Awesome effort @katharmonic, four laps has got to be hugely challenging mentally anyway without an injury to nurse as well. Congratulations. And I love the medals - so cute.
Great job @scott6255, things are looking up!
@quilteryoyo, you’re smashing your recovery. Well done.
@WhatMeRunning I can only imagine how tough your home life must be. Prioritizing sleep is an excellent idea.7 -
5 miles at 6am and 5 miles at 10 am for 10 total
One week until Yeti
50-some miles for the month8 -
Thanks @Scott6255 . Glad you had such a fantastic run today! A 2 hour HM is quick! (In my book anyway.)
@katharmonic Congratulations! You are faster injured than I ever have hopes to be. LOL You did great to hang in there and break through all of those mental barriers you encountered along the way. So glad your back didn't bother you. Love the bling. Also love those encouragers along the way.
Thanks @ContraryMaryMary !
Nice running @RunsOnEspresso ! You're going to do great on your Yeti. (This may be a stupid question, but I looked up Yeti races and there seem to be several. Which are you doing?)

@quilteryoyo I'm doing the yeti challenge, 5 miles every 4 hours for 24 hours6

I have to say, even though I don't respond a lot, I do read and you all are such a positive, upbeat bunch and I love it. I love the motivation. I did the challenges 2 years ago, but then "The Year That Will Be Forgotten" happened.
So:
March 3 - 3.11 miles
March 4 - 3.11 miles
March 5 - Today will be some spin and strength
Total for March - 10.22 miles
Goal for March - 70 miles
Miles to go - 59.78 miles
My huge goal this year is to get my base back that I lost last year. Before 2020, I was averaging 1000+ mile years and last year, I barely got to 600. So, my base is shot.
I ran 5 miles today without walking and felt totally amazing the entire time. Super happy with how it went and I have no doubt that I'll get to my goals this year. March goal is to get up to 6 miles comfortably and I'm sure I can do it.
March 6 - 5 miles
Total for March - 15.22 miles
Goal for March - 70 miles
Miles to go - 54.78 miles
Donated blood on Saturday morning, so I kind of expected my Sunday run to be a bit rough. Ended up being a beautiful day and I was actually 20 seconds faster per mile than what I normally run. Perhaps the slight weight loss helped .
March 7 - 3.19 miles
March 8 - Spinning after work - No running today
Total for March - 18.41 miles
Goal for March - 70 miles
Miles to go - 51.59 miles
Well...it caught up to me. Today's run with rough, but I got through it. Was a beautiful morning and considering I almost didn't get out there, I'll take it as a win.
March 9 - 4.5 miles
Total for March - 22.91 miles
Goal for March - 70 miles
Miles to go - 47.09 miles
Get busy for one day and you miss so much!
I'll have my first in person race in over a year (it will be 444 days to be exact) on March 20 and I'm excited but nervous. Just trying to focus on what I can control. I signed up for the last start time, so hopefully won't be a busy course.

Congrats @katharmonic! So glad you got to run it. I had to laugh at your reaction when your trainer passed you.
Congrats on your 5K @pfeiferlindsey!
6 -
Iwoo hoo @Scott6255 that's awesome!
@katharmonic congratulations and well done for doing that last loop, sounds like a lot of fun.1 -
It's Sunday and Hal scheduled a weird workout. I started with 4x 100m at prace pace, with 100m rest in between. Then a 10k run at 10k race pace, for a total of around 13.5k.
It was great, the second 100m was going up a reasonable hill. But then it was flat for a few km and I settled into a nice easy 5:35min/k pace. It was wonderful. At around 8k I hit another hill that went for about 0.5k, and I managed to keep my pace to around 6:15. It was HARD! I was so relieved to get to the top of that one. I ended with a 1km walk to cool down.
My overall pace was 6:10 min/k but the 10k portion was 5:48min/k. My pace has definitely improved over the last couple of weeks, or perhaps my confidence to go with those paces?? I feel confident atm in keeping that pace over 21k, especially on a flat course.
3 weeks today!

@pfeiferlindsey Glad you had such a good race.
@Teresa502 Cold mornings this time of year feel colder, but at least they don't last all day. Great run and Happy Birthday!
You are doing GREAT @Avidkeo !

March total: 46.80/62 miles
I was scheduled to run today, but I was really tired. After I laid down at noon for almost an hour, I opted for fast walking instead. I walked down to take care of the dog and puppies and to see mom (this was the second visit of the day for the dogs). The first mile - on the way down was at a 4.2 mph pace. Coming home, it was 3.9 mph.
Tonight, mom went with me to feed the dog and play with the puppies. Pictures below.
They are 2 weeks old today and are just opening their eyes.
Cute face.
Mom and one of the girls.
Me and the other three.
Last evening, I saw Tippy in the driveway, barking at something. I could tell there was something there that she wasn't sure of be the way she was tentatively wagging her tail. I took the leash to go get her and see what it was that she was afraid of. When I got far enough to see over the hill and see what it was, I had to laugh. It was the tree that I had rolled out of the driveway. From that angle, it does look like a land loving Nessie or some other monster. Don't you agree?
11 -
@katharmonic great job today! You killed it! 13.1 is always a kicker.
@pfeiferlindsey way to kick that 5k! That’s a weird race cause right when you get into a good stride, you’re done! I’m so bad a pacing those.
I had my first in person half today too. The first 3 miles were a lovely tail wind. 4-10 was an insane headwind. No aid stations, no bathrooms officially so I had to use a park potty off the path a couple hundred feed. 10-13.1 were fine. I was a little tired. Came in around 2:10.
So anyway,
Goals: take 2 weeks off, actually train appropriately, break 2:00.

I slept in this morning and then helped my husband plant a new rosebush before heading out for my run. It was a beautiful spring day. I probably waited a bit too long before running as it was 60°F when I went. But since it was just going to be a short run for the streak it wasn't too bad. I ran 2 miles at a speedy (for me) average pace of 9:13. I also had negative splits again today. It should be nice for my long run tomorrow. I'm hoping it won't be too windy.
@scott6255 Congrats on the 2 hour HM!
@katharmonic Way to tough it out and finish your HM!
@pfeiferlindsey Congrats on your 5K. It's always nice to do better than expected.
@missatomicbomb238 Congrats to you too on a great HM! It's nice to start seeing more in person races.
@quilteryoyo Those puppies are so cute. And that tree does look like Nessie. No wonder Tippy was confused.

11/6/21: Run For 57th AHC Half Marathon

Hope all of you racing today good luck!
@quilteryoyo you impress me every day!
The last thing I thought I would do today was run a sub 2 hour HM. So I was shocked when I hit the stop button that I was only 28 seconds over. Felt pretty good most of the way. Started getting a little hard about mile 10, but didn't have to do any walking today. Feet felt good the whole time, except for about mile 7, but it was mild, and only lasted a few minutes. So pretty successful day. Now to go replace the power steering pump on the truck 😐
Great job!!! You're coming back strong!3 -

Thanks for the birthday wishes @quilteryoyo! Those puppies are adorable! Hope your friends’ mom is doing better. Tippy is the best guard dog ever! 😊
Great training pace @Avidkeo!

@Scott6255 - Awesome time on your run Saturday. Congrats!
@katharmonic - Congrats on pushing through successfully without hurting your back! Nice swag.
@pfeiferlindsey - Congrats on getting that first event of the year!
@Avidkeo - Sounds like a nice (in a tough way) workout from Hal!
@quilteryoyo - That puppy might be a necessary addition to help back your other pup against those paranormal water creatures!
@MissAtomicBomb238 - Fantastic HM time! I know for you it can be better, but I can always dream of being that fast. My PR is 2:19 from 5 years ago. Anywho, so glad you were able to do an in person event!
@Teresa502 - That is indeed excellent, and tough training! Hope your Grand Canyon event is spectacular!
No run from me this weekend. Looking forward to next week!4 -
It's Sunday and Hal scheduled a weird workout. I started with 4x 100m at prace pace, with 100m rest in between. Then a 10k run at 10k race pace, for a total of around 13.5k.

😂
It keeps telling me I need more anaerobic workouts. That would do it!3 -
Hal told me to rest, but garmin said 10 min run with 5min warmup/cool down at a slow pace. So went out for a slow 5k. Well i thought I was slow, my heart rate thought I was slow - average of 132, mostly zone 2 or zone 3. Definitely an easy recovery run.
I think im enjoying the cooler weather. It really helps haha.5 -
A few more pictures from Pedernales Falls State Park and Enchanted Rock. We hiked 2 days at each of these parks. We covered almost all of the trails in part or completely at Enchanted Rock but barely scratched the surface of Pedernales. It's such a big park! We'll definitely be going back again. In total, we hiked a little over 33 miles this week. And it got easier as the week went. I think we can officially say we are a hiking family!
Pedernales Falls State Park

I read through 100+ posts today to get caught back up. So many races these last couple of days!! Great job everyone.
Welcome/welcome back to those who joined this week.
I'll be back to running tomorrow!6 -
I just saw this picture my husband posted of me and my daughter at Enchanted Rock. She's 12 and juuust about to catch up to me in height. It's crazy to me that she's like small adult sized now!

@Teresa502 bleachers for 2 miles is some serious dedication. Yikes
@scott6255 great under2! That’s my goal. Under 2 before 38.
@WhatMeRunning yeah. It’s funny how our brains work. I keep thinking to yesterday “what if it were a more usual race with fuel stations and bathrooms? What if I hadn’t had to spot to fill a water bottle (or carry water at all!!!) or hop off course to go find a bathroom? My goal is under 2 but I’m happy.5 -
@katharmonic great race report and way to hang in there when things are tough!
Congrats to @pfeiferlindsey and @MissAtomicBomb238 on your races!
I've enjoyed the pictures, @martaindale!
I'm finally catching up here. Yesterday morning I drove to a nearby (35 minutes away) town for a canceled race that had been converted to a trash pickup challenge.
Recap in spoilerI had the route in my watch and when I found the start (right outside a buffalo zoo), there was no one around but a single car with the race organizer, who had garbage bags and gloves on a picnic table under a pavilion. He said I was the first person to show up. So I took a bag and some gloves, he took a picture, and I headed out on the 20k course. There was a covering of snow on the ground, which made it hard to see any trash, but it was kind of melting and at some point I started seeing things to pick up. The course was great, basically cross-country style with wooded trails, a little bit of road, across fields, dirt access roads around a lake, etc. It was scenic and super flat - nothing that I'd consider a "hill" at all. It was muddy in some spots, but not bad - there's definitely potential for a mud fest in multiple places. They apparently do this race 4 times a year, one for each season. This was supposed to be Spring, so they have a while to reschedule. I'm already registered for that but definitely plan to sign up for future races too (and got a 25% discount for the next one for participating today). My only issue was... the trash bag. Ugggh. The further I went, the fuller it got, and heavier, and bulkier and by the end I was so tired of running with it and switching hands, etc, that I was counting down until I could put it down and never pick it up again. It will be interesting to see what I can do time-wise on the course in a real race. Only question is: how long will it be before I bump up to the 30k option?
Pictures
I actually wrote and asked the organizer to send that "finish" photo with the trash bag because I knew he took one... and of course Messenger cut the quality so bad you can't actually see me, oh well. Maybe if you squint and use your imagination.
They said I was the first finisher on the 20k course, so I "won" - early bird gets a head start, I guess! My prize was same as everyone else - alcohol-free beer.
And that's my 40k for the week!

Just 5k on the railroad access road. Saw some pretty hawks, beautiful day for running.
@katharmonic way to tough it out! I hope you feel great for your hiking trip.
I’m behind on reading, hope to catch up later.4 -
@martaindale Great pictures. So glad you had a great week of hiking with the family! Love the picture of you and your 12 year old. One of my granddaughter's just turned 12 and it is hard to imagine her being "adult-like" already.
@polskagirl01 Great job on your 20K trash pick up, non-race. 1st place is awesome! That looks like a great place for an actual race.
