@Teresa502 can I be rude enough to ask how much something like that costs?
So Skip has decided to train for a sprint Tri, 5K, 750m (.46 mile) swim and 20K(12.4 mile) bike ride. Since she works for Fleet Free the training program is free to her. She has a mountain bike ha ha, hopefully someone can loan her something better to ride, but she has already done 10 miles on that bike so I’m sure she’ll be okay. The goal race is in August. Has anyone done one that can give her tips? She came home without her bike last night she left it at the bike shop for a tune up. Some of you might remember we found her bike in the trash on the side of the road and the same shop gave it a tune up. Evidently she has done some damage to the gears, she’s loaned it to friends in the past so that might be the problem.
We're paying around $1500 per person for our guided trip. Here is a link to the company we're using: https://wildlandtrekking.com/ They also provide the food (I forgot to mention that) and the guide cooks the meals every day and washes the dishes in bleach. Of course we have to carry it in our backpack. They have great ratings on Trip Advisor so hopefully they will be worth it. They have a lot of options for hikes in the GC and other places. It would be much less expensive if you went on your own but you would still need a permit and those are so hard to get. Our first plan was to hike and spend the night at the lodge at Phantom Ranch. We entered the lottery for that numerous times but were unable to secure a spot. We figured since this company made its living securing the permits we might have a better chance using them. We didn't get our first pick which was in May. Next week was originally our back-up date. Even the company has to apply for a permit months in advance. We had to commit and pay a deposit by December 29 in order to enter the lottery for a permit in May. We found out in mid-January that we didn't get the permit for May. We picked some days in June and found out in February that we got that permit.
I just had some friends do a sprint tri this past weekend. My only recommendation is to see if Skip can borrow a road bike. I'm sure she can use her mountain bike without any problem but it's amazing the difference in speed that road tires and a light-weight frame can make.9 -
@runsrunsrunsesp concerning accts that leave literal digital trails (eg. gps tracks) directly our residences & places of work. There are some crazy ppl out there.
@AvidkeoFirst run of the month done, 6.99km 🙄🤦 yes that number annoys me but I can accept it.
Ended up with 10.32 miles this morning.
Hope everyone is having a great day.10 -
@sweetdaisy13I'm running an ultra marathon on 13th June, which will be 50 k/31 miles and it has 7,000 feet of elevation, so will be tough.
I am in awe of people who take on a challenge like that. That is amazing.3 -
Wow! Two pages since I last posted!
I'll go back and catch up.
6/1 - 3.36 miles, easy effort (45 mins Z2)
6/2 - 3.23 miles, tempo run (25 mins Z4 w/7.5 min warm-up/cool-down)
Total: 6.59 miles
Goal: 105 miles
The schedule had a tempo run for Global Running Day.
It sucked.
The tempo run, that is. Global running day is cool.
I am blessed in having developed my cardio to the point that I can maintain within Z4 at a running pace without having to stop to avoid Z5 (as of today's run). On the other hand my muscular endurance at that effort is not yet on par with the cardio as my legs were certain they were dying.6 -
RunsOnEspresso wrote: »Decided to kick off the month and global running day with a 10k. 6.2 miles out of somewhere between 80 and 100. It's a moving target.
Perfect date for a 10K
@abowersgirl if you feel it's pushing you too fast, don't hesitate to repeat a week.3 -
6-1 7k tempo
6-2 rest
June Total: 7k
June Goal: 150k
Celebrated Global Running Day by playing golf instead of running. Golf got moved to today due to Monday being a holiday. I played so poorly I should go out and run. It's cloudy with drizzling rain and a temperature in the upper 60s F.
When you pop in here claiming your December 2021 mileage, what accomplishments will you have made?
PUT THE FUN BACK IN THE RUN!
Return to a good running weight of 175 lbs (second attempt)
2021 Races:
6/26 Direction Up 5k, Solon, OH
7/17 Run of the Ox 5k, Mantua, OH
9/18 5k Run and Roll, Aurora, OH8 -
Seems like every year Global Running Day falls on one of my rest days...and today is no exception.
But great job everyone who got out (or will get out) to run today 👏👏11 -
@Teresa502 thanks for the information, that is really a great price when you consider what you are talking about doing. I spent over $5,000 on our trip to the Grand Canyon when we went 3 years ago for Makayla and myself. We did a lot of things we may never have a chance to do again, we flew over the GC in a small plane (literally 5 of us on it) over to Antelope Canyon and did a rafting trip after Antelope Canyon, it was amazing worth every penny. That itself was over $1,000 for both of us and was one day...a long day but one day. I have a road bike I'm going to try to talk her into riding mine and see if she likes it.9

Late but present! Actually I ran my first June run already, on the morning of the 1st. 5k trails plus walking on the far side of the Wolf River. It was a beautiful morning.
Full time caretaker for my mom at present which is not a sustainable situation, so my goal is just to keep running and not let outside forces stop me. Birthday is the 14th and I already told everyone what I want for my birthday is 8 hours sleep and to be allowed to run 5.3 miles without a guilt trip.13 -
8.1 mile run, slow pace with 608 feet of Elevation. Planned a half marathon, but legs felt heavy, it was humid oursude and I just wasn't feeling it. One of those days I guess.
Didn't realise it was Global Running Day until I synced my Garmin with Strava and saw that I had a Garmin badge.
June cumulative:
8.1/120 miles
608/12,000 feet of elevation7 -
@Teresa502 - that really is a great price considering what is included. I could never get my husband to go but it is something I think I would love to do.
Got my first 'run' for the month in. Well it started out to be a run but ended up as a walk. My hamstring was feeling angry so I did what was right and stopped running and walked my route instead. It was lovely out.
Not a beautiful bird but this is the closest I have ever seen one of these. It is as big as Hobbes the Vizsla and I was very surprised it didn't fly away when I stopped to pull my phone out.

@Teresa502 which trails are you doing in your rim2rim? North & South Kaibab? Be safe. The temps are getting up there. Drink lots of water.
Last July we did North Kaibab down like 3 miles? Then in October we did South Kaibab down about 3 miles. Coming out is a *kitten*.5 -
Third week with Garmin coach Amy in a timed 10k training. This week is still slow runs to build distance. Planned was 4.88km, slow! I ran the fastest 5k since 2016, and it got classified as a treshold run. While it was still around 27C outside. Right. I'm sure that will mess with the programme.
btw, my 10k goal pace is 7:30min/km, the slowest the programme will give me. Tonight I ran 7:28min/km. Only problem is: that is with my phone. My watch undercuts curves and hence the pace is slower. Thus I'll likely never get to goal pace. Though... I might get a foot pod this week or next. Maybe this helps in getting a proper distance on the watch.8 -
Is that a vulture @shanaber?

Short run with Stella this morning, hoping to get it in before it rained. And it ended up not really raining today at all. But I had to work so didn't get back out there anyway. I am kind of tapering before Saturday's HM so lower miles are good with me. Super slow miles with a poky pup such as they were.
I had a close wildlife encounter this morning too. Saw Stella kind of alerting to something and right off to the side of the trail was this deer. She and Stella had a bit of a stand-off and she stamped her front foot at us and held her ground until I started trying to hustle Stella away.

Hey all. Well i used the bike. Yay. Only managed 20 mins before I got bored... And I tried doing weights but I'm just not into it.
I was reading this article today about a lady who cardiac arrested during the Hawks Bay Marathon a couple of weeks ago.

Sha said "“The last thing I remember was feeling light-headed. I pulled over to the side, paused my watch and then the world went black,”
And I laughed, cause I'm impressed she paused her watch!
Yes I work in healthcare, so I have dark humour.9 -
@abowersgirl You're doing great. If you do find that the program moves too fast, there's no shame in repeating a week. That's much better than giving up because you aren't able to do what is asked of you by some random person who has no clue who you are.
@katharmonic Great picture. My guess is, if she was stomping her foot at you that she had a baby hidden somewhere close by.
Nice running/walking/golfing everyone. No time to comment on everyone tonight, but I did like and hug as appropriate.
I have had a really busy day. I managed to get a one mile walk in during the 35 minutes I was home between work and going to Bible Study with mom. So, no running for me yet this month. Hoping to remedy that tomorrow.5 -
4.5 km today
15.5/1006 -
June Goal: 116 Miles
6/1: 6.10 miles
6/2: 5.11 miles
11.21/100 miles completed for June
I ran 5 miles today. I wasn't really feeling it this morning. My stomach was a little queasy and I felt really slow. But I didn't want to take a rest day on Global Running Day. So I got on out there and did it. And I was treated to a really beautiful sunrise so it was worth it.
I am behind on reading again so I am going to have to post this and then go back and catch up with you all.
2021 Races:
4/24/21: Run For The Children 10K PR 55:46:28.
11/6/21: Run For 57th AHC Half Marathon

Way to get out there and get it done, even when you aren't feeling it @kgirlhart . Seems a lot of us missed Global Running Day.2

Well, they shouldn't have Global Running Day on a scheduled rest day!!!4 -
6-1 7k tempo
6-2 rest
6-3 rest
June Total: 7k
June Goal: 150k
Scheduled golf day makes for a scheduled rest day. It's upper 60s F and very humid anyway, so I'd have been tempted to treadmill it.

7 miles this morning. Kept it easy today, trying to find my rhythm. Felt like I was in a groove around mile 4 and it felt really comfortable for the last 3 miles.

Last July we did North Kaibab down like 3 miles? Then in October we did South Kaibab down about 3 miles. Coming out is a *kitten*.
We start out on the North Rim on the North Kaibab trail and then transition over to the Bright Angel trail. We have side trips to Ribbon Falls and also to Plateau Point for the sunset one evening. I must admit that I'm worried about melting into a giant puddle in the heat!4 -
Welcome to all the new folks, and congrats to all for challenging themselves again in June!
6/1 - 3.36 miles, easy effort (45 mins Z2)
6/2 - 3.23 miles, tempo run (25 mins Z4 w/7.5 min warm-up/cool-down)
6/3 - 3.32 miles, easy effort (45 mins Z2)
Total: 9.91 miles
Goal: 105 miles
Temps are getting warmer but I didn't really notice it until after today's run. Mucho sweat! Was a beautiful sunny morning run though.7 -
