I managed to get out for a walk during one of my virtual sessions, I just listened to the audio while I let Stella take her time sniffing along. Then I had a lunch break later so I squeezed in a run. It was so warm! Shorts and tank top for the first time this year!
Same thing tomorrow but I also have some other work commitments to try to wedge in there. Hopefully I can get a run in and beat the rain too.
I can't believe your snow @polskagirl01 , we're seeing 70s and it's going to be almost 80 here on Saturday. Pretty warm for April.
@martaindale so sorry to hear about that happening to a member of your running community. It's shocking to hear of. A good friend of mine who is the healthiest and most fit ever is going through a major and unexpected health scare right now and it's just so hard to believe. You never know, but of course his odds are much better being as healthy as he is.6 -
I just checked the Run The World group progress and we are in W. VA. It won't be long before you'll be passing by my house in TN. I guess I should have cleaned house in preparation for your visit instead of playing on the computer most of the day!11
-
I didn't run yesterday or today. My hip feels OK today, definitely better than yesterday. But I think I will give it another day of rest. I may take a walk tomorrow though.

Little bit of a run Thursday night - my husband and I got our 2nd Covid shots Tuesday, went for a long nature hike right after, and had planned to take Wednesday off since I had heard second shot side effects could be a doozy. Well, Wednesday came and went and apart from the sore arm I felt fine! (Husband felt fine except for being tired.) Then late Weds night, suddenly I felt nauseated, headache, chills, low grade fever, all the common symptoms. So I guess it just took a whole for the side effects to kick in. Lasted about three hours. Thursday, felt mostly fine but my tendons were weirdly achy so decided to take it easy. Night run, ran about two miles easy and walked 5.
I wish I could run Friday but we are supposed to have thunderstorms for the next two days, so it’s a lifting day and possibly another run late Saturday. Stupidly the three days I didn’t run were perfect running weather! Oh well! I have marked April 20th on my calendar as the date I will be fully vaccinated. Now I just gotta get back in shape and find a race!
@Avidkeo Best of luck on your half, you are ready for it!8 -
**Waves** Hi folks, sorry I'm awol, still too busy to keep up with myself let alone the forums!
But I have a question I don't feel comfortable asking elsewhere... sorry in advance to the men, this may be TMI for you! (So I'll put it in spoilers lol)Ok so I joined a trail running club, and so far it's just been me and 3 men. Doesn't bother me, I just kind of tag along behind them most of the time and they stop and wait for me to catch up every now and then.
But last night he had us warm up and then stop in a clearing to do 'technique exercises'.... skipping and jumping and running sideways and backwards and stuff.
WELL.... when it came to running with high knees, my pelvic floor went HA! you're in your 40s and have had a baby, let's leak! Really embarrassing, thank god I was wearing those double-layer shorts so I don't think it showed. Well, I hope not, anyway :-/
Soooo note to self, gonna need pads for group training sessions (ugh) but apart from the obvious kegel stuff, I wondered if anyone here knows any tricks?
Or maybe I'm just looking for empathy/sympathy, dunno.
I'm loving the trail group, if it doesn't kill me it'll make me badass AF, but I'm kinda hoping some more ladies and/or turtle-paced people start coming!
My legs are so, so tight though!10 -
@eleanorhawkins I can totally relate to what you wrote.
I've been running 4 years + and I'm my 40s with two children. My pelvic floor has never been the same since having children.
I've done kegel/pelvic floor exercises for years, which I think has made a slight difference, but I have found that there is only one 'trick' to prevent leakages... Reduce the amount of fluid I drink before a run.
If I run in the evening around 6pm, I'll stop drinking around 2pm. If I run in the mornings, I won't have a drink beforehand. Admittedly it's annoying, but I found that this is the only thing that works for me. I'm also lucky that I don't need to drink a lot whilst running, I only carry water/squash if doing a run longer than 10 miles and just take small sips as and when needed.
Glad you're enjoying trail running. The majority of my runs are done on trail/mountain as that is where I'm the happiest, love the scenery and the solitude.
7 -
@sweetdaisy13 ah, interesting, I hadn't thought about that. I'm used to running first thing in the morning when I've only had a coffee, whereas these group sessions are at 6 pm and I'd been drinking a lot all day!6
-
@eleanorhawkins I wear leakage underwear. Often sold with period underwear, it's the lightest version. They are great for any potential oopsie moments.
Also, use low impact modifications. Star jumps are a no-no for me. So I do a squat and side leg raise, then squat and side leg raise on the other side instead. Still a good warm up without the jumping.7 -
@eleanorhawkins that's exactly why I didn't continue going to that trampoline fitness class with friends a while back. Easier explaining that to friends though. I have no tricks. Maybe modify the exercise and if they ask, say something like "can't do that one, I've given birth". Maybe they'll just never bring it up ever again
I ran 10-something km today and felt fine. But now, afterwards, my back/hips/quad feel funny, so we'll see. I need to figure out what I'm doing. Also Spring is back, so the weather is figuring things out too.8 -
6.2 miles this morning. Legs felt unusually good this morning. No niggles after the first few steps. It was very strange. Not sure what I did between Wednesday and today, other than go really slow on Wednesday. Maybe it's as simple as that! With no leg pain, stride was able to be lengthened, so pace was about 1 min/mi. faster than Wednesday, with the same perceived effort.

quilteryoyo wrote: »@Teresa502 Glad you were able to go hiking and that your run was a good one. I don't know how you get up so early for a run. Where do you do the majority of your morning runs? I would have to run on the treadmill because there are no lights around here and my driveway would be dangerous in the dark.
Currently, I'm working in the office for 2 weeks and then I work at home for 2 weeks. We've been doing this rotation since last August but I think its coming to an end soon. When I'm working in the office, I meet one or two other girls and we run in Kingsport before work. We stick to the well lit streets and they all have sidewalks.
When I'm working at home, I run at my house which is in the country and no street lights or side walks exist. At first I was hesitant getting out there in the dark. Not only could the boogey man be lurking in the dark but so could skunks, coyotes and even a bear has been sighted in this area before. But, I decided to suck it up and just do it. I have a headlamp but I don't like it, so I bought an led light that I can clip on my waist and it lights the path pretty good. (@Scott6555 recommended it). I wear a reflective safety vest and clip the light onto the front of it. On the back I have a little blinking light in case a car comes up behind me. Most mornings I don't encounter any traffic. I also have a Nathan handheld flashlight that I sometimes carry. It has an alarm on it but frankly there probably isn't anyone out there that would hear it except me. I also carry pepper spray. I know these measures aren't foolproof but things can happen even in the safest areas. A lot mornings I get caught up on my prayer requests!
I have a treadmill but I prefer to take my chances outside. I'm just more of a morning person. If I have the day to think about it, I can come up with all kinds of excuses not to go.8 -

Cloudy, upper 50s F today, with a breeze from the south. Had some badly needed rain overnight that brought some worms and nightcrawlers onto the running path, but not enough that I could claim victory in the Earthworm 7k or the Nightcrawler 4 Mile Crawl. Caught some nice fish yesterday and intend to try to catch some more today. "When the wind is from the south it blows the hook in the fishes' mouth.
When you pop in here claiming your December 2021 mileage, what accomplishments will you have made?
PUT THE FUN BACK IN THE RUN!
Return to a good running weight of 175 lbs (second attempt)8 -

Same here. No problem in the mornings but after drinking all day things are a little more tricky. I gave up an evening bootcamp class because we were always doing jumping jacks and that was just too much.5 -
@rheddmobile Glad the side affects didn't last long and hope you are back to normal today. You say you need to get "back in shape." I think you are doing great already. Don't think that will take much effort on your part.
@eleanorhawkins Glad you are enjoying the trail group. I can sympathize, but have no words of wisdom for you. Sorry.
@polskagirl01 Sorry your body isn't quite back to normal. Glad you got in a nice run and spring is back!
Nice run @Scott6255 !
@WhatMeRunning Did you add that extra .07 mile on purpose?
@Teresa502 You are braver than I am. People drive like maniacs on my little country road. It's hard enough to stay safe in the daylight. I am glad you are taking all of those precautions. It doesn't hurt to be prepared. People may not hear the alarm, but it might scare off an animal. I wish I was a morning person. I can force it when I need to, but I don't like it.
@Tramboman Nice running. Enjoy your fishing trip. I had not heard that saying before. Hope it is true for you.
7 -
@quilteryoyo - Amazingly enough I actually managed to fit in that extra 0.07 miles this morning in the same 35 minute effort despite my legs feeling tired. I have a rest day tomorrow and I kept reminding my legs of that. I guess they were happy to hear that.7

Caught a half dozen today. The last fish I hooked broke the fly off, so I took that as a sign.
There's one for each direction:
When the wind is from the north,
It makes the fishermen go forth;
When the wind is from the east,
That's when the fishes bite the least;
When the wind is from the south,
It blows the hook in the fishs' mouth;
But when the wind is from the west,
It makes the fishes bite the best!
Not that I believe any of that mumbo jumbo...9 -

Kind of us to turn the weather in for you - it’s ghastly out there! Forecast is looking much better for tomorrow though so fingers crossed. It’s gonna be fun.
Enjoy your shopping!4 -
@Tramboman Glad you had a good fishing day. Pretty cool saying I may share with my nephew who fishes in bass tournaments all the time. I am curious now - which way was the wind blowing today?
@Avidkeo Glad you arrived safely. Have fun tonight and enjoy your race tomorrow. We're all pulling for you!

Mom and I went to town to do our shopping and she had a carotid ultrasound. We stopped for Wendy's burgers take out for dinner. I brought mine home and went out to do my run before eating it. I knew if I ate first, I probably would NOT run. It was pretty warm today - sunny and 81°F. I know it would have been cooler had I waited, but, like I said, I also knew if I sat down for too long, I wouldn't be able to motivate myself to get out the door.
Today was a Speed Play workout - basically speed intervals. I ran 10 minutes easy, then 5 x (1 min hard/2 min easy) and ended with a little over 5 minutes easy pace. The run felt better than yesterday's. My legs didn't feel like lead, at least. My hard runs were at an average of 10:07 min/mile. I did them fast, but not at a sprint. So, I'm happy with that at this point. My overall average pace was 12:26 min/mile (4.8 mph).9 -

South wind today.
Here in the northern hemisphere, an east wind often comes with a low pressure system and hence a falling barometer; a west wind usually comes with a high pressure system and a rising barometer.
I learned a long time ago that if the fish want to eat, they will, but if they don't want to eat, nothing I do can make them.
The key is I have yet to catch a trout while sitting in a recliner, while I occasionally catch them while fishing -- no matter which way the wind is blowing.8 -

Good morning! A lovely 55 degree sunny day for a long run meetup. My back was feeling a little twingey yesterday so combined with the busy day I decided not to run. This morning I wasn't sure if running was a good idea or not but I went out to see how it felt because it was a day not to pass up. Turned out that it felt better as I went, kind of loosened up I guess. I ended up doing 9 miles, which is definitely my longest in a few weeks.
Next week I have another HM in person race. I don't think I'll be up to really "racing" it. It's bound to be better than the last one though.7 -
I meant to do an easy 8k in the woods.
Met some running club friends as I started - they were finishing but joined me for about a little bit. I went easy enough that before I had even finished, I'd had the idea to do the 8k route I had saved to my watch (ended up as 9), then turn around, eat the apple I brought, and do the route again in the opposite direction. As that went on, I added a few detours and out-and-back segments until it totaled 21.2 - so my April HM is done and my streak is now 29 months.
Pictures, cause Spring is back again...Nothing in particular "hurts", just the same annoying niggles, but I've decided to work on strengthening my glutes and hamstrings for a few weeks and see if there's any improvement.
It's hard to see, but there are mountains in the distance in the picture going through the field
April Goal 169k
"40 weeks of 40K" - 20 Weeks DONE! Halfway there!!!7 -
