@rheddmobile yikes! Those are really hot temps, no matter which weather station you listen too. It feels so much hotter than the reported temp because (in addition to the humidity and dewpoint factors) the air temp is taken in the shade. And I doubt you are running the majority of your runs in the shade!
And thanks for the nut education!
@kgirlhart sorry your hip is giving you problems. Hope it isn't a long lasting issue.
6 miles this morning. Mondays always seem to feel hard. I told myself it was going to be a slow recovery run, and my upper half listened. My average HR was only 119. But my legs didn't get the memo. They felt like lead, and both shins hurt with every step. But it wasn't the normal shin bone pain. It feels like high muscle soreness, close to the knee. Not sure what that is, but just going to continue the slow jogging until it goes away.
ETA: Oh, that makes 12 months straight of 100+ miles. Amazing what consistency will do for you!7 -

Haven’t logged on in a few days. I’ve been cranky so keeping to myself. One I need to lose the 50 lbs I gained so I cut my calories and started counting, of course I cut them way too much so I feel like *kitten* while I’m running, I’ve upped them starting today to 1680 and we’ll see where I am from there. Maybe I need to get up earlier and get something in my stomach before I run, I did take a gui and some pretzels ha ha no Bueno. Second my car is in the freaking shop again the transmission went, I can’t even think about what that is going to cost me. So I spend the weekend alone feeling sorry for myself. Okay enough of that, it is what it is.
On a good note I did my August HM for my virtual challenge.
@quilteryoyo the worst is when you stop it’s like someone open a faucet over my head and it just pours off. Ugh I use a Nathan vest Trail 7L and love it. Sorry the HM went virtual.
@katharmonic I use a couple of apps too. Sometimes when I know I’m off and pull it out I’m like WTH how did I get over here. I do love looking at my strava after I’m been lost and walking in circles it’s hysterical.
@ContraryMaryMary glad you were able to get an appointment for your “jabs”.
Hi @steviebee888 welcome to our group. We are a fun bunch. All 50 states that is so awesome. Hope the hip is feeling better soon.
@RunsOnEspresso come on girl little at a time.
Thanks @Teresa502 she is having fun. Saturday they practiced at the scrimmage she was on top of the stadium sending me pictures. This week she does volleyball and soccer.
Hey @7lenny7 glad to see you back, the summer heat sucks. Kody is such a beauty, can’t believe he’s 13. Macy, my Labradoodle has hip issues too and she’s only 10. It’s hard on them.
@kgirlhart happy anniversary a bit late

Stretched a bit this morning and went out for scheduled 5 miles to do as much as I could. I went slow and after every mile I stretched. Finshed all 5. Felt tight, not painful this morning. Stretched and iced when I got home.
99/192 (so close to 100 ugh!)8 -
Speaking of spider webs, I'm not sure I mentioned this a few weeks ago, but there were a bunch of them that morning in the forest, and I somehow ran into one with my FACE, and as I was wiping it off, realized I had the spider on my face as well 😱. I was surprisingly calm in the moment, but got more and more horrified the more I thought about it afterwards.
Maybe I should stop with my forest stories, before you all get scared off of trail running, haha.10 -

Nothing worse in the world than spider to the face.3 -
Great running @sweetdaisy13
I think I am starting to get why some of you have been complaining about the heat. I was soaking wet just from a WALK this morning. I don't know how you crazy runners do this crap to yourselves, you must be a special crazy breed or something! You won't catch me doing that for the time being, no sir! 🤪
Hope your shin/knee pain is nothing more than a one-run nuisance @Scott6255
Sorry to hear about all of the stress @skippygirlsmom I hope you have easier (and less runger-filled) days ahead.
Good to hear your run today was pain free @RunsOnEspresso and bonus for being able to celebrate 100 with fresh legs at the one mile mark on your next run!
As much as I detest webs, spiders don't actually bother me. Except when they're on my face. That's definitely a problem.7 -

I'm looking at going back to Nike from Brooks. Does anyone run in fly knits? Do you still go up half a size? My last nikes were in like 2013 and not fly knit.0

Hi @shanaber ! My intention was to breed Kody so we'd have a pup around the time he was 10 but it became apparent that having a dog won't work for what we want to do in retirement. We want to do too much traveling and sailing and I wouldn't feel right kenneling a dog that much. I love dogs, especially labs, but I feel terrible every time we have to kennel him. I did find a great person to take him to on Rover.com but I can't count on her being available for the lifespan of another dog. I am trying to talk my son into getting a lab so we still have a dog for hunting, and for me to take running, but he's in a small apartment and not ready to be tied to dog yet.
Hi @katharmonic @RunsOnEspresso @Avidkeo @kgirlhart and @skippygirlsmom !!
@runsondiesel I hope that hip pain resolves quickly. Glad the last run was better.
@quilteryoyo I notice you do a lot of driveway laps. I'm curious, why is that? Do you have a long driveway?
@rheddmobile I can't imagine someone thinking they could take a dog for a walk on asphalt on such a hot day! At least they picked it up. Interesting info about nuts!
No running for me over the weekend. We got up early Saturday to take my son back to college for his sophomore year. On the way there the air conditioner went out in my truck. I knew what the problem was, a ground wire on the compressor case with a bad connection. I pulled over, took out the screw, wiped it off and put it back in. It worked for about 30 minutes so I gave up and will try to fix it in the next day or two. Thankfully it only reached the mid 70's that day. After dropping him off in South Dakota we drove all the way across Minnesota to our boat. Spent the night there and had PERFECT day for sailing yesterday. Perfect wind, steady wind, mid 70's, a clear sky, and some good friends to join us. We ended up sailing two hours longer than we had planned. The downside to that is that I wasn't able to run when we finally got home. I'm happy with the tradeoff though.10 -

I run in a couple styles of Nikes and the only one I had to go up on for half a size was a specific model. If you are buying them through the Nike website you can read the comments to see if model you want runs small.3 -
@skippygirlsmom sorry for all your stress and 'hangryness'. I get that way too. Hope you get adjusted to the calorie deficit soon. If not, I would up it a couple hundred and see if that helps.
@RunsOnEspresso glad your pain subsided and hope it stays away.
@polskagirl01 you can't stop running in the forest. We would all miss out on your adventurous stories2 -
@skippygirlsmom I so hear you on that elusive balance of the right amount of nutrition - I almost always am overdoing it one way or the other. Neither extreme helps get rid of extra weight. And under-fueling also makes me very grumpy. Sigh.@polskagirl01 you can't stop running in the forest. We would all miss out on your adventurous stories

So, I am still here, but quiet, confused, depressed, feeling a little lost. Just when I think, "I got this" someone changes the rules, plans and just end up treading water. Each day I wonder/wander what is happening and where am I going?

Thanks! Not sure why I didn't look at reviews 🤦🏼♀️ Nike says true to size but most reviews say they run small and go up half a size.1 -
6 hot and sweaty miles. It felt good though, and the run part of the run/walk intervals are ever increasing. That's 54 miles for the month, just 6 more to hit my goal.
Tomorrow morning looks promising for a run in the rain. Keeping my fingers crossed!7 -
@skippygirlsmom sorry to hear about your car issues - I found out I need a couple thousand worth of repairs also. So not what I wanted to hear right now. Hopefully finding a better balance with your calories will help you out. It's hard for sure. Good job on getting your half done for August. Looks like we did them the same weekend again.
@AlphaHowls big hugs to you. I'm sorry you are feeling down and lost. You are so strong, Be kind to yourself and take care of yourself.

No run again yesterday. Today was not looking great as I got out of work later than I hoped and needed to be at the gym for strength training. I took Stella out with me because she also needed a walk, so I did a slow run for a little out and back in the woods with her for 1.6 miles. Then I went to the gym and got on the treadmill to add a little more before class.
The monthly total is not looking good. I am super busy at work this week and next, and I've got another big hike planned this weekend so it's not looking good for much mileage before the end of the month. I'm trying to be at peace with the fact that this year/summer is not about running miles.7 -
@kgirlhart I think that was a great run in those conditions. Hopefully your next run will be a lot better and help get your confidence back.
@rheddmobile That heat is horrible! I thought it was hot here. Nothing like that. I didn't realize that pecans and walnuts were hickory either. I have lots of walnut trees in my woods and other hickories too. So, I learned something also.
@Scott6255 Your HR was really good. Sorry your legs didn't get the memo. Congrats on making 100 miles already this month and a year of 100 miles/month. That's awesome.
@skippygirlsmom Hope you figure out the nutritional balance and are feeling better today. Nice on getting your HM in over the weekend.
@RunsOnEspresso Glad you got your run in with no pain! Hope it stays that way.
@polskagirl01 I don't think I've ever actually had a spider on my face, but I have imagined they are there after running into a web.
@WhatMeRunning Hahaha I've been known to drip sweat from a fast walk too, definitely worse when I run in it though.
Sounds like a wonderful weekend @7lenny7 ! Nice run today. Yes, my driveway is a quarter of a mile long. When I do laps, I usually go a little bit past half way, because that last portion is a steeper hill I don't feel like climbing every lap. My laps end up being a little over 0.3 miles. It is lined with trees, so when it is really hot and sunny, it is at least in the shade. But, because I still do two hills, it makes me slower than when I run out the local road - which is hilly, but not that bad. I do a lot of walking up those hills during my runs....but, they are perfect for hill repeats.
@AlphaHowls Sorry you are having such a hard time right now. I hate it when I feel like I am floundering around with no direction. I hope things calm down for you soon. Thanks for the idea about the KY HM. I'm tempted, but I think I had decided to run the AF HM virtually. I really want it to be my first one and, if I ran it virtually in conjunction with another one, would it really be the first?
@katharmonic You are doing so much hiking, you shouldn't worry about your monthly total. It's not like you are slacking or anything!

I'm with some of the rest of you and am not going to be even close to making my monthly goal. Part of that is because I miscalculated - counting running on Friday's which I normally don't do. Oh well. I'm sticking with my HM plan pretty well. Having said that, I was supposed to do a tempo run today. I had way too much other exercise for a run today. Hopefully I can get it in tomorrow. I played singles tennis with a friend this morning. Then, when I got home, I blew the little pieces of hickory nuts off of my porches (from the squirrels having their fall feast), went down and helped trim my mom's lawn by doing the push mowing, came home and mowed my own lawn. When I was getting in the shower, I thought...oh shoot. I didn't do my walk. I sure didn't want to sweat anymore, so I did a mile on the treadmill while watching Wheel of Fortune at a slower than normal pace - 3.5 mph. I was active for 4:55:20 h:mm:ss today! Only burned 1,135 calories. Doesn't quite seem fair, does it?
I was telling the lady I played tennis with about my HM going virtual and thinking about running it on the Tweetsie Trail. She volunteered to take her bike up and bike with my while I run! That should be fun. So, that is my current plan for the HM.9 -
Good morning everyone. Sorry I have been MIA but I started to feel my shoulders and my neck were out of whack. It must have been the fall I took. So I rested for 4 days. I felt good this morning so I decided to get back at it. Today’s plan was a long run for 2 miles. It felt pretty good. When I checked my heart rate my Fitbit measured the high was 191. So the 4 days off kind of messed with my fitness level. I’m sure that I will be back down by the end of this week.

Tomorrow the plan calls for a cross training day. I’ve caught up with all that you guys have been doing the past 4 days. So I’m going to get myself to start commenting on your post from now on. I have a question for you all “Do you just start running right away or do you warm up first before you start running?” I’ve just lately start out with running but I’m feeling that maybe that’s wrong and that I should start out with a 5 minute walk warm up before my run.4
