I’ve been reading ... finally caught up. Trying to get back on track with my eating. Some days are good ... some days not so much. Just taking it one day at a time.

When I look out the window, it is so beautiful but once outside, the wind is blowing and it's icy cold. I skipped weeding this afternoon in favor of answering some emails. For lunch today we had the bbq pulled chicken that Jake made yesterday. Yummy. It feels like spring when we watch baseball on TV.

Well lawn gal charges $50 per hour, so husband and I carried all the branches to the front yard. It will be cheaper, but I sent pic of it to lawn gal so she would know its not going to be $200 ( that was my max amount to spend). All they have to do is pick up large pile and one pile in the backyard.

Daylight - I’m torn between loving it in the evenings and in the mornings. I like it in the morning, because I lean toward being a morning person. I love the stillness of mornings. However, I also like going out with the mister for dinner and drinks when it’s nice and sunny outside and being able to stay without noticing the time. I hate just watching TV in the evenings. It bores me.
Tina in CA
We usually turn the TV on in the evenings, but often we'll go for a walk or bicycle ride instead of sitting and watching something. Even when we don't do that, I'm up and down and in and out all evening doing housework, playing with the kitty in the yard, looking at something in the garden. All summer long, our front door is wide open for 2 or 3 hours in the evening and the yard is like another room.
Then comes The Darkness. The streets here aren't well lit so walking and cycling are challenging. Our yard is on a slope and so many levels which is all right when we can see what we're doing but in the dark, it's challenging. We have added lights outside but there's only so much we can do. And we can't leave the door open because the mossies get in. Essentially we're stuck in the house in the evenings for 6 months.
Fun fact : Tasmania sits on the 42 parallel south ... that's about the equivalent of the border between Oregon and California or the border between New York and Pennsylvania

All right, more Getting To Know You ... All About Music
You don't have to answer all of these ... just the ones that interest you.
What would you sing at Karaoke night? Or what types of songs do you know all/most of the lyrics of?
What two radio stations (genres) do you listen to in the car (or at home or at work) the most?
If you could join any past or current music group which would you want to join?
Do you play any musical instruments? Even just a little bit?
Do you take music lessons right now? If not, have you in the past and what type?
If you had to select a music profession, what would it be and why?
Music!
I joke that one of my "superpowers" is knowing lyrics. I keep astounding people by hearing the snippet of a random song on a TV show, and then singing it. There used to be a game show on TV where people had to guess the lyrics of the next line of a song and I did quite well, sitting in the comfort of my home.
I enjoy a huge variety of music. My style is "eclectic". But the songs I probably know the best are hymns and Christmas songs ... and 50s pop.
The radio stations I listen to are "classical" ABC ClassicFM and anything I can tune into with 50s to 80s music. Around here, that's not easy because there aren't many radio stations.
Music groups and music professions ... I would have to work in the background. Arranging the events, sound mixing, stuff like that. Maybe media and photography? Although I know lyrics, I don't think I can sing.
I have taken lessons for Piano and got up to Grade 3 in the Royal Conservatory program. I would like to get a keyboard and play again, but just for myself. I also do not like recitals.
I did recorder in school like most children and then relearned it during my Bachelor of Education.

"Get to do"s and "chose well"sChose well: made two 15 min line dance playlists and danced one of ‘em twice, 15 min decluttering keyboard, down to one small pile.
Bonus: learned how to scan multiple pages into 1 file, scanned Joe’s Cigna permission, ordered Passover gifts for M, listened in on Joe’s phone appt, marched in place while watching videos, tiktoks, and listening to sea shanties.
Get to do: take BP, dogs to powerline, call D re: sticky keyboard, Norton and windows updates, call S, fire district: input 2019 call sheets into NFIRS, work with chief on equipment letter, substance abuse policy, NFIRS mutual aid and other missing details, call Credit union re: credit card, ask for boots donator contact info, appreciation letter or certificate to boots donator, index mutual aid files; FM Cu, watch STAS Day 20, make experimental almond paste, declutter sideboard, practice new dances (Do Your Thing, Pure Movies to Wine, Beer, Whiskey, I ain’t never gonna love nobody but Cornell Crawford (Alley cat), A Little Less Broken, One Margarita, I’m so used to being broke, All Night, Nothing but You, Blame it on my beating heart, Homesick); finish mulching flowerbed, invest another 10 minutes in prepping living trust, Freddie’s for complete series TDAP <$48, get Shingrix vaccine, find and configure a screen time popup, figure out where to plant the last of the naked lady bulbs, and soon as it warms up above 50 and dries out below 60% humidity I’ll tape and spray paint those rusted areas of Aunt Elsie’s stove. Reconcile Joe’s EOB’s Thrivent shows only 2263.48 so far, next BGBS ask Terry about GB’s FD firetruck tax levy – contacts, media, advocate???, Reward: inventory seeds, plan this spring’s garden, wishlist replenishments, First week in April: call Wild Rivers (541 247 3514) for dog wash/nail trim appointments.
Mindful March:
21: Listen to a piece of music without doing anything else: Nope, walked in place.
22: Walk a different route today and see what you notice: tomorrow with T.
Kylia “original 1800’s home” wow!
Kelly what you said about morning vs evening light that would be my ‘druthers.

Machka thanks for the music questions. I’ve recently been thinking of dipping my toes back in.
-What would you sing at Karaoke night? Nothing, I’d empty the bar.
-Or what types of songs do you know all/most of the lyrics of? Know all the verses of the Cal Drinking Song, Camelot and other show tunes, some trad and ‘60s folk songs, all Jefferson Airplane, a few 70’s and 80’s rock, many hymns. Alas, I now realize that while I love to sing, I wouldn’t want to have to hear me
-What two radio stations (genres) do you listen to in the car (or at home or at work) the most? Classic rock, classical.
-If you could join any past or current music group which would you want to join? Hmm, not the Airplane, maybe Steeleye Span, Grateful Dead or Hot Tuna, or perhaps the Boston Pops or an early music consort.
-Do you play any musical instruments? Even just a little bit? I used to be a tad musical, played guitar, sang in church choir, even toyed with composing simple folkish tunes. Don’t know why I stopped but might have something to do with working full time Now that I’m retired, and facing another lockdown, here’s my chance to dig out the guitar and toy with the keyboard that gets so cluttered.
-Do you take music lessons right now? If not, have you in the past and what type? Piano lessons from kindergarten through high school, but more a duty than a pleasure. Grateful for the foundation, not my fave. One summer of clarinet. :noway:
-If you had to select a music profession, what would it be and why? In another life I’d like to have been a conductor, best “seat” in the house.
Barbie that restaurant’s Mask Surcharge Sign made me laugh loud enough to wake Joe! Thanks for reminding me that there HAS been music these past decade, it was line dance!
Allie why do you “have to get out of the (nap) habit”? Like your music choices. Fingers Xd for the disability interview.
Katla hmm, vacuuming when restless, now there’s a concept I could use!
Rita we received the economic impact payment directly deposited into our checking account on March 17. You can check for your schedule here : https://www.irs.gov/coronavirus/get-my-payment

Annie I feel that Joe and I have grown older this winter too. Partly pandemic, partly weather, just seem to be slowing down.
Michele shame on that guy for yelling at you. Good for you for letting it go out the other ear. While I feel we need to listen to each other to begin to bridge our chasms, yelling has no place in polite society.

Other radio station is just sort of the same thing, but from 60s until now..
I love James Taylor ,favorite artist but if i had to pick a band it would be the. Eagles..
Had a few lessons on piano when i was younger and tried guitar played trumpet my senior year of high school

Good Tuesday!
Yesterday was the longest week! Productive but long feeling!
Karaoke- YES! Favorites were These boots are made for walking, Angie baby, The night the lights went out in Georgia, Half breed. I use to enjoy it, husband never has. I haven't even been to a bar since 2002. Never was much of a drinker but enjoyed karaoke and dancing.
Lyrics- 60-90's pop and country. I tend to pick up lyrics quickly. Love musicals.
Radio- Country or 70's in car. Classic rock at work 70-90's.
I don't think I ever wanted to be part of a band/group, but always have loved Styx, Eagles, Cher, Reba. I would love to hang with any of them.
Musical instruments- I played the accordion from 2-5th grade. It was white marble type and bigger than me! I did win a blue ribbon at the Ohio State fair playing. According led to piano, dabbled with guitar, took violin lessons for a year, tried flute but couldn't do it.
I never dreamed of being in the music business per se, but would have loved to have been a dancer.
Great questions! I sing along to the radio often at work. The customers havent run away😉 Often times it is a subconscious thing. Song cones on, I sing. It gets tricky when I am singing one song up front, go to the back and their station is different, so quick switch. Memories of playing piano and singing 60's songs at Grandma's house.
Better get this day going!
Welcomes!
HUGS!
THANKFUL!

You may have heard that there's massive flooding on the east coast of mainland Australia.
https://www.abc.net.au/news/2021-03-23/nsw-floods-live-blog-evacuation-warnings-hawkesbury-river/100022362
It's making it's way south and it all starts tonight. Wondering what on earth to wear to work tomorrow so that I don't get absolutely soaked.
We're also battening down the hatches at home.
"Weather Situation: A low-pressure system is expected to develop over the southeastern mainland today, then move close to the northeast Tasmanian coast during Wednesday, bringing strong winds and heavy rain to eastern Tasmania as it passes.
HEAVY RAINFALL, which may lead to FLASH FLOODING, is expected to develop across northeast Tasmania during Wednesday afternoon, then extend to the remainder of the east and southeast during Wednesday evening. The heavy rain is expected to contract to southeast Tasmania early Thursday then clear the state Thursday morning.
The parts of the warning area likely to be affected by HEAVY RAINFALL are the Furneaux Islands, Northeast, East Coast and Southeast.
Rainfall totals of 70 to 100mm are possible along the east coast from midday Wednesday afternoon through to midday Thursday, however much heavier falls are likely across the elevated areas in the east and northeast, with isolated falls in excess of 200mm possible. In the southeast (including Hobart), totals of 50 to 70mm are possible during the same period, with isolated falls above 100mm about elevated areas.
A Flood Watch has been issued for Furneaux Islands, North and North East, East Coastal, South East, Derwent and Huon catchments.
DAMAGING EAST to SOUTHEASTERLY WINDS, averaging 60 to 70 km/h with peak gusts of 90 to 100 km/h are possible along the east coast of Tasmania, including Furneaux Islands and Tasman Peninsula. The damaging winds are expected to develop during Wednesday then ease early Thursday.
VERY HEAVY SURF, which may lead to localised damage and coastal erosion, is possible along the east coast of Tasmania, including Furneaux Islands and Tasman Peninsula. The damaging surf is expected to develop during Wednesday then ease early Thursday.
Beach conditions in these areas could be dangerous and people should stay well away from the surf and surf exposed areas."

I'm still around and still catching up
I've lost track of days, we had no internet for a day and a half and it seems to have thrown me I missed my Zoom meeting with my friends on Friday, I completely forgot. We went on a lovely long dog walk on Friday and didn't get back until nearly 6pm so I think that was another reason I forgot about the Zoom meeting.
Saturday I spent a bit of time with my mum and on Sunday heard my dear sister in law was taken into hospital. I'm waiting for an update. She was very unwell and then had a stroke whilst she was at the hospital. Apparently she is in good spirits though and glad to be alive! Poor thing is already suffering from lung cancer so you can imagine how worried I was. I don't think she is out of the woods yet, but I'm glad she is in good spirits.
I've planted a few flowers in pots out in the garden, they certainly cheer the place up. I wish I was a better gardener though. Now the weather is getting better (no rain for a few days!) I might ask sons help to dig over part of the grass to make a border and plant some more flowers.
Well I'd better get some chores done, I'm waiting for a food delivery, most of it is mine, but some is for my mum so I'll be popping over later.
Take Care
Love

Kate UK - Are you still hoping your Spanish trip can go ahead, or have you given up on that? Lots of different noises from the government.
Just been to the dentist for temporary fillings to my teeth. One that fell out had been put in by them a couple of years ago, so they didn't charge me for that one.
Then did a quick scoot around a couple of food shops. Now just about to make lunch.
Our TV and radio is full of the "One year anniversary of first lockdown ". Oooouuufff! I think I've heard enough already. We switched over to ClassicFM.

Karaoke- I have never sung karaoke. If pressured I would probably do it; but not voluntarily. I know lyrics to a few show tunes, many songs from the 80s, and almost every Madonna song. lol
Radio stations: In the car, I seek out classic rock or alternative 80s. At home, I pull Youtube up on my computer and get a compilation of every song I have ever listened to. I have an eclectic taste in music that runs the gamut from classical to current. Absolutely will not find a single country song in there. Not my thing.
Music group would I want to join?: Hmmmm...I always thought it would be fun to play/sing with Joan Jett. So probably JJ and the Black Hearts or The Runaways.
Musical Instruments: I grew up in a musical family. Mom, dad, and brothers all played various stringed instruments (guitar, ukelele, mandolin. I taught myself some basic guitar chords and played a bit, then moved to piano and taught myself a few songs. I then took formal piano lessons (age 10) and hated every. single. minute. of it. Really didn't play anymore after that. I now have the piano that was at my parents house (the one I taught myself on) and have been contemplating teaching myself again.
A music profession: I would probably choose to sing. I am not horrible at it; but I would also want to play guitar (because it is portable) while I sing.
Machka- Stay safe during the winds and flooding! If I remember correctly, your property sits relatively high, yes?
Rebecca- The macarons look beautiful (I don't care for them, but they are pretty!) The flowery spring sign is very sweet as well! I think I will try some "nature" writing with the kids...
Heather- I admire your dedication to your language expansion! A couple of years ago, I was speaking with my daughter about Duolingo and she said she like Babble better. She said that Babble was a little more modern with their language/word choices. (But that was two years ago, everything could be different, now.)
Well...I have a steady stream of kids arriving. Happy Tuesday all! ttfn xoxoxo KJ (Kelly)1 -
Oh, another fun musical occupation would be singing for Disney movies. Having little kids listening. They are generally a very appreciative audience for any singer. But whenever I think of me singing a disney song, I imagine either Lily Tomlin's dream sequence in 9 to 5 (where she plays Snow White) or Fiona in Shrek (when she sings/shrieks so horribly that a bird explodes). Yeah, that could possibly be me.4

When I first started teaching line dance I wore a microphone over my head. It was great for going over the steps for the dances. I didn't realize until someone told me. that I was singing along as I danced. Now I have a handheld microphone so I can sing along and no one hears me.
I know the words to older Broadway show songs, 60's folk songs, and most of the songs we use for line dance.

Beth when my son died I knew many meant well and wanted to take my pain away. I was given books, plants, flowers, people's time, and cards... The book I found on my own was It is Okay to not be Okay. It was a story of a woman who lost her husband. It really spoke to me about loss of a love one. Most of the grief I have and continue to have makes sense only to me and that is okay. Grief is often swept under the carpet here and many expect you to move on and be okay. There is no right or wrong way to grieve.
What happened to your son and mine will never be okay. It is okay to not be okay. What you chose to do with your grief is your choice. I just want you to know I recognize your grief and honor whatever space you need.8 -
