My friend has held on over the night, thanks to the steroids, and is a bit easier.
All his friends and family are on a WhatsApp group, so I have been anxiously waiting for an update. It came this morning.
Once I have replied, I have to Mute Notifications as everyone is responding and they have a LOT of friends.
My thoughts are never far away from them at the moment.
DH off to cricket again today. Should be a full day's play, but tomorrow looks like a washout, with very high winds and rain. But things change.
My son rang me this morning to ask if we would take Edie and Bea to school tomorrow, but it really isn't an option for us that day. They have an alternative, with their Italian helper, so it's not that we are letting them down. Of course, we would step in if necessary. He has to go to Scotland suddenly tonight to sign a big deal for his company. DDIL is working from 8 am.
Welcome to the new folks! I don’t do 'Friends' , so don't be offended if I don't respond. Please remember to sign off every time with your easy to remember name, and an approximate location.
With DH out if the way, I'm having chargrilled squid rings for lunch. They are pre -prepared, so I'm not cooking them. Just enjoying them with Peri Peri sauce. My mouth is watering already!
I will make mushroom risotto for dinner and DH can warm his up in the microwave when he gets back. It might be a bit glutinous, but (she shrugs) .....
There is another of the German meet ups in town, but I'm not feeling inclined to go tonight. Not seeing DH all day, weather, food timings with him away.....etc....
Another time.
Much love to all. Must finish my exercises, which I interrupted to have a coffee and then could not resist descaling the kettle. ? ? ?

Beth - Thinking of you on your birthday.

Hi everyone, Thanks to Barbie for starting us off the the new thread.
I can't believe we are into July already. The weather here has turned from glorious sunshine, to cold and wet, we've even had a few spectacular thunder storms. Got caught out on a few dog walks where it started off sunny and ended up with a short downpour.
I've not wanted to walk too far as my knee has been painful and I've had a bit of sciatica too. Had a few sleepless nights so I'm feeling tired and grumpy lately, not sure if going to the doctor will help, they've not done much to help my poor mum who is crippled with arthritis. I keep trying to exercise as best I can but some days it is too painful.
Talking of my mum, I'd better go, I have to get some equipment out of the garage that needs returning to the physio/social care team. Someone came down on another matter to help mum and she mentioned that she still has a few things that were sent to help my dad when he was ill. You would think they'd keep a better check on these things, we've been trying to return them for over a year. Anyway this young woman was on the ball and has arranged for them to be collected.
Take care everyone,
Love from
Viv UK

Beth - Enjoy your birthday in the way that feels best to you. That may be grieving and that's fine. It's sometimes just what we need to feel close to the one we love.
Allie - I know you like inspiring videos, so you might enjoy this one. It's on YouTube and it's called,
The Gathering Room: The Balance Between Boundaries and Generosity.
I hugely enjoyed it.

Morning all! Happy Monday! Quiet day yesterday, but nice, all the same. My DYS (Colin) and I went to the bbq (one of my childcare families). We got there early and it was just us, the little family of five, and a couple that drove up from Kentucky to pick out a puppy! lol There are seven puppies. Brittany Spaniels. Gave both Colin and I a little bit of "puppy fever". There was also a Roxor there, that the owner and Colin drove around and talked about their cars for quite a while. We didn't eat much at the bbq (a slider sized sandwich and a beverage for me). So, we stopped at a food truck called Outlaw Roasted Corn and got some street corn on the way home. SOOOOO Good! We got home and Tim was awake and grumpy. Pretty sure he was in a pissy mood because he is in pain, and not wanting to be around people; and I didn't stay home and be miserable with him. Sometimes I want to clunk him over the head with something heavy. Anyway, he perked up when it got dark and the neighbors all began to light their fireworks. I think a few of the home owners on the lake pooled their $$ and put on quite the show. They were setting them off from the beach and some of those fireworks were HUUGE! First time we have ever seen a fireworks show like that from our own yard! (Usually we have to drive into town). Since the city cancelled the fourth of July fireworks; it sounds like every neighborhood had their own show. Anyway, 5am came early this morning. I hit snooze until 5:30. It should be an easy day, though. Only four kiddos will be here.
Beth- I hope you are able to celebrate your birthday however you see fit. I hope you know that we celebrate YOU! For who you are and the gifts you give to others and the world. I think, that when someone is born who makes the world better for being in it; THAT should be celebrated! (( ))
Looks like it is going to be a lovey, breezy day! ttfn xoxoxo KJ (Kelly)3 -

BETH ~ Happy Belated Birthday Wishes!
KELLY ~ You are a really pretty lady! Glad you enjoyed the fire works. I don't think anyone was setting them off around our neighborhood.
Those puppies look so sweet and snuggily! After being with my son's two dogs this week, I think I realized I don't really want another dog to care for. The big one probably weighs 125 lbs and the small of the two probably 70 lbs. They stretch out on the floor and do not budge. Have to find ways to step over and around.
Happy Monday Ladies!

Kelly … sweet words … thank you. I like the unfiltered photo the best! You are beautiful!
Today we hope to finish opening the pool … getting the pump and filter running. I set a hose in last night to start replacing water and asked my husband to turn it off before he came to bed. He forgot. Now we’ll be pumping water out. 🤦♀️
Have a great day.

Is my age catching up with me? First week back on and only lost .6 pounds. A week of carefully logging and weighing everything leaves me discouraged. I admit that I did go "off" a little bit here and there - a cupcake on two different days not really logged, etc. But still - can that undo 7 days?? I guess it's time to enter half of my exercise calories instead of all of them. Last time I did this I entered all exercise calories for the first 3-4 months.3

Michele - You could watch a very good film called 'Rabbit-Proof Fence'.
I've just rung a cleaning company who put a flyer through our door yesterday. Very reasonable price. They will come and have a look at the house. My husband's and my cleaning has been going well, but I think he would be happy to hand it on to someone else! They also run a pressure washing business.
I must say, my new micro fibre extendable bendy duster is absolutely wonderful. The backs of the sofas have never been so dust free and my picture rails and ceiling lights are happy. Best investment ever!

Losing about that each week is good. You wouldn't want to lose much more that that. And it's especially good for the first week. It takes me a couple weeks before I start losing anything.
Keep up the good work!

I watched the Fourth of July fireworks from the comfort of our deck. They were shot off from Sand Island, across from us. It was the first time for many years. Our sweet dog was terrified of them so we went camping instead of watching fireworks.4

Good for you, Allie.
Happy birthday, Beth. I am sorry it is bittersweet, but totally understandable that it would be.
Glad your move went well, Penny.
Cool that you were able to enjoy fireworks, Katla.
Karen -- did you have a wonky mammogram result? I remember someone else just did.
Lisa -- I am sorry that you are continuing to suffer. I hope you get some relief.
Oh, Carol -- That eye procedure sounds truly traumatic. I'm sorry you had to go through that.
Heather in UK -- Thank you for your words of encouragement and sharing your experiences. I did buy a wig on Saturday. It was pretty expensive, but I decided I wanted it to look as natural as possible. It still doesn't look very natural, although my husband and sons say it makes me look like I did five or six years ago. I guess that's good??? Feeling much trepidation about wearing it in public. But that's a couple more weeks away, I think.
Welcome to the new ones who have joined the discussion recently. I'm here but totally distracted.
My youngest son and husband were traumatized last night. We decided to go to the local baseball field for some baseball (semi-pro? Not an official farm team for anyone anymore.) They were doing fireworks after, so I thought it would be a treat for the three of us. (The two older boys were working). We had fantastic seats, right along the 3rd base line, about three rows up from the dugout. Sometime in the 8th inning, a batter broke his bat and it went flying, up and over the net. All I remember is hearing something coming, so I covered my head and ducked. I felt it whiz past my head and slam into the seat behind me. Apparently, it missed me by an inch or less. People in the seats below were sure I was hit, but fortunately no. What a twist that would have been! Diagnosed with cancer only to be killed at a baseball game by a flying bat. I've been leaning toward dark humor lately.
But the fireworks were lovely, and I adore watching baseball. I'm not sure I'll take hubby next time, if I ever go again. I knew he wasn't a fan of baseball -- not of any sports at all -- but I thought he liked fireworks. He was complaining afterwards about the traffic and said we should have left the show early because "my ADHD was kicking in anyway, and I really wanted to get out of there." Sigh. I hate that so much because I really did have a nice time and thought we were having a great family outing, despite the near miss to my head. But I guess not.
Feeling stressed today, but I am not really sure why. It is going to be a big week, so maybe I'm just anticipating all that I have to do and to have done.
Take care everyone.

Allie - She is my new fave inspiring person! I thought the mummy bear was also something to think about. I am learning a lot.
The cleaning person is coming to see the house on Thursday and will do her first clean next Monday. That's her only slot. I would have preferred Fridays, as prep for guests, but it'll be just fine, I'm sure. We have guests weekend 17th, but others come on weekdays.
Watched a Spanish film I had recorded. Nice when DH is away!
Flea - - My thoughts are with you. If the wig is a bit bulky a hairdresser can layer it back a bit.
DH back in a minute. Gloopy risotto for him. I'm sure he will appreciate it!
Heavy rain and wind tonight.

I don't mind the container ships but its because we had them off the coast of Hammond, and cruise ships too, stopping in Astoria. In this pic is the crazy outline of Whidbey island, the yellow circle is where Oak Harbor is, where we live. There's one whining article about a guy complaining that lives in Freeland WA, a southern city on Whidbey. So the ships must pass Coupeville, and Freeland as they go thru down towards Seattle and Tacoma. We don't hear them. Yay!

Michele--The shifts I work are 12-10 or 8. I do have an evening shift that is 6 hours.
Flea--Sending prayers and hugs. A positive a attitude makes a big difference.
Barbie--My dog would of said shaking and trying to crawl into my mama (me). I am so glad the fireworks are over. They went until after 1 this morning and I had to get up at 430, so short night for all of us.
Carol--Sounds terrible and that they would not make sure you had what you needed is worse. Pray the next one goes so much better. When out to our DGD's last evening for a cookout and fireworks. Several of our grandchildren went together and bought over $2000 in fireworks. I kept my mouth shut as not my money and they all work. But what a waste. We gave home before they lit the big ones as I had to get up at 430. Should of stayed because neighbors kept me awake until late. Short night.
Sharon--Good to see you back, missed you.
Tracey--Thanks for the smile, and at this point I will take about anyone.
RV Rita--What fun!
Beth--Happy b-lated birthday. Hugs I know thoughts of my son come when I least expect and some days are harder than others.
KJ--Love the pictures. Very lovely
Allie--Great start on the walking. I believe you are doing the right thing putting space between you and Jean. Whatever her problems are you desever better.

Oh my goodness. This thread is almost overwhelming. Starting again to live a healthier lifestyle. Don't know how many times I've started before. This time I have a partner in crime, so we'll keep each other motivated and accountable. Nice to meet you all!

Happy birthday Beth. Good luck getting that pool open.
Cool cloudy morning so did some work outside this morning. DD made it safely home last night. Relieved to have her back. She is off work today but goes back tomorrow. Says she is jetlagged but had a wonderful time in Iceland. I have seen some of her pictures but there are still many more.
Everyone take care Sue in WA6 -
Happy Monday! Had one of our employees just dump off all his keys and uniforms this morning and left a letter of resignation taped to the door....so now everyone else has to scramble to pick up his slack. How's everyone else's Monday starting?5
