@WhatMeRunning Hahaha I wish I had known sooner. I would have definitely visited the puppies. I guess looking at pictures will have to do.
@RunsOnEspresso I hope the weather cools down again and you have the conditions you want for the race.
@Avidkeo Wow! Running with an achy tooth and calling it easy! You're in beast mode. Hope you were able to get the tooth pulled today.
@polskagirl01 Sorry none of the other women showed for your run. Hope your quad is okay.3 -

I was "scheduled" for a run today, but my left hamstring was a little tight/sore from the yardwork yesterday. I decided to not overstress it, and opted to walk instead. It was 66°F and breezy, so felt a little cooler than it should have.
Saw some wee spring flowers and blooming trees while out and about.
It was cloudy today and this Bradford Pear was a pop of color against the grey and green background.
No idea what this one is....it's not in my field guide.
I'm pretty sure this one is a violet.9 -

I typed a whole post and then lost it. 😠 I guess I am tired and need to go to sleep . But I did run 2 miles yesterday and 5.4 miles today. The weather was a little windy, but mostly nice. I saw a fox this morning which was cool and I reached my March goal. I will try to get caught up on the thread tomorrow.

Little bit of a trail run yesterday on the gravel trails across the river. Park service has dumped a bunch of sand on the trails, which is probably fine for the horseback riders but is really obnoxious to run on!
We saw just hordes of deer, dozens of them. And the weather was so nice that the handful of people we passed all yelled out, “oh gosh isn’t the weather glorious?” or something similar, instead of hello.
@quilteryoyo I love tiny spring flowers! When I had a camera with a good macro lens I used to make tiny bouquets and photograph them.5 -

Early morning video meeting where I actually have to be in dress clothes with make-up slapped on and hair done means I started my run at 5:30 this morning instead of 6:00 (or later). It was so still and quiet out. No stars in the sky because of cloud cover but it was a nice warm 56F so very pleasant.

6.3 miles this morning. Not a bad, considering I got my 1st vaccine shot just 12 hours ago. Don't really feel any different, just normal aches and pains 😏

3/2 - 4 early morning miles that felt really awesome
Total for March - 4 miles
Goal for March - 70 miles
Miles to go - 66 miles
I have to say, even though I don't respond a lot, I do read and you all are such a positive, upbeat bunch and I love it. I love the motivation. I did the challenges 2 years ago, but then "The Year That Will Be Forgotten" happened.
So:
March 3 - 3.11 miles
March 4 - 3.11 miles
March 5 - Today will be some spin and strength
Total for March - 10.22 miles
Goal for March - 70 miles
Miles to go - 59.78 miles
My huge goal this year is to get my base back that I lost last year. Before 2020, I was averaging 1000+ mile years and last year, I barely got to 600. So, my base is shot.
I ran 5 miles today without walking and felt totally amazing the entire time. Super happy with how it went and I have no doubt that I'll get to my goals this year. March goal is to get up to 6 miles comfortably and I'm sure I can do it.
March 6 - 5 miles
Total for March - 15.22 miles
Goal for March - 70 miles
Miles to go - 54.78 miles
Donated blood on Saturday morning, so I kind of expected my Sunday run to be a bit rough. Ended up being a beautiful day and I was actually 20 seconds faster per mile than what I normally run. Perhaps the slight weight loss helped .
March 7 - 3.19 miles
March 8 - Spinning after work - No running today
Total for March - 18.41 miles
Goal for March - 70 miles
Miles to go - 51.59 miles
Well...it caught up to me. Today's run with rough, but I got through it. Was a beautiful morning and considering I almost didn't get out there, I'll take it as a win.
March 9 - 4.5 miles
Total for March - 22.91 miles
Goal for March - 70 miles
Miles to go - 47.09 miles
Get busy for one day and you miss so much!
I'll have my first in person race in over a year (it will be 444 days to be exact) on March 20 and I'm excited but nervous. Just trying to focus on what I can control. I signed up for the last start time, so hopefully won't be a busy course.
March 10 - 3.12 miles of speed work
March 12 - 3.11 miles - Just a good ol' 5K to start the day
Total for March - 29.14 miles
Goal for March - 70 miles
Miles to go - 40.86 miles
Quick update for the weekend...
March 13 - 5.57 miles
March 14 - 3.26 miles
Total for March - 37.97 miles
Goal for March - 70 miles
Miles to go - 32.03 miles
So I am adding a small weekly goal for this week...I'd like to run a total of 20 miles. I think I can do it.
March 15 - Spin and weights
March 16 - 3.11 miles and weights
Total for March - 41.08 miles
Goal for March - 70 miles
Miles to go - 28.92 miles
Miles for the week (March 15-March 21) - 3.11 miles with 16.89 miles to go
Leg work last night and speed work this morning = sore me....eeek.
March 17 - 4.07 miles
Total for March - 45.15 miles
Goal for March - 70 miles
Miles to go - 24.85 miles
Miles for the week (March 15-March 21) - 7.18 miles with 12.82 miles to go
First in person race in 444 days is tomorrow. Nervous, but excited to have this tiny bit of normal back in my life.
March 19 - 5.25 miles to start the day.
Total for March - 50.40 miles
Goal for March - 70 miles
Miles to Go - 19.60 miles
Miles for the week (March 15 - 21) - 12.43 miles with 7.57 miles to go
Today's 5K went so well! So much better than I anticipated.
Fairly small and they started people in 15 minute waves from 7 AM - 9 AM. Everyone was great with distancing and it was nice to get a small piece of normal back in my life.
March 20 - 3.11 miles
Total for March - 53.51 miles
Goal for March - 70 miles
Miles to Go - 16.49 miles
Miles for the week (March 15 - March 21) - 15.54 miles with 4.46 miles to go.
Easy long run today - Finally over 6 miles for the first time in over a year.
March 21 - 6.51 miles
Total for March - 60.02 miles
Goal for March - 70 miles
Miles to go - 9.98 miles
Miles for the week (March 15 - March 21) - 22.05 miles - Goal was 20 miles, so goal met!
A really nice run this morning to start the day. I took one of my more challenging routes that just seems to be all uphill after mile 3.
March 23 - 5.26 miles
Total for March - 65.28 miles
Goal for March - 70 miles
Miles to go - 4.72 miles
Mileage goal for the week-(March 22 - March 28) - 25 miles - 19.74 miles to go
Rough 4 miles today, but got it done. Really wanted 5 total because I'd surpass 70 for the month, but just couldn't get it done.
March 24 - 4 miles
Total for March - 69.28 miles
Goal for March - 70 miles
Miles to go - .72 miles
Mileage goal for the week - (March 22 - March 28) - 25 miles - 15.74 miles to go.5 -
Nice running @kgirlhart . I hate it when I have a post all ready and it disappears.
@rheddmobile Running in sand does lend a new dimension. Nice to see the deer and have such lovely weather. I'd love to see some of your tiny flower bouquets if you can find a couple to post.
@WhatMeRunning Hahaha.
Nice early run @Teresa502 ! It was 59 here this morning.
Nice run for you too @Scott6255 . I ran after my vaccine too, with no ill affects. Glad you are feeling well.

Mid 50s F today after a little light rain early this morning. A fresh breeze from the south scoured all the clouds out of the sky and it was sunny by the time I finished. The daffodils are starting to bloom; the forsythia are showing some yellow; and I heard killdeer and phoebes. Forgot to mention I heard peepers last week.
When you pop in here claiming your December 2021 mileage, what accomplishments will you have made?
PUT THE FUN BACK IN THE RUN!
Return to a good running weight of 175 lbs (second attempt)3 -
Morning all. Cross training day today so 25min bike, with a 10min HIIT and some yoga. I just get bored doing weights atm so thought some lower body HIIT might be a way of getting the same or similar benefit? Then I worry about overdoing it haha. It was only 10 mins so I don't think it's enough to really mess me up.
Tomorrow is 8k at race pace. I'm looking forward to that! It's completely dark in the morning atm. I had to put new batteries in my nox gear, it was getting a bit dim.
Tooth hasn't been fixed, I can't get into the dentist till Monday. Fortunately it's not giving me too much pain. Just some dull aches that's easily sorted with over the counter pain relief. I'm just doing salt rinces a few times a day to make sure it doesn't get any worse.7 -

@Tramboman Glad you are seeing/hearing so many signs of Spring.1 -
@quilteryoyo I wish I had your energy!!!!
Says the man who has run EVERY SINGLE DAY THIS MONTH!
...but slowly...
Faster you on the couch!
I ran a reasonable 6k in the forest this morning and even with all the hills, my quad seemed to like that. Rumor has it there's a wolf (or an entire murderous deranged pack, depending on who is talking) in the area, but I find that really hard to believe with all the people in those woods. I did carry a knife though and kept looking around... and saw absolutely nothing, other than a black squirrel (normally here they're reddish orange) and other people. Not even the slightest creepy feeling of something being there Since the quad is happy, I'll try to go back tomorrow for a little longer. And then wait for the press conference to see what new restrictions the government has for us...5 -
MissAtomicBomb238 wrote: »I see everyone running this morning and yesterday, like @scott6255 and @marisap2010 and @kgirlhart and all I can think is ouchhhhh.
How much time do y’all take off after a race? I feel pretty stagnant but I’m trying to avoid injury as I have a half marathon at the end of May.
I usually take 1-2 days truly off depending on how I feel then see from there. Around here, races tend to be on Saturday and Sunday is usually a rest day for me anyway, so I'll go walk on Monday then get back to by usual schedule on Wednesday. Most of the plans I have used haven't had anything longer than 3-4 miles per run for the first few runs after a race.
2 -
@kgirlhart . I hate it when that happens!
@rheddmobile Running in sand is hard! My calves usually hurt for a couple days if I do that.
Glad you're feeling well post-shot @Scott6255 . I also felt totally fine after my first dose and just a little fatigue after the 2nd. Not too bad.
@RunsOnEspresso I hope the weather cooperates for you. I am also not ready for the heat! My runs are about to get real short!!

3/12: 2.6 miles

Easy 4 miles before work today. It was really nice this morning and not too humid, which is unusual for us. I kept the pace pretty easy and just enjoyed it.
My family is doing a 10k trail race in a couple of weeks. My husband and daughter have been doing C25k and were supposed to get through most of a 10k plan prior to this race. They have not. They finished C25k this week and apparently my daughter spent half of the 5k acting like she was about to DIE. She was tired, and so hot, and thirsty, and any other little thing she could find to complain about. They are absolutely not prepared for this race so we will be run-walking, heavy on the walking. I'm gonna need my zen that morning.
I ran with her pretty regularly last year but as it warmed up she got so gripey that it was ruining my runs, so I told her to either stop complaining or don't come. She stopped running. Then, when race season starts up, she loves races and wants to do one so she is briefly motivated to train. She doesn't tolerate even the slightest discomfort well, so if the weather is good and she is dressed perfectly, and she had something to eat, and got a good night's sleep, and you time it juuust right, she will have a great run. If one thing is off, she just falls apart. I keep hoping running will teach her a little mental toughness, because ultimately that's her weakness. She's in really good physical shape, but she doesn't handle challenges well. So far, not getting any tougher and I'm sure after this race she will stop running again. We were hoping she would try out the cross country team to help her make friends moving into a new school and be a part of a school team. But I just don't see it happening. It's too bad because I think she would enjoy it if she gave it a shot.11 -
@martaindale I was just running with a friend today who was telling me about her young teen daughter's complaining about running - but she wants to run and she wants to run fast. But it's too hard! It sounds so very similar. It's great that you are trying to encourage her and teach her to push through and I hope her love of races and your help will get her there with running. Or maybe something else eventually that she loves.
Read through quickly, hope everyone is well. Sounds like some decent weather and good running going on. Sorry about the tooth @Avidkeo! Ouch!

I've been busy with work but got a run in yesterday and today. The weather has been very nice here this week although it rained today. It had stopped this afternoon and I felt chilly going out but quickly started feeling too warm. Never a perfect temp it seems.
I've been easing back into running with these two runs, taking it pretty slow, but it feels hard after the time off. My breathing feels all out of whack. I think I forgot how to do this! Good news though is that my back continues to improve and running isn't bothering it. Still doing PT this week and next at least. The best part of which is lying there with heat on my back at the beginning of the session to warm it up. I always ask if I can just stay there all day.7 -
@polskagirl01 Hahaha about the wolf (or pack thereof). I do hope you don't see any. Glad your quad is doing good. I've never seen a black squirrel in person. Most of ours are grey. Hope your new restrictions aren't too bad.
@martaindale It's good that DH and daughter finished C25K at least. Will your husband keep running if daughter doesn't?
@katharmonic Glad you are getting some runs in and your back isn't bothering you. Heat on a sore back is the best.

Did errands in town and took mom to the dentist this morning. I got home at 2 and went out to take Tippy for a walk into the field. I just strolled. Then, I did my exercise as laps on the driveway. It was hot today, well, considering what it has been. It was 78°F and sunny. It really did make a difference in how I felt, I think. My legs were okay today, but I was having trouble breathing and my HR was really high for the effort I felt like I was putting in. I even stopped a couple of times to rest and walked more. Could have been the heat. Could be that I was just tired today. Could be that I hadn't had enough to eat or drink before hand. Who knows. I started to complain in my head and then remembered that I am doing great. I am running....slower than @Tramboman 's drunken snail, but I'm running. And, I'm still supposed to be taking it easy. So, extra stops and walks are fine and just what the doctor ordered.8 -

Today I ran 5.5 miles. It was a nice morning and there were lots of stars out. It was kind of chilly, but not cold. It was really good running weather. It was a pretty uneventful run. Yesterday I saw a fox but today all I saw were cats. But I enjoyed the run.

Hazy sun, mid 40s F, and no wind to speak of today. We're under a high wind warning for tomorrow, with gusts over 60 mph expected. Might be a treadmill day. Thought I saw trout lilies peeking up through the leaf litter. Also got good news about both my golf leagues -- we're a go!!!
When you pop in here claiming your December 2021 mileage, what accomplishments will you have made?
PUT THE FUN BACK IN THE RUN!
Return to a good running weight of 175 lbs (second attempt)8 -

I hope so. He is actually one of the reasons I started running. When we met, he ran 6 miles a day 5-6 days a week. Never really training for anything but was very consistent. Over the years he has started and stopped a few times but really fell off the running wagon last year. I am hoping that even if he doesn't continue to train for a race or to build distance, he will at least re-establish the habit. We're not getting any younger, and I plan on being active as long as I absolutely can. It would be nice if he were able to do things with me.6 -
@quilteryoyo You are doing great! Drunken snail or no. The temp change is always hard on me too. My pace drops off dramatically. I am not built for endurance exercise in heat!
@katharmonic I'm glad your back is feeling better.2 -
I hope everyone is doing well and enjoying awesome spring weather like I have been in Dayton, Ohio!
Update: Holding steady at 191.4 lbs (down about 5 lbs). Had a great 10x400m workout Tuesday, with my fastest splits yet. I splurged on some Saucony Endorphin Pros that I'm going to use for the Carmel Half Marathon. They are awesome! I've never used fancy shoes before (have been running in Asics GT-2000 for years).
Running: 177.1/220 miles completed this month!
Have a great day and nice time running today!8 -
@quilteryoyo - You are doing amazing considering where you started from this time around!
@Tramboman - If you have any tempo intervals coming up, you could try running into the wind on the hard parts and with the wind on the easy. Only downside is you might get blown really far away from your starting point by the time it's all done. (I'm joking of course, unless you like the idea). Just to share a high wind story full of bad ideas, the only time I ran in winds anywhere near that hard was in severe weather with a tornado in my county and sirens going off, but the path wasn't bringing them near enough to me to really worry (according to my phone alerts). I was actually more worried with the hail than I was worried about the wind, and ran for about 1/4 mile with my hands over my head. A guy in a pickup stopped and offered me a ride home and looked at me like I was crazy for saying I was fine and only 2 miles from home. Typing that up and reading it all these years later is surreal.
@martaindale - I think a lot of people fell off every health related wagon last year. If you keep running and you all continue that event, I would imagine there is a very fair chance your husband will keep running for sure, if not find himself bitten hard by the running bug. If I had any advice for you and your daughter that you haven't already heard, I might actually be able to help with my own daughter.
@nickseger - Great to hear you are loving those shoes! Once you start using real running shoes, you'll never look back at other shoes again. Your feet take a real beating and treating them right will reward you. Before long you'll start splurging on fancy, special socks too.6 -
Morning all.
Well i have sore muscles from doing HIIT yesterday. I forgot how hard it can bee haha. And last night I was in call, only had one call out. Which was lucky because today was 8k at race pace. I admit, I wasn't sure I'd be able to keep up the pace the whole time, and thought I'd just see how it went.
I set my pacing up on my watch, and he added out. The sore muscles weren't an issue but energy was definitely lacking. My 8k track is reasonably undulating. My watch kept buzzing, first too fast, then too slow, then too fast haha. Of course all on track with the hills. Consequently I felt like my pace had to be all over the place.
I managed the whole 8k. The last km wasn't a struggle but I was glad to finish haha. When I looked at my splits, I was +/-10 seconds in my pace! With an average of 5:37 min/k!
Absolutely stoked with that. Now do I think i can do that for 21? Possible, if I eat well and am actually rested before the race sigh.9 -
@nickseger ohhh shoes are good. @WhatMeRunning is absolutely right. I started with basic sports socks and now have several pairs of technical running socks in both poly and merino (love merino) thanks to these guys. They are the best to keep feet comfortable and blister free. Been years since I even worried about that sort of thing.

@martaindale you must have a lot of patience. I would probably take off at the first complaint and let the kid run her own race.
Ran in the woods today, felt good. The new restrictions will close the track, but not the forest. That's good enough for me.
I picked up a little bit of trash here (next to parking spots) in a small bag a few weeks ago, then hung it on a bush. It has grown!!! Cleaning the forest is contagious!7
