I started to update this yesterday but got sidetracked and never did. The plan yesterday was for 3 miles so that was what I ran. I couldn't keep my pace up though. My hip is still bothering me so I decided to take today and tomorrow off and see if that helps. I don't think that running is causing the problem. It seems to be triggered by driving a lot (Which I did the last couple of weeks) or sitting a lot(whichI do at work). But I think running probably doesn't help. And it's early enough in the training that taking a few days off now won't hurt. I did walk this morning. I figure that walking is low impact and moving seems to help. I'm hoping that a few days of rest is all I will need. The HM isn't until November 7, so I should have time.

I’ve been reading but haven’t had time to comment.
Mad, mad, mad week here.
- Lockdown level 4, means everyone’s home - yay homeschooling, yay mess.
- Magazine deadline Friday, then in design this week, and a monster 104 page edition to boot.
- House auction scheduled for today, went ahead as an online event. We sold!!!
- Lots of gentle runs, six days in a row, culminating with 800m repeats today to make sure I’ve earned my rest day (and champagne and pizza).
Next week promises to be much more gentle and way less stressy!8 -
Congrats on selling your house @ContraryMaryMary!
Glad your run was pain free @shanaber!
@kgirlhart hope the rest will help heal your hip!
@7lenny7 I do a few of those mountain legs before each run, but 50 would put me in the hospital 😁

We miss you @ContraryMaryMary and hopefully normality (whatever that is) returns soon!
Feeling your pain @WhatMeRunning and @kgirlhart though my pain seems to be coming from my cheeks (the lower ones!) rather than my knee now - this will get better!!!
It looks like the weather is still playing havoc with us. In the UK it is that we haven't had a summer and the trails are still waterlogged. It was good fun out on the mountain bike though.
I have decided to make some serious mileage in September no matter how the body complains and assess it from there.
You are all very inspiring so please keep it up!!!

5 miles this morning. Legs continued to feel good, but I am sure the knee straps are what is keeping the pain away. I'm ok with wearing them for the short term, but hope to ween myself off of them soon. The first 4 miles felt fairly easy for 82F, 70% humidity and 0 wind. But the last mile I remembered to stand up straighter, lead with my hips, and bring my belly button toward my spine (thanks for the reminder @rheddmobile). When I do all that, my legs don't feel like they are working at all. They are just there to keep me from falling on my face. That is a good feeling. Driving to Houston tomorrow, and plan to run down there Saturday morning.7
-
@scott6255 Good news that you ran without pain! What trail do you like to run when in Houston?
@polskagirl01 That dude sounds creepy. I feel like I’m jinxing myself but I have never lost a toenail. I was a ballet dancer and now a runner and rock climber, all sports where toenails can be a problem and never even had one look concerning.
@7lenny7 I’m going to try that out. I like that it is quick and doesn’t need any equipment. I’m so much more likely to do a workout if it’s easy to get it done and I don’t have to drag out gear. I have a knee that may not love those motions, but maybe incorporating some of it will also build up the muscles supporting that knee and actually make it feel better. I think I subconsciously baby that knee a little and there may be some supporting muscle weakness.

Congratulations on your home sale @ContraryMaryMary!
Glad your knees are doing better @Scott6255. Hope you have a great visit to Houston. It’s always fun to run in a different place!
@7lenny7 – I’ve seen that video before. Not sure if it was linked here or in some challenge that I did. Thanks for sharing and reminding me of that torture form building exercise!

He suggests 50 times per leg on the second part but I was only able to do 25 before I had to take a break. I'd seen this video before and kind of dismissed it because it looked too simple, but yeah, I can see (feel?) that this would work wonders for running up, and down, hills.

I'm gonna try that. Tomorrow.

@martaindale my daughter lives across the street from the Terry Hershey Park path (parallels Memorial Dr.) I usually run an out and back on the section between Hwy 6 and Sam Houston Tollway1

Good morning everyone. Today’s training called for a tempo run. I warmed up by walking 5 minutes. Then I did 10 minutes conversational pace. Then 10 minutes tempo speed (for me it was not so fast but I tried my hardest to speed up a little). Then 10 minutes back to conversational pace. Ended with a 5 minute walk cool down. My left hip is bothering me a bit. I notice it most when I get out of the car (which sits low). I think I am going to invest in foam roller to help.

Tomorrow’s training is cross training which for me is brisk walking. Hope you all have a happy running day. 😁6 -

I think I would lose my tiny mind stopping a run at 3.07! The OCD would just kill me.1 -

It evens out with the 4.93 a few days earlier
Haha, seriously, I've been known to go past my house and up a hill to get to the next kilometer when it's that close. Usually it doesn't bother me though.3 -

Same. I hate plans that are by time because I have to keep going for a nice mileage number

Thanks @scott6255, @themrwobbly and @teresa502. I still do yoga regularly and I have been doing more 'hip' yoga the last few days. I hope that resting it will do the trick. It does seem to be improving.

Different day. Same exercise. Just didn't have time for more since I worked until 5:40 today. At least I'm getting in a good fast walk - 3.9 mph. Tomorrow is looking like a very busy one too. I hope I can get in a little bit of a run, but that may not happen. Life certainly is keeping me from making my goal for the month.5 -
Hot again. Heat index was 112 when we set out and dropped to only 104 by the time we finished!
5 miles trails. Needed someplace shady because of the heat so we went to WC Johnson which is all woods. Doing the same trudge around the loop we have done so often seemed really boring so we did one of the primitive trails first, then picked up the other trail. The primitive trail is basically a deer track - in fact I think it is a deer track, but recently the park service cut some large trees which had fallen and put blazes back there, so it sort of resembles a human trail now. 😝 according to Strava heat map we are about the only people who run back there. I can’t tell if it’s because all the switchbacks don’t pick up well on GPS or what, but every time we run it, we run what feels like our usual “easy, but on unfamiliar trails with lots of dips and roots” pace, which is normally about 12 or 13 minute miles, and strava gives us 15 minute miles - which isn’t really possible, that’s a walking pace, and I know we are going faster than a walk! Anyway it was a good thing to run a more technical trail today, helped us to slow down and beat the heat.
We walked twoish miles as a cool down and I picked up assorted hickory nuts to see what sort of trees are back there. Basically any nut that looked different from the ones I had picked up already. I ended up with about ten different nuts with the husk still on, one is definitely a black walnut, one is a mockernut, one is bitter hickory, and there’s a pecan. The other ones I am going to look up tomorrow. Also, there’s an oak tree right at the steps to the boardwalk which has the largest acorns I have ever seen in my life. They’re ping pong ball sized, it’s absurd. The oak itself looks like a normal red oak tree, big and old, but otherwise not notable.7 -

I was so close to that 6 mile mark! Ah well, next time. Been reading and liking the thread and hurriedly getting ready for school to start. I felt like my run went really well today, but I'm thankful that nobody could see me when I got dive bombed by a cicada. I almost screamed, but didn't - just flailed my arms all around for a few seconds and I'm sure looked pretty crazy.7
