@globalhiker - Yes! There is definitely a cost savings when reducing or eliminating alcohol. My calculation tracking was just the liquor store ... we buy wine and beer at the grocery store ... and oh my the restaurant/bar prices are $$$. It is a viscous reality check on the spending side of life.

Any extra savings would be great for my retirement travel plans :)

Just an update to all here. Saw ENT today, put a scope down nose into throat...and poof yup, nasty infection down there. Diagnosis: yeast infection from round of antibiotics I took, and PA would not give me 'the pink pill' - you gals know what I am taking about--told me to eat yogurt with the live bacteria, which I did. So know I will be taking a few medications to clear this up....will this never end

on the subject of menopause. Been there done that. Yes you will attack weight around the middle and the crazy hormones are no help. I still have what I call my apron but the less alcohol I drink the less pronounced it seems to be. I have not lost any weight but just look a tad better. Also it is all true about the liver stopping its job to to digest the alcohol which means it has to store that dinner you just ate and get back to it....oh never

Well the whiskey tasting turns out to be next Thursday not this week. So a none event.

Couple of turkey & 7up during dinner and on the porch. Waited until everyone was through their 1.5 drinks before pouring my own. :) One way to not drink as much ... start with water for the evening!

Menopause - Well what I've noticed is that all my friends lose their nip in curved waist and get the straighter sides ... a little tummy even on my skinniest friends during menopause seems to be normal. Will not drinking help ... probably. What I definitely know as I'm on the other side of that now ... if you drink red wine you will have hot flashes during the evening. For some reason red wine triggers the night sweats and hot flashes more than other drinks.

@lmlmrn I feel for you. chronic sinus infections are no joke. DD was on antibiotics and prednisone for over a year. She was taking last-resort antibiotics, and that was pretty scary. Finally after ruling out causes like allergies she had surgery— removed very infected and enlarged adenoids, altered her septum and enlarged a couple passages. She had infections subsequently (it takes membranes and cilia about a year to heal, hence vulnerable to infections after surgery), BUT she has felt so much better. Night and day. I hope you find some relief. I know how she suffered.

    Hi : - )

I joined this thread November 2018. I was a daily drinker at that point.
I am drinking less chiefly to lose weight.
My goals now are the same as they have been since January 2020, kind of my sweet spot.
    16-20 AF days per month
NO drinking 2 days in a row - this is changing with my new work schedule
Keep 2 AF days in between drinks days - this also is changing with my new schedule, it is turning out to be 5AF days in a row and 2 consecutive A days.
3 is my max or I throw up - this is never likely to change.

    Here goes my diary style:

Friday April 23 - Planning on a couple of drinks tonight. I was up ultra early and finished all of my work by 10:30. I got 2 rows out of 10 of the potato garden dug up and planted. It is supposed to rain the next couple of days, but I just couldn't physically do any more today. Going to have a nice scented bath tonight, pull the TV up to the tub and watch HGTV with a couple of drinks.
Saturday April 24 - AF - Rainy day today. A drink would have been nice, but I didn't, I work tomorrow. Planned AF now until Thursday or Friday.
Sunday April 25 - AF - Worked a split shift
Monday April 26 - AF - Just home between another split shift, busy day tomorrow with various jobs, so AF it will be.
Tuesday April 27 - AF - Long work day, trying to pull jobs forward so that I might get two full days off this week instead of one.
Wednesday April 28 - AF - Brutally long work day today, by choice. I really felt like having a drink when I finally got back home. I have only one small job in the morning and then my 4 hour restaurant shift tomorrow. I have a bottle of Skinnygirl Margarita in the fridge and a glass in the freezer. I definitely will be sitting out back in the sun with a drink tomorrow. Also planned drinks on my friend's patio for Friday.
Thursday April 29 - 2 drinks. I enjoyed them much more than I used to when I had drinks every day. I brought Bhindi Masala home from the restaurant for dinner (okra), really delicious.

Rolling total: 21 AF days out of 29 days

Oh my gosh between @lmlmrn sinus infection, menopause discussions and the yearly cost of sucked down dollars I am exhausted mentally thinking about it all.

@lmlmrn we know our bodies better than anyone. You should have been given antibiotics right off, not told to eat yogurt. I am so sorry it got to the point you had to go through such agony. Mend quickly.

$$$ the price we spend for "fun". Not to mention trying to reverse the negative effects it has plagued on our bodies by spending more $$$ to do so. In 2018 I kept a log of money spent during that crucial year I was transitioning to drinking less. Even that was more than I wanted or could afford to waste on too much alcohol.

Maybe at the same time I work on sticking to my allowed drink limit on alcohol days. I will also put a dollar cap in my monthly calculations again.

LET'S HEAR FROM EVERYONE as to how you feel about April's out come for yourself( and or the S.O. in your life sharing this LESS ALCOHOL journey)

As I mentioned. I need to work on not going over my 2 drink limit if I do decided to have alcohol on a particular day. Guess that is why they refer to it as " The drinks kept flowing". Well I need a dam at the end of my flowing river. And that starts now.

So looking forward to MAY 2021 and our new fresh thread.

All of you are so appreciated 💙

Regarding $$$ spent on alcohol each month and/or year. It does add up!

    As @globalhiker said: Drink Less=Get Rich :)

@dawnbgethealthy & @MissMay - your calculations and comments provide additional insight on this topic. Thanks.
