@WhatMeRunning There are few things I hate more than intervals -- wind aided or not.3

Had a bunch of errands to do yesterday, didn’t get out until after dark when Greenline is closed so had to run the neighborhood. Well, a neighborhood - we actually drove to a nicer and safer neighborhood!
It was a beautiful run, it’s that time of year when the breeze on your skin feels like a blessing. Cherry blossoms by moonlight, can’t beat that! Easy 5k, very slow but a lot of hills so at least we got some work in.
In unrelated news, I think the raccoon in my storeroom has babies! I heard tiny squeaks and chitters in there!7 -
@nickseger Oooh, carbon fiber plate! I haven’t tried the Endorphin Pro but have demoed the Nike 4%, and I felt like I was gonna break my neck, like I was running on ice skate blades! Are the Saucony ones as narrow as the Nike? Someone like me who is super slow and needs a stability shoe, well, they just aren’t made for me!
I was looking at the Saucony site and one of the reviews for the Endorphin Pro is from a lady who says she uses them for WALKING, has foot issues, and they are helping her with her sore feet. What? Did this lady really pay $200 for a carbon fiber plate to walk around in? And surely they are not helping her bunions at ALL.5 -
3/17 - 1.67 mile 31 min easy effort
3/18 - .98 mile 15 min stamina effort
3/19 - 1.66 mile 30 min easy effort
3/22 - 1.67 mile 30 min easy effort
3/23 - 1.73 mile 30 min easy effort
3/24 - 1.31 mile 20 min stamina effort
3/25 - 1.75 mile 30 min easy effort
Everything seems to be as expected today after yesterdays stamina run, so I think I have all of my fitness plans dialed in where I need them for the start of my training. I use the term training loosely because all I am targeting is building strength, aerobic capacity and speed through the end of summer (and losing weight). No events in mind at all. Just better, faster and stronger.
@Avidkeo - Sounds like this watch is going to push you in all the right ways. Sounds great!
@polskagirl01 - So good to hear you have the woods to run in, and are prepared to defend against any wolves. Or maybe they will let you run with them?
@rheddmobile - That does sound like a fantastic nighttime run. Not so good about the raccoons though. Unless you wanted raccoons, of course.6 -
Thanks @martaindale ! I hope your husband keeps it up. It would be nice to plan some running trips together.
Nice running @nickseger ! I don't think I realized you live in Dayton. Have you ever run the AF marathon, or HM? I was training for the HM last year when everything shut down. It would have been my first. I may try again this year. Just wondering what your thoughts were on it, if you know.
You are doing great @Avidkeo ! I can't wait to see how your race goes!
@polskagirl01 That's so cool that people are actually picking up the trash! I guess it is contagious.
Sounds like a nice run @rheddmobile ! Baby racoons are adorable.
The RTW challenge is making it's way toward Syracuse, NY. Doing great everyone.

It has been raining here all day, with scattered storms and more predicted. I opted for a treadmill walk when I got home from work today. I did a ladder from 3.5 - 3.8 back to 3.5 mph - 5 minutes on each step. That keeps it a little more interesting.

What??!!! *cleans furiously* I haven't even prepared for you all!
I haven't checked in on the challenge for a bit and didn't see how close we were. You all will be running within a couple miles of my house. If I were going to be home I'd set up a water stop for you with snacks!
If you zoom in on the map you will see Green Lakes State Park just north of the route and just east of Syracuse. That's near my house. Here are a few pics of it from a week or so ago. There are actually 2 lakes, Green Lake and Round Lake. The water looks green and blue because it is meromictic , which means no seasonal mixing of surface and bottom waters occurs. It is a small lake but super deep, up to 195 feet, and was formed by glaciers.
t
Just to show you I run there a lot, here's my most recent run in Strava. The loop around both lakes is almost a perfect 5k.
If I had more time, I'd take you on a better running tour of Syracuse but that will have to do because I'm packing to head out tomorrow for the Adirondacks and some hiking. I didn't run today and I probably won't run all weekend - just hiking and relaxing this weekend. It feels weird after all last year having to keep my run streak going to convince myself I don't need to pack running gear or remember to run at the end of a long hike.
Hopefully I can check in and won't miss the passing through Syracuse. I'll leave the key under the mat and you guys can just make yourselves at home

The weather forecast for this morning was rain and 40's so I decided to do my short run for my streak today at lunchtime and my regular run tomorrow morning. It was perfect running weather at lunch and it was nice to run in the daylight. I ran to the park and once around the walking trail. It did rain overnight but wasn't raining when I got up. So I kind of missed my run this morning, but I was glad I ran later when it was sunny. I could see lots of flowers blooming. It was a really nice spring day.

Hi everyone, I’m really behind again. Huge challenges in both work and family life at the moment so very little time to post. But trying to keep reading and catch up with where you all are when I can. And I am still running! Thank goodness, I need it for my sanity!!!
I’m still catching up but I’ve loved seeing that @Avidkeo is back to smashing it and cannot believe the progress @quilteryoyo has already made in recovering from surgery. Very inspiring ladies.
Health-wise I’m still not quite where I was before I caught Covid, but as long as I’m working, running and strength training regularly I can live with it. I know others have had much worse experiences.
Sending lots of love out there to you all and hoping that I’ll be back in a place where I can regularly post again soon. X

@quilteryoyo at least they're picking it up near the parking spaces. There's a lot of work left to be done.
@katharmonic great pictures, and I love that you're the "Local Legend"!
@Faebert Your running and strength training must be helping, even if you aren't feeling 100%. Sounds like you're listening to your body and doing what you can.

3/2 - 4 early morning miles that felt really awesome
Total for March - 4 miles
Goal for March - 70 miles
Miles to go - 66 miles
I have to say, even though I don't respond a lot, I do read and you all are such a positive, upbeat bunch and I love it. I love the motivation. I did the challenges 2 years ago, but then "The Year That Will Be Forgotten" happened.
So:
March 3 - 3.11 miles
March 4 - 3.11 miles
March 5 - Today will be some spin and strength
Total for March - 10.22 miles
Goal for March - 70 miles
Miles to go - 59.78 miles
My huge goal this year is to get my base back that I lost last year. Before 2020, I was averaging 1000+ mile years and last year, I barely got to 600. So, my base is shot.
I ran 5 miles today without walking and felt totally amazing the entire time. Super happy with how it went and I have no doubt that I'll get to my goals this year. March goal is to get up to 6 miles comfortably and I'm sure I can do it.
March 6 - 5 miles
Total for March - 15.22 miles
Goal for March - 70 miles
Miles to go - 54.78 miles
Donated blood on Saturday morning, so I kind of expected my Sunday run to be a bit rough. Ended up being a beautiful day and I was actually 20 seconds faster per mile than what I normally run. Perhaps the slight weight loss helped .
March 7 - 3.19 miles
March 8 - Spinning after work - No running today
Total for March - 18.41 miles
Goal for March - 70 miles
Miles to go - 51.59 miles
Well...it caught up to me. Today's run with rough, but I got through it. Was a beautiful morning and considering I almost didn't get out there, I'll take it as a win.
March 9 - 4.5 miles
Total for March - 22.91 miles
Goal for March - 70 miles
Miles to go - 47.09 miles
Get busy for one day and you miss so much!
I'll have my first in person race in over a year (it will be 444 days to be exact) on March 20 and I'm excited but nervous. Just trying to focus on what I can control. I signed up for the last start time, so hopefully won't be a busy course.
March 10 - 3.12 miles of speed work
March 12 - 3.11 miles - Just a good ol' 5K to start the day
Total for March - 29.14 miles
Goal for March - 70 miles
Miles to go - 40.86 miles
Quick update for the weekend...
March 13 - 5.57 miles
March 14 - 3.26 miles
Total for March - 37.97 miles
Goal for March - 70 miles
Miles to go - 32.03 miles
So I am adding a small weekly goal for this week...I'd like to run a total of 20 miles. I think I can do it.
March 15 - Spin and weights
March 16 - 3.11 miles and weights
Total for March - 41.08 miles
Goal for March - 70 miles
Miles to go - 28.92 miles
Miles for the week (March 15-March 21) - 3.11 miles with 16.89 miles to go
Leg work last night and speed work this morning = sore me....eeek.
March 17 - 4.07 miles
Total for March - 45.15 miles
Goal for March - 70 miles
Miles to go - 24.85 miles
Miles for the week (March 15-March 21) - 7.18 miles with 12.82 miles to go
First in person race in 444 days is tomorrow. Nervous, but excited to have this tiny bit of normal back in my life.
March 19 - 5.25 miles to start the day.
Total for March - 50.40 miles
Goal for March - 70 miles
Miles to Go - 19.60 miles
Miles for the week (March 15 - 21) - 12.43 miles with 7.57 miles to go
Today's 5K went so well! So much better than I anticipated.
Fairly small and they started people in 15 minute waves from 7 AM - 9 AM. Everyone was great with distancing and it was nice to get a small piece of normal back in my life.
March 20 - 3.11 miles
Total for March - 53.51 miles
Goal for March - 70 miles
Miles to Go - 16.49 miles
Miles for the week (March 15 - March 21) - 15.54 miles with 4.46 miles to go.
Easy long run today - Finally over 6 miles for the first time in over a year.
March 21 - 6.51 miles
Total for March - 60.02 miles
Goal for March - 70 miles
Miles to go - 9.98 miles
Miles for the week (March 15 - March 21) - 22.05 miles - Goal was 20 miles, so goal met!
A really nice run this morning to start the day. I took one of my more challenging routes that just seems to be all uphill after mile 3.
March 23 - 5.26 miles
Total for March - 65.28 miles
Goal for March - 70 miles
Miles to go - 4.72 miles
Mileage goal for the week-(March 22 - March 28) - 25 miles - 19.74 miles to go
Rough 4 miles today, but got it done. Really wanted 5 total because I'd surpass 70 for the month, but just couldn't get it done.
March 24 - 4 miles
Total for March - 69.28 miles
Goal for March - 70 miles
Miles to go - .72 miles
Mileage goal for the week - (March 22 - March 28) - 25 miles - 15.74 miles to go.
Yesterday's lunch run was so much better than Wednesday. We'll see how tomorrow's run goes, I just got my first COVID vaccine dose yesterday.
March 25 - 4.38 miles
Total for March - 73.66 miles
Goal for March - 70 miles

Thanks for the Syracuse hospitality @katharmonic!5 -
@katharmonic I look forward to running around those lakes when we get there. That does look like a beautiful place to run. I think I saw some ice still hanging on though. Enjoy your hiking weekend! Oh, congrats on becoming a local legend on your run yesterday! That's great!
@Faebert Thank you. I hope things become less stressful for you soon. Sorry you are still feeling the affects from CoVID. You have a great attitude about it, and are doing great to do what you can right now.

Cloudy, mid 50s F, with a 30 to 40 mph wind gusting to 50 mph. Had no desire to go to either Oz or Kansas, so ran on the treadmill.
When you pop in here claiming your December 2021 mileage, what accomplishments will you have made?
PUT THE FUN BACK IN THE RUN!
Return to a good running weight of 175 lbs (second attempt)6 -
Love the pictures @katharmonic, hard to believe that is New York. Looks like a great place to run and live. Enjoy your weekend hiking!
@Faebertt glad you are still out there running. Sorry it is taking so long to get over, but you are doing great!
Good luck on your race @Avidkeo
@nickseger I have wanted to try plated shoes for a while now, just can't bring myself to paying the $200+, but from everything I am reading, they could make a noticeable difference on speed and race days.
6.2 miles for me this (late) morning. Woke up about 2 hours late! Took it easy today, trying to just go by feel instead of worrying about the time on the watch.
5 -
@quilteryoyo -- I have only run the AF Half once, I paced it in 2019 and will be pacing the 2:00 half again this year! It's an awesome race. There's a cool flyover and fireworks at the beginning. Good but tough course -- a nice 1/2 mile or so hill waiting for you around mile 9! It's also typically hot, sometimes very hot -- the race was black flagged a few years ago! I've done many half marathons and I'd say it's in my top 5 for sure.
@rheddmobile -- I've run in them once and they didn't seem too narrow for me. They are slightly less stable than your normal running shoe (I also run in Ride 13s and GT-2000s) and I can't compare to the Next% (or whatever they are called now), but they do seem wider than those. I get what the lady was saying, though. When I first walked with these on I found them incredibly comfortable, and then putting my old shoes back on (even just to walk around) seemed terrible. I think they would be great for walking, but as you point out, probably not worth the cost for that!3 -
@Scott6255 So far the shoes feel great and I have no doubt they make me more efficient than when I wear regular shoes. They are also "rockers", they have a nice roll to them. The Saucony Shift also have this feature, but without the carbon fiber. Those go for $140 I believe. I'll let you know how the race goes and give some more feedback after that test.2
-
Thanks for the feedback @nickseger ! I'd like to be able to say I would be in your group, but I'll be about an hour behind you, if I decide to run it.2

Yeah! Went over my mileage goal for the month already! Since I have been having issues with my HR being higher than I think it should be, I decided to run today by zones, not by feel. I kept a close eye on my watch, especially if I felt like I was beginning to breath really hard, and tried to keep my HR below 164 bpm - in the aerobic zone. I slowed down if it got higher - or walked, if needed. It was much easier today - of course, running out the road instead of driveway laps made it easier too. I averaged 12:43 min/mile. I'm happy with that for now.7 -
Afternoon everyone.
This morning was a 17k long run. I didn't set the alarm, deciding to just allow myself to wake naturally and go out when I woke. So of course I was awake at 6am. That's fine, I'd had a great sleep.
Got up, ate my usual pre-long run/race breakfast and decided to run along the water since that's most like what I will be doing for the HM.
It was an absolute stunning sunrise, and I got these pics before starting.
I walked for a couple of hundred metres as a warm up, the. Got started. The first 2-3 was, as usual, the hardest, and I soon settled into a good rhythm. At about 7k I bumped into the local Parkrun group, it was sad to not be running with them but good to see them. I turned around a little short of the Parkrun turnaround point.
I really enjoyed this run. And some good news, no pain in my hips today. I was doing a few Kms where I was concentrating on making sure my glutes etc were working properly. I think the stretches I've been doing has helped a LOT. Will see over the next few days.
I also ended up with negative splits! Not perfect ones, but the last 8ks were definitely on average faster than the first.
So feeling good about the upcoming half!
After that I took miss 4 out fishing. She's been asking to go fishing for a week so we went to local kids warf. We didn't catch anything but she got to see a lot of small fish near the surface eating the bait. We had a wonderful time together.11 -

It was perfect running weather this morning for a nice 5.5 mile run. The sky was clear and the stars were pretty. The moon was almost but not quite full. It was about 50°F. There was some wind, but not too bad. It was an uneventful run, but a good one.

My quad has been acting up, so I finished off my 40k for the week with exactly 10k today, which was further than I should've done, but I'm now in recovery mode and plan to take next week as a cutback week. I tried to focus on form while running, and it's currently "ok", but still kind of feels like it's on the edge of being an injury. I'm reminding myself that it's better to be safe and take time off now, than to be forced to take even more time off later.
Oh! But Spring is here!!! Butterflies, birds singing, and I wore shorts and a tank top today!!! I have so much to do in the yard, not sure what all I'm even dealing with out there, and not sure where to start. Probably trimming what I know are rose bushes before they start sending out green stuff. I know that's probably a Fall thing to do, but no one did and I've done it before in early Spring without any problems.
Happy Running Everyone!6 -
@Avidkeo Stunning sunrise! Glad you had an enjoyable run with no hip pain! Fishing with Miss 4 - so much fun!
Nice running @kgirlhart!
@polskagirl01 Smart to take the time off now rather than being forced to later. I hope the rest is all that your quads need. Good luck with the yard work. There's always something to do.2 -

Partly cloudy, mid 40s F, with a light wind that managed to blow in my face no matter what direction I was going. Post-treadmill runs are always hard for me; today was no exception.
@Avidkeo Miss 4 now knows that fishing is "fishing." If it were about what we pulled out of the water, we'd call it "catching."
When you pop in here claiming your December 2021 mileage, what accomplishments will you have made?
PUT THE FUN BACK IN THE RUN!
