Welcome @runsrunsruns @pabmac @juliexx00 @Ninaeveryday
Good to see you @mari33a
@teresa502 I can’t wait to see GC pics. That trip sounds so cool! Also, I was born in Longview! The humidity can definitely be high up there but not as bad as Houston. So silver lining is at least you aren’t in the gulf coast area!
@ContraryMaryMary I change routes up all the time. Like you said, one of the benefits of running in suburbia is options. At this point I know the distances on so many segments in my neighborhood that if I just don’t feel like going a certain way, or there is water over the sidewalk, or school traffic, etc I just change it and start doing math while running. It usually works out but always takes me way longer to add while running!
@avidkeo That is such a runner thing to do to pause your watch as you are actively having cardiac arrest!

So golf went well; was easy because it's a hilly course and I ride in a cart; and a light rain coupled with guilt for missing Running Day got me out for a nice little jaunt.
@Alphahowls Your wolf is faster than I am... Nice stride, too!!!
When you pop in here claiming your December 2021 mileage, what accomplishments will you have made?

I'm not setting a goal this month. I may not even run much for the rest of the month. My right knee pain is getting worse and I'm about ready to break down and go to the dr. I have questioned if I have a meniscal tear for a few years but it's always been mild enough pain that it wasn't worth it for me to take the time to see anyone. But, it's getting worse and just at the time where the weather is heating up and the humidity is spiking with all the rain. It is hard to want to run in crappy weather with the nagging pain. If I do run, I'm going to keep it short and switch to a walk if my knee is talking to me. And no bouldering since the falls are rough. Only sport climbing for a bit.
My family is leaving for a multiple state/national park hiking trip in a little over a week. We are visiting Badlands, Custer State Park, Yellowstone, and Grand Tetons along with some smaller parks and sites throughout the area over the course of 2.5 weeks. Tons of hiking is happening and I am so looking forward to the beautiful scenery. So, I am going to prioritize walking over the next 10 days or so to give my knee as much rest as I can and see how it does over this trip.12 -
Ran this morning, trying out some alternate routes to the forest. Very pretty day. Got home and hubby was loading up the bikes for a family ride. We tried out a local rail trail. It was very nice, but being a holiday today, was way too packed with people who were enjoying the trail, but not really being aware of their surroundings... so the plan is to go back when there are fewer people around. It looks like a great trail!
Just one scenery pic from the run7 -
01/06 2.68 miles
02/06 2.36 miles
03/06 2.73 miles
Total 7.77 of 30 miles
Sported my new kicks this evening.9 -
Garmin coach timed 10k programme with Amy.
I think it's totally messed up! Today I had another 6.66km run, which was 0.12min/km faster than last weeks. Nice! When I finished this run I had a time trial on the schedule for next week, some intervals and some tempo run. Odd stuff. When I was home this was all gone and the same slow runs as this week were back. Hmmm..8 -

Kind of a slow start to the month but I'm sort of tapering before this Saturday's HM. Ran on the treadmill before strength training. It had just started to rain or I would have run outside instead. All upper body in strength training to save the legs, so now my triceps are complaining. I also got a massage this afternoon which was wonderful. I've only been to this person once before just after I hurt my back but I think she does a great job. Not as deep as some but I didn't want to go too intense today. Next time though I'll definitely have her work some deep tissue.
I'm wonderfully relaxed now and I'm heading out for a drink on an outdoor patio so I can't complain about today!

Thanks to mom’s friend who slept over, we got out early morning for a “long run” or as long as time allowed which turned out to be 5 miles and change, which is an improvement over previous days. I was thinking by now we would be heartily sick of not having time to get to anyplace other than WC Johnson/Cox park but honestly, it was a great run - saw 4 adult deer and a tiny fawn, 4 bunnies, and 3 different varieties of heron, night heron, Great Blue, and least bittern. The bittern was trying to fish at the lake we run around and we kept disturbing him as we ran past so he would take flight to another location, and then we would catch up to him. According to the Cornell bird site they are supposed to be very shy birds, so I’m sure we got on his very last nerve!
It was humid, so humid. I couldn’t wear my sunglasses, they fogged instantly. But considering it was supposed to be thunderstorms we got off easy.
RL belowMy mom is driving me berserk but her friend is helping convince her that having me and my husband as full time servants isn’t going to work as a permanent solution. Friend is an RN with a geriatric speciality and has almost convinced her to try out “respite care” for 30 days, and has advised us that we probably need to start planning to get power of attorney activated, since she is clearly not going to be able to live by herself and is in denial about it.12 -
quilteryoyo wrote: »Way to get out there and get it done, even when you aren't feeling it @kgirlhart . Seems a lot of us missed Global Running Day.
Well, they shouldn't have Global Running Day on a scheduled rest day!!!
Welcome @Ninaeveryday !
Glad you found your groove @Scott6255 ! Nice run.
You're trip is going to be so awesome @Teresa502 ! Just be sure to drink plenty of water/Gatorade.
@martaindale So sorry your knee is getting worse. I hope switching up to walking for a few days will allow you to enjoy what sounds like an awesome hiking trip. Looking forward to hearing all about it when you get back.
Very pretty scenery @polskagirl01 ! I do have a question. Is that someone's private property? If there is a "road" like that, is it open for running/traveling to everyone? Or are you running on a paved road that we can't see?
Nice shoes @Mari33a !
Hummm @yirara . Sounds like coach Amy is a little forgetful. That is weird.
Sounds like a great day @katharmonic !
@rheddmobile So glad you got out for such an enjoyable run! I had to laugh at you getting on the bittern's nerve's. He was probably glad to see you go. Hope you can get things worked out with your mom so that you aren't so stressed out. Sounds like her friend is being a great help. Sometimes, someone other than family can convince you of things your family can't.
Great running for you too @AlphaHowls and @WhatMeRunning !
I actually got up early this morning so I could get my scheduled Hill Repeat run in before taking mom to a cardiology follow-up. Walked one mile total for warm up and cool down. Ran 10 minutes easy, 8 x (30 sec zone 5 uphill/90 sec recovery), 5 minutes easy. Went 2.25 miles about 30 seconds faster than I did the same run last week.
Monthly Totals:
Run: 2.25/70 miles
Walk: 3.00/30 miles

June Goal: 116 Miles
6/1: 6.10 miles
6/2: 5.11 miles
6/3: 5.35 miles
16.56/100 miles completed for June
I ran 5.35 miles today. I had a hard time getting out the door, but I did enjoy it much more than yesterday's run. I think my Noxgear vest has shorted out. Tuesday the lights started randomly blinking so I changed the batteries and yesterday it was fine. But this morning it started flickering and I couldn't turn it off. So I opened it up and when I took the batteries out it was really hot and kind of burned my fingers. Luckily it is getting light earlier and I didn't really need it for most of the run. I really enjoy running in the morning as the sun is coming up. And today I just really got in the zone. I wished I could have run longer, but I had to work. The creek is still up, but it is going down. Lots of debris and some downed trees.
@Teresa502 How scary to have your house flood like that. Floods definitely scare me too.
@runsrunsruns and @shanaber Thanks for the info on the sunscreen. I checked mine and it is good.
That sounds like so much fun @martaindale. I hope your knee feels better soon.
@polskagirl You have some really beautiful places to run.
Nice shoes @Mari33a.
I'm glad you were able to get out for a run @rheddmobile. I hope your mom's friend can help you out.
Way to get up early and get your run in @quilteryoyo. You have really made an amazing recovery from your surgery.

Thanks @kgirlhart ! Glad you enjoyed your run once you got out the door. It does sound like you have a short in your vest. Glad you didn't get shocked or burned. Glad the waters are receding. Floods do leave behind a mess though.2

June Goal 100km
6/1: 11km
6/2: 4.5km
6/3: 5km-short again as the temp was 36C again but is cooling soon so longer runs to come.
20.5/100 km completed for June4 -
Good progress @quilteryoyo on the hill repeats.
I live on top of a hill, so it doesn't matter in which direction I run, I always have a 200 foot climb at the end to get home. I mostly run trail and mountain as I love hills, but they are a necessary evil.5 -
My usual running place is the lakefront park. Usually, I try to start early enough to see the sunrise. But it has been cloudy for the past several days.
6/1 5.30
6/2 10.32
6/3 1.15
6/4 6.37
23.14 / 100 miles.
Hoping everyone has a great day.6 -
@sweetdaisy13 I live on top of a hill too. One of the inclines on my driveway, which undulates, is perfect for a 30 sec sprint. When I get to a longer time uphill, I'll have to run the one on the main road at my driveway. It's a killer to walk up, so not looking forward to that one. LOL3

Mostly cloudy, low 60s F, and humid this morning. Started losing concentration early in kilometer 6, so decided to end it at 6k. Garmin told me I set a new VO2 Max high, but I sure wasn't feeling it.
I saw another of the young women I see often running. She's half my height and twice my speed. Got a laugh out of her with that one.

@quilteryoyo and @skippygirlsmom ye I had to do that for sure. I believe last week I did that right before I was hitting the 6 min mark. Your right, I would rather keep running then be discouraged and stop. I have been known to do that because I keep thinking I can push past my limits (with almost everything.. working out, food restrictions etc etc) and it never works out well so I have been slowly readjusting to a more easier going approach (towards myself)
@katharmonic great picture!!! So cute!!4 -

Goal: 60 miles
June 1 – 5.28 miles (Biking 11.24 miles)
June 2 – 5.17 miles
June 3 – Rest
June 4 – 8.20 miles (0.58 warm-up/cool down walk)
I ran 5 miles with a couple of friends this morning. We started at 5:00 am. Since they have finally re-opened our gyms and locker rooms at work I don’t have to drive to a friends house to get ready before heading back to town for work so with the extra time I ran an additional 3 miles by myself.
Your family vacation sounds fun @martaindale. I hope your knee does well and you enjoy it all! I’ve been watching Dixie hike the Florida Trail. That trail will never ever be on my bucket list! Hiking through swamps in knee deep water with alligators and snakes and leeches? No thank you!
Those are some beautiful fields in your picture @polskagirl01.
Those new shoes look comfy @Mari33a.
Glad you were able to get a run in @rheddmobile. Hope the respite care works out.

I was driving to where Fleet Feet was hosting The Big Run for Global running day on Wednesday and the heavens opened up with thunder and lightning. They turned it into a virtual run instead and you had an extra day to do it.
@katharmonic that deer was standing his ground. I was out with Champ last year and we turned a corner on the trail and there was a herd, like 15 deer. The closest was just like that, I was like holy crap. Champ was like hey what are you and one made a noise like a horse and they all took off. It was beautiful to watch.
@Avidkeo you always pause your watch. When I fell in January and we were driving to the ER Skip said something about her watch still running, I was like what she said please momma don’t tell me you stopped your watch. Ha ha yep first thing I did when I stopped rolling.
@Ninaeveryday you are so right you are so awesome!
Skip and I did North and Bright Angel when we were at GC, it was May so the mornings were beautiful. I agree with @RunsOnEspresso coming up is a *kitten*. But so worth it.
Great wolf @Alphahowls
@martaindale sounds like the best vacation, take care of that knee
Beautiful picture @polskagirl01
Great shoes @Mari33a
@rheddmobile hugs. I took care of my grandmother years ago and I learned really quickly that they act like kids, but you can’t tell them what to do like you do kids. It’s hard for our parents to give up their independence. I’m sorry, I know this is hard.
I don’t know if any of you remember I volunteered last year at a XC meet here in town where some of the best high school runners from all over the country came out. The race director is doing a track meet next weekend. I’m so excited, they are doing 800, mile and 3200. Again the best runners from all over the country. It’s so exciting!!!
Races:
June 5 – Big Run 5K done
November 14 – Battleship 12K

@rheddmobile I'm glad you have access to that friend to help navigate this process with your mom. Sometimes, people take advice from non-family members more easily, or will at least listen to them. I hope you guys get some help soon.
Good work @abowersgirl ! You'll definitely get there, maybe sooner than you think!
@Teresa502 I absolutely agree about the Florida Trail. It looks like a miserable experience.3 -
I got out for a walk this morning before the next rain storm. Even though the humidity is still nuts, it was only 70 F, which makes it almost pleasant. I still end up sweaty after a few minutes but at least I'm not also suffocating in the heat.
I really wanted to run this morning, but I stuck with the walk. I'm trying really hard not to push through the knee pain and convince myself that I should run after all. I am great at pushing through things, probably to my own detriment sometimes. Trying to be good over here.6 -

WELCOME new people!
Today I got up early and drove 50 minutes away to go up a mountain
I mostly power-hiked up. Passed several lodges and lifts bringing people up to enjoy the views. There were people actually biking up, and that did not look fun at all - especially the ones pushing their bikes up. The fun must be in coming back down, and there were side paths for mountain bikes for that purpose. The view at the top was very nice, and I sat there for a few minutes enjoying it before jogging back down. Total 15 km and 700 meters elevation to add to my "collection".View at the top:
Took a picture of this cute little guy thinking he looked harmless, later looked him up, and he might not be harmless after all. Oops.8 -

I think it's a "common european viper/adder" - The "zigzag" pattern on his back is actually part of the Polish name for them. And yes, of the only 4 or 5 types of snakes here, that's the only venomous one! I guess it's not usually life-threatening for a healthy adult, but I'm not volunteering to test that.5 -
Great job @abowersgirl ! 8 minutes is a great accomplishment!
I do remember that @skippygirlsmom . Are you volunteering again? Wasn't there a record broken last year?
@polskagirl01 Nice view. Looks totally worth the climb. I have to say when I started reading the description under the first picture, I hadn't seen the second picture yet. I read, "Took a picture of this cute little guy thinking he looked harmless" as "Took a picture of this cute guy looking at his muscles." LOL I guess the reason I read it that way was because the guy laying by the bicycle was in my vision as I was reading it.
I got up early again this morning, intending to run before heading out for tennis and work. As I lay in bed, I realized I had miscalculated and was NOT going to have time to run, so I just hit the snooze a few extra times before actually getting up. I played tennis with the Friday Chatty group again. I just let Garmin run the entire time from warm up to completion, so it counts the chatty change overs. The total time was 1:51:34 minutes and I burned 316 calories. I thought about doing my scheduled recovery run after I got home from work, but it was 7:00 and I hadn't eaten anything since 12:20 and drank very little. It's so hard to eat right and drink anything when I'm in the baby room. They are so demanding! Anyway, I did do a mile walk to keep the streak going.
Month totals:
Run: 2.25/70.0
Walk: 4.00/30.0
