@katharmonic Nice job on the bench press PR last week!
@abowersgirl That is awesome that you have gotten your family to agree to run with you!!!!
Sorry you still can't run @polskagirl01 and that your HM was postponed. Nice job on the stairs!
Thanks @martaindale !
Nice playhouse @Avidkeo !
Welcome @jjchristensen1993 !
I worked from 8 - 5 today. When I got home, I did one mile on the treadmill to keep my streak alive. I'm really tired. If I am going to have to get up early, I'm really going to have to figure out how to get to bed sooner. I'm not a teenager anymore.5 -

@martaindale - I promise you I want that sweet spot of not needing gloves/tights/long sleeves but not hot and humid.
Took my speed work to the track today. Five, four minute tempo intervals with recovery in between. Felt really good.

I took yesterday as a rest day from running, so today I ran 5.25 miles. I had a hard time getting out the door this morning, but once I did I had a really good run. The weather was really nice. It was dark when I started out ant the crescent moon was really pretty. And it was getting light when I got home. I really like when it isn't dark for the entire run.
I finally got caught up reading the thread. I can't believe that the Run the Year group was already here this week. I almost missed you. I guess I kind of did because I think we are at least an hour west of me now. But you all ran about 10 miles north of me. I am about 2 hours west of @scott6255. After you left the DFW area you all ran right over Possum Kingdom Lake (where @martaindale will be running a trail race in a couple of weeks. ) I live just west of PK in a small town of about 5000. Basicallyin the middle of nowhere. You won't see much out here but some cows and horses and some pumpjacks. But we have nice sunrises and sunsets and the bluebonnet are still blooming.
This pumpjack is in the parking lot at my office.

Rainy and low 40s F again this morning, so back to the treadmill. Didn't feel like playing with speed, so I played with incline instead - going up one notch each kilometer. Think my legs didn't realize what I was doing until the very end.
When you pop in here claiming your December 2021 mileage, what accomplishments will you have made?

@kgirlhart Thanks for sharing pictures of your part of the country. The bluebonnets are really pretty. Glad you got yourself out the door and had a nice run.
@Tramboman Hope your legs don't rebel too much. Nice treadmill running for you lately. I hope your weather improves soon so you can get back outside.3 -

@Avidkeo I love the playhouse! We're thinking about building a compost bin out of old pallets. We have a plastic bin (old beat up garbage can) right now by our back door but it's a little small for us. There's actually a stack of pallets by a building I typically run past. Nobody seems to be using them, and I keep thinking "maybe I should call and see if they care if we take a few." I could buy a kit from the hardware store, but seems silly to do that if there's free wood that would otherwise just be thrown away, or sit there forever!7 -
Agree, that playhouse looks great, and very nice ingenuity @Avidkeo!
Surprised myself big time today. Had the worst sleep I've had in months last night. Just couldn't fall asleep, but when I did I woke up about every hour. Got up @ 3am with a bad headache so took some Tylenol. Laid back down for a couple hours but didn't really sleep. Got up and went through the motions of getting ready to run. Was just going to go for a slow, short 10 miles. But when I got going legs didn't hurt, and I was feeling better. Changed route and ended up doing 15 miles, and felt better than any of the runs during the week (and was the fastest run of the week). Longest run of the year so far too.
12 -
Well done your 15 mile run @Scott6255. That's what I often end up doing when I'm feeling good on a run - plan a route then depending on how I feel, change it about half way in and end up adding more mileage and elevation.
I love those runs as I feel more of a sense of achievement as I've done more than I set out to do.5 -
Monthly Question?
When you fall off the wagon, how do you recover?
Vacation plans this summer/season?
What is your favorite non-running related hobby?2 -
I thought about trying to get out for a walk today at my favorite running park. Surely I could walk 2 miles, right? eh I made it to the other side of the house and rethought my day. LOL! Hip surgeon consult 3 days. Run for me. or just walk, that'd be fine.7

1. My problem is usually trying to jump back on a moving wagon when I should be resting and getting back on sensibly when it comes back around and stops.
But not today - I did an easy 2.3 km run and stopped
2. No idea. Not making plans just to cancel them. Maybe last minute mountain trips if things are open.
3. Baking? Quilting? When we're in the US, I love going for motorcycle rides with my husband.6 -
@quilteryoyo well done on your virtual race and getting a total of 6 miles in! Fantastic pace and effot.
@polskagirl01 sorry about your HM being postponed. I hear you on the DOMS and feeling out of shape, but yes you are doing great and have been steady so you are not. A mountain run is a mountain run!
Thanks for showing us around your neck of the woods @kgirlhart! The blue sky and bluebonnets makes a really pretty picture.
Nice 15 mile run @Scott6255!
@swenson19d I was just thinking about you and your monthly questions the other day and considered thinking one up myself to try to draw you back! And here you are. Hope your meeting with the hip surgeon goes well. I'm sorry that it continues to be such a challenge and painful.
So, to answer the questions:
When you fall off the wagon, how do you recover? I sort of fell of the running wagon in mid-March with a back injury and it's been hard to get back on. I've given myself a lot of permission to take it slowly and not just jump back in full speed. But I use my friends to help keep me motivated. As compared to before I don't run by myself that often these days, I try to get a friend to meet me so I won't back out.
Vacation plans this summer/season? I just took a trip to Florida a couple weeks ago and that was a nice break after not traveling for a year. I'm planning a visit to a friend at the end of June and a visit to see my family in July or August. I'll hopefully be doing lots of weekend hiking trips.
What is your favorite non-running related hobby? Hiking I guess. Rock climbing is something I loved but haven't gotten back to and I'm itching to do that. Really - happy hour outside on a nice day is my very favorite hobby

It was pouring rain when I woke up this morning and only 37 degrees. I am so tired of being cold - I didn't run yesterday for that reason because it was also cold and rainy. But I dragged myself out today and met my friends. It let up a lot and was not that bad for running. I was very stiff and sore though from Thursday's leg workout. I cut the run short today and went to the gym for a class that I haven't been to in almost 2 months. It was extremely challenging given the soreness and being out of it for so long. My trainer said to me that that was not a bad class for my comeback, I guess implying it wasn't as hard as his classes usually are and I inwardly cursed him. It was plenty hard.

@Scott6255 awesome run, well dine2

Yesterday was long run day. I just wasn't feeling it. Plan was a 5 min warm up, 1hr35min run at around 6:25min/k and an extra 15min if I felt up to it followed by 5 min cool down.
I was not up to it. I did the 1:35 but after 10k started getting tired. I was getting achey and just wasn't enjoying it. So decided not to push for the extra 15 mins.
My hips were sore and even worse, I was getting a very slight niggle iny calf. So I'm glad I listened to my body.
Then last night I started feeling a bit tight chested, and have a bit of discomfort with an occasional raspy cough, and scratchy throat. So I think im coming down with something. Or trying to lol.
And this morning calf is feeling a bit tight. I haven't had any niggles in months. So I'm being sensible today. Rest day. No running, no walks. Rest. And may take an extra one tomorrow to be safe9 -

Thanks for the photo tour @kgirlhart
Great run @Scott6255
@swenson19d - I am getting back on the wagon right now. I don't have any summer plans at this time. As for other hobbies, I can usually only afford time for one. Recent hobbies in fitness were strength amd outside of fitness have been BBQ and maker board tech related projects.
@katharmonic I am a little tired of this cold weather too. Looks like I will need a long sleeve shirt tomorrow, maybe even pants since it will be near 50, raining, and dropping temps from a 15-20 mph wind from the north. Just crappy.
Hope your feeling well soon @Avidkeo
@AlphaHowls you are amazing! *dew claws up*7 -
@kgirlhart - those bluebonnets are beautiful. Love all the pictures of your area!
@swenson19d - Sorry about the continuing hip problems. I gave you a "hug" because I know how much you like them!
How do I get back on the wagon - I usually don't worry about it. Just move on and take each day as it comes - no looking in the rearview mirror. (Also guilty of burying my head in the sand quite often.)
Vacation plans - Heading to the Grand Canyon in four weeks for a 4-day, 3 night rim-to rim hike. Not sure what else I will do this summer. Last year I ended up having vacation days left to take in December which I hate because the weather is too cold to do much outside so I'm going to focus on taking more summer days even if they are just for day trips.
Favorite non-running hobby - Hanging out with friends and family, reading, working puzzles, soaking up the sunshine.3 -

WTG @Scott6255 ! Awesome running! Especially with very little sleep. I hate it when I wake up every hour. It just feels like you didn't sleep at all. Hope you sleep well tonight.
Nice running @penguinmama87 .
@swenson19d I hope the Hip consult goes well and you can get some relief.
Thanks @katharmonic ! Haha that your favorite hobby is really outdoor happy hour. Nice running in the chilly rain. Your trainer sounds pretty tough.
@Avidkeo Good running and glad you are listening to your body. I hope you aren't coming down with something and rest is all you need.

@alphahowls That is so awesome!
Monthly Question?
When you fall off the wagon, how do you recover? I guess I haven't really fallen off the wagon since I started running 4 years ago. Honestly I worry that if I do I will never get back on it.
Vacation plans this summer/season? We really haven't talked too much about plans this summer. I am hoping to go see my daughter in Austin and my son in Denton. And we usually have a family reunion in July at the lake right outside of town. I would really like to go somewhere this summer but I doubt we will. We were planning a mother's day weekend at the lake this weekend with my mom, four sisters and my daughter and my niece. But then my brother in law got covid and so did my niece so we canceled our plans. We may try to reschedule for my mom's birthday in June.
What is your favorite non-running related hobby? I really enjoy yoga and I also like to read. We spend a lot of time lately in the yard watching the birds at the feeders. The hummingbirds are especially fun to watch.
Today was a rest day so no run. I did take the dogs to the park, but it was really a but hit at 90°F. Plus I got eaten up by mosquitoes so it wasn't as fun as I had hoped. Tomorrow I am planning my usual Sunday long run and then 3 if my sisters and I are going to my Mom's for lunch and my husband is going to his Mom's for lunch. I'll try to come on here tomorrow afternoon and update my run, but if I don't "Happy Mother's Day" to all of you moms.8 -
I did a speed play run this morning on the treadmill. It was cool and windy, so wasn't feeling running outdoors. I ran 5 min at 4.3 mph, 5 min at 4.5 mph, then 5 x (1 min at 6.5 mph/2 min at 4.3 mph), followed by 7:07 at 4.3 mph. Totaled 2.50 miles in 32:07 minutes for a 4.7 mph pace. Also walked a mile total for warm up and cool down.
This afternoon I went down and weed eat at mom's for an hour, after my brother mowed with his zero turn mower.8 -

Monthly question:
So far I haven’t fallen off the running wagon. I have kinda been thrown from the horse by being injured, but considering I spent the whole time wishing I could run and trying to run, I don’t think that counts. What keeps me running is wanting to eat. I am diabetic and can’t eat very many carbs unless I run, so I sort of have to whether I feel like it or not.
Vacation plans: we are both self-employed and never get a vacation trip. Usually we house and dog sit for a lady with a large house and pool for a couple of weeks in the summer, but she has been ill and is selling her house, so that’s no longer a thing. We may take a trip to Florida to see relatives at some point this year.
Favorite non-running hobby: at the moment we are playing old school pencil and paper d&d - got to talking with my old high school gang long distance and decided to do it out of nostalgia during lockdown, and it has taken off. I also build doll house miniatures (I have a mini sushi bar and a guitar shop) and sew 1/12” scale miniature quilts. Since my husband got a 3d printer for Christmas we have done a couple of interesting things such as a doll based on a scan of his head. Planning to do one for me but will have to design a body for it first.5 -
So, yeah, haven’t posted my last couple of runs because I suck and it’s sad. I am just not running well at the moment - wondering if my stomach bug was actually something more serious. Ran 10k easy pace last Wednesday and it was one of those runs where you pray and bargain the whole way, saying you only have to make it to the next corner and then you will let yourself quit early, but then you don’t quit. The weather was beautiful so I don’t have the excuse of the heat. Then two days rest after which my legs still felt trashed, like I had run a half marathon at race pace instead of a normal easy run.
So Saturday is usually speed work, which for me is a fast 5k with intervals. Did the first mile hard, and it was barely under 10 minutes - felt like a sub 9 minute effort. More praying of the “if I slow down enough maybe I won’t need a walk break” variety. Brought the next two miles in at an 11 minute pace and did my finishing sprint at a lousy 9 minute pace, which should be a 7:30. Seriously wondering if my husband and I had Covid, since he reports feeling pretty much just as bad, and a month ago we were a lot faster than this. Not really any trouble breathing or sore muscles or anything, it’s just like time is broken and running what feels like the same speed is a minute slower.
It was hot today, which didn’t help - temp not that high but heat index 91 and dew point was 76 which falls into “purgatorial” on the how dewpoint affects running pace chart, but I didn’t really feel overheated, just slow. And I don’t usually lose THAT much pace when it’s hot.8 -

Rainy and low 40s F yet again this morning.
Happy Mother's Day to all the moms!!!
I've fallen off many wagons, but the running wagon is not one of them (yet).
When you're retired, every day is a vacation. We saw a goodly portion of the world when I served in the military, so traveling is not something I'm fond of.
Golf and trout fishing keeps me pretty well occupied from spring to fall.

It wound up even colder, windier and rainier than last night's forecast so I wound up having to wear pants when I ran outside today. I was a little slower than expected but I took a route more elevation change, so I can't be surprised. I should probably start tackling hills again soon.5 -
@rheddmobile sorry both you and your husband are feeling so lousy. There are so many things that could cause what y'all are feeling, but I hope you can figure it out and start feeling like your selves again soon.
@AlphaHowls congrats on your running streak recognition! They ought to also recognize that you have run sooooooooo many miles! It's got to be some type of record!
Monthly Questions
When you fall off the wagon, how do you recover?
I'm not hitched to many wagons, but when I have to get off the running wagon due to injury, I try to take just a few days off, then get back on slowly. Sitting around has never helped me get over an injury.
Vacation plans this summer/season?
We actually are planning a trip to Gulf Shores Alabama in July with many family members from around the country.
Then in October I am going to Peachtree Georgia for my annual 15K race. It was cancelled in 2020, so this will be the 40th annual race.

When you fall off the wagon, how do you recover?
Running? I tend to use C25K to get me out there and moving. Usually it's due to weather or injury.
Diet? I put it behind me. log it. move on. Careful not to restrict so I stay off the rollercoaster.
Vacation plans this summer/season? None but I don't usually travel anyway.
What is your favorite non-running related hobby? Riding and being around my horse Bandit
@swenson19d if you get a replacement hip do you think they will allow you to run with it? I know SO many orthopods and they all frown whenever I saw I am a runner. I need to find the 'sports' one I guess next injury.
@AlphaHowls Your HM and running streak is incredible!!! I am only slowly working my way to maybe running a half this year on my birthday. maybe.6
