@Avidkeo Wow, you're training has been perfect. You'll do great in your race!!
@rheddmobile great haul on the running gear. Looks really nice.
6.5 miles this morning. 72F @ 4:30am + 39mph gusts = Mandatory Slow Day. It actually felt like a fairly easy day for a change.

I bought all new kit, running shorts, tank, and two bras. I was feeling blah about running and got a zulily ad for a sale on a bunch of official Brooks branded stuff and thought, why not, it’s been three years since I bought anything new to run in. All my old kit is Walmart and honestly, I love it, was bought on clearance then and my favorite running shorts were exactly one dollar! They have lasted three years so far and still look new, nothing wrong with them except I’m bored. So, the new stuff... I’m gonna call it “aspirational.” Meaning that wearing it makes me aspire to get in better shape. On the one hand I feel like I’m on some sort of elite track team wearing my matching gear. On the other hand, I feel like that character from a comedy movie that they dress in the elite gear to show how funny it looks on a normal person. Form-fitting, peach, and slightly silky tank tops are not flattering to bellies that used to weigh 125+ more pounds! However, if I stand up straight, it also makes me look like I have abs! Also the hot pink accent exactly matches the hot pink on my current shoes.
Gear looks great.
Just need to do something about those knee braces...2 -
4-1 7k slow
4-2 7k slooooooow
4-3 4k easy
4-4 7k slow
4-5 7k easy

Sunny, mid 50s F, and no wind to speak of. Ran much better than I usually do after a rest day. Must have been the dandelions I saw blooming. Now it's off to fish for trout!!!

4/2 - 1.84 mile 30 min easy effort
4/4 - 3.68 mile 60 min easy effort
4/5 - 2.22 mile 35 min easy effort
4/6 - 2.22 mile 35 min easy effort
4/7 - 1.68 mile 23 min stamina effort
April total/goal: 13.51/50
I really did not want to run this morning and the intermittent rain wasn't inspiring me to get out either. I could not afford to skip it though since today's run was a stamina effort workout. Not that I can afford skipping anything this early unless I feel fatigued (which I am not). I made myself go out anyway and now I feel freaking amazeballs (of course). It never ceases to surprise me how that works.
@skippygirlsmom - Oops! I read all that positive news and was almost ready to congratulate you on completing an ascent up Mt. Everest. I do get distracted easily. SQUIRREL!
@Avidkeo - Not only can you and your watch tell how charged up and ready to go you are, but it is also coming through in your posts. I can almost picture someone queued up in the starting chute barely able to contain such unbounded energy by bouncing around, cheering and screaming and maybe even gnashing on their bib to try and keep it under control just enough to crank out a better than expected result. I hope you have a great time!
@rheddmobile - Love the new gear. It can definitely help in the aspirational department exactly as you described. I'm going to borrow your reasoning when my new Brooks Glycerin 19 arrive today. My wife has been asking how long it will take me to use all my old running shoes since my mileage is so low compared to when I was buying them a few years ago. So I've been looking for some justification other than, "they're just too old".7 -
Late to the game as just rejoined MFP for round 2 but so far in April:
4/2--2.2m
4/3--2.4
4/4--2.5
4/5--1.83
4/6--3.1
Total so far not including today--12.0 m
Goal of 65 miles
And all this with a TKR (Total Left Knee Replacement) on 8/29/19!10 -
New to the group (aside from intro), so I'm excited to see that people track here weekly. I'm so impressed with everyone! Great work hitting the pavement with such great energy.
04/02 = 8 K
04/04 = 26 K
04/06 = 7 K
04/07 = 12.4 K
First week total = 53.4 of 200 K goal
Feeling positive and inspired. Thank you all!9 -
4/3 - 3.11
4/4 - 3.24
4/6 - 4.08
Walking miles: 10.43 of 50 miles
@WhatMeRunning ha ha I’ll do that ascent to Mt. Everest next week!!
6 -
It hasn't been a week and I'm bored with Hal again. Or maybe I'm bored with 2 mile runs. 🤣
I'm trying to read Hanson's Marathon Method and plan to use their Just Finish plan which means I'm with Hal or on my own until June.
2 miles today. 14 for the month and 299.6 for the year. 299.6! I should have went 2.4 today hahahaha7 -

Just need to do something about those knee braces...
Yeah, they don’t come in sporty colors! The ones that work best for me don’t even come in black.
There’s an older dude who runs the Greenline at about the same time of day I do, and also has twin knee braces. We commented about it to each other the first time we passed and now we are bad knee running buddies.
I have a badly valgus knee and “weird looking” (official report on my MRI) meniscus on one side due to an accident which dislocated my knee sideways, and the other knee has no acl at all, a Baker’s cyst, and can’t be repaired, so the braces are a permanent thing. At least I have no signs of osteoarthritis. The first doctor I went to about my knee said I should never run. He was a cyclist it turns out, never visit a cyclist for running advice. Second doctor was also the doctor for the college track teams, said the first doctor was being ridiculous!9 -
Is anyone else slightly offended when MFP exercise shows running as 'jogging' - I'm not fast, but 7:10/km shouldn't be classified as jogging. Jogging is what my mom did in the 80's. Vent over LOL
Keep truckin' all!9 -

Yes @rb3551, I thought it was strange when my 9.5 mile run last Friday showed in my diary as 'jogging' when I ran an average pace of 9:03 min per mile. But I tend to ignore the detail of the running data in MFP. I have MFP linked to Garmin Connect and my pace doesn't show correctly in MFP (it was showing 10 min per mile!) whereas my Garmin stats are correct.3 -
@rheddmobile I love the new gear!!! You look great.2
-
@rheddmobile - love the new gear! I always want to get something new but all my shorts and capris are still in great shape and I have had them for years. I would love some new shirts though. I only wear long sleeve now and I really would like to find something with a design or something rather than plain colors. I have one really old one I keep because it is splashes of different colors on a cream background.
@Avidkeo - you are SO Ready!! I do love @WhatMeRunning's description of you waiting to go in the corral! I can just picture you there, bouncing 😁
@WhatMeRunning - I think you just need to explain to your wife that running shoes dry out and lose their cushioning when they sit too long, therefore you need new ones!
Welcome - @juanwilly1 and @rb3551
@juanwilly1 - I am impressed you are able to run after a TKR. I have heard from others (not a doctor yet) that you really can't run any longer once you have one.
@rheddmobile - I ask now before I see a doctor or a PT if they are a runner and/or look to see what their 'sports' background is if any. I hate having a medical person tell me I shouldn't be running or working out for whatever reason (bad for your knees, bad for your feet, you're too old, etc...) but it is usually because of ignorance and they haven't stayed current with the medical studies.
We had a plumber at the house this morning to fix a toilet so my morning got hijacked. I got out with Hobbes the Vizsla for our warmup and realized it was too warm for him. I dropped him off at home and went back out on my own but by then it was almost 80F out. My legs felt pretty trashed by the PT yesterday with her wand of pain and all the squats and lunges she had me do. So instead I switched it to a 30 min run/walk workout. Even with that I felt like my legs were exhausted so it was really slow going even as much as I wanted to keep up with the workout. I am hoping on Friday I can get out earlier while it is cooler and do the longer interval run. On a good note all the work with the PT and doing all the exercises at home (the list is getting longer and longer) seems to really be helping. While my hamstring was tired and cranky it did not hurt during or afterwards the way it had been. I am pretty sure if I keep them up, which I intend to, it will get and stay resolved and besides I will have glutes of steel by then!

Plugging along here. A gorgeous evening for a run, but it still felt hard. Too many hills, not enough endurance yet in this comeback. My back feels good though.
I have 2 1/2 solid days of a virtual conference starting tomorrow morning at 8 am. Not looking forward to that and not sure when I'll get my running done. Maybe one of those sessions will have to be audio only while I take a quick run.
7 -
@kgirlhart I hope your hip is feeling better and the rest days is what it needed.
That's amazing @Avidkeo ! You have trained well and are going to kill that HM!
@Scott6255 Glad your run felt good and easy today!
@Tramboman Yay for a nice run. Hope you caught some trout, and, if not, at least had fun trying.
@WhatMeRunning Good for you for getting out and running anyway. It is amazing how it always makes you feel so good that you did it!
Welcome @juanwilly1 ! You are doing great!
@rb3551 Welcome! You are doing fantastic too! Great run today!
Nice walking @skippygirlsmom ! Love seeing that you are able to be active again.
@shanaber Glad the PT is helping your hamstring. Hahaha about glutes of steel! I need those exercises.
@katharmonic Glad your back is feeling good. I hope you can figure out how to get in a run during the virtual conference.5 -

4/7......0.00..............1.00 - Driveway laps with Tippy and mowed my mom's lawn (1:11:20)
17.20/80 miles
Had a dentist appointment early this morning. I had intended to go for an easy run when I got home, but I didn't sleep good last night, so opted for a nap instead. I think that turned out to be a good choice.
My neighbor and I mowed my mom's lawn this afternoon. We still couldn't get the riding mower started, so I push mowed the entire thing while he did the weed eating. It's really nice to have such great neighbor's. I was tired when I got home, but took Tippy for my mile intentional walk to keep the streak going. We did it in 16:30 min for a 3.6 mph pace.8 -

Keep truckin' all!
I have been running this week, just haven't checked in much. Monday - 5k trail time trial (virtual race), Tuesday easy 9k trail run by myself, but I ran into 2 groups from the running club as they were crossing paths and taking a selfie, so it looks like I was with a big group. Yesterday I debated running because I'm being careful with my quad/lower back/hips, but ended up doing almost 10k and then my back hurt for the rest of the day.
Wanted to bike today but
I don't know why it's snowing, it was totally Spring here and shorts/tank top weather last week...9 -

I'm doing intervals of walking/running, so I understand why it defaults to "walking (brisk pace)," but yes, I don't like it. I want the credit for the running!

Today was a little warmer!
@polskagirl01 That was us last week, sandwiched between two really warm weeks! I feel like every day is unseasonably warm, or unseasonably cold...which might mean I need to rethink what it is I mean by "unseasonably." Spring really does seem to just swing between the two extremes until we settle on summer.5 -

14.3/70 miles
4/3: 6.2 miles
4/5: 4 miles
4/6: 4.1 miles
I forgot to post this completely uneventful but totally fine run the other day. Thanks for all the shoutouts re: my race last week. I am very proud of my family. They did a great job! @quilteryoyo My daughter is 12, just about to head into jr. high.
We found out last night that a guy running the 10k portion of the race we did had cardiac arrest on the course and could not be resuscitated. We saw ambulances coming through at one point but didn't hear any details until we hit the aid station. One of the volunteers there said they had to perform CPR on someone but that was it. I honestly assumed it was one of the ultra runners because they had been running for several hours by that point. He was a regular in the trail running community and that always hits a group hard (as we know too well here). Being newish to the trail scene here, I did not know him but it's always sad and a little scary to see someone who appears to be in good shape suddenly die during sports.12 -
@polskagirl01 12 is a rough age. Maybe track will help keep her focused and help her make friends, if that is an issue with a new school. So sad to hear about the runner. I agree, it is scary and sad when someone who appears to be in good shape, and is seemingly doing everything "right," passes away so suddenly. Hugs to everyone involved.2

Sunny, low 60s F, and a light breeze from the southeast. A lot of the ornamental trees are in bloom and the world looks and smells wonderful!! But I was lazy...Caught some trout yesterday (including one that jumped out of the stocking bucket into my arms like a baby) and will go back out again today.
@polskagirl01 Sorry about your snow...

Some more 2's were added to my total again today. I get nervous when running and the number two gets involved.
My Garmin informed me at the end of today's effort that it had detected a new max HR of 174. I had been using 171 based on the old 220 - age method. Knowing that and seeing a new resting HR of 56 over the last week I may need to tweak the HR settings on my workouts by a beat or two.
@martaindale - That is always sad to hear, especially when it's a known member of a running community.
@polskagirl01 - Temps are fluctuating wildly here too. Yesterday's run was in the 60's at dawn with feels like of 70, todays run was 45 with rain and a feels like of 38. That's not snow, of course, but I typically would rather run in snow than a cold rain on a cold day. Although if I see snow again I'm liable to curse out the sky (again). It's an old man thing. We do a lot of cursing at the sky. Or at least I do.
As to the MFP running vs walking debate, I remember being told that most of my runs were in place, but since stsrting up again it keeps saying I'm running at 5mph...which I'm not. I'm slower than that. My data is coming from Garmin too. I think MFP might just be crazy.6 -

I’ve been enjoying our Spring weather the past few days (sorry for the snow @Polskagirl01). Went hiking after work yesterday. Made a late evening getting home followed by a 4:00 am alarm for this morning’s run but my legs weren’t as tired as I thought they would be on the run.
@martaindale – the story of that man collapsing while running just gives me cold chills. It’s uncanny how fast we are here one minute and gone the next.

@Tramboman Glad you get to go fishing again today. Haha about the trout jumping into your arms. I would have liked to have seen that!
@Teresa502 Glad you were able to go hiking and that your run was a good one. I don't know how you get up so early for a run. Where do you do the majority of your morning runs? I would have to run on the treadmill because there are no lights around here and my driveway would be dangerous in the dark.

Got a late start to my morning - didn't get out until 11:00. I needed to be done before noon so I could join in on a zoom meeting for Relay For Life. Therefore, I did driveway laps so I would be close to home. It was cloudy and 63°F, so near perfect weather to run. I ran by HR, so was really slow, but managed to keep it down to an average of 149 bpm. It wasn't an easy run though. I had difficulty breathing to begin with. It's probably pollen, so I guess I need to start using my inhaler before heading out again. The breathing got better, but my legs just didn't want to go today. I think mowing mom's lawn took more out of my yesterday than I realized. I was just glad that today's run was scheduled to be easy and that I beat the rain.

Morning all. Its Friday, Last run before my half. 5k base run. Nice and easy. So easy I'm contemplating changing my goal... So tempting to go for a sub 2hr on this run. But stick to the plan. I don't want to aim for something I haven't trained for and then crash and burn. I will be absolutely stoked with a 2:02:59.
I bought a new running top in the Easter sales. It was described at coral. Its bright orange. At least I'll be visible when I wear it. Wore it this morning and it's very comfortable.
Just gotta get through today. Working in ED (ER? A and E?) so should go fast12
