Have a fun weekend visiting your kids @Scott6255 . At least you will be prepared. Do your kids run? Could you go for a run with them and accomplish both spending time with them and running at the same time?2

April 1 – 5.11 miles
It was a cool 35F (feel like 30F) for this morning’s run. At least the predicted snow flurries did not show up.
All Creatures Great and Small sounds like a fun book to read @Tramboman.
@quilteryoyo – I think with your running and walking base, plus all the cross training you do with yard work, trimming trees, wrestling kids at daycare, etc., you will be fine working up to 6 miles this month and then starting the HM plan.
Hope all goes well today @Faebert!
I like that you’re taking your running gear just in case @Scott6255 – wifey may “need” some quiet time after you are there and you will be prepared!

My goal is to run 100 miles this month. My half marathon was postponed AGAIN until October, but I've added a full marathon in November.10
-
200 mile minimum goal
4/1 13.23 miles

On Monday, I ran about 7 miles at a 9:07 pace- felt great. This would translate to just under a 4 hour marathon if I could hold on for 26.2 Just looked up qualifying for Boston, I need 3:55. Its possible I could do it, but I'm 5'6" and 170 (embarrassing to type that). At 130 or 140, I think I could do it, and less chance of injury. Maybe renewing a past goal that I'd shelved because it seemed impossible will help motivate me to lose the 20 pounds I've gain in the last 3 years and get me faster.9

4-1 7k slow
April Total: 7k
April Goal: 150k
Had about an inch of snow overnight, and it was low 30s with light snow and a brisk wind from the northwest this morning. The roads and the trail were clear. Robins weren't happy, though.
When you pop in here claiming your December 2021 mileage, what accomplishments will you have made?
PUT THE FUN BACK IN THE RUN!
Return to a good running weight of 175 lbs (second attempt)7 -
5.28 miles this morning. 33F. I ran this morning at the nearby lakefront park.
I enjoy seeing the sunrise but today it was cloudy.
@quilteryoyo
Thank you for your kind welcome.6 -

300 miles in a month is nothing for our lovely @AlphaHowls.

Happy hot cross bun day everyone.
No run for me today - rest day - so will practise carbo loading with the aforementioned buns!7 -

What do I do now?
I'm reading Fast 5k, do I want to focus on speed (when my shoulder heals so I can pump my arms lol)? Or do I think about a real ultra in January 2022 and focus this year getting ready?
I don't want to do as many virtual races as I did last year. I don't mind a few but I went a bit nuts, especially towards the end of the year.
I'm debating virtual Boston now. Send help lol 😆
I forbid any Boston training. We can't lose you too.2 -

It's virtual. Totally ok.6 -
@ContraryMaryMary ohhh that's a good source of carbs. I shall partaken as well!
8k run for me this morning. Started off a bit heavy and got better. My diets been a bit carb heavy atm so at least running been easy even if the scales have stagnated lol. Given I'm running a HM next week with a time goal, I'm good with that.
Pass the rice please.7 -

Virtual is the only way I'll ever run Boston haha I'm not fast enough & I could never fund raise enough.
Started the month today. 2 miles. Legs were still heavy & tired.7 -
Started off the month with a 4.5 mile road/trail run, with 419 feet of elevation. I ran in my barefoot minimalist shoes as my knee has been hurting since getting new Mizuno trainers in January.
I don't know why, but a short run in minimalist shoes tends to sort out any aches/pains - perhaps I should do it more often? Going to go back to Saucony trainers and get a new pair as had no problems with them.8 -
Welcome @SavageMrsMoose ! I'm 5'6" and was up to 180 pounds. It took me 2 -3 years, but I am currently at 140 and have been around there for a year now. You can do it! Especially with all of that running you are doing.
@Avidkeo Carb loading is good. You are going to do great on your HM!
@sweetdaisy13 Nice run. I have to stick with the same shoes, or my knees kill me.2 -
Date Run Walk
4/1 0.00 2.25 - Treadmill
2.25/80 miles
Since I ran further than normal yesterday, a treadmill walk was the thing to do today. It was cold and windy here, so I didn't even get out to take Tippy a walk. She had to fend for herself. It was 42°F as a high. I know. I'm a wimp.
I did a ladder walk again....3.5 - 3.8 - 3.5 mph, 5 minutes at each level, plus a little at the end. I was really tired today, so I think that was about the right amount of activity.
Since I am able to run pretty much what I want now - or will be able to in a week or so, I will start only counting my running in our Run the World challenge. It's going to feel weird not seeing an entry every day, but I don't think I'm up to running every day.7 -
I got to see the puppies again today. They will be 4 weeks old on Saturday and growing like a weed. Starting to growl and puppy bark. Too cute!
This neighbor also bought 5 baby chickens that will lay green eggs. When they have enough, I get fresh eggs from them. So much better than those you buy in the store.9 -

April Goal: 100 Miles
4/1: 5.51 miles
5.51/100 miles completed for April
I'm in for 100 miles again for April.
I started the month out with a speedy 5.5 mile run. It was cold at 39°F this morning. I couldn't get going and finally got out the door at 5:30. I started out kind of quick and just kind of decided to try to hold that pace. I don't know if it was the cool weather or the fact that I was kind of running behind, but whatever it was I had a pretty speedy (for me) run.
@quilteryoyo Those puppies are adorable!
Welcome to all the newcomers!

Since my hamstring is on the mend (finally) I am in for 100 miles this month. Hopefully the weather here will cooperate and not be 90F day after day so early in spring!
Going back to a comment from last month - @SummerSkier the PM will eventually adjust to my requirements again, hopefully. It can go higher than 140 if my heart wants/needs to but it will not pace me above 140.
@quilteryoyo - oh those puppies!
@sweetdaisy13 - I run in minimal shoes all the time and they do fix all the niggles all the time!
@ContraryMaryMary - I may need to make some buns!
@Tramboman - James Harriott is one of my all time favorite authors!
@Scott6255 - I always take my running gear with me. It seems I can always find a moment for a run, even a short one and it ends up making hubby happy because it makes me happier. Hope the same is true fro your wifey.
You all are 'enjoying' cool to cold weather and here we are sitting at 90F! I am hoping it isn't a sign of what's to come for the summer when summer hits.
I did get out to run today. Had lots going on this morning so couldn't get out until late morning. Did a warmup with Hobbes the Vizsla. Took him home because it was too hot out for him and went out on my own then took him for my cool down because we had an estimator at the house. It was so hot and my legs were so tired and Hobbes is now totally wiped out.
Good news is I got 6.32 miles in today and ran most of it. My hamstring is very tired but is not terribly sore. The PT exercises are helping.9 -
4/1 - 1.87 mile 30 min easy effort
4/2 - 1.84 mile 30 min effort
April total/goal: 3.71/50
My HRM decided to read high in the 150's for the first half mile before starting to work right. I recall that annoying feature from time to time in the past. Even more annoying when that is over 25% of your total run. Oh well. This one could very well be too old at this point anyway, I may need a new one.4 -
4-1 7k slow
4-2 7k slooooooow
April Total: 14k

Sunny, upper 20s F, with a brisk west wind this morning. Since it snowed off and on most of yesterday, there was snow and ice on parts of the road and the running trail. Robins are still unhappy...
When you pop in here claiming your December 2021 mileage, what accomplishments will you have made?

Nice run @kgirlhart and @shanaber !
@WhatMeRunning Which HRM do you have? I wonder about the accuracy of my Garmin sometimes, but I just go with it. LOL
I was cold here this morning too, @Tramboman , but we didn't get any of the forecasted snow, that I saw. Good for you for getting out for a run. Poor robins. Hopefully they will be happy soon.3 -
Hello, friends!! Missed you all over the past week or so, and the end of March was not a good running time for me, so I'm happy to start fresh again with a new month. I read through and liked - good to see everyone and their goals for the month. Welcome to all of our new members. Looking forward to hearing from you!
@quilteryoyo thanks for sharing the puppies, always good for the heart and soul to see those little cuties. Love their sweet yawning faces. They look like big puppies for 4 weeks old! They are going to be large dogs!

OK, so after an 8-day non-running streak, and only 3 runs since March 14 I am back on the board with a run this morning. It was cold out there! We had snow on Thursday and it's been cold the last couple of days. Today is supposed to warm up but it was not there yet at only 26 degrees this morning. There was lots of black ice out there so we ran the trails around the lake as that was better than pavement. I was supposed to meet two other women and I was wishy washy about how long I'd run as they seemed to be shooting for a longer run. But then one backed out due to the cold and the other friend was more than happy to scale it back to a short run with me - as we both are feeling out our recovery from various aches and pains. I'm happy to report my back felt fine today! It was pretty sore again earlier this week after my weekend adventures but the PT has really helped to get it quickly back on track. Today is the best it has felt since I hurt it I think so I'm feeling good about it.
For April, my goals are to keep my back and all other parts healthy, get back to regular running, complete my monthly half marathon, and be warm! I'll say 100 miles for my mileage goal.

@katharmonic Glad you were able to run today and that your friend didn't mind a shorter distance.2

Separate post here for my hike report, which is technically from March but we're all over here now. I'll spoiler it so people can skip if not interested.Hike Report: Adirondacks High Peaks attempt --- and fail.
This was a weekend with a lot of ups and downs both literally elevation wise and emotionally. I'll keep it somewhat brief (not my strong point) and say that hiking with a group of 7 friends can sometimes be a little challenging and we tested some limits on this one.
The spoiler of the whole thing is that I did not get to summit a high peak, but I did summit a beautiful mountain on gorgeous day. It was not one of the 46 of my goal, but with a view like this, it was still very worth while
Slightly longer story is that we arrived to our AirBnB Friday evening and we unloaded the car. There were stone stairs outside the house going down from the driveway to the front entrance and as I carried stuff I stepped on one of the stones and it gave way and I fell down pretty hard onto my butt. This was not good on my already tender back. I alternated icing and heating it that night and took ibuprofen and muscle relaxants in hopes that it would be okay for the hike the next day - but this was not a great start.
We debated several different hikes because the conditions were not good. It had gotten really warm the last few week and had rained, so the trails in the mountains still had a lot of snow but it was soft and mushy and many water crossing were raging rivers because of snow melt. The recommendations we were seeing were not to hike this weekend because trails were bad. But of course we had come all this way so we wanted to give it a shot. We had a long discussion about how that might mean we had to give up and turn around if conditions were not good.
It was a beautiful day Saturday when we started. It was in the 20s to start but the sun was out and skies were blue. It started out well, I felt ok, the trail was ok, all was good. But then it started to get worse as we ascended because the snow conditions were very challenging. On the trail where everyone hikes it becomes very packed and hard in the center, but the edges get very soft and melt away, so it becomes what they call a "monorail" where you have to stay on that high hard center or you sink in the rotten snow. And even the centers were getting soft. So we were sinking in with almost every other step, and lots of falling when that happens unexpectedly. We did have snowshoes and that helped some but it was still hard to stay on top of the snow and it made it a very challenging trudge at best.
Along the way, part of our group decided that we should detour from our planned high peak to hit a peak called Indian Head, which is less than 4000 feet so doesn't count as a high peak. That's the view in the pic above from the summit. It's gorgeous and still made an excellent hike but because some of us didn't know we had decided on this detour, we had a bit of a dramatic group argument when it was discovered that we were off our planned trail. Things settled a little as we left that summit and headed back toward the trail to our intended peak, but conditions were getting worse and worse so several us started contemplating taking the upcoming fork to go back down instead of continuing on to the summit. As much as I wanted to get a high peak that day, I didn't feel the greatest and it was so hard under those conditions, that I decided to go with the group heading back down. We had another group argument at that junction and we ended up 5 of us going down, and 2 continuing on to the summit. It was still a long challenging hike to get down and I was glad that I made that choice because this particular day I didn't have it in me to battle those conditions. The mountain will be there next time and it's a gorgeous hike for a better day.
So we eventually got back to our car, picked up beer and pie, and headed back to our house to relax and enjoy the hot tub, drinks and food for the rest of the weekend. Our 2 friends eventually arrived back and things were a bit uneasy among the group but in the end we're all friends and we put it aside and had fun.
I'm a little disappointed that I'm still at 25/46 peaks after the last two trips over the winter didn't end up the way we planned. But it's okay, that means more trips and I'm ok with it. It's now officially mud season in the high peaks so they really don't allow hiking until it dries up because its hard on the trails, so I probably won't be back up there until May or June. That gives us all time to do some other things and get over our little drama.8
