Sunday here =Rest day today. Going to do groceries and yoga.
Hope everyone's Saturday is going well!5 -
Thanks!
I'm half way through now. Feeling pretty good. Round 3 was 75° and it was difficult the last mile. Round 4 starts at 5 and is expected to be 79°. I plan to take some walk breaks.
Trying to get enough calories is hard. I'm not feeling hungry but making myself eat some lucky charms.

It has been storming on and off here all day, so treadmill walking it was. I did a ladder from 3.5 - 3.9 - 3.5 mph, with 5 min at each level. A little extra at the end to make 3.0 miles.
We had a little bit of hail in one of the storms this morning. Not too far away, the hail covered the ground. Glad we were only on the edge of this one.
Tippy watching the hail fall.
Hail on my walkway.
I did manage to walk to the mailbox during a break in the rain. Tippy started sniffing the wind and then tried to take off up the hill. I finally saw what she was trying to get to - a calf from the neighbor's field. It was well camouflaged. I just left it alone, knowing that mom will call it home when it's time for dinner.
Do you see it? I promise, this is the best picture I could get without climbing the hill, which I'm sure would have scared it away.7 -

The weather was perfect this morning. I was going to run a quick loop through the cemetery, but the wind from the south was too much so I turned and went west to the park. I just ran 2 miles today for my streak. I hope it will be nice again tomorrow for my long run. I did encounter a little dog today. He ran up and was snapping at my ankles. I just kicked at him and he ran home and he never bit me.
Way to go @RunsOnEspresso!

*So, my 2021 resolution is to hike/run all 193 (or 195 depending on your source) countries of the world this year. This could be difficult, since I don’t have a passport. But YouTube to the rescue! I have been using the site to take train “trips” recently, and have found them strangely motivating. Why not use Youtube vlogs to hike/run the world (and learn something about each country)?

Storms all day, fortunately got my run in yesterday when it was pretty. It was over 70 and my easy pace seems to be about 15 seconds slower at 70 degrees than 50. Normally easy pace for me is 10:52, like clockwork, yesterday it was 11:08. 10k on the Greenline, followed by a shorter than usual walk in the park itself since we got to the park 45 minutes late due to two traffic accidents causing complete gridlock. I swear we could have walked there faster, and since I can’t use the bathroom there now (closed due to Covid and too many people to use the woods) it made my run a little uncomfortable.
We did see a bunch of deer though, walking in the park right at dusk when people leave and the deer come out to feed. Soooooo many deer! We saw 5 separate herds of deer, numbering about 60 deer in total. At one point twelve deer went thundering across the trail right in front of us, jumped a hedge, and disappeared into the woods.7 -

Warmer temperatures definitely slow you down. And by a lot too: https://www.podiumrunner.com/training/how-much-does-heat-slow-your-race-pace/5 -
Well, I guess technically I'm an ultrarunner. 30 miles in 24 hours. Total run time 6 hours 9 minutes and 51 seconds. And about 3 hours and 45 minutes of sleep13

Light rain and mid 50s F, so I officially declared it a "Dreadmill Day." No "bad *kitten*" award for me. I got my hair cut on Friday, so I'm much more streamlined, but my head is cold.
When you pop in here claiming your December 2021 mileage, what accomplishments will you have made?
PUT THE FUN BACK IN THE RUN!
Return to a good running weight of 175 lbs (second attempt)8 -
@kgirlhart Hope the weather was nice for your long run this morning. I'm glad the little dog didn't bite you. The only time I've ever been bitten, it was a little yappy dog. They aren't my favorites because of that. LOL
@HonuNui Love the snorkeling pictures. Sorry about the leg cramps. I hope they are completely recovered from that. Was looking back at your list, sorry the 17th sucked. Hugs.
@rheddmobile Nice run and seeing so many deer must have been really cool. I love to see them jump. They are so graceful.
WTG @RunsOnEspresso ! That's impressive!
Hahaha @Tramboman ! I always think my weight should be down after a haircut, but it never is. Are you going to have to wear a hat for a few days?3 -
@Avidkeo, pretty pictures!
@HonuNui I’m so jealous of all of the beautiful marine life.
@rheddmobile That is a crazy amount of deer!
@RunsOnEspresso Great job!! You’re awesome!
It has been a pretty stressful week. I have an interview for the promotion position coming up, but I feel kind of guilty because if I get it and leave the prison where I work, it will just add to the growing issue of not having enough staff to get the job done. I know that it is a problem regardless of if I am there or not, but I would hate leaving people in a bad position. They are interviewing over three days though, so it appears there are a lot of applicants, so I may be stressing over nothing.
Yesterday was hot and insanely humid. After walking the dogs, I ran 3.1 miles, and I did a short Pilates video later in the day. This morning, I ran 4.1 miles. It was a bit cooler with a little bit of a breeze. Storms are rolling in later. I did see my first bunny of spring this morning. They will be out in droves soon.7 -
Congrats ultra runner @RunsOnEspresso !!! You have done something very few will ever do in their lifetimes.
3/17 - 1.67 mile 31 min easy effort
3/18 - .98 mile 15 min stamina effort
3/19 - 1.66 mile 30 min easy effort
3/22 - 1.67 mile 30 min easy effort
3/23 - 1.73 mile 30 min easy effort
3/24 - 1.31 mile 20 min stamina effort
3/25 - 1.75 mile 30 min easy effort
3/26 - 1.80 mile 30 min easy effort
3/28 - 3.45 mile 60 min easy effort
Pushed my time at easy effort this morning to 60 minutes, sort of a long run but feels weird calling it that. Training-wise it is providing that effect. Felt strong throughout and I am running noticably further before my high HR alert makes me walk again to keep things at a true easy effort. Will be curious to see how I perform tomorrow to find the true impact.
I had a great view of the setting full moon this morning. Also several coyotes crossed the trail in front of me near my turnaround point. They are tiny coyotes in this area and have never attacked people. I usually only hear them in the middle of the night whooping loudly when they catch something, or see them crossing a road at night. First time I've ever seen them while on foot.

3/2 - 4 early morning miles that felt really awesome
Total for March - 4 miles
Goal for March - 70 miles
Miles to go - 66 miles
I have to say, even though I don't respond a lot, I do read and you all are such a positive, upbeat bunch and I love it. I love the motivation. I did the challenges 2 years ago, but then "The Year That Will Be Forgotten" happened.
So:
March 3 - 3.11 miles
March 4 - 3.11 miles
March 5 - Today will be some spin and strength
Total for March - 10.22 miles
Goal for March - 70 miles
Miles to go - 59.78 miles
My huge goal this year is to get my base back that I lost last year. Before 2020, I was averaging 1000+ mile years and last year, I barely got to 600. So, my base is shot.
I ran 5 miles today without walking and felt totally amazing the entire time. Super happy with how it went and I have no doubt that I'll get to my goals this year. March goal is to get up to 6 miles comfortably and I'm sure I can do it.
March 6 - 5 miles
Total for March - 15.22 miles
Goal for March - 70 miles
Miles to go - 54.78 miles
Donated blood on Saturday morning, so I kind of expected my Sunday run to be a bit rough. Ended up being a beautiful day and I was actually 20 seconds faster per mile than what I normally run. Perhaps the slight weight loss helped .
March 7 - 3.19 miles
March 8 - Spinning after work - No running today
Total for March - 18.41 miles
Goal for March - 70 miles
Miles to go - 51.59 miles
Well...it caught up to me. Today's run with rough, but I got through it. Was a beautiful morning and considering I almost didn't get out there, I'll take it as a win.
March 9 - 4.5 miles
Total for March - 22.91 miles
Goal for March - 70 miles
Miles to go - 47.09 miles
Get busy for one day and you miss so much!
I'll have my first in person race in over a year (it will be 444 days to be exact) on March 20 and I'm excited but nervous. Just trying to focus on what I can control. I signed up for the last start time, so hopefully won't be a busy course.
March 10 - 3.12 miles of speed work
March 12 - 3.11 miles - Just a good ol' 5K to start the day
Total for March - 29.14 miles
Goal for March - 70 miles
Miles to go - 40.86 miles
Quick update for the weekend...
March 13 - 5.57 miles
March 14 - 3.26 miles
Total for March - 37.97 miles
Goal for March - 70 miles
Miles to go - 32.03 miles
So I am adding a small weekly goal for this week...I'd like to run a total of 20 miles. I think I can do it.

Total for March - 41.08 miles
Goal for March - 70 miles

March 19 - 5.25 miles to start the day.
Total for March - 50.40 miles
Goal for March - 70 miles
Miles to Go - 19.60 miles
Miles for the week (March 15 - 21) - 12.43 miles with 7.57 miles to go
Today's 5K went so well! So much better than I anticipated.
Fairly small and they started people in 15 minute waves from 7 AM - 9 AM. Everyone was great with distancing and it was nice to get a small piece of normal back in my life.
March 20 - 3.11 miles
Total for March - 53.51 miles

Mileage goal for the week-(March 22 - March 28) - 25 miles - 19.74 miles to go

Miles to go - .72 miles
Mileage goal for the week - (March 22 - March 28) - 25 miles - 15.74 miles to go.
Yesterday's lunch run was so much better than Wednesday. We'll see how tomorrow's run goes, I just got my first COVID vaccine dose yesterday.

Way to go @RunsOnEspresso! Congrats on becoming an ultra-runner! You a a beast!
Good luck on your interview @marisap2010! I know it is stressful, but sending you calming and supportive thoughts!
@HonuNui beautiful pictures!
11 miles this morning. Was a pretty good run. Took it fairly slow for the first 7 miles, then did a fast(er) finish the last 4 miles. It's probably not a great idea to have my long runs be the fastest run of the week, but that's how most of them have been lately. Need to try to switch that up so weekday runs are faster, and my long runs are easy (slow).
Oh yay! Got my mileage goal today 😁
8 -
I hope everyone in the Southern US and their families and friends are safe from all the storms and tornadoes!
@kgirlhart - I am so glad that little dog didn't bite you and that you were able to kick him away!
@HonuNui - love the pictures and especially the crystal clear honu! Hope your legs are feeling better after the cramps!
@marisap2010 - good luck on your interview! I hope you get the promotion! I think you have to look at it from the perspective that they will likely have to get someone in to replace you - maybe even more than one person. You can't feel guilty for wanting to make career moves.
Yay @RunsOnEspresso!! Congratulations hope you are feeling great today and basking in your accomplishment!
I saw the PT (finally) last Thursday. She poked and prodded and essentially made me very sore... she sees areas to work on, of course. I suspected a left glute strength issue but she said neither glute is participating much and my hamstring is just fed up with having to do all the work. My hip flexibility is also not great so we will be working on that. I had planned on a couple of walk runs Friday and Saturday but they ended up being mostly walks with a few attempts at running. I am doing the 4 exercises she gave me plus core work and glute bridges that I was already doing. The gave me some modifications to the glute bridges to keep my hamstrings from getting involved and cramping and puts all the work on my glutes. When I looked at the 4 exercises done 3x for 30secs on each leg I thought t would be no big deal. Yikes, was I wrong. The clamshells especially are difficult and prove just how inflexible my hips are! I am allowed to run as long as it doesn't hurt at all, so no running through expecting it to loosen up. She doesn't want the inflammation to get to the point that it is difficult to get back down again.
I realized I haven't posted a mileage update in a while. I have been getting out somewhat regularly. It is hard to find motivation though when I want to do nothing more than just run and run and can't. Have to find that inner patience!

@RunsOnEspresso wooo hooo! Amazing congratulations!
@shanaber good to be working in those challenging areas. I'm tempted to get some PT for the some hip issues but at the moment seem to have addressed them with extra and more stretching so will hold off for a bit... I'll have a better idea in a couple of weeks.
@Tramboman and @quilteryoyo I always feel cheated after a big haircut to not lose weight. Lol.
Todays plans (currently kinda following 2 ish) were either 5k at around 6:10min/k or 45 mins at around 6:30min/k. I decided after 20 minutes to do 40 mins at 6:20 min/k. It was a wonderful run, a bit wet, perfect temperature, calm, and dark.
Wednesday Hal is suggesting 1hr Cross training, and garmin is suggesting some sprints. I'm gonna tick both off. This is the last week that I'll be chopping and changing between the plans. Next week is taper and carb load week ahead of HM. Then I'll follow garmin till the end of June. That's the big one. That's the one I'm aiming for a sub 2hr so the plan will have lots of speed work in it. I'm kinda gonna miss the old build up distance but I've got that in the bag now. Will be good to do a few months of something different.
Oh and @ContraryMaryMary I signed up for Auckland HM in October. Will I see you in 2 weeks? We need to make a plan to meet up.

Couldn't have planned that better if I tried. My run yesterday perfectly met my monthly goal!
The run was my first real hint of summer and my first sports bra run of the year. The actual temp was only 72F but the humidity was brutal and it felt closer to 80F. Knowing it would slow me down, I chose to run the trail in my neighborhood. It was recently mowed for the spring and the tractor left some big ruts so you really have to watch your step. It kept me slow and distracted me from the physical discomfort of the heat and massive temp swing between runs.
Of course it was in the 50s and cloudy with fairly low humidity this morning on my rest/cooking day.6 -
@kgirlhart The little dogs always make me more nervous. They are so much more unpredictable.
@HonuNui Love the snorkeling pics.
Wow @RunsOnEspresso ! That's so impressive!
@Tramboman You're streamlined for speed!

I had a really lovely 10 mile long run today. The weather was perfect in the 50's and sunny but too hot. There wasn't much wind starting out, but enough during the run to keep it from being too warm.
There was one dog that started to run out towards me, but his people were out in the yard with him and when the man hollered at him he turned right back around. I saw a woman from work out running. I rarely see anyone else running around here and never anyone I know. I also had a girl call out hi to me and then she asked how I was and said she'd see me next time. I guess I run by her house a lot, but I have never noticed her before. It was just a good day to run.
Congratulations @Runsonesspresso! That is awesome!
@honunui I always love your snorkeling pictures and those are amazing! I hope the leg cramps are better.
Thanks @quilteryoyo @shanaber and @saramartaindale I have only been bit once while running and it was a little yappy dog. I have only been bit by a dig twice in my life and both times it was a little dog. Most of the big dogs I have encountered just seem to want to come with me and a few of them have.
@shanaber I am glad the PT has said you can still run. I hope the exercises help and you'll soon be running again.
@marisap2010 Good luck on the job interview. Try not to feel guilty if you get it. And hooray for the bunny sighting. I haven't seen any yet this spring.
@scott6255 Congrats on the mileage goal!

I've been so impressed lately with the dogs and owners I've encountered in the forest. Even the off-leash dogs step off the trail and look up at their owner as I go by (waiting for a treat, I think). The owners see me coming and start whatever routine they have (step aside, verbal command to dog, sometimes reaching into a bag for the treat). They've all been big dogs.

Oh and @ContraryMaryMary I signed up for Auckland HM in October. Will I see you in 2 weeks? We need to make a plan to meet up.
Yay, Auckland half is a goodie. Looking forward to meeting you Sunday week, I aim to be at the start around 7am, either queuing for coffee or the loo! Do you still have my number? I have yours so will text you my whereabouts, otherwise I’ll see you at the finish line!8 -
Congratulations @RunsonEspresso!
Yesterday, I had hiking plans but due to the weather forecast we opted for trails closer to home (Bays Mountain). We only got in 4 miles before the thunder started rolling in. By the time we got to our cars, it was windy, raining and hailing (as @quilteryoyo's picture showed). It stormed the rest of the day and all night last night and into the morning today. It finally stopped this afternoon. I thought about the treadmill this morning but opted for a cardio video followed by a nice stretch afterwards. So no running for me this weekend which is the first in as long as I can remember! @Scott6266 - you are definitely well ahead of me on the challenge now!3 -
@marisap2010 Good luck on your interview. You are a good person to feel bad about leaving your co-workers short handed. However, you need to do what is best for you and try not to feel guilty about it. Great running.
@WhatMeRunning Nice run. The sound of coyote's scares me, esp. if they are close. I don't know that anyone has ever been attacked by them here, but they aren't small and could do damage if they chose.
@Scott6255 Sounds like a great run today. Congratulations on surpassing your month's goal!
@shanaber You are doing great....even if you aren't running much. Right now, it's all about getting better so you can run later. You're doing what you can do and I applaud you for that.
@Avidkeo ! You're doing great!
@martaindale Yeah for exactly meeting your goal today! That never happens. These Spring temperature swings are brutal.
@kgirlhart Nice run and good to have nice people notice and encourage you along the way. Glad the dog listened to it's owners and wasn't an issue.
@Teresa502 Glad you didn't get caught out in the storms.

It was still wet and rainy, and I wasn't in the mood for a run today, so opted for a treadmill walk. Today's ladder was 3.6 - 4.0 - 3.5 mph - 5 minutes per level. Today's entertainment was Shrek 2. Those movies are so fun.8 -

Are you going to have to wear a hat for a few days?
I always wear a hat outside. Now I don't need to wear one inside to keep my hair out of my eyes.8 -
