So I think 25 miles was a little abitious for my first month so I am bringing it down to 20. I am super new and started c2k last month but I am only adveraging 1-1.78 miles 3 days a week ... So doing the math I don't know where I thought I was going to complete 25.
Thank you for all the suggestions/advice last month about being a new runner. They were all extremely helpful and I can't wait to be a seasoned as the rest of you.. some of you are truly inspirational.
This month I am continuing on my personal building and am going to try and check in every day
.. I couldn't believe how fast the posting happens lol8 -
Your GC hike sounds awesome @Teresa502
Congrats on the 5k @pabmac
Great running @ContraryMaryMary I tend to stick to planned routes also.
Welcome @Juliexx00
Great running consistency and planning @abowersgirl. You will be cranking out regular 5k's before you know it.4 -
6/1 - 3.36 miles, easy effort (45 mins Z2)
Total: 3.36 miles
Goal: 105 miles
Official kick off for June running for me here.
Not much to say about today's run.
Hope everyone has a great month ahead!4 -
Woke up late this morning and didn’t even have time before work to walk the pups. I probably won’t run later either and though it doesn’t hurt I probably should give the ankle a little rest today.
@rheddmobile I can’t believe the caregiver had a heart attack, how awful. Keeping you all in my prayers.
@quilteryoyo @WhatMeRunning @Teresa502 @katharmonic thank you so much! My boss was telling me there was a segment on the local news about where I fell and how hard it is to get people out. He said they showed them in the kobota and he said he had a whole new appreciation for what I went through.
@Teresa502 Skip and I went to the Grand Canyon a couple years ago we loved it so much. The hike sounds amazing.
@pabmac great job on the 5K
5 -
@rheddmobile sorry for what you are going through. Hugs
@Teresa502 Grand Canyon hiking sounds so awesome! I have never been, but always wanted to go.
Congrats on the 5K @pabmac!
Welcome @Juliexx00!
I posted this on the May thread this morning 🙄(smh). Thanks for looking out for me @quilteryoyo!@rheddmobile sorry for what you are going through. Hugs
6.2 miles to start off June. It has been raining since Friday, so quite surprised it wasn't raining this morning, so was able to run outside. It was better than the treadmill, but still felt like a slog.7 -
Love early morning running, got out for 11km/6.8 miles this morning. I’m use to using km but notice the majority here use miles. I’m torn lol. I’ll use both. 89km or 55.2 miles to go.5
-
Ran 5.3 miles at the lakeshore park this morning. It was a cloudy but pleasant morning.
@Juliexx00 Welcome!
8 -
Hi everyone. I’ve been absent since March and don’t exactly know why but I got my runners on & got myself out there this evening and it was great. Still aiming for 30 miles. Maybe some month I’ll make it
01/06 2.68 miles11 -
Welcome back @Mari33a2
-
Gosh, this thread is moving fast!
I'm aiming for 120 miles this month and 12,000 feet of Elevation.7 -
@Teresa502 I'm so excited for you too. Can't wait to hear all about the hike and camping. One of my friends was just talking about how our group should do this so I'm especially interested in your experiences. Plus I just hope you have an amazing adventure.
Welcome to @runsrunsruns and @Juliexx00! And welcome back @Mari33 - great to see you.
@pabmac that's fantastic, congrats on a first 5k in 10 years!
You're doing great @abowersgirl. Keep going!
Date :::: Miles :::: Cumulative
06/01/21 :::: 3.1 :::: 3.1
Starting the month with my usual route with my usual friend for our usual 5k. It was a nice day but the humidity really snuck up on me.
11 -
You're welcome @Scott6255 !
Nice run @Juliexx00 !
Welcome back @Mari33a . This is the month you will make it!
Today's HM plan called for an easy run or cross training (the AF plan is a rest day). I worked at the daycare until 4:30 today, got home, took Tippy for a walk, for my streak, and then mowed my yard. Didn't get in the house until after 8 pm.
1.00/30 miles walked
0.00/70 miles ran
Mowing - 2:04:21 h:mm:ss (no goal, just to keep things looking decent)
My encounter with wildlife today is under the spoiler.On my way to town today, I glanced down and saw something on my pant leg. It's cicada season in Tennessee! It must have gotten on there when I got out at the post office and I didn't notice. I didn't want it flying around in the car, so pulled off at the nearest parking lot, got out, and swished him off.11 -
So many newbies to the group - Welcome, Welcome!
@Mari33a - welcome back!
@Teresa502 - I hope you have a wonderful trip and that the weather holds and isn't too hot or too cold! Do they have tents for you or do you have to bring your own? I have been there many times but have never hiked it. There is also a rim to rim ultra run that I have read about but couldn't imagine ever doing it.
@pabmac - Great job on the 5K!
@runsrunsruns - I will echo what others have said, take your comeback slow, use a program like C25K and you will get there. Also make sure you build in sufficient rest and some cross training. It will help ensure you don't get injured again.
1st of the month landed on a cross training day for me so I got in a good strength training workout of upper body and core work, along with some squats and lunges and wrapped it all up with some PT exercises. I suspect I may be sore tomorrow.9 -
@quilteryoyo You're so right! "Last year's me" was sitting on the couch w/ an Xbox controller in one hand and a family-size bag of jalapeno potato chips in the other. Mmmmmm... jalapeno.
And I'm dreading cicada season. "Hey Google, add earplugs to shopping list."Hey everyone! My goal this month is 50kms. And I just ran my first 5k in 10 years today! 🥳I really like your username.
And hey, great 1st run! Longing for the day when I too can go 5mi non-stop.I'm getting excited too! And a little nervous. This hiking and overnight camping is new to me but I'm jumping in with both feet!sweetdaisy13 wrote: »I'm aiming for 120 miles this month and 12,000 feet of Elevation.
Those are some BIG numbers. I don't envy you, esp regarding the elevation. 12k feet! I once took a carbureted motorcycle over a pass in CO. I think it was the Continental Divide? Must have been 10k feet? The air was SO thin, the carburetor couldn't compensate for the lean O2. And then I got light-headed after simply pushing my overloaded bike across a tiny parking lot at the scenic overlook. Crazy to think ppl run at those altitudes.6 -
Runs: "Houston, we have a problem."
Ground Control: "Roger. What's the issue?"
Runs: "Umm, it's my sports briefs. They no longer fit."
GC: "Weren't you issued super stretchy underwear?"
Runs: "Yes!"
GC: ???
Runs: "It appears an 85/15% (Nylon/Spandex) blend has LIMITS... limits which my buttocks now exceed!"
At least my feet haven't expanded. My brand new, bargain bin, Nike Pegasus 37's in sz. 9 fit like a glove.
The last time I bought dedicated running shoes? Uh, zero-drop, minimalist running was the rage, and the hardest of the hardcore were running in Vibram FiveFingers
05/01 :: 2.22 mi :: C25K W1R1 \ 13:49 pace @ an absurd 164bpm considering it's a 3:1 Walk/Run prg10 -
PSA: Since this is a Health & Fitness forum and summer is fast approaching, I thought I'd pass this along. Recently a independant lab that tests medications for harmful substances decided to test several hundred sunscreens. They found benzene, a highly carcinogenic substance, in 27% of them. A number of products exceed FDA safety limits... although why benzene is in ANY product designed to prevent cancer is beyond me.
This is a link to their report petitioning the FDA for a recall. A detailed list starts on pg 12. I had the CVS brand in my medicine cabinet which I threw out.

June Goal: 116 Miles
6/1: 6.10 miles
6.10/100 miles completed for May
I started June off with 6.1 miles. I enjoyed the run. It was very humid, but the temperature was bearable. There were lots of puddles, but all the streets were passable. We had so much rain yesterday that there was flooding and some people had to evacuate their homes. A few of the intersections I usually run through were flooded, but they were ok today. The creek was still over it's banks though. Hopefully the water won't rise too much tonight and we'll get a break from the rain.
Welcome to all the new group members and welcome back @Mari33a !
@Teresa502 I've really only been through Longview. It's about 4 hours east of me.
2021 Races:
4/24/21: Run For The Children 10K PR 55:46:28.
11/6/21: Run For 57th AHC Half Marathon

Welcome newbies and oldies coming back!
First run of the month done, 6.99km 🙄🤦 yes that number annoys me but I can accept it.
Todays run was 30 mins at race pace. It was more challenging than I expected. Mostly because I was so hungry (ran fasted).
The thing I'm really struggling with atm is cross training. I haven't done any in weeks. So tomorrow I am getting on my bike. No ifs, buts, or maybes.
Unless it's cold, and I'll sleep in... No no i will I promise!10 -
sweetdaisy13 wrote: »I'm aiming for 120 miles this month and 12,000 feet of Elevation.
Most of my runs are trail/mountain runs @runsrunsruns and 12,000 feet is my total Elevation gain challenge for the month.
I'm running an ultra marathon on 13th June, which will be 50 k/31 miles and it has 7,000 feet of elevation, so will be tough. Just bought myself some poles for the race as I feel I may need them.8 -
Still here, still running. Not finding much time to post but think of all of you on every run! May’s goal was 60 and I managed 70, so I will split the difference with a goal for June of 65.
Off the mark with 4 miles on a very hot London morning. Schools are closed this week for half term and it is glorious weather. I have to go for a scan 4 miles away in the centre of the city and may walk it for another 8 miles today. Sooo hot though... 😓

...Heading to the Grand Canyon on Sunday for a rim-to-rim hiking trip...
@runsrunsruns if the accountability to a certain goal here helps, use it! If it stresses you out, join us for the fun conversation and mutual support. All are welcome, and goals can be adjusted to fit you.
@rheddmobile wow - I'm sorry you're going through all that.
@quilteryoyo good job throwing out your new friend after he tried to join you for a ride
Yesterday I biked in the morning, then ran a track workout in the evening when the other girls couldn't come for group run. I think I needed the track workout, although I can't say it was my favorite thing to be doing WHILE I was doing it.
I should probably go for an easy-ish run today, but got busy with work stuff after school drop-offs and haven't gone running yet, despite being in running clothes...10 -
Distance Log:
6/2 2.50 miles
June: 2.50/30 miles
So neat to hear (and see!) where everybody else is going, whether it's for runs, hikes, or whatever else!5 -
Goal: 60 miles
May 1 – 5.28 miles (Biking 12.24 miles)
May 2 – 5.17 miles
Welcome @Juliexx00! Feel free to use miles or kilometers – whichever is easiest for you!
Good to see you back @Mari33a and @Faebert!
@shanaber – the guide company we are using provides a guide for our group of five people, tents, sleeping bag, sleeping pad, backpack and trekking poles. I’m taking my own sleeping pad and backpack but using their sleeping bag (professionally dry cleaned after each use), tent and poles. There are two guys in my area who ran the rim-to-rim-to rim last week. Crazy people! I plan on savoring and enjoying every step!
@kgirlhart – flood waters scare me. I have recurring nightmares about getting trapped in a car in them. Enough that I purchased one of those tools that can cut your seat belt and break the glass. Probably doesn’t help that our home got flooded when I was 12 years old. The water got up to the door knob on the front door. We also got caught in a flash flood once when traveling and had to go up a side road to escape the flooding and wait for the waters to recede. I remember then seeing a little pick-up truck that got washed downstream.
@sweetdaisy13 – You’re going to do great with your 50k! You’ve been training so hard!
Thinking of you @rheddmobile and hope things are going better in your world.
This morning’s run was a struggle fest. Just felt tired from beginning to end but a chatty friend kept me company so we made it to the end. This friend is actually a third cousin and goodness gracious the girl talks non-stop. It works for me because it distracts me and I just have to grunt a response every now and then which is usually all I can manage anyway while running. Thanks everyone for indulging me and my hiking talk and all the good wishes!!
12 -
Hahaha @runsrunsruns ! Hope you got the problem taken care of.
That's a lot of water @kgirlhart ! I hope it receded and not too many homes were affected. Of course, if there was just one and it was yours it's bad. Glad you had a nice run.
hahah @Avidkeo ! I hope you manage to get on your bike and have a nice ride tomorrow. That number would have annoyed me. I would have taken those extra 10 steps to get a round number.
@polskagirl01 At least you have/had your running clothes on. That's often half the battle. I hope you were able to get out for a run.
@Teresa502 Sometimes it's nice to have chatty friends that you don't have to really respond to. Glad you did the run, even if it was a struggle.

Today is Global Running day get your run in! Our local Fleet Feet has a run set up for tonight.
Welcome back @mari33
Oh heck no @quilteryoyo I would wreck if that was on me in the car ha ha. One time a wasp was flying around in my truck and I just stopped on the 2 lane highway and got out…leaving Skip in the back unable to escape LOL
@sweetdaisy13 it does move along doesn’t it awesome elevation you’re looking at
@runsrunsruns ha ha!! Thanks for the link
@kgirlhart that’s a lot of water
@Teresa502 can I be rude enough to ask how much something like that costs?
So Skip has decided to train for a sprint Tri, 5K, 750m (.46 mile) swim and 20K(12.4 mile) bike ride. Since she works for Fleet Free the training program is free to her. She has a mountain bike ha ha, hopefully someone can loan her something better to ride, but she has already done 10 miles on that bike so I’m sure she’ll be okay. The goal race is in August. Has anyone done one that can give her tips? She came home without her bike last night she left it at the bike shop for a tune up. Some of you might remember we found her bike in the trash on the side of the road and the same shop gave it a tune up. Evidently she has done some damage to the gears, she’s loaned it to friends in the past so that might be the problem.

In for 110 miles I have a half on July 10, so final push to be race ready.
June 2 - 5.27 miles
June Goal - 110 miles
Miles to go - 104.73 miles8 -
May 16.35
So off to a good start I am currently doing C25k so it isn't a jogging all the way but I did complete my first 6 min (5-6-5) straight run yesterday and will be doing 8 min (6-8-6) tomorrow .. so I am slowly accumulating the straight jog. I am surprised by how fast this program moves. A little nervous about it but to be honest, I have never thought I would get this far into it.. so...
I do find doing morning jogs are a lot easier then night ones.. for some reason I gas out faster at night and I get cramps half way through. Live and learn.

Decided to kick off the month and global running day with a 10k. 6.2 miles out of somewhere between 80 and 100. It's a moving target.10

The primary ingredients in chemical based sunscreens to avoid are oxybenzone, aminobenzoic acid and trolamine salicylate. The first 2 are benzene derivatives and they can all be absorbed into the blood stream.
