Today's run was fairly pleasant. Felt strong and the humidity was finally down below 100% (for once in seems like ages) to 82%.
I've been having trouble with my chest strap HRM briefly losing signal several times during my runs. A battery swap and cleaning did not help, and today I ran with a brand spanking new one, but it did the exact same thing! So it's definitely not the HRM's fault. I read the owners manual on the new one and it suggested wetting the sensor before running. I've never done that before. I may try that to see if it is somehow an issue with contact for the sensor.4 -
4 mile tempo run with warm up and cool down for a total of 5 miles. Tempo runs are my least favorite type of workout. It's hard so you do it because to improve you need to do hard things.

I actually bought a little bit of gel (like they use for ultrasounds!) which I put under mine. Wetting may indeed be enough tho.
Quick check in - I now understand why my running tends to taper off in May and June. The dew point yesterday was over 70 and almost 70 today. I really dont mind running in the sauna (yes I do) but it's when you stop and you just keep pouring out sweat. yuck.
7 -
@WhatMeRunning - when I used the HRM strap I had to wet it to get the connectivity to be consistent.
@SummerSkier - I hate that too and it also happens for me when it is just hot but not humid which is more common here. Yesterday it was 90 and the humidity was maybe in the upper 20's so the dew point was low but I was sweating buckets and increasing my own private humidity level!
@eleanorhawkins - so glad you are doing so well with your trail club!
@skippygirlsmom - I want a job like Skip where they leave me nice surprises like that! Actually I would just like to have a Fleet Feet somewhere close to me. Also I am so glad you are back out on the trails and running with your girl again!
@quilteryoyo - hope your tummy is feeling better and that the difficulty breathing was just a one time issue. Have you had asthma before? I know it kind of feels like that.
@penguinmama87 - I have done some genealogy research too. Fortunately for me many relatives on my dad's side had already done so much work going all the way back to the 13 and 1400's in England, Holland and Ireland. My husband has done quite a lot of research too and we were able to visit cemeteries in Texas and in Pennsylvania. I would love to someday get back to the UK and do some research at the genealogy libraries in Scotland and Ireland as well as visit the churches and cemeteries there. You might check out the FamilySearch website. It is part of the Mormon Church Genealogy library and has a wealth of information and it's free.
I have had a couple of good runs and a pretty terrible run the last few days. Hamstring is occasionally giving me issues but I am trying to be more consistent with my PT exercises and stretches. I am not going to make my 100 mile club goal again but there is always next month.

It makes it really hard to shower, apply make-up and get ready for work!

Yet another far too restless to run moment: 4.02km with Garmin coach Amy. I was supposed to run at 1-2min/km above 10k target pace. I ran 0.03min/km below it. Sigh. But it was the fastest 4k run in ages.6

Morning all.
Up bright and early for a tempo run. It's only 6 degrees here (42f) so a tempo run was welcome. The wind has been nuts the last few days but completely died over night. Its a beautiful and clear crisp morning.
Sunrise on the Maunga (mountain)
I have an admin day today! I'm so excited because I get to dedicate a reasonable amount of time to our students. My boss has also suggested we get someone to support me, which would be wonderful! I'm feeling a lot more confident and comfortable in this role. Some extra training has helped and the simple act of making the students my first priority.
For now I'm relaxing in bed, have to get moving in an hr.10 -
@Avidkeo that is a GORGEOUS view you have there. wow!!!!!!
@Teresa502 yes it certainly does. I have been WFH for the past 14 months but that will end next week so it's going to be hard to cool down for sure. Luckily we are still 100% masked so don't need a lot of makeup. hahahaha.
@shanaber I am going to miss my May goal also but it's all good. We just keep on keepin' on! Already starting to think about what I should push for in June.3 -

Treadmill run before yoga this morning. On the home stretch with work deadlines!5 -
@Tramboman Yay on the golf going well. Hope the chafing and quads aren't too bad.
@WhatMeRunning Yay for lower humidity. When I used a chest strap, I always dampened mine when I put it on. I hope that is all it is.
@RunsOnEspresso Great running. Love "It's hard so you do it because to improve you need to do hard things." I'm not good at doing this. I want to improve without it being hard.
@sweetdaisy13 You are doing great and love the way you use your time during your children's practice to run.
Thank you @shanaber . I did have childhood asthma and my doctor now thinks I have exercised induced asthma. It doesn't happen all the time, so I forget to use my inhaler before heading out in the summer. Sorry about the hard runs, but yay for sticking with it. Hope the hamstring starts behaving better all the time.
Nice run @yirara . Does Coach Amy fuss if you don't meet her goal, or does she lower her expectations?
Beautiful morning there @Avidkeo . Glad you had a nice run and the winds died down.
I played doubles tennis this morning for nearly two hours - I'm counting that as XT, which was on the schedule for today. I also walked a mile on the treadmill for my streak.8 -

I managed to get a mile run this morning before the sky opened up and the lightning started. When I got up my weather app said 70°F and cloudy. It wasn't raining or stormy so I got ready and headed out. I had only gone about half a mile when it started to rain. It wasn't terribly windy, but I saw lightning so I decided to head on home and just do yoga. I was totally drenched by the time I got home. I don't love running in the rain,, but I can deal with it, but I am not going to run when it is lightning. It stormed the whole time I did yoga and lasted until after I got to work. Hopefully tomorrow will be better. I will certainly check the radar to see if anything is heading my way before I start out.

For once I have managed perfect timing - running injury and bad weather. It's so much easier to miss a run when it raining, freezing and blowing a gale outside. Now, as I'm healing, the weather seems to be improving - still cold and windy, but the rain has gone.
As part of my rehab I tried aqua jogging for the first time. Weird, but my legs and feet felt so loose and relaxed afterwards. I definitely prefer it to swimming lengths so will try and keep it in the weekly rotation.10 -

I’m not sure yet. There’s a confidence level that I’ll finish at the chosen time and it went up last night. But I don’t know whether she’ll give me harder intervals or tempo runs next week due to this 😬2 -

I think I *just* beat today's rain! Today's C25K was a 20 minute run with no walk breaks. I was a little nervous when I started but I did it and kept a reasonably steady pace throughout (turtle pace, but we can work on that later!) Once I got to 12-13 minutes I knew I was going to be able to finish it. My earbud battery died before I finished but since there was only one interval it didn't really matter - I knew what time it would be when 20 minutes were up. But I am going to be better about charging it from now on!6 -
Just a quick update:
Last night was 7k with the girls, it was challenging for me as usual, but OK.
Today I went out on a route that takes me through fields, dirt roads next to a mine. At one point there was standing water all across the muddy road, and it looked like some sort of gross mine runoff, but I had no choice but to try to jump it, getting both shoes completely submerged, and then I slipped and fortunately was able to fall towards dry land. I wasn't sure what was in the water but it didn't smell good... but as I went on, the smell got worse and I later realized it was a landfill. It was a windy day, so as soon as I was upwind from it, the air was much more pleasant. I wore my Decathlon trail shoes, and they seem good for muddy conditions. But I did rinse them off when I got home due to the mud seeming kinda trashy in places. They're out drying on the fence.
It was a beautiful day, but it's not letting me upload pictures right now.10 -
@kgirlhart Glad you were able to dodge the storms. Hope they have subsided today.
@ContraryMaryMary I hope you heal quickly. Glad the aqua jogging helped. Remind me again what your injury is. I have forgotten. Sorry.
Congratulations @penguinmama87 ! I remember that 20 minute run with no break being a hard mental barrier to overcome. You are doing great!
@polskagirl01 Landfill runoff sounds awful. Glad it was a beautiful day, you got upwind and that your trail shoes handled it well.2 -
6.5 miles this morning Quite a hot one, 75F dewpoint (falls into the very difficult category) But hit my monthly goal and negative split each mile so calling this a win.
