Welcome @abowersgirl , @gamommy2 , and @jane_76 .
@gamommy2 Unless you had planned to run more, you don't have to use the word "only." YOU RAN 1.65 miles today. That's awesome!
Nice running @sweetdaisy13 !
@jane_76 Great job on completing the first week of C25K! I had open heart surgery in Jan, so understand that it is hard to not compare to what you were doing before. If you must compare, compare to what you were doing last year, not 5 years ago! You've got this.
@Avidkeo I think an annual memorial run is a great idea. Everyone had some good comments too. Way too early for me to think that deeply, but I'm in for whatever the group decides.

Morning all!
In for another 100 miles this month. Stretch goal will be 110 miles, but have a lot planned this month, so we'll see if I can squeak that out.
May 1 - 3.09 miles
Total for May - 3.09 miles
May Goal - 100 miles
Miles to go - 96.91 miles4 -
So confused. Both threads have the same title.... Can someone close the other one?1

I remember helping with the organization for Dennis. The time difference was a huge issue.
I would suggest maybe making it a weekend where people can participate anytime from say Fri-Mon. And however long they feel is appropriate. Maybe we can do a mile for each member we've lost for those of us that want specific amount.6 -
5/2 - 5.66 mile 82 min easy effort
May total: 5.66 miles
May goal: 95 miles
First May run completed this morning! It was also the last run of my first 6 week base building period since I started running again in March. Tomorrow starts a down week, after which I have planned another 6 week base building period. So, this week is "lather and rinse" then "repeat" next week. Or maybe I just need a bath or something.8 -
Not a terrible HM this morning, but should have felt easier. But it was really hot (well felt hot due to 65F and 100% humidity), so was carrying about 5 extra pounds of sweat in my clothes. But did manage to hit exactly 2 hours.

I love the idea of a memorial run. Participating in ones we have done before really made me feel even more connected with this group and seemed like the type of memorial our running friends would have liked.

@Scott6255 Wow! That's an excellent HM time! I'm hoping to complete my first one in 3 hours. Yes, I'm really slow!

Sunny, low 60s F with a brisk wind from the south. Went to my favorite 5k course with my wife and daughter -- they waked and I ran. Originally planned on three laps, but started too slow and then went too fast, so cut it to two laps.
Love the idea of a memorial run -- the simpler the better.
@quilteryoyo Agree with the sentiment behind registering now to increase training motivation -- not that you need any motivation!!!
And welcome to all the new participants. This is a great group chock full of super ideas. Only caveat is that new people cannot be more than 69 years and 63 days old as of today. I refuse to be dethroned as oldest participant, as it's about the only running thing where I have taken and can maintain the lead (just barely).
When you pop in here claiming your December 2021 mileage, what accomplishments will you have made?
PUT THE FUN BACK IN THE RUN!
Return to a good running weight of 175 lbs (second attempt)
2021 Races:

9/18 5k Run and Roll, Aurora, OH10 -
Thanks @quilteryoyo for pointing me into the right thread
Happy May everyone! Sorry I have been so MIA, work has just been insane.
I'm setting a mileage goal of 50 this month and I CAN RUN!!!! Went to the surgeon on Thursday for my check up and she said the break is completely healed as expected and the ligaments as attached beyond her what she would have thought at this point in recovery. She said she was really worried since they were completed disconnected from the bone. She said to start with intervals and put off trails for a bit, she was amazed at the strength in my ankle already and said I must have been working hard on on PT. I promptly went home and ran 1.5 miles, well I ran 1 and did intervals on the .5. I'm going to count everything here that is done with a purpose so like my 3 miles yesterday I split up, 1 mile with dogs walking, one mile with Champ running, and 1 miles with Champ alternating run .25 walk like .1.
5/1 - 3.14
5/2 - 3.34
6.48 of 50 miles

@skippygirlsmom that is incredible! I remember back in Jan when you hurt yourself and the doc said maybe a year before you could run. LOOK AT YOU GO!!!! Talk about underestimating a runner's ability to come back.
@quilteryoyo I agree. Train for the half. It's a great motivator!
@Scott6255 that's an AMAZING race for you today. Well done! in spite of the extra 5 lbs of sweat. (for women we call it "glow")
May 1 8.1 miles/8.1 cum goal 200
May 2 9.12 miles/ 17.22 cum

Today's run was in 2 parts. I am working really hard at improving my cardiovascular by not only running for speed but also to keep my heart rate down. First 6 miles I managed to keep it in the 140's avg altho the pace was over 11 min miles. (which always chuffs me!) but second 5K was a sprint in my rocket nikes which sometimes I have trouble keeping up with. And altho my HR was in the 170's with a high over 190 (YIKES!) it really was speedwork with 8:49 avg for the distance.7 -
So I, smugly, thought I was pretty fit after a year with a trainer who upped my mileage from 40km to around 60km a week. Now that I’ve moved from working on my half marathon to working on my 10k, I’ve had two weeks of speed work on the trot and I’m dead.
My bum hurts, my legs are heavy, and my abs hurt. I know runners need and will have a strong core but I’ve never actually gotten sore abs while running before. And the fact that my sprint pace is still ridiculously slow, it seems a little incongruous to be this beat up.
Oh well, as I’m not literally dead I must be getting stronger.
If you need me, I’ll be napping over here.13 -
Nice running @SummerSkier ! Haha about having trouble keeping up with your rocket nikes. I think your paces are amazing.
@ContraryMaryMary I guess when you start doing things differently, you're going to feel it. You are so good at following the coach's plan, you are going to kill the 10K. Do you have a goal in mind?2 -
May Goal: 100 Miles
5/2: 9.75 miles
9.75/100 miles completed for May
I had a really good 9.75 mile run this morning. I probably should have gotten out earlier, but I slept in a little. It was 66°F with 96% humidity at the start and at the end it was 72°F but the humidity had fallen to 78%. It was warm and kind of muggy, but I was so glad to see some sunshine that I didn't really mind. I kind of hated to stop at 9.75, but by the time I got home I was pretty hot and I really needed to use the bathroom so I decided that 9.75 was good enough and I didn't have to go to 10.
I think the idea of a memorial run is great. I am in, unless tutus are mandatory and then I am out. 🙃 But seriously I think it's a great idea and I think the simpler the better.
Welcome @gamommy2 and @jane_76! And welcome back @abowersgirl!
@skippygirlsmom I am so glad you are able to run again!
@quilteryoyo Definitely sign up! You have plenty of time to train!
Great run @Scott6255! It was definitely humid today, but I was still glad it wasn't raining anymore.
2021 Races:
4/24/21: Run For The Children 10K PR 55:46:28.
11/6/21: Run For 57th AHC Half Marathon6 -
I did it. I signed up for the AF HM in September. It's a little scary, especially when I read the description of the course and it starts with "The Air Force Half Marathon course is as challenging as it is rewarding!" Not sure my first HM should be "challenging" and the course "heads uphill right from the start." Guess I'd better start running those hills instead of walking them. LOL
Since I won't have anyone there, I don't think, as support or to take pictures, I did order their picture package. I'd hate to not have a picture of my first HM.
I am going to try to follow the Matt Fitzgerald plan fairly closely. I also signed up for their free running coach just to see how they compare.
Looking at the plan, my goal for May is to run 60 miles, walk 30 miles, and keep my streak going.
Today is a rest day on the plan, so I walked one fast mile to my mom's house for our Sunday lunch. Totals for the month so far are 3.0 miles walked, zero miles ran.

Way to go @quilteryoyo! You are definitely up to the challenge!2
-
Yay @quilteryoyo you totally for this. I'm in awe of your recovery!
@ContraryMaryMary I feel ya! I am doing more speed work atm and the butt hurt is real.
@SummerSkier nice work, and I wouldn't stress too much about HR
@skippygirlsmom omg thats awesome!! So so happy for you!2 -
You got this, @quilteryoyo. Just train as your plan requires and execute the plan. With all you've overcome, a half should be a breeze.4
