl. What an amazing day, over 1,000 runners.
Today we did a virtual charity run, I’ve talked about these before where this guy puts a charity in town and asks for at least a $5.00 donation and marks a course for 10 days. It was in downtown Huntsville and we had a blast talking lots of pictures and ended up running a 10K instead of the 5 and then had some yummy pasta sitting at the pond. Great morning
Happy birthday @AlphaHowls I personally think Fitbit should give you a free one like you know when they give a new car to someone who drove 300,000 miles in their car
@Avidkeo I’ve never felt like pins and needles, hope it stops soon
@Teresa502 sounds like a great day of running, I love the Bristol area
