I did feel better today. Still decided to take it easy and just go for a fast walk outside. It was warmer than I thought it was going to be - 54°F and sunny when I got out. I did wear a jacket, but actually got hot.
After my walk, I hiked down the hill at my house to see if my Trout Lilies were blooming. Thanks to @Tramboman (I think) for reminding me it was time. I have several large plots of them on both sides of the little creek that runs through my property. The Spring Beauties were also blooming. I love spring flowers.

@quilteryoyo Nice flower pictures.
I wonder if there's a way to deep fry chocolate bunnies?4 -
@Tramboman I bet you could coat them in pancake batter and give them a quick deep fry. Maybe freeze them first so they don't melt as soon as they hit the heat.3

Beautiful sunny day here. I was more than happy to have a lazy morning and meet a friend late morning for a run - waiting until after she got through all the Easter morning events at her house. It was really perfect running weather and we both had a lot of stories to tell each other so it felt great. I was a little nervous about how my back felt after yesterday's run and was worried I was pushing it by running 3 days in a row, but it felt good today. I also took a long walk with the dog after and all is well.
In some good news I also booked flights to go to Florida for a little over two weeks from now - where I'll get to see my mom for the first time in over a year and a half. Even though she's not much of a traveler, especially by herself, she booked herself two weeks in Florida after getting her second vaccine - she's been pretty isolated this whole time and was just ready to get out in the world. I decided to go down for a few days and join her and she's very excited. Of course I'm hoping for some beach running time among all the other benefits.10 -

Ha ha @quilteryoyo definitely 50 for the month. I have a November goal race. It’s 7.6 miles in Mobile near where Skip goes to school. We finish at the USS Alabama which I loved touring.9 -
@Tramboman Have you ever tried deep fried Oreos? That's they way they do them. They are soooo good and totally change the texture of the Oreo. LOL Nice run. You weren't slow...the sun was just fast at heating up the world around you.
Great running @pfeiferlindsey ! Yay for getting your speed back.
Nice pace @sweetdaisy13 !
@katharmonic Glad you had a nice run and yay for a vacation in FL and seeing your mom. That should be so much fun for both of you!
@skippygirlsmom I'm glad you are able to plan a November run! Sounds like a good one. Will Skip be joining you?

My niece and her family came to mom's for a visit this morning, so I got to spend some time with the great-niece. She's 19 months old and full of energy.
Love her eyes.
Everything is a hat right now.
It was a beautiful morning and she enjoyed mom's flowers.
When I got home, I was tired, so laid down for a much needed nap. When I got up, I went out for my run. I had scheduled myself for 4 miles, but since I got a late start, I gave myself permission to just do 2. I felt pretty good, so compromised and ran 3. I tried to keep my HR down. I did okay, with the average over the 39:30 minutes was 163 bpm.9 -
@katharmonic - that trip with your mom will be awesome. I am sure she will be thrilled to have you there for a couple of days!
@quilteryoyo - Your Great Niece is adorable! Great job getting the run in and a nap!
I have not run this weekend. Was not feeling well and wasn't able to get out. Hopefully tomorrow!
Hope everyone who celebrates had a wonderful Easter!

April Goal: 100 Miles
4/1: 5.51 miles
4/2: 1.41 miles
4/4: 9.02 miles
15.94/100 miles completed for April
I took yesterday as a rest day ending my run streak. I enjoyed the streak, but I also enjoyed sitting on the couch with my coffee and having a liesurly start to my day. Then my son and his girlfriend came in for Easter and we got together with my family. I really over ate yesterday and I was paying for it this morning. I didn't sleep well and I was tired and my stomach still felt full and bloated. I was planning to get out early before everyone was up and I was hoping to see the sunrise on Easter morning. I didn't get up as early as I intended. But it was cloudy so there wasn't much sunrise visible and the kids were still asleep when I got home. I ran 9 miles. It was kind of a tough run and I was a little nervous about the last mile that I might not make it home to the bathroom, but I did.

Sunny, low 40s F, and a touch of wind from the south. Felt back to normal after my second shot, but even so, got a little tired in the last kilometer. Did get to see a small bass in one of the little ponds I run near.
@quilteryoyo I have never tried deep fried Oreos, but I can assure you I never met a food I didn't like.

Thanks @Teresa502. I was and still am scared about that too. It was so easy to just take another day, and then another and another. And then I decided March was a wash anyway so I shouldn't push it just to log miles. Fortunately I have friends who won't let me quit and my sanity sort of depends on it
/
I was worried about that too. But, I usually take a run break when I'm on vacation since our vacations tend to be pretty active, and I have yet to have a problem returning to running. Usually after 1-2 weeks off, I actually miss running and look forward to getting back to it.3 -
RunsOnEspresso wrote: »Yep, got out while everyone was sleeping. Was a very pleasant 50F and light wind. Many hills on this Terry Hershey path, but it is very nice not to have to worry at all about crossing roads and traffic. I guess I just can't help myself to not run a HM while I am in Houston. My body just knows to do that when I come here 😉 Got it done in less than 2 hours.
Oh, and everyone was still sleeping when I got back!
So it's like you didn't even run! 😉😉😉

Just now posting my 10k Race report from the weekend. I'll have to come back a post a pic or 2.
The family selected a 10k that was supposed to be held at a state park with really nice trails, super easy running environment as a way to get my husband and daughter back to running. But, last minute changes moved it to a ranch that is largely horse trails. Nice place but not the easy paths we had planned on, and you may recall my family didn't finish their training plan. I was a bit worried about this race. At the start, the race director briefed us on the course. In short, it is super sandy. Deep loose sand. Awesome.
We decided ahead of time to do 10 min/2 min run/walk intervals to help my husband and daughter not be totally spent by the end. The first 2 miles were a TON of sand and it really took it out of us. In the middle, there was some decent trail with just short areas of sand that wasn't too deep. Then the last 1.5 miles or so, the sand returned with a vengeance. It was exhausting.
My family actually did really well though! My daughter thrives in a race day environment and she definitely prefers trail. She has done a couple of road races but this was her first trail race. She didn't complain at all, which I take as a huge accomplishment because the course was hard. She actually pushed the pace pretty aggressively and we had to slow her down a few times as she started leaving us. If someone came into her view, she would feel the need to pass them. There were several converging distances on various parts of the course ranging from 100k to 5k, and some of the runners were moving pretty fast. I tend to run a fairly steady pace once I settle in and my husband was struggling a bit with the sand, so I was pacing us and it was my job to reign her in a bit. The course was pretty well marked but I didn't want her venturing off alone since she has zero experience reading a trail course.
She now wants to find another race! I think I will try to find some good trail run options and stick to shorter distance for the warm months, but I think it will be enough to keep her going and she is at least willing to try cross country. Running even a little through the summer will make cross country so much easier for her come fall.11 -
@martaindale that is great that your family all raced together! Sounds like a tough course with all that sand, but you all did great! Nice to hear your daughter is really excited about running.2

Hi all! I am new to the thread, and still a newbie-ish runner. Did C25k a few years ago and ran some short races, then got sidetracked (probably by a baby?) and am only getting back into it now. I'm doing C25k again because I liked the program very much the first time around and I need to build my endurance back up. I'm setting a low goal for myself this month because I'm still not going very far yet - 15 miles total. My youngest (9mos) has been rather grumpy about me leaving the house without her, so really, the goal is about actually getting out of the door on a regular basis.
I've enjoyed reading through the thread so far and look forward to getting to know all of you!10 -
Welcome @penguinmama87 ! C25k is a great program. Lots of us also got started using it.4
-
That sands sounds brutal @martaindale. I'm so glad that your daughter enjoyed it and I love that she wanted to pass the person in front of her. Congratulations!
Welcome @penguinmama87!1
